If you wanted to buy the new waves of amiibos at GameStop in real-life or online, that doesn’t seem to be possible right now. Its website is down and in-store registers aren’t working.
Pre-orders for the new amiibos began today at GameStop, Target, and other retailers. Reservations started at 3pm EST for Ness, Robin, Charizard, Pac-Man, Lucina, Wario, Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl and the Splatoon pack.
Ness is available exclusively at GameStop, and they’re also selling bundles of the new figures.
UPDATE (3.50pm): I’m told GameStop will be rebooting its website soon to try and get a handle on the influx of traffic, and some stores have started ringing people up. Stay tuned!
For a while, GameStop’s site wasn’t working it all. Right now, it’s displaying this:
People are losing it, obviously.

People aren’t fairing any better in the stores either.
I’m in a GameStop store next to Robot and all the GameStop register systems are down. Amazing.

The in store preorder system has crashed. Gamestop employee: “Hashtag thanks Nintendo.”

I’ve contacted GameStop to get a status update on their technical difficulties, but I haven’t heard back yet.

Because it’s stupid.
Fuck Nintendo (and I don’t like amiibo anyway… well, I’d probably buy a Tharja amiibo)
At least EB in Australia are pretty good.
