Super Mario Bros. 3, More Classics Hit Wii U Virtual Console In April

Advance Wars fans, break out the champagne. The much-loved strategy game from Nintendo, along with fan-favourite Metroid, Yoshi and WarioWare titles, will be hitting the Wii U next month.

There’s a first-party gem in every week of April 2014’s Virtual Console release schedule. Just take a look:

April 3:

  • Advance Wars (Wii U, $US7.99)
  • Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Wii U, $US7.99)
  • Metroid Fusion (Wii U, $US7.99)

April 10:

  • Kirby & The Amazing Mirror (Wii U, $US6.99)
  • WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!

April 17

  • Super Mario Bros. 3 (Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, $US4.99)
  • F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (Wii U, $US6.99)
  • Golden Sun (Wii U, $US7.99)

April 24

  • Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 (Wii U, $US7.99)

  • Isn’t Super Mario Bros 3 already out on Virtual Console? I swear I’ve seen it on there.

  • I can’t wait for Golden Sun to come out. But I reeeeeally hope they release Megaman Battle Network on the VC…!

  • Why the heck would they put the inferior Game Boy version on Yoshi’s Island on WiiU instead of the original? I just don’t understand what they’re doing here.

    • The GBA version of Yoshi’s Island has better sound quality, better sound effects, and about 8 more levels, some of which are incredibly challenging. Other than that, they’re completely the same. So unless you really like the old sound effects, the GBA one is far superior.

      • Just today I was playing the GBA version on my 3DS, and the graphics are FAR inferior to the original. They’ve got this weird blur to the animations, the viewing area is much smaller and the colours are nowhere near as vibrant. It’s a poor man’s Yoshi’s Island, no doubt about that.

  • Does Super Mario 3 look like the original? Or some gaudy HD remake ruining the classic graphics?

  • I just got SMB3 the other week! Unboxed with a hardly used NES in the box. Wondering if I should crack it open to play it… or get the Virtual Console version.

    • If you want my opinion, I’d go for the Virtual Console version, just because the NES can become unusuable quickly because of how it’s designed.
Of course, there are ways around that, but only if you don’t mind spending a couple of bucks on connector pins every so often and you also don’t mind disassembling your NES to replace said connector pins.
If I were you, I’d just go for the Virtual Console version, it’d be cheaper and less tedious than having to replace the pins every month or so.

  • Wtf dont they just add nintendo 64 games???
i want majoras mask on off tv play.
all these other VC games i have on my 3ds and i dont get a discount or anything.

  • Please add cross buy and real accounts on nintendo systems. I would buy so much more from the E shop.

  • ooh Fusion on the eShop?

*opens 3DS eShop & searches for all things Metroid*

Apparently there’s only Metroid & Metroid II available on the 3DS… WTF!!! How come no Fusion/Super Metroid??

      • Wait so they’ve already made it compatible with the 3ds for 3ds ambassadors but they refuse to add it to the eShop so that people can pay for it?! Why the hell would they refuse a product from being able to be sold???

        • It works 100% and it isnt the onlt gba game.
I to dont understand why they dont eshop it.
they say it was becauae we supported the 3ds when it was released and this was a reward but i still think it isnt fair for others.
