Monster Hunter 4 Is Looking Good As The 3DS Continues Its Amazing Year

The absurd string of major games on the once-sleepy 3DS continues next month, at least in Japan, where they’re getting the mammoth Monster Hunter 4 on September 14.

A new trailer for the game came out today. Watch it above.

Here in America, Monster Hunter‘s a niche thing. Those who are into it love it, but it’s no blockbuster franchise. In Japan, it’s a co-op multiplayer juggernaut that makes systems or — in the case of the 3DS — makes red-hot systems somehow even hotter.

If you’re wondering about MH4 for North America, the official word is that no announcement has been made about that.

So there’s this game in Japan in September. And then there’s a Pokémon game the month after — worldwide! My goodness. When’s the last time a system had a year of exclusives like the one the 3DS is having?

  • True on the 3DS having a bumper-year. I’d say a few consoles have had years as good but not with so many exclusives.

I remember the 360 had Forza 2, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, the Orange Box and Halo 3 in the space of a few months in 2007 and that was pretty nuts, but most of those were multiplatform. Other than that….. yeah, pretty glad I picked up a 3DS for $119 from Harvey Norman in January!!!

    • In truth, only Bioshock and Orange Box were multiplatform at release, and only AC and Mass Effect were ported much later, so it was some pretty good console exclusives!

    • i agree! the whole cross platform thing they have going with mh3u is fantastic so just run with it and release mh4 on wiiu. give them the chance to show off what monster hunter in HD is really like not the “HD” we got with mh3u
