Our First Look At Call Of Duty Running On A PlayStation Vita

We’ve been curious about how Call of Duty will run on Sony’s handheld Vita console ever since we first heard about the game, and today at Sony’s Gamescom press conference, we got a look at Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified in action.

You can see the game doing its thing above. It looks… well, to be honest, it looks about like a standard FPS and seems to lack the shine and smoothness of a Call of Duty game. But of course, it’s hard to tell all that much via a streaming video (it’s still hard to tell that much via a trailer for a handheld game), and it will doubtless look quite different when running on a Vita in your hands.

Kotaku will have hands-on coverage of Black Ops Declassified from Gamescom this week. Until then, check out the trailer above.

  • This lookspromising. Im really glad the Vita is showing some good quality games for a handheld system. Its looking like PS3 Launch Graphics more and more each new title. Online on the go with 4×4 is awesome

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s because they’re targeting the traditional 60fps game play of the COD series. Call of Duty on Xbox certain doesn’t hold up visually against it’s 30fps counterparts on the platform.

    • I downloaded NOVA3 last night on the ipad 3?hd?wtf? and wow… the graphics on that are quite stunning for a tablet game. I want to see what someone can do for the Vita that blows me away but this just isn’t it.

  • Chazef, as stated above any vita trailer looks terrible and does not give a true indication of the quality of the actual game running on the vita.

I never saw what the fuss was about in regard to uncharted on the vita as I had only seen trailers for it online and decided that it looked terrible and that the vita was not worth my while, I then got hands on with uncharted on a vita and then understood how stunning it looks on the vita screen and decided to purchase the vita!

Would hardly say the vita is in trouble because the trailer looks like a pixelated mess for the reasons above.

Once joe blow is playing cod on the vita then others will want to join in the fun too

    • Yeah good point. Wipeout is stunning and that runs smoothly at around 30fps, which begs the question, why don’t they ditch the whole 60fps rule for CoD, particularly on the vita, to add more content and make it better visually?

    • Agreed. Don’t know what all the fuss is about in regards to the visuals.
If anything, simpler visuals are often better suited to handheld games. Too much detail on a small screen can make it difficult to identify objects.

  • I think it looks good, in terms of graphics, but I’m not convinced I’ll want to play this sort of game on the go.
But that’s a personal choice – in terms of the game itself, it looks like it’ll play well enough and I’m sure they’ll sell boatloads of copies.

    • Nihilistic, they did Resistance Burning Skies… which wasn’t all that great.

Seeing as they have released a game this May and now COD in Nov, I really don’t see this game being anything that great and expect it to be rushed.

If Activision continue with a yearly release, the following years game is likely to be a huge improvement.
