EB Has Broken The Street Date for Dead Island

A few Kotaku readers have tipped us off to EB Games selling Dead Island a day early. The game's official release date is September 9, but a number of posts have gone up on EB's Facebook page from people who have seen the game on sale today.

Have you seen Dead Island on sale at a retailer near you? Did you pick up a copy today? Let us know! Thanks for the tip, Saxon and Logic!

When I went to game to pick up my copy of Resistance 3, the girl there said that Harvey Norman were the first to break street date, and the they were now selling it.

The steam version unlocked for me yeserday morning (without any vpn shennanigans), I assumed it was a side effect of the "No not THAT version, the finished one!!!" kerfuffle so I've already logged 10 hours in. I've definitely not got an american account, evidenced by the fact the guide that apparently comes with the game is "not available in my region"

Pretty good fun overall, kind of like borderlands with zombies (other than the zombies that were in borderlands), its relatively light on story but not to the point where it feels too empty and there's lots of scope for exploration which is something I really love

Went to order it from Ozgameshop on Tuesday only to find it as "currently unavailable". After posting a WTF to them on twitter I was told to check their Facebook page in the FAQ section. Seems they sold all stock allocations out... So now I'm stuck waiting for new stock to arrive (on a side note, I ordered Deus Ex)

    Got my CE edition today
Going home to play it now I hope it's as awesome as I want it to be

Looks like the release date *puts on sun glasses* has been left for dead

    YYYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
    (music starts)

Lets see the shit I cop from it, but I work at a prominent EB Games store. (yeah, what of it?)

On Wednesday night my manager went to the local JB Hi-Fi to see when they were selling Space Marines and Resistance for so we could price-match for their release. He came back saying that they also said they were planning on selling Dead Island the next day; when he questioned them they said that it was fine because there was another store already selling it (Game, I think; but don't hold me to that), so they were selling it on Thursday rather than Friday. So as far as I know, street date was already broken by C.O.B on wednesday; we received no notification from our Head Office, though. SoIdon'tknow.

Went to buy it at my centre, hoping someone would have it out early, and sure enough, EB at 10:00 was the only store that had stock out to sell.

Went to another store 20 minutes later to buy it cheaper after they'd had a chance to confirm EB's break and started selling.

Wow alot of ppl sure like shit games!

That's what I'm saying Meowgravy. This game is trash

I purchased my copy at futureshop on the 6th...360 achievements had a street date for the 6th, they were just putting them on the shelves when i got there first thing. This would explain why none of my american xbox live friends have it yet.

I like Kotaku's huff and puff over GT selling OoT 'early' but when EB breaks a street date for the billionth time its all 'did you pick up your copy!?!?'

    WTF..

BIG W Loganholme (QLD) was selling it as of Monday 5th..

This isn't the first time EB has sold a game early. The past few games I've gotten from them, I've ended up getting early.

I do remember a view yers ago that started selling a Tony Hawk game early at my store, but then had to stop selling it a few hours later
