Buying into Steam Early Access with certain games and renting an apartment can both be like lottery, and we can end up with a really painful experience if we're not paying attention.
Dorkly's new comic compares the two and sums up all the struggle.

Never had an apartment like the one depicted above. Though I do get what he's saying it is still a poor analogy.
Then you're a lucky guy!
At least you have an option not to buy Early Access. If only there were similarly-easy alternatives to renting...
I always get friends telling me to stop paying for early-access games. At the end of the day, if the game is playable and enjoyable for what I've paid for, then I don't mind it! For those games that consistently and frequently provide updates and content (NEO Scavenger is a great example) it's an added bonus!
Pretty much.....
I buy early access games based on what is currently in them, not what the offer in the future. In that regard, it's just like buying a full release game, there's no guarantee of 100% quality there either.
