Mornin’ all.
First day of my new job \o/
What’s the job?
Just a bottom feeder at a local BWS, but I have 27 hours my first week as casual, so that’s pretty nice 😛
GRATS!
Cheers buddy!
I didn’t really play any new games over the weekend. Instead I went and visited my parents and cleared some backlogged games.
Finished up Legend of Korra a year later from when I first played it. Extreme mode was ridiculously easy. I equipped the suggested items and just blew right through the mode. It just confirms my original opinion that the game was a disappointing Platinum game. What was annoying were two glitched achievements that needed extra work to unlock.
Played through Dead Rising 2: Case West. Bought it on sale 5 years ago but only just now decided to play it. It’s really meh, seems more like it was DLC to appease the fans complaining about no camera or Frank West.
Played through Comix Zone. Same deal, bought years ago and never played. Man that game is ridiculously hard. Mainly because it’s one life and game over. Doesn’t help that attacking objects reduces your health. So if you have to punch a door open and you have no health you’re screwed. Thankfully the game allows you to save it any time. Managed to get through within an hour.
Hey everyone, my computer starts freezing and I need to isolate the issue causing it. Any suggestions?
Get out of Scree’s computer @freezespreston.
Windows PC?
First thing would be to check the event viewer. Expand “Windows Logs” then “System” and on the right, select “Filter Current Log” and only select Critical and Error for the last 7 days or so.
See if there’s any applications hanging, or disk errors etc.
It’s started happening recently, like 2 to 3 weeks. It only happens on startup. If it doesn’t freeze on start up or on the desktop, it’s fine. It’s really weird. =/
Check the obvious, like stuck fans, or cables that might be obstructing fans, otherwise you can start windows in verbose logging mode, and see what it is doing when it hangs.
The fan is working because I can hear it, but it sounds a bit sick. I should clean out the pc anyway, but I don’t have any canned air. Is there anything else I can use to safely clean the dust out?
I use the vacuum cleaner, carefully. You can always use a dry paintbrush to loosen up the dust, or just blow on them vigorously.
I don’t trust my vacuum cleaner. I’ll use a paintbrush.
Yeah brush + Vacuum is an good alternative. If you’ve got an industrial strength one just keep it at a decent distance from the machine so it’s only able to absorb the dust you’ve pushed around with the brush!
@pupp3tmast3r I have cleaned it and it was no where near as dusty as I expected.
I find the vacuum cleaner really ineffective, but once rigged up with a McDonalds straw it does a good job of getting in the hard to reach places.
I used the brush and vacuum cleaner combo and it did an alright job. Oh and blowing too. Seeing as I used to play trumpet, I did a pretty good job.
How long do you leave it before declaring it frozen, 10 minutes or so just to make absolutely sure?
Just to eliminate a software problem, would you have any system restore points from a few weeks ago?
I didn’t install anything new. It started happening abruptly. It seems to occur when I leave it unattended on start up. So if I’m making it do stuff, it works, but if I go off to get breakfast, by the time I come back, the mouse it not moving. I know it’s frozen because the off button turns off immediately. If it’s not frozen, you have to hold it in for at least 4 seconds.
Morning all, finally took delivery of the b-i-g 3D printer, so no more cutting jobs into pieces.
Anyone got any suggestions for something large to test-print while I am calibrating it all?
A Pip-Boy?
Good idea, now the real question, the one from Fallout 3, or Fallout 4?
Por que no los dos?
\o/
\ooo/
True, the build bed is big enough to print two at once.
Something better quality than that Fallout 4 one please 😛
This. I hate to complain but I was a little disappointed with the quality of the Pip-boy from the collectors edition. I was hoping for something a little denser that doesn’t feel like it might spring open at any moment because of a dodgy latch. I feel like it might fall apart whenever I handle it so it’s nothing more than a display piece, which I guess is what it’s intended for anyway?
The buttons on mine are so flimsy, it’s not funny. One has already decided to stop working. I packed it up back in the case and put it away, before anything else broke.
I wish it was better quality, he;; I would’ve paid double for something that was better feeling tbh.
Big purple dildo.
Don’t have any purple filament.
Big DOUBLE-ENDED purple dildo?
No purple? MAKE IT BLACK!
The biggest blackest dick?
Someone get this girl a cookie! She knows her shit!
I’m sorry?
Never be sorry.
never.
You’re awesome.
Did someone call black dynamite
A 3D printer.
Already printed most of the second printer using the first printer. This is the third printer 🙂
See, when two 3D printers like each other very much…
BWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Do you want to get the world taken over by an army of self-replicating 3D printers? Because that’s how you get the world taken over by an army of self-replicating 3D printers.
And ants..lots of ants
Hm…There are lots of things you can print. How about armour? =P
I like this idea. This idea is a great idea
Cat armour?
http://3dprint.com/103249/3d-printed-cat-armor/
Do you have a cat?
Yeah, but I’d need extensive armour if I was going to try and strap that onto him.
Hm, how about Horse armour? I hear you can sell that for a pretty penny =P
A car.
OHHH I HAVE A 3d printer too
The meshing gears is always a good test of resolution. but the t-rex skull looks awesome too.
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:392773
Then you can send one my way 😛
Sure, I don’t know what that is, but if you pay for the filament, I’ll print you one 🙂
Wait, serious? I’m definitely happy to do that. I’ve had that link bookmarked for ages in the unlikely event I buy a printer.
Sure.
my email address is originaltrilogy and do it via gmail and I’ll get back to you.
Looks like it will take a bloody long time to print, but I can cue the parts up in the downtime between jobs.
Pretty sure Games Workshop has a dungeon full of people like you.
Just out of curiosity how much would the filament for a project like that cost? Even a little 3D printer popping out stuff like that for use in terrain building would be awesome.
Totally depends on how much infill you have to use, and if a lot of support material is required.
If you pick a couple of models that would be roughly the kind of thing you mean, and give me a link, I can run them through the slicer and tell you almost exactly how much filmanet they would require, so you could get some idea.
I would imagine the same as that unit Freeze mentioned. I’ve always liked the idea of giant ruins and fallen tanks as scenery, but at Games Workshop prices taking a Eldar Wave Serpent and chopping it to bits for a crash site objective marker is nuts. I’m not actually after anything though, I’ve got enough clutter as it is. Just curious.
That sucker is HUGE, (60cm tall) is that the correct scale?
At the highest quality, with very little infill, the head alone would be around 70 grams, and take about 6 hours to print. The upper body (chest and shoulders) would be around 350grams, so the entire thing would probably use more than 2kg of filament, and take well over hundred hours to print, so you need to factor in the cost of power etc. as well. It would be an expensive piece, even to print it yourself, with decent quality filament, and factoring in at least one or two parts glitching and requiring reprinting, I reckon it would cost you , best case, somewhere near $200 or so to print it yourself. That is a huge model though.
Wow, 60cm. I guess that’s about right considering what it is but the picture made me think it’d be half the size. Still, considering Forge World sell Phantom Titans for like 370 pounds $200 plus time isn’t the worst idea.
What sort is it? I’ve been contemplating getting one recently but I could only ever hope to afford one that’s around a grand and I’m not sure if they’d be any good
The one I just took delivery of is over three grand.
3D printing requires a lot of experimentation, and a reasonable amount of knowledge, it still isn’t at the ‘load model and press print’ stage yet.
You have to tinker a lot, get to know different filaments and the settings that work best for your printer, choose a slicer and gt to know it etc. etc.
You can get a good one for under a grand, but it depends what build size you want.
Short story, get one with a steel frame, heated bed and if possible, automated leveling and height detection if you are just starting out, I’d also budget for a good slicer, the free ones are okay, but something like simplify3D is world’s better. You can email me if you like and I can put together some recommendations and sample prints etc. for a sub $1000 printer with a 20cmx28cm build bed.
Hmm, the one I was looking at was called the DaVinci, it seems to have most of the features you suggested which is a pleasant surprise. Is ‘slicer’ the term for the modelling software?
What is wrong with me? Been working all weekend, so didn’t really have any time for Fallout 4, finally got a day off work, and so far it’s just been sitting on the start screen for the last hour while I’ve been browsing the internet.
Wondering if I should even bother continuing at all, because I’m probably only gonna be able to squeeze in another 10 hours of playtime before Star Wars: Battlefront arrives in the mail, and then Just Cause 3 is out in 2 weeks, so I probably won’t have any time for it until at least christmas, and after that long I’m just gonna restart anyway.
Bugger it, I’ll just play some more Lego Dimensions and maybe some DriveClub Bikes, or Minecraft: Story Mode while I wait for Battlefront.
#1stworldproblems
Firstly, I got this ad:
https://youtu.be/8r7YMplBdgE
Secundus: what song is that a parody of?
Ha! Saw the lipstick while browsing Star Wars stuff last night after work, didn’t know there was a whole range though.
It’s not a parody, Weird Al actually does a lot of original songs too. That particular one is in the style of The Pixies
One of my recent favourites is the one he did in response to fans calling for him to perform during half-time at the superbowl.
Don’t worry I’m the same, installed it all got it all ready then Loaded Up Rocket League.
My worry is tryna get as much done before R6: Siege comes out
Fallout!
I finally made myself start progressing the main story and went to Diamond city (yes, I really hadn’t done any of it).
Gotta say that the city being in the stadium was a nice surprise. I hadn’t given the name a second thought so it gave me a bit of a chuckle. The counter-point to this is Piper. Her introduction sequence made me want to punch her in the face (which, in power armour, is probably not a good thing to do). She uses me to get back in the city, uses me to argue with a guy I don’t know, and when I mention my son is kidnapped she gets excited about the story. The stereotypical reporter thing is annoying as hell.I’m sure she’ll get more endearing (or at least easier to tolerate) as time goes on…I hope, because I’m trying to play as a decent person for this run.
I played F3 like that, was hours before I found Megaton.
She’s my fave companion. But then, she’s the perfect sidekick to the persuasive jerk I play as.If you spend some time with her, there’s more than just the cliched reporter persona. I won’t say anything but she’s not just in it for a scoop
I’m at about the same point as you (literally just walked in the gates).
Piper is the first point so far where I’ve felt the engine really not doing people right. For some reason, her eyes (and no-one else’s I’ve noticed really) just look weeeeeeeird. Her mouth was weirding me out early on but it seems to have settled down and gotten a bit more realistic.
I’m glad I’m not the only person who noticed this. If my characters expressions where synced to my own she would be looking at her like “wtf is wrong with your face?”
I’m positive it’s the real reason they want her out of the city.“We’ll put up with a lot of stuff here in Diamond City, but weird glassy eyed ladies can GTFO”I haven’t opened your spoiler because I’ve been sidequesting and farming and haven’t gone there yet.
Yeah, that’s exactly why it’s taken me so long. Also just general exploration and home stuff 😀
Piper pretty quickly became my preferred companion but yeah, her intro was irritating.I built her relationship up until I had the romance option, then ditched her for Deacon just for a change, but I miss having Piper.Yeah she annoyed the crap outta me as well but she’s actually a decent side-kick once you get to know her! She’s all pro-good people (i.e. help people for free; look out for the little guy, uncompromising truth, etc).It took me ages to go to diamond city too, as in something like 30 hours of gameplay doing town building, side quests and realising that I’m way, WAY too under levelled to be in some of the areas I was exploring. “How hard can this one little bunker be?” I think to myself, a few dozen skull level ghouls later including at least 2 legendary ones, I come out of the bunker to find myself being chased by a skull level sentry bot which I only barely manage to kill because it was distracted by the skull level radscorpion… It was about then that I decided that I should probably get around to looking for that kid I’m supposed to care about.
While we’re on the topic of companions, Curie is my favourite by a wide margin but I’m rather liking Nick Valentine, gotta love a hard boiled PI (the ones with runny yolk are just nasty).
One benefit of exploring so much is that I discovered that the bottom left of the map extends quite a long way beyond the border, something like 2-3 full grid squares. Its horribly irradiated (to the extent that I was contemplating using Rad-X even though I was in power armour) and full of deathclaws & radscorpions but certainly nice to explore (by which I mean terrifying but atmospheric)
I’m already thinking about my second playthrough, there’s mods that let you alter the damage multiplier that both you and the enemy have, I’m planning to crank them both up to 200% and play the game like Arma where every bullet is potentially lethal.
Ha, i’m at about the same point as you.. I spent ages just exploring & pilfering shit 😛
Yeah i didn’t really notice it was a stadium until I went to the mayor’s office & bought a house lol. It’s pretty cool.Edit: Also is it wrong I don’t care for the companions? I just want Dogmeat, cause he’s rad. I just like going at everything alone, it’s worked okay for me so far, i’ll probably regret this later on though haha.
STAR WARS HAAAAAIIIIIIIIPPPPPEEEEE!!!!!!!
Only one month to go.I’ve got my midnight ticket! \o/
I didn’t realise they were pre-selling tickets. Is it still possible to see it anywhere within the first 48 hours?
Oh yeah, Hoyts Belconnen (my local) are running screenings all night (the 3:30am screening is still pretty much empty). You shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a seat if you’re happy with unsociable hours!
(Mileage may vary in proper cities, though!)
We haven’t even got any times confirmed at all yet where I live.
Really? Well, you’ve got 30 days to move to a much better city 🙂
I keep seeing things on FB “NEW TRAILER!” or “NEW TV SPOT!” or “WHICH CHARACTER DOES THIS?!”
And I keep on scrolling becuase I ain’t got time to watch your spoilers from my seat on the hype train!
https://youtu.be/8r7YMplBdgE
Hype as fuck.
Getting near 30 hours in Fallout 4. I’ve kinda completed the main objective, but to continue down that path means doing things I’m not comfortable with.
So, I’ve been doing the Minutemen quests. Closest I can get to being a superhero in the Commonwealth. Albeit, a manipulative, lock picking, hacking superhero.
I think I’m also near to 30 hours. I’ve done a lot of Minuteman/settler sidequests but at this point they feel procedurally/randomly generated. I’ve rescued Abernathy Farm from Ghouls so many times it’s kind of ridiculous.
As to the story:
I’ve crossed the glowing sea to visit Virgil, found the Railroad, joined the Brotherhood, entered the Institute, given Virgil his FEV cure, arranged to break some Synths out of the institute, and warned the Railroad about the upcoming Battle of Bunker Hill – I’m stopped there because I’m not sure if I want to also get the BoS involved, given they’re at cross-purposes to the Railroad.Oooh, I’m not quite as far along as you.
I figured the
Minutemen quests were that radial quest whatever, that Bethesda was going on about for Skyrim. Where it’s kind of sort of set up by the programmers but the Nov will choose a location you haven’t been.I got sent over one side of the map only to be told my actual quest was on the opposite side. Thank fuck for fast travel!
Yeah, as soon as I got to the institute I was a bit weirded out & unsure. They’re obviously nuts but at the same time what they do could help.
I like that kind of morality grey area.
Wheeeee!kend.
Finally made the trip down to Gamesmen, which I’ve been meaning to do for ages and ages now. The museum is awesome. I don’t even know how to describe the feeling just wandering through there, looking at all those familiar boxes. It was like I was a kid again, wandering through Video Ezy trying to pick something to hire. Ended up grabbing myself some red n3DS plates since red+black seems to be a thing for me now and also they were discounted, then lay down a preorder on the Xenoblade X special edition, because hype. Also picked up a second Thrustmaster T.16000M, because curiosity and whim.
Saturday, caught up with my friend with the piano. Polish Girl? Idk. The thing was hilariously out of tune, some of the keys were three semitones flat according to the tuner readout. Thankfully most of the keys were in tune relative to each other, so there wasn’t a whole lot of work in getting it playable. Bit of a pain in the arse though, it’s got all the spokes for the dampers in front of everything (“birdcage” I think they call the style) so it’s really difficult to actually get to the strings to mute them. We played around for a bit, but with a severe lack of common knowledge of songs it was difficult to actually get anywhere. How does jam work 😛 Gonna try again next weekend I think, we’re both keen to get something going. Surely it can’t be that hard, people do it all the time, right?
She ended up getting messaged by some friends while I was there, and asked if I wanted to go bowling. So went off to the bakehouse quarter to meet up with them for dinner, Korean barbecue. Bowling went alright. Started out crap on both games, getting gutterballs on the first ball of each frame. Bleh. Eventually turned things around and managed to climb to 2nd and 3rd respectively, and at least I broke 100 so I’m happy.
Spotted something horrible when turning around to leave and seeing the arcade section. Apparently this is the world we live in now. Two bucks a go. Though it pays out tickets pretty well (a couple of her friends had a go), so it’s not too bad if you’re alright at the game I guess. We all got a bunch of temporary tattoos with them 😛
Went to try and play Elite on Sunday, with the 1.5 beta being released. Only to find that I can’t actually play the main game, keep getting an error saying I can’t connect to the transaction server 🙁 Could get into CQC though, so went to check out the Imperial Fighter. Except it took *forever* to get into a match, so testing wasn’t pretty slow going. It’s pretty cool, seems fairly similar to the Condor I guess. Spinning around for a u-turn it seems to have quite a lot of reverse thrust. Crazy delicate though, I felt like I was exploding far easier though I don’t know if there’s been any tweaks to things in the past month since I last played.
After that, went to training mode to test out some twin-stick action. It’s… hard 😛 But feels really fun. I need to tweak my binds a whole lot more, and find something a bit better than what I’ve currently got. Also need to get used to them. Currently have power management on the hat switch, which feels weird and unwieldy to use compared to the keypad setup I had before. I’m not sure what I’ll do if I can’t get as good with this as I am with single stick though. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens, get some more practise in.
Sooooo… weekend. Super-extremely-personal stuff following, so spoilered accordingly.
I haven’t checked in on TAY since Wednesday and it’s been…. well it’s been a pretty rough few days to be honest. My depression has kicked up a notch and is manifesting in fun (not fun) and interesting (not interesting) ways some of which are new and some of which are escalations of old themes. What was most fun (not fun) was some of my friends calling an intervention and calling an ambulance on me because I’d gotten that bad. Did I forget to mention that I’ve been suicidally depressed? My bad. I’ve been hiding that from everybody everywhere. I happened to mention it to a friend who was asking me about my depression (i.e. how bad were things?) and she put two and two together and realised that shit was pretty serious when I didn’t show up for work on Thursday. Never mind that she was right, I wasn’t having any of it. Lied my way (I can be very high functioning when I want to be) out of an involuntary trip to the hospital and promptly fell asleep. Woke up and had my darkest night yet.
So Friday I started coming out of things and realising that I’d gotten to a point of no return. Spoke with my friends and they rallied to the cause, rolling up to the house, whisking me away to the hospital where I had a psych evaluation and was told I wasn’t a danger to myself (hooray) but that I needed a referral to a clinical psychologist for treatment and monitoring.
Spent Saturday night at a friend’s place and hung out with her all Sunday just to get me out of the house and do something different. Felt good, and I’m starting to go on an upward swing at the moment. I’ve been monitoring my moods for the past few weeks and I’m starting to suspect there may be some patterns to it. Extreme highs every couple weeks followed by extreme lows every couple weeks.
Will see what the doctor has to say about it when I see them later today. Anyway, I just wanted to let my TAY family know what’s going on since the cat is out of the bag for real now. No point in hiding things and I’d rather be honest with the people who mean so much to me, even if not physically present.
And now something with a bit less weight. Page 6 came early!
What’s the difference between a hippo and a zippo? One is really heavy, the other is a little lighter.
Good to hear you’re taking positive steps to manage your mental health. Keep it up and know that you have people here who are more than willing you help you out/talk to you if you need it.
Yep, it feels good to have things out there and know my friends (TAY especially included) are there for me.
Bloody Hell bob. Glad your friends came through for you, and at least you’re on the path now.I know, right? Also that’s why I missed Lasers and Feelings. Too much of one and not enough of the other. Or something like that.
I didn’t think it was possible for one to have too many lasers.
@rocketman – Can one have too many lasers?
you spend 8 years with lasers, calibrating them and yeah
NO YOU CANT HAVE TOO MANY, I MISS THEM SOO MUCH
ILY laserguy.
Did you ever have someone try to talk to you and be like “Can it wait? I’m in the middle of some calibrations.”?
Take care of yourself dude. It’s good to know that your friends are there for you.
It’s good to know for me too. I was a little annoyed (but NOT angry) at one point but that was just my irrational subconscious talking.
im glad you have good friends in your life that you can talk about this with, hugs man. just hugs.
I used to find it really easy to lie to people about how i was feeling and it made me feel even worse. If you are having a bad day please dont isolate yourself. Let someone know, let a friend or a family member or even me if you want a non judgemental shoulder to lean on. Just dont try and fight it alone because it will make you feel even more horrible that you are lying to the people you care about.
Hugs man
Hugs
I know what you mean. Lying about things is really, like scarily so, easy and it was made all the worse because I’d want to say something and my brain would be screaming JUST TELL SOMEBODY WHAT YOU’RE GOING THROUGH! and then I’d go to say it and just say Nah, I’m fine. I’d hate myself in those moments which then made me feel worse and it was a vicious cycle. Part of why I’m trying to be honest for once; so I don’t have to feel that shameful lying any more.Gah. Stupid site.
I was sending you a *hug*
I was hoping more people would get on board the blank reply chain. 😛
Shit man, had no idea, you always seem like such a happy person. I’ve suffered from depression, so I know what it’s like, admittedly I’ve never gotten to the point of being suicidal. You’ve done the right thing though, I found just talking about it helps massively, at first I didn’t even feel comfortable talking to my wife about it, so I just typed out how I was feeling, printed it out and gave it to her, it didn’t instantly fix things, but it helped. We’re here for ya man, hit me up on Steam anytime if you want to talk. *brohug*Also, don’t know if you’ve seen this, but it might put a smile on your dial.
That’s a big part of it, outwardly it’s easy to seem like a happy dude – hell a lot of my humour and pop culture references etc are so hard wired in to me I don’t even control them any more. They just happen whether I want them to or not. That’s a great suggestion about writing things out though. I find it simple to write on a keyboard and much easier than actually talking, that could be a way to go. It’s weird (or not) though… once I got referred to the specialist they called me on Saturday and I spoke to them for 30 minutes so they could get my background details and in that 30 minutes I was able to say more and talk more freely than I had in … maybe ever? I said things that I’ve only thought in my darkest nights, and they just came out all at once. Maybe it was the relief at having it all out there, finally, with nothing to hide behind, but strangers can sometimes be the easiest people to talk to because we don’t already know and love them. Food for thought.
So much this. Even when I’m feeling like total crap or the situation doesn’t call for it at all, I’ll still 100% come out with levity and jokes in place of seriousness. No control.Typing is so much easier than talking. I can’t imagine how insane I’d go if I couldn’t unload on my friends over MSN/Skype over the years. Interesting about the stranger talk thing though.
Glad you’re on the path, man. I’ll be sending good thoughts.
Also offering an ear whenever you need one (though I don’t think they really count unless it’s a legit kill).
I went to a psychiatrist once to treat what I think is some medium-to-long-term depression. Didn’t go as well as yours did (I’m notoriously bad at articulating feelings), and in the end got the exact advice about free-flowing rivers that I wrote into Undad (so at least it was good for something). I felt more isolated than ever afterwards, and never went back.Gotta admit, there’s a teeny tiny part of me saying “This positivity is just because you’re on an upward swing and will come crashing down around you on the next cycle. I said to the clinician today that my key goal is to make sure that I keep this positive forward momentum going and not lose traction. This time will be the last. (Ish.)Burdens are always lighter when shared. We all have them.
Tell it, sister! Testify!
Uhn. Double up. Uhn Uhn.With evilmonkey on this one I had no idea either! It’s good you’re taking the first steps in fighting it which is recognizing it’s something that needs to be fought. I’ve had multiple bouts with depression over the years and I still find personal productivity the best cure for myself (i.e. gym; painting) that said it varies greatly from person to person so I hope you get better and know that asking for help from your friends is the best thing you could’ve done!Yeah, right now I’m at work which seems a little strange to some but at the same time for me it’s a known quantity and something I can do on autopilot so it’s helping keep me engaged and focussed on what my next steps need to be. Just trying to keep myself occupied in the short term so that I can focus on the long term solutions properly.
The absolute worst thing I found for depression was to keep idle. When my waves hit me leaving myself alone with my thoughts always turns sour. So yeah work, gym, hobbies, socializing, all that helps immensely in pushing back depression. The biggest hurdle is recognising you are depressed; which you’ve already crossed bob so you’re on the right track to fighting this thing.
So nasty, and so familiar.
Mine comes out in weird ways too. I get it, and reading through plenty of other TAYbies do too. I’m glad you’ve recognised and admitted it’s happening, that’s always the hardest part – “it’s not as bad as last time, I’ll be fine”. Insidious shit, depression.I don’t know that insidious begins to describe it. 🙂
You’re right that it’s a little inadequate, but it’s a great word and needs more usage… 😉
In waves.
Hope you’re on the up man.
This day has been really positive. Thank you. 🙂
Big Hugs Mr, I’m glad you are taking steps to manage yourself. *sends so many hugs*It’s a hugsplosion! What am I going to do with all these hugs? I better get a wacky arm inflatable tube guy to help me sell them.
Dude.
All I can offer from this side of the country are digital hugs and an offer to listen if you need someone to talk to.
Good to see that you’re taking positive steps, and I hope that they result in some good changes.
You mean a lot to many people. Please try not to be afraid to ask for help, because we’ll give it willingly.
Thanks buddy. Now that I’ve put things out there asking for help doesn’t seem so difficult. It’s just been taking that first step. It’s exhausting trying to hide things, so much more liberating to be honest with the people who mean most to me.
We’ll have to make sure to catch up next time I’m in BrisVegas (hopefully some time early next year).
Hugs again.
UPDATE
So I’m back from the “acute care” team at the hospital. Spoke with a clinician for over an hour, got pages of notes taken down for a report. The doctor wasn’t available so I’m going back on Thursday to discuss diagnosis and medications and long term treatment. It felt good to talk with that level of honesty. I was telling them about revealing everything on here and how it was a way of me removing any chance of hiding and getting everything out in the open, and that’s been the best thing. I was able to start digging in to triggers and working out the recurring patterns that have been present for a long time so that we can hone in on a correct diagnosis. There’s some early signs but until a doctor confirms everything it’s still awaiting proper diagnosis but at the very least I’m feeling better about things and about myself.
Thanks everybody for your outpouring of support. Your love makes me feel very cared for and I’m positive I can get through all this – especially with a little help from my friends.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOO. BOOOOOO. TAKE IT BACK TO PAGE 6, YOU HACK!
I was saying Boo-urns. :'(Glad to hear you’re already making progress buddy, that’s fantastic.
Hugs oh so many hugs. Glad your taking steps to figuring things out. We all here for you.
P.S Ha ha! I geddit
I feel the need to apologise for myself for being so damn handsome, and on behalf of my city for being so awesome. Having a fleeting magical weekend and losing that can cause anybody to question their place in the world. Even though you have left us for now, remember a part of us will always be in your heart.
Hahaha, I actually said to one of the shopgirls when I was on my spending spree on the Monday “I have a Melbourne heart but I’m living in Brisbane” – One day. One day.
You are always welcome to come and visit
I went for a swim from Manly to Shelly Beach and back on Sunday with The Bold & The Beautiful. The water felt cold at first (19C) but felt good after a while. Great way to start the day.
I ended up finishing A Link Between Worlds and don’t really care for it. It’s a well-designed game but the story aspects I find are very bare-bones and the game felt like it dragged towards the end.
I started Little Big Planet Vita, which is pretty cool despite some awkward rear touchpad antics.
Started watching some anime with my kids. We are about 6 episodes into Free, which is delightful. I watched one episode of Food Wars with my daughter before silently relegating it to alone time. Great fun but it contains some stuff that is completely inappropriate for a 7 year-old.
Played some Armello with my daughter as well. Great fun.
Hi boys and girls! I’m thinking of starting a new blog for the occasional wording.
At the moment, it’s just trjnrabbit.wordpress.com but that’s not the most amazing name in the history of the world. Any suggestions? I’ve been struggling because everything rabbit and/or board game related sounds like a porn site. I really don’t think I’ll get the intended audience with bunsandboards.wordpress.com.
What about bunsandboardsbutnothingpornographicsorry.wordpress.com? Rolls off the tongue. (Nothing suss.)
At first glance I read that as “buns and birds and nothing but pornography”.
10/10 would visit.

Everything sounds wrong.
I’d go with Rabbit_of_Caerbannog and be done with it.

Trojan Buns sounds like a gay condom ad, so don’t use that.
HMMMMMMMMMMMM…. tricky.

Hey, you all liked PAX, so what about PAX for Discworld?
Tickets just went on sale for Nullus Anxietas VI, the Australian Discworld convention. This next one is running in Adelaide in 2017, and if you’re in the first 50 ticket purchasers there’s a sweet goodie.
Also, I’m helping organise some parts of it

Sounds fantastic, I’m in for su…. Oh. It requires going actually into Adelaide? Yeah, I’ve got, uh, a hair washing appointment. Damn. I’ll have to miss out.
Hey, I visited YOU in Brisbane.
Adelaide is the only Australian capital I’ve never visited. May need to rectify that in the future as long as someone can tell me where all the good food is.
Gouger Street, O’Connell Street, Rundle Street. Some good stuff up Prospect and Henley Beach roads. Lots of little hipstery cafes springing up, and a bunch of hidden gems.
Also, head to the hills or the Barossa and it’s all about food and wine.
Also, Norwood. And Unley road.
We do food good.
Keen
Also give me a reason I should bring the family to Adelaide early next year?
Tiglet would love pandas and we have pandas?
Beaches are safe and lovely?
You want to go to the Hungry Hippo with me?
Looking at doing a family holiday early next year. Will need to be driving so Adelaide is probably about the furthest we could get to. Going from Ballarat it is probably just a day trip over.
We are considering places we could go at the moment
@cookingmama is right, come here in march and it’s party town. Fringe Festival, Arts festival… V8s if you’re into that, city buzzes for like 6 weeks
Cricket, cycling or fringe festival. All good reasons.
I do love me some cycling.
Tiglet would probably enjoy the classic, even if it is getting a little late for her. I might be able to convince Mrs Tigs of that. Convincing her to want to watch the next 6 stages might be a bit harder.
Last time I was in Adelaide was for the Australia Day weekend (quite a few years back). A group of us went for Test Cricket, the Tour Down Under was about to start (or had just started), I got to see the parade in the city and we had a wine tour and a day out at Handorf.
Speaking of Star Wars, found a limited edition copy of A New Hope (the 2006 release with the original theatrical version included) on EBay yesterday for 20 bucks with free shipping. Snapped that puppy up quicksmart. Can’t wait for it to come in the mail, haven’t seen the original theatrical version since George added in the extra stuff to make the special edition almost 20 years ago.
I have that 2006 DVD original trilogy. 😀 It’s a bit grainy but at least Han shoots first.
I’ve got the 2004 release (first time on DVD) and the 1997 VHS Special Edition version. Didn’t bother buying it again in 2006 at the time I didn’t realize it came with the original theatrical versions and didn’t see the point of buying it again.
Seriously hoping Disney are going to re-release the untampered trilogy on Blu-Ray before The Force Awakens comes out, but Fox may put the kybosh on that idea because they still own the distribution rights for episode V and VI till 2020 and the rights to IV until such time as Disney drives a million dump trucks full of money to Rupert Murdoch’s house.
Still don’t own the prequel trilogy (haven’t even seen them since I went to see each of them at the cinema). Probably should finally get around to buying it, it’s cheap enough now.
There is a new rerelease out now, with Vader on the cover of the complete six film edition. I wonder if that’s without special effects?
Nah. It would have made the news. I’ve been keeping half an eye out. I’m pretty sure the only version that can be bought new is the one with Hayden Christiansen at the end of ROTJ.
Ugh, that look on his face in that scene. THAT LOOK.
I bought a trilogy of those limited edition copies for $29.95 at my local second hand place. Absolute bargain. I’ve also got a copy of the Despecialised Edition of the trilogy on Blu-Ray.
It’s the only version of the films my kids have seen.
Interesting. I’ve always been under the impression that the theatrical versions hadn’t been released since 2006 because George flatout refused to do it and sees them as half finished films. Also haven’t heard anything about Disney releasing them since they acquired Lucasfilm. Could you put up a link or something to the Blu-Ray version you’ve got, I’d be very interested in having a look.
Despecialised edition is a fan-made thing.
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/star-wars/35466/star-wars-fan-creates-despecialized-original-trilogy
Oh cool, thanks.
It DVD release is horrible, it is a straight transfer of the tapes they used to make the old laserdisc versions, converted from NTSC to PAL.
I’m restoring the original 35mm theatrical prints, scanning them at 4K. I can’t watch the Special Editions, they make me cringe.
Yeah, I know, but it’s better than nothing at all I s’pose.
So current XCOM Board game statistics, Victories:
Tutorial:2/3
Easy:0/1
Then there’s normal, hard and expert we’ve yet to even try… cripes this game is hard, but so darn fun to play!
With co-op games, you’re meant to lose about 2/3 of the time. You know that you’re playing at the right difficult when you’re still winning enough to feel good but losing enough to make those victories feel earned.
It does feel quite crushing to be defeated on a difficulty like “Tutorial” :P. Main reason we won the last tutorial game was due to the interceptors taking out over a dozen UFOs without taking a single loss.
That was really the only thing keeping us afloat since our Squad Officer kept falling short of completing one mission the whole game, when we finally beat that first mission, we were lucky that the app threw the final mission at us at that final moment.
Time to go full conspiracy theory and have pictures pinned to walls connected by string to come up with a solid strat
Freya, Blaghs and I started playing Pandemic: Legacy yesterday. It is rad.
Non-spoilery things: The game is broken up into 12 months. If you lose the first game of a month, you get a redemption game in the same month. We did not lose. We won both games and are now up to March.
Spoilery things (spoilers are for January and February):
Red is a jerk. Red is such a jerk that the disease is now incurable and we have to use a new quarantine mechanic to stop it from causing chaos and bedlam. We came tantalisingly close to eradicating yellow in our first game (because we didn’t draw any yellow cards from the infection deck until the turn before curing yellow, part of why red is such a jerk) and could’ve eradicated blue in the second but went for a quick victory instead.Got to say. Legacy games are rad. There need to be more legacy games. 7 Wonders Legacy anyone?
Is Legacy like some sort of expansion to the original?
It’s a separate product, like Risk Legacy.
The box contains one campaign, with persistence between individual games. The game changes as you draw decks from the legacy deck (which happens on events like outbreaks, curing a disease, or at the beginning/end of a game).
No, it’s an entirely different version.
Based on Risk: Legacy, basically the idea is that stuff that happens in one game affects the subsequent games- so in Risk, for example, if a site gets nuked, in the next game you can’t use it again. They’re designed so that they have an arc of plays (for Risk Legacy it was 15, I think for Pandemic it’s 12) and then it’s done.
Really neat bit of design. I’ve not been involved in one yet, but my Brother played the Risk one. apparently they fot to game 13 and then he broke up with his girlfriend and the other couple they were playing with also broke up, so it’ll never get finished
Pandemic is at least 12 if you win every game.
7 Wonders Legacy? WHERE DO I SIGN UP!?
P.S. Was telling a friend about Duel. You had pretty good impressions of it, didn’t you?
7 Wonders Legacy would be amazing. Tear cards up, add new ones, different leaders rise and fall, the tower of babel gets destroyed and rebuilt, science marches on…
I only played one game and it was against Blaghs. Not sure that’s entirely indicative of the quality of the game.
Most importantly, Duel uses the same logic and decision making you get in 7 Wonders. Specifically the decisions you make once you’ve played a few dozen games and get a good feel for what other players are trying to do. That means hate-drafting is totally a thing. Hell, it might be mandatory.
So it succeeds in what it’s trying to do.
I don’t know if that makes it a good two player game. Right now, I’d say it’s a good implementation of draft logic into a two player game. Draft logic simply may not work with two players after the initial shine wears off. Clearly the solution here is to play more games.
I suspect it’s going to be a decent game but won’t be as great as the original.
Fallout 4 question (no real spoilers except for a detail in intro movie)
Has anyone done anything with the Wedding rings like crafting components or sold them? Feels like it would be wrong to so have held onto them and doubt I will do anything else.I’m holding on to mine. 10% in case it becomes useful, 90% because (in character) I could never justify letting it go for obvious reasons. If mine’s gone because the game classed it as junk, then that’s the way the game wants to roll I guess.Due to auto / cloud save shenanigans while changing PCs, the one I’m not wearing is no longer in my inventory. Not sure if it’s because it got dumped to the stash with the ‘all junk’ option and then used in crafting, or if my resumed save was just before I went back for it. Eh.Edit: going to spoiler even though I mention no details.I’m not dumping all junk because some of it is actually used as non-components for other crafting. Things like meds, cooking, etc. (probably more)
Now that part – that I don’t get.
I can dump to a stash at the bench, but then I can’t access those items for bench related activities. So silly.
Think I just need to build a proper place in sanctuary complete with lots of storage containers for stashing things.
I’ve been using my old house with plans to build an unnecessarily big place at some point (once I figure out where I want to live). If you go to your bedroom there’s two containers in there to dump spare stuff. I’ve been using one for weapons, one for armour, and I built a third container in the built-in wardrobe for spare junk. It’s not the most convenient setup but it’s enough for now.
You should be able to. I’m dumping most of my uncocked food in the Workbench and can use it for cooking. It only works for the location/town you dumped the items though which while makes sense in a real world sense is just stupid in a gameplay sense.I pushed my way to the Local Leader perk since I assumed this would make for a universal stash. Results inconclusive. It should be listed as apparel.Saw Spectre yesterday with @alexpants. I almost feel guilty for enjoying it as much as I did. From a technical standpoint it’s great. The opening shot if pure film porn.
But the story is rubbish. They destroy any character development that Skyfall made. Also holy shit is it long. Except it’s not. It runs 7 minutes longer than Skyfall and 5 mins longer than Casino Royale, but it just seems to go on forever.
But, with all that said, I still enjoyed it. It was still better than Quantam of Solace.
So, for a Monday morning question:
What is your guilty pleasure movie(s)? I have a soft spot for the Resident Evil movies (except the last one…) and Alien vs. Predator. Even though I should hate everything about them.
I was going to say Bring It On is a guilty pleasure movie but there’s nothing guilty about it.
Also would’ve been my response
That, Mean Girls and Easy A are amongst my favourite films.
Suckerpunch. It’s a terrible movie but it’s so pretty.
Edit: Now I think on it I think Zack Snyder in general is my guilty pleasure. Enjoyed everything he’s made.
Suckerpunch is such a shitty movie.
*starts watching Suckerpunch for the 3rd time*Right? there is something so calming about having no idea what the fuck is happening and it not mattering because nothing makes sense. I feel i would actually rate the movie quite highly if the colour wasn’t so rubbish.
I wish I could take a holiday in your head some time.
I wouldn’t its pretty much just pornography and anime.
And pornographic anime.
The best kind
Except when it’s not. D:I wish I could take a holiday in your head some time.
Have you guys (@rize @freezespreston) seen the director’s cut?
I’d argue it’s a better movie. I mean, it adds an entire musical number!
http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=746855
Yeah, I don’t think there’s a Zack Snyder movie I haven’t enjoyed on at least some level.
I absolutely loathed every minute of Man of Steel.
Except the weird dragonfly Russell Crowe rides at the start.
That was pretty boss.
Dawn of the Dead was legitimately fantastic. Like, probably my favourite zombie movie ever.
Zack Snyder films are also one of mine.
They’re all so pretty and stylistic!
I also like those Resident Evil films – it must be because Milla.
I liked the cinematography in spectre, the whole mexico city thing was brilliantly shot. Even the lighting, i feel the lighting director in bond films just does everything sooooo right. The plot was fucking terrible. But i feel like i still really enjoyed it.
THE HANDGUN SHOOTING DOWN A HELICOPTER PISSED ME OFF WAY MORE THAN IT SHOULD OF. THAT WASNT A SATISFYING ENDING AT ALLI actually am disappointed I saw Spectre before I saw this:
I have watched nearly all pokemon movies that have been released and my friend and i keep a keen eye for releases of new movies and watch them nearly as soon as they come out. I have no idea why but i get a lot of enjoyment from them.
I feel like the answer should be Super Mario Bros.
But I don’t feel any guilt about it at all.
Oh, probably Fast & Furious series. Maybe moreso 1-4, since 5 and onwards was where it just took the silliness up to screw-bad-this-is-rad levels.
I like Man of Steel.
Fuck the haters, I’m not guilty about it at all. Sure, it wasn’t like Superman: The Movie, but I liked the layer of mistrust between supes and the military on top of it.
I like it too. So there.
I enjoyed it.
It had issues, but I enjoyed it.
Looking forward to Bats v Supes.
Not that I’ve watched it since it was in the cinema, but I feel the same about AvP.
Otherwise? It’s tough. I’m happy to enjoy a movie for a single aspect. For instance, Oblivion was an extremely dumb movie, but it looked really good, so I enjoyed it for that. Hardly a top movie for me, but just an example that springs to mind.
Oh, wait. Chick flicks. Love Actually is wonderful, and I will hear nothing against it. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a masterpiece (it really isn’t), Mamma Mia is the pinnacle of cinematic greatness (it’s fucking awful, but it has ABBA songs so you shut your whore mouth).
Clueless, Mean Girls, Easy A, and 10 Things I Hate About You are the perfect representations of everything right and wrong about highschool (and how it’s typically portrayed in movies).
And unlike the rest of the movies here About Time is actually a good movie, so I don’t know why I’m mentioning it.
Also, Legally Blonde. That movie is exactly as dumb as it needs to be to hide how smart it is.
I agree…mostly because I had to study both in English 😛
About time is my go to romance movie, its subtle, well made, funny and just a good film.
Ive watch it like 3 times.
As far as I’m concerned, Love Actually is THE Christmas movie. Watch it every year, without fail
Super Mario Brothers is mine.
Also Clerks II. Not because it’s clever (although it is), but just because it’s foul-mouthed and dirty.
And depending on your opinion of Hugh Grant, Music and Lyrics too.
Ooh, I’d forgotten Music and Lyrics, that one was fun.
I love the AvP and the RE movies too. And speaking of game movies, I really like the Doom movie.
Loved the opening scene of Spectre, especially how it was set during
Dia de los muertos. Also, the amount of people I’ve heard pronounce it “spec-tra” is a bit depressing.
I seem to love a lot of movies that most people don’t, but the only ones I can think of off the top of my head are
Dumb and Dumber
Dumb and Dumber To
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
oh, and Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil
Edit: Just thought of another one, CB4.
Why is Tucker and Dale vs Evil on this list? It’s brilliant, and does to Deliverance what Scream did to Halloween.
Also… Jim Carrey is a boss, and I won’t hear a bad word said about him. Unless you’re criticizing him for being an anti-vaxxer, because fuck that guy.
Always loved Jim Carrey, but I know a lot of people can’t stand him.
Also, yeah TADVE is freakin’ awesome, but I only know one other person that’s watched it, although he thought it was awesome too. So yeah, I think it’s more of a movie that people haven’t seen/heard of rather than one that people don’t like.
I guess old school Godzilla movies maybe
10 things I hate about you is a chick flick that I love
I love dumb action movies. Silly plot, big splosions. Scifi for the win (The Fifth Element springs to mind). Also, old-school Disney movies like Robin Hood. Pretty much anything by Mel Brooks.
Hola Tayberinos
Quietish weekend filled with BOARD GAMES… and Fallout.
Had friends over Saturday for games. Played a couple of rounds of Burgle Bros (Good lord is it fun), Suburbia (the Inc expansion is really good) and tried to introduce Spyfall, to mixed response. Think I’ll try it with a different group, because it needs a bit of theatricality which my group doesn’t always possess. Then we played Cosmic Encounter, which was a hit. The two candidate winners duked it out while someone who’d been sitting quietly all game took victory through alliances, a masterful strategy. When she said “I’ve just won” we all counted colonies and went “huh. OH MY GOD HOW DID WE LET THAT HAPPEN” which is such a fun thing.
Sunday went to a mate’s place and played some magic. Man I love my Xenagos deck, and this card http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Managorger+Hydra is kinda nuts for a 3 drop, and in commander especially just gets massive quick.
A Monday Morning Question: How’s the family?
Wife is ridonkulously sick, my eldest is getting a real attitude about her meaning her teenage years are going to be a blast and I’m pretty sure at times my youngest may be retarded,we found her last night banging her head against the wall in a fit of giggles.
How about yours?
My daughter has decided riding the dog like a horse is a blast and has proceeded to now try to push people and other babies over to do the same.
I wish i could get away with that sort of shit…
Anyone who says little boys are more trouble than little girls has never had to deal with little girls.
At the cafe on Saturday she walked up to a boy, smiled at him and then threw a toy right at his head then laughed histerically.
She then shirtfronted another little girl.
She seems to excel at making me feel awkward in front of other parents. I’ve lost count of how many times i’ve appologised for her.
Mother is moderating on a TRT rate all week, so I think she’s about to upgrade even more on her sewing machine. Dad’s home looking after the dog. IDK what my brother is up to. Pop’s still sick, family relationship there is still a mess. Cousin’s been texting me about Fallout, apparently he thought the game worked by just putting points in SPECIAL each level so he has no perks but crazy stats.
Family is fine, board games are more important.
Canberra has a monthly board gaming event called GLOG (Gungahlin Library Open Gaming) where a bunch of nerds cram themselves into a library conference room all day and play games. It’s rad. It’s rad enough that the fact the lights weren’t working wasn’t too bad.
I went with the vague plan of checking out a bunch of games I hadn’t played before.
Of course, that meant the first game I played was Codenames. Then Village. Then Discworld: Ankh-Morpork, Skull and finally Spyfall. I taught the table how to play all of those games except for Skull (Village was with experienced players but we busted out expansions that I had to teach).
What a complete and utter failure.
Except I got to play rad games that I enjoy. Hell, I even won at Ankh-Morpork as Dragon King of Arms. Never done that before. My plan was simple: get all the moneys early and then hope that people don’t think I have that win condition, leaving me with the responsibility of cleaning up trouble markers so that whoever had Dragon King of Arms didn’t win.
Going to remember that one for later.
I always make it a rule to play at least one game I don’t own at board games things. Last time I played Istanbul, which is a cool guy. Also, I’ve played Stone Age at the last two I’ve been to, which is cool but I don’t want to buy.
One of the biggest problems I have is that I don’t play the games that I do own enough.
There are some titles that I’ve only played once or twice. So I don’t mind too much when I get an excuse to play them again (getting Village to the table is always a win for me).
The last board game thingy I went to, I got to play Stone Age and Notre Dame for the first time. Those were rad. I may be able to go to another one tonight, where I could either get more games of 7 Wonders Duel out or maybe get Broom Service to the table.
I’m still yet to play Spartacus and Tiny Epic Galaxies out of my collection, so they’re certainly planned for next time I can.
I also caved and decided to order Paperback because another mate liked Burgle bros. I think Tim Fowers should now be giving me a commission.
Probably. I can only find it on Amazon or on his site.
Stone Age for me needs just a little extra something. It’s too easy to just pick one of the strategies and dominate it.
Like, “I’ll be the guy who outbreeds everyone” or “I’ll be the guy who invests in tech to hit my rolls.” Just needs a little more for me.
Next board game thing I go to I think I need to try between two cities
I almost won in Stone Age by having a bit of everything. Any game where you have control over when the game ends can let you pull the rug out from other players when they’re setting up for their final flurry of points. Which is exactly what I did, taking a good chunk of points from huts to end the game on a turn everyone was gathering resources.
Still lost to someone who got a few card bonuses that gave them a better overall strategy than mine.
Edit: That being said, it’s a worker placement game with quite a lot of luck. I don’t like that in my worker placement games.
Between Two Cities is rad. It’s an insta-buy for me.
I’ll try it first, because it looks good, but Tile laying to make cities is what I have Suburbia for and I love it so.
The best thing I can say about it is that the semi-co-op aspect helps solves the newbie draft dilemma. When a new player sits down to play a game with drafting, they’re not going to know the value of anything. Working together, you can help guide a new player towards some rad plan in some way.
Oh and the city building thing is quite neat, as is the end game scoring mechanic.
It does a lot of things that I like in games.
@trjn I figure it’s cool, but I have other games in the niche and my collection isn’t at the point where I need to double up on niches.
One I really need to play again is Race for the Galaxy, which once I grokked more I loved playing. I also need someone to teach me Roll for the galaxy, because one of those would be sweet.
Saw the new commander decks at my local yesterday… so much shiny…
I’m getting the Black/white one, with Daxos the returned.
Even though it makes me sad, because original flavour not-dead Daxos is a star in my “take your stuff and use it against you” deck http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=373664
Holy hell – that is one hell of a card.
Quick Q – can commander cards be used in regular play as well as commander, minus the commander cards.
um, depends.
Commander cards are legal in any format where they would otherwise be legal. So, all cards in commander are legal in legacy (in fact, one of the cards in the 2013 precons was stupidly valuable for a bit, google True-Name nemesis for the sordid history), cards that are already modern legal are usable in modern, and cards that are in standard are in standard.
On your kitchen table, however, it’s whatever you want. You’ll find the Commander pre-cons are constructed for commander, so they have interesting multiplayer interactions, and commander decks tend towards the expensive mana cost end of the spectrum, so a commander deck playing against a regular deck will probably lose before it comes properly online.
Interesting. Very interesting.
Thanks mate – still trying to get my head around all this.
My advice is just pick a format or two and focus on it with your friends, because ultimately that’s why you play, right? I know some people get into competing in the store and heavily get into tournament play, but for me the most fun is sitting around a table and laughing with your buddies, and swearing at one person who built his girlfriend’s deck which she’s successfully piloted into destroying everything including him while he stares on mortified. That’s what I play commander for.
Work out if you’re a Timmy, a Johnny, or a Spike http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/mr11b I’m somewhere in TImmy/Johnny.
That was actually a really interesting read – thanks mate.
My brother in law is definitely 110% Timmy – just wants strong ass-kicking out of the packet. Big monsters and big fun – he hates losing though.
I’m also very much a timmy is most ways, just because i don’t really have the time to be hardcore in the constructing, but i do like to play around with things a little, that makes me a bit of a Johnny.
I don’t really have much care for tournament play.
@chuloopa I’d stick to just building for-fun kitchen table for now then, don’t worry about standard/modern/whatever.
FWIW, my decks are almost entirely commander these days, I think I have one draft leftovers deck I can pull out. Got a mate whose playgroup is all constructed weirdness, whom I’ve played with, and it’s fun (but I’m nowhere near competitive there).
One day I’ll build a cube too http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/tpc12/intro_to_cube
Alright I guess. Sister continues to mostly live at her boyfriend’s place, parents seem to continue to tolerate my presence. So things could be worse? 😛
My baby was stolen and I’m scouring the wasteland in search of him!……. #fallout4islife
Wife is 7 months pregnant and just wants her body back. She finishes work in 2 weeks. Preparing to be a scrooge for the next 12 months.
My daughter recently got bitten by someone at day care, threw a punch at his head. Secretly very proud.
One of my dogs has dug out 3 times in the last 2 weeks – 2 trips to the vet to collect him and most recently he was at the gate waiting to come in for breakfast before I got out of bed. In his most recent foray we think he was running in the storm water channel/creek extension at the park near our house. Theory is based on the fact he smelt like creek and his attempts yesterday to drag me into the same storm water channel during his walk.
Have a uni report due next week. People on leave in team from next week so work is going to be hectic from now through to middle of December.
Edit… So much ‘bad’ stuff… guess there are a few silver linings – my daughter knows how to throw a punch, my dog loves his adventures, not buying anything for a while should let me clear a game or two I’ve been sitting on.
Immediate family are fine – nearly at the end of kindy orientations, and the little boy is enjoying his swimming lessons.
The next few weeks are going to be hard for my family. My little sister (who passed away in september) would have had her birthday next week, and christmas is going to be sad too. Finally finished Bloodborne. That’s GOTY material right there.
Now to go back and find the other half of the game i skipped my first time through.
I’ve been meaning to go back and do that but I beat so many of the bosses with one try on my first playthrough that I don’t wanna shatter my ego by getting stuck at one in New Game +.
I skipped the entire chalice bits so that’s my motivation. But I’m thinking I’ll put off my second run till the expansion is out. Also that first try thing, not an issue with me. I died plenty.
Apologies, as I haven’t frequented recently. Assessing career/life options and mobile data plans, as I’ve told Red (a week late – sorry!)
Was pretty bored with Guitar Hero Live, so I packaged it all back up and resealed it and took it back to Target for a credit. Was pretty excited about picking up Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider with said credit until I made the mistake of ringing my wife to tell her that Target credited me $119 instead of the $109 I originally paid. She then exclaimed, ‘Great! Now we can buy everyone’s Christmas presents!’
Ugh, it is a better idea than splurging on the latest games that I’ll likely hardly play more than two hours of anyway.
I initially set out to do the right thing and enquired with EB about a trade in where they sternly told me they would give $30 credit.
Me: We’re talking about the new Guitar Hero, right?
EB: Yes.
Me: You sell this for $149. Is $30 for the guitar controller or the game itself?
EB: Both.
Me: …
Had last week off work which was mostly wasted as I was sick from the previous Friday until about Wednesday. On the upside, I was strong enough to go to the Fallout 4 midnight launch but still lost a bunch of playtime to sick-induced sleep. After wallowing in my own sedentariness for a week some frineds who relocated to NZ earlier in the year made a surprise visit. My buddy was here basically to see his newborn nephew and hadn’t planned to meet up with anyone (because it’s always so hectic feeling like you have to meet up with EVERYONE) but found himself free on Saturday night, so we hit up Coco Cubano in Parramatta, where I spent several hours drinking far too much Cuban beer and Caribbean rum. Got my first Uber which was a generally positive experience. Downside is I spent all of Sunday sleeping off the booze/hangover after getting home at about 6am, so now I’m back at work and feel like the weekend was wasted, which is so dumb considering what a great time I had Saturday night. Just how my stupid brain functions, making me think the only “downtime” I have is when I’m sitting doing nothing. I do enough of that at work!
How about Bun’s Pen Island? Because it’s your little piece amongst the sea of the internet for you to write.
bunspenisland.wordpress.com
Ergh. Reply fail? Been a while since I got one of those.
Been a while since you had a pen island too. Next weekend?
Yes.
I read that as Penis Land. I am definitely an adult.

I take no responsibility for my actions before the first coffee of the day.
I think it’s worthy of it’s own post. After all, who doesn’t like pen islands?
I totally forgot that new Battlefront is imminent. Still need to decide if I’m going to get it now or soonish…and apparently AC: Sin Dickette is out on PC now too? Shit, I thought I had more time between Fallout and the sudden avalanche of new games.
*stares pensively at Just Cause 3 peeking from round the corner*
What are all those games? Mods for Fallout 4 or something?
Sound like nude mods.
Ass Ass In-@scree’d: Sin Dickette.
Don’t call @Scree a dickette, she’s quite nice!
I have no idea what’s going on, expect for that time you guys tried to make my website name have to do with assassin’s creed.
Having siblings that are young enough to be your own kids is a little weird and I feel more like an uncle than a brother. In any case, babysitting is hard and I don’t know how parents actually cope with toddlers that run around at a million miles an hour.
I didn’t play any RPGs over the weekend but I played some Blood Bowl yesterday. Nuffle giveth and Nuffle taketh away. I had one absolutely stellar game with Elves and ridiculous luck (so much so that my opponent accused me of cheating) followed by Orcs and everything going terribly, terribly wrong. At least the troll didn’t kill any goblins by eating them.
It’s called ABC4Kids. It’s channel 22 and it’s the best thing in the whole world if you have a child under 5 in the house.
Urg, I keep getting the unresponsive script thing every time I come to TAY:
Script: http://ajax.googleapis.com/aja…/1.8.2/jquery.min.js?ver=1.8.2:2
Any idea how to stop that happening?
Throw computer into the sea.
Damn straight!
Fire?
Only happens on the TAY page, nowhere else. Weird.
Morning, TAY.
Went and saw a bunch more films in the Japanese Film Festival on the weekend. Some good, some not so good. Surprisingly my favourite all up was Flying Colors, a movie about a bottom-tier student who tries to get into a top-tier university. I wasn’t expecting much from it judging from the trailers/reviews because it didn’t sound that interesting but it was actually super good. All of the side characters have there own mini story arcs that are all wrapped up at the end, I liked it a lot. 100 Yen Love was also very good. With some luck they might release the DVDs here.
I’ve also been playing a bit more of the new Fatal Frame too. Spooky! I like how the game throws unique ghosts at you that have different movesets relating to how the person died. Like (spoiler tagged a ghost type just in case. Nothing related to story or anything)
the ghost of a woman who hanged herself comes at you by swaying side to side on a rope. You can aim at the rope to ‘cut’ her down and she’ll start using the rope around her neck kinda like a whip. Or a drowned ghost who floats around creating bubbles and when they attack you you get wet. It’s pretty cool in a horrible kinda way 😛
EDIT: Also this https://twitter.com/PowalenAU/status/665475173076725760
Fatal Frame sounds cool, but there’s no physical release in Aus, right? I’d have to download?
That’s Project Zero, right? Maiden of Blackwater?
It does have a physical release, I think it’s even mostly limited editions possibly. At least, last I checked JB didn’t have a non-limited version listed. Was considering getting a copy myself, just for the sake of rounding out the Wii U collection a little more since people seem to like it.
There is actually a physical release! https://ebgames.com.au/wiiu-206747-Project-Zero—Maiden-of-the-Black-Water-Wii-U I wish I’d known that before buying it on the eShop.
It is a lot of fun (coming from someone who doesn’t like horror games :P), but you can tell it’s a pretty low budget, niche game. Voice acting isn’t great, walking controls are clunky, etc. So your mileage may vary! I like it. There’s a demo of the first two chapters in the eShop so you can give it a try.
Oooooh, I’ve just been searching for Fatal Frame everywhere. Haha! Thanks guys! 🙂
Sorry, I probably contributed to that 😛
Fatal Frame is just a much better title!
*clears throat* The reason it’s called Project Zero is because the small group who were making the original were called Zero. It’s called Zero in Japan and Project Zero in Pal (because it was their project! Geddit?) but was changed to fatal frame in America. In fact, the Fatal frame ability didn’t even come in until the second game. It’s really freaking handy.
Also, the voice acting has never been great (Mafuyu in Project Zero 1 comes to mind). The walking has always been slow. It’s to add to the tension. But I tend to run everywhere anyway.
I’m up to eighth drop if I remember right.
Sorry for the dribble
Yeah, I’ve come to like the slow walking. Really lets you get into the atmosphere of walking around a haunted place. Took a while to get used to but I sorta like it now.
Yeah, I like to mosey in games, so don’t think the walking will be a problem. Will download demo. 🙂
It’s big but I think it’s worth it as it’s the first 2 chapters.
Yeah, try the demo before dropping 80 bucks on it 😛 Just because I can see why it isn’t for everyone!
I can’t stand the owner of the inn because he swings at you. Such a frustrating move. How far in are you?I think I’m up to the Eighth Chapter now.
Is that where
You have to rescue Hisoka? The last mission I cleared was where I had to search for Hisoka at a Lake (which was the Seventh Drop I think). The Eighth is a Ren mission I think. That’s what I’m up to then. I had to take a break after rescuing Miu as that chapter was so damn long. It just kept going and going and I was becoming frustrated with the chase scene as I had no idea where to go. The Black bride* kept killing me.Not her actual name, just what I’m calling her. Might do the Hisoka mission sometime today then.
It really was super long! I had to complete it in three parts 😛 And even though it was so long there is still a lot of that house left to be explored later! (unless I missed how to unlock the flower locks). That unbeatable ghost really got me as well. Could not figure out what to do! Eventually figured out you just have to run away from her 😛 Scariest looking ghost so far!All the games have had that chase part, but I kind of could tell where to go in the others. This one, not so muchQuick question, have you played any of the other Project Zeros?
@scree Never! First one.
Well, do you know they remade the second (everyone’s favourite but mine) on the wii?
https://ebgames.com.au/wii-157631-Project-Zero-2—Wii-Edition-Nintendo-Wii
Do they still hold up today?
This one is a remake and they’ve actually have improved it.
I also have 1 and 2 on original xbox, 3 on ps2 and 4 on wii, but it’s Japanese. You have to use an emulator because they never released it outside of Japan
7000th Kotaku comment, c’mon don’t waste it monkey.
There, that oughta do it. Giggity!
Secret SanTAY 2015
I think once I finish organising you lot I qualify for my Cat Herding Scout Badge.
What is this? It’s like your work Secret Santa except with people you like and respect even though they’ll still steal your lunches in a heartbeat and 5% less chance of getting a sex toy in the mail.
How to join the festivities? Send me an email to binoter at the Hotmail with your mailing address and you shall get on the list. Not The List, that is @dc’s responsibility and god have mercy on you if you’re on that.
Have a few people building up on the list but it works better the more we have so don’t be shy. If you’re a relative or completely new person you are highly encouraged to participate. I promise I won’t sign you up to too many amateur amputee midget bestial snuff porn mailing lists, just the ones I’ve signed everyone else up to as a way of bringing is closer as a community.
Done.
Oh and For Your Height Only was a fantastic introduction to the amateur amputee midget bestial snuff porn genre, thanks for the sign-up.
I think there are websites that can automate some of the assignations.
https://www.drawnames.com/secret-santa-generator
I kind of like the ritual of doing it manually. There’s a bunch of different ways I could do it but something about using the paper and hat system that’s cathartic.
Did you get my email? I sent it (I think) the first time you mentioned this, but I’m always paranoid about this stuff.
You were the first one I got.
That’s sad.
Did you get mine?
Yep.
Did you get my email?
I did.
Good. Glad I got to you in time after not doing so last year.
You should already have my email.
I do. Was going to ask if @batgut was in as well.
@batguy rather.
He’s out this year.
So I signed up to Stan over the weekend, for the sole reason of watching Ash vs. The Evil Dead.
Verdict:
0 regrets. That show is absolutely freaking amazing. Sam Raimi is back on form – he was almost there with Drag Me To Hell, but I just felt it was missing something. Apparently that something was Bruce Campbell, who I have a serious heterosexual man-crush on. Evil Dead 2 is in my top 5 movies of all time, and I am enjoying this show just as much.I didn’t even realise that was a TV series rather than a movie til quite recently.
I think I need it. Bruce is boss, and it’s been far too long since I was watching Burn Notice 😛
Also that reminds me I still haven’t gotten around to seeing My Name Is Bruce.
10/10 would watch it. Seriously entertaining stuff.
MNIB was surprisingly good. It’s lame and corny and somewhat predictable… which is exactly what you want from a Bruce Campbell movie.
Why would you sign up for @Quiz_B? Does he have some mailing list I’m not aware of?
He only lets his favourites in. Sorry, buddy.
Dammit Stan! I loved you! STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
Shhh. Only dreams now.
Been watching it at a friends place and I’m pretty impressed by the way they handle comedy. They do that thing the Archer writers do where they know exactly when to back off the joke and take the genre seriously. Instead of having Ash fumble with the gun so we can laugh at him being a buffoon they have him kick some serious arse then have him act like a buffoon. I mean they really must have an insanely clear picture of what they want to make in order to walk such a fine line.
It’s pretty close to what Evil Dead 2 accomplished, which is quite the achievement given that ED2 is a masterpiece.
A quick tip for people playing Fallout 4: When you get to the town of Goodneighbor one of the shopkeepers is a lady ghoul who was alive pre-war, she mentions that there’s another pre-war ghoul living in the hotel if you wanted to talk to them. Do that. Seriously…
Literally the last thing I did in the game before quitting last. 🙂
Spoilers
What did you do with him? I sent him to Sanctuary. He was so sad when you first talk to him but he cheers up when you send him to Sanctuary which is nice.Yeah I did much the same.
I did say right at the start when he was being turned away that if I found his body, I’d wear his hat for the whole game as a tribute. Giving him a job running my Greygarden general trader seems even better.Hi!
First day back at work. Hmmm. Still all the email to read and noone seems to expect me to be doing anything other than reading emails and clearing my inbox for now so pretty happy.
Had a wall of text ready to gush about Pandora’s Tower, but jt it went away, so I’ll just say that it’s amazing, seriously amazing.
The topic of dopplegangers came up at bowling on Saturday. It’s much harder to show off my gay porn doppleganger now that my face is covered in hair 😛
Also surprisingly hard to find any pictures of myself on my phone. Ended up having to go back to the start of last year, and use a reference shot I took for building the Shredder helmet so the others could see what I normally look like.
https://twitter.com/FreezeSPreston/status/661126538742530052?s=09
I cannot believe it was over a year ago already that I was there with you guys.
My red briefs were in honour of your absence 😛
Anyone been following the crazy ARG that the Binding of Isaac has set off? People had to actually dig for a hidden statue o,0
Yeah, read all about it. Pretty awesome stuff.
TAY RPG Pathfinder tonight at 7:30pm AEST, 8pm ACDT, and 8:30pm AEDT. Starring:
@redartifice @tech_knight @freezespreston @beeawwb
Saying farewell to Izumi aka @negativezero who now resides in the Land of the Free, the party wakes up in Vinks after a fairly rambunctious evening and must find their next bout of adventure.
Did she get shanghaied?
That is yet to be determined. Mayhaps @negativezero can shed some light on where Izumi has ventured now?
“I must go now, my planet needs me…”?
She couldn’t handle her secret love Lundgredolph taking another woman and dashed herself off a cliff into the sea.
I dunno, I reckon she’d be more the type to go full yandere and murder them in their sleep and then magically force Lungredolph-senpai to notice her instead, rather than get suicidal.
Incidentally, how good is your will save? 😛
-2.
😛
I’d expect she’s off gathering eye of newt etc. for that little ritual of hers. 😛
Old Man Freeze Reads The News
Amber Heard did not show up for her court date over dog smuggling – Why the hell would she? Her attitude now is “Fuck Australia” and already said she’s never returning to the country so why return for a small magistrates hearing that would end in a small fine? Yet Joyce is huffing and puffing about it, does he not have anything better to do?
Gamergate have managed to feature themselves in the Paris attacks by spreading photoshopped picture of one of their critics and claiming he was one of the attackers – *long drawn out sigh*
France retaliates with biggest bombing raid they’ve ever conducted – ISIS deserve everything they get and more but when you stop and think of how many in the training camps and recruitment centres were dumb kids in a bad place or don’t know better it boils your piss even more. They hide behind civilians and throw out the vulnerable to die and how do you even effectively fight that? Aargh, everything they touch turns to shit and there’s no real solutions.
Adam Hills has called for Pauline Hanson to be hung from the Sydney Harbour Bridge – Dafuq Adam.
The Wiggles are doing a one off original members adults only show at a pub next year – Holy crap do I want to go to that.
A kid featured in a Humans of New York post wanted to be a reporter like his dad and said his dream interview would be with the director of NASA and outlined the questions he’d ask. The director of NASA responded to him answering all his questions – Goddamn NASA can be amazing. They’re so accessible for kids and encouraging of their interests in science. Why can’t we have more of that?
What do you mean I need more work to keep me busy? I’m not bored. You are.
I never want the Hansons and Bernardis of the world killed. Why create martyrs?
I want them to be repudiated, humiliated, and them to live a long life filled with regret over the fact they spent so much time and energy being horrible and wrong.
I dont want them to do that either, i just want them to realize they are being callous bastards, apologize and help make other people who followed them into decent humans. Then they spend their remaining years with family being happy and smiling. Everyone deserves happiness. More happiness means less anger and i think the world needs less anger.
Humans of New York and NASA combination is all the feel-goods.
When you say adults only Wiggles performance my mind goes very interesting places.
Hot potato hot potato!
Mashed banana mashed banana :S
You sicko.
Toot toot chugga chug a big red… car?
Still remember before they were The Wiggles, they were The Cockroaches.
Sounds like they’re taking lessons from Peter Coombe and doing a cabaret show with all the swears.
Regarding the Hills thing, in case you missed it he did clarify/apologise: https://www.facebook.com/officialadamhills/posts/10154050750289316
Usually he’s better than that. He would have known the double meaning, he’s a smart guy and I’m just surprised he decided to go for it.
I dunno, reading it I think it pretty likely there was a strong enough distinction between “hung” and “hanged” in his mind for it to not occur to him at all. I get like that all the time with my friend at work, I think of something and only see it from the one direction while he sees it from the opposite direction and neither of us has any idea what the other is talking about, even though we (eventually) figure out we’re talking about the same thing. Then suddenly it seems ridiculously obvious.
Considering it was on Twitter it could have just been a heat of the moment thing and he didn’t realise at the time. We all do that.
Or it could be that he really did mean to lynch her and this is some impressive PR backpeddling 😛
I think it was meant to hint at that as a joke but it was a misfire. It happens. Guess I’m just a little surprised as I really do admire the guy and he’s usually so on point.
He really doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, I think it was an honest mistake. When I read it I didn’t think of lynching, but as soon as someone else mentioned it, I could see why people freaked out.
Everyone makes mistakes. He’s at least got enough integrity to own it and apologise. Poor joke delivered badly.
Might have something to do with a recently ousted prime minister doing his best to return us to the dark ages? Who needs science when you have DAMES AND KNIGHTS!
All of my what. I wish the public & especially the media (including people like Adam Hills )would just ignore that bitch. I’m sick of seeing her vile racist opinion in the media. It only makes her think we want to hear from her >_>
NASA are still fucking awesome. I’d totally work for them if I could.
Woo, back at work today, after two weeks off – the first week was a lovely week at Fraser Island. Stayed up at Orchid Beach, around the headland from the top of 75 mile beach, so spent the time swimming in the lakes, driving around and generally relaxing. Even made the trek up to Sandy Cape, which was cool, tho didn’t have time to walk on the giant dune due to the tides. It’s amazing how much sand there was on the beach, tho – Ngkala Rocks was a flat beach, and the Maheno was nearly covered. Didn’t get to go to Kingfisher Bay or the southern tracks/Central Station, as it was too far to do in one day with the tides being what they were. The second week was spent nursing my sunburnt feet, which resulted in an inch-tall blister covering a full quarter of my foot by the time I finally made it back to Sydney on Tuesday.
On the upside, I got to catch up on the newer releases I was annoyed about missing – got through the Legacy of the Void Campaign – and promptly got squashed in the second epilogue mission, because I haven’t played as Terran since the WoL campaign in 2010. Great conclusion to the story (yes, I’m one of the five people who only play Starcraft for the campaign). Protoss are pretty fun to play, too – some of the unit variants are interesting (Zealotos who revive after death, DTs that revive at the shrine on death, void rays whose beams arc to nearby units), but had a tonne of fun just beating most missions by spamming void rays. 😛
Got about five hours into Fallout, and have mixed feelings – on the one hand, the intro to the minutemen was cool, but finding the prospect that everything is potentially useful means I fill my bags with random junk – at least in Skyrim I knew that a broom was useless. Will persist, tho – the bits that engaged me were pretty fun, and the story is compelling.
Also lost Sunday to Anno 2205; it runs like arse – fluctuates wildly between 60 fps and 12…, but framerate isn’t super crucial in a city builder (or so I keep telling myself), and the different biome mechanics mix things up nicely – eg. The arctic region citizens have to be housed near production buildings because the factories generate heat which stops citizens from freezing to death. NPC quests tend to fall into about 4-5 types, which gets a bit old after a while, and the passive-aggressive NPC interruptions of my city-building telling me I should go blow things up with big boats are terrible. But the core gameplay is still mostly the same as 2070, so enjoying it anyway. Kinda like the whole “working on three maps at once” thing – makes it feel like I’m building a proper global corporation.
Unless you were crafting staves… 😀
These days, it’s about five people who care about Starcraft for anything other than the campaign. Even at the height of SC2, most people played for the campaign. It’s a rather weird thing.
My copy of Fallout 4 arrived. Only thing is I imagine playing it will eat into my Rise of the Tomb Raider time, so I can’t decide whether I should finish Rise off first before jumping into Fallout or whether I should just alternate between the two games.
I am loving Fallout. I’d finish Rise though, because Fallout is a looser narrative.
Rewatching the Uncharted 4 E3 Gameplay vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB0xy74Zrj8
This video is just so amazing. The dialogue is incredibly responsive to events and player actions, and they’ve hidden a lot of the choreography very well. And it’s sooooooo fun to watch. I can’t wait for this game. Cannot. Wait.
You can spot where they cheat the loadscreens too.
Been a while, so why don’t we play the last played song game.
Everything About You – Ugly Kid Joe
Kanye West remix of Drunk in love by beyonce
My new driving song. Its pretty gnarly
Hora Decubitus- Charles Mingus
Sunshine (feat. Reggie Watts) by Flight Facilities
Always puts a smile on my face. Without fail.
Also – his dance moves are amazing.
Google Play tells me it was Crying At The Discotheque – Alcazar
https://youtu.be/7CiOWcUVGJM
Klaus Schulze – Floating
atom bomb – Fallout 4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEKdt2y1-Mc (I think this is the song?)
That’s the one.
URAAAAAANIUM FEEEVER!
It’s a man?
I don’t know how to add links to words because I am a terrible person and all that, so…
Wayfarer – In Flames
Cadence of Her Last Breath (Instrumental version) – Nightwish. That whole album has some amazing music.
Play school – Bear hunt
The Grid – The Tron Legacy Soundtrack
Whenever I hear someone talk about The Grid I think of this song.
Glad I’m not the only one
shhhh…we’re showing our age 😉

WELL THEN.. Accidental reply fails happen to the most experienced of taybies.
It happens when you spend too much time in Pen Island.
Helped my sister out by pulling out the weeds at her place, now my lower back hurts.
Fuck gardening.
Did you pick up a hoe?
I only seem to be able to upvote this once. There must be a problem with the upvote system.
No, otherwise there’d be burning pain, not back pain.
Well, it’s called horticulture for a reason…
Hnnnnnggggg!!! MONDAY you’re getting in the way of me and Fallout 4!! THIS WON’T END WELL FOR YOU =@
*starts jacking Fallout 4 into veins*….. SHUT UP I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM.
You have become addicted to Chems.
Goddamit. I knew I should’ve levelled up the party boy perk =@
Put this on Twitter earlier. This video perfectly captures my first encounter with a Fatman in Fallout 4… potential spoilers, I guess?
Yay, replacement Shovel Knight finally got here. Maybe I can actually start playing it now.
3DS? So jealous.
Almost went and got Wii U version as well, but luckily they sold out before I could 😛
So Half Life 2: Lost Coast is selling for more than HL2, Ep 1, Ep 2 and Deathmatch combined.
It’s a freaking playable tech demo. Why!?
Or you could buy Half-Life Complete for the same price as Lost Coast (which includes everything).
I know right….
… this really makes me want to play Lost Coast. CURSE YOU GABEN!
Heh. Wasn’t that free back in the day?
I think they handed it out with graphic card purchases or something. I know I’ve got a copy and I know I didn’t pay for it (and I wouldn’t have pirated it).
Yeah same haha. Though, I think I got mine with my retail copy of The Orange Box, ah those were the days, heh.
Finished Seven Deadly Sins last night. Decided I loved it. Some rad and super creepy designs, action had some truly bad ass moments and managed to avoid a lot of the asshattery that a lot of anime I’ve seen devolves into. Super fun watch.
Started on Knights of Sidonia, there’s some intriguing concepts there if a little obtusely presented but I fell asleep about 15 mins in so can’t really make a call on it yet.
I hated Sidonia the first time I tried it. That all CG thing is so stiff and offputting. Protip: the pink-haired girls that look like they’re all carbon copies of each other that confuse the shit out of everything are actually clones and you’re not meant to be able to tell them apart.
If you can. track down the BD releases via the Jack Sparrow method. The final episode has about 10 mins extra and the broadcast version (which netflix has) has a lot of censored violence. Don’t get attached to anyone – people tend to die. It’s a very dark show and feels like something out of the late 90s, like Blue Gender or something. I found I really liked it when I gave it the time though.
The manga is stunningly well drawn if that floats your boat.
EDIT: Also the Sidonia opening theme is pretty awesome.
I just figured they were identical triplet plants or whatever the hell everyone is supposed to be.
Everyone except the main character photosynthesizes yeah, but I don’t think they’re plants. I don’t know how it works though. A wizard must have done it.
Holy crap. My last half hour:
*Installs updates for Windows, restarts*
*installs November update for Windows, restarts to bluescreen*
*tries automated fix – can’t fix, gets stuck in reboot loop*
*tries cold boot – same problem*
*tries rollback – rollback fails, reboots*
*tries refresh – can’t refresh*
*tries reset – can’t reset*
*tries ‘prayer to the dark gods’*
*Windows boots normally, no data loss, no observable issues, with a small notification saying it couldn’t install an update*
Moral of the story – Nalar has amazing tech support.PC Master Race FTW!
I may have a bunch of bookmarks to show off tomorrow.
Do you need a demonstration model? I can wear something alluring.
Are the book marks long enough to make a pseudo bow out of?
No.
Um, I don’t know?
I think the correct answer here is ‘yes’.
Woohoo! Battlefront’s on the way. With any luck it’ll arrive on Wednesday.
Edit: Although EB’s ETA is a full week.
Whee, Fallout 4 just crashed. I guess I should take the hint & stop playing.
I’m mostly still just pilfering shit & hoarding crap to upgrade stuff lol. Cause why do any quests?
I painted one of my many sets of power armour in a Vault-Tec theme, even gave it the Vault Boy headlamp, which is pretty rad, projects a Vault Boy where ever you shine it! Another set has hot rod flames, sadly it does not make it go faster =(
Soo I need some help from any TAYbies who are familiar with eBay.
I made an offer like 8 days ago on GTX 660 graphics card I low-balled the guy quite a bit, & I then kept on searching across eBay until I came across the GTX 760 for an absolute steal (which arrived today) anyway I messaged the GTX660 bloke saying I didn’t want the card & not to accept my offer, his response was “too bad so sad, I accepted it now pay up, I don’t care what your excuse is.” I tried to reason with him, even offered to pay his listing fee or the postage & leave positive feedback, he totally ignored me & any further correspondence. He has now opened up an unpaid case against me, which honestly I think is unfair, so what can I do after he basically told me to get fucked.
From memory you don’t have to pay squat. You agreed to pay that much when you made the offer and it had an expiration date they’ll tell you that you should paid attention to, but you should still be able to cancel the sale. You might get some negative feedback status BS but if you’re buying/selling enough for your feedback to matter then one bad lot isn’t going to be a problem and if you’re not then it doesn’t really matter.
Cheers man. I thought it would be something like that!
I just sent an appeal to eBay, so let’s see what they say.
If he accepted within the offer period you have to pay.
Don’t put offers in if you don’t intend to follow through. If it expired, then he wouldn’t be able to accept it. Your only thing would be to pay up and list the card for sale again.
Mick’s Awesome Long Weekend In Melbourne (MALWIM) Report:
WARNING!!!!! Very long post incoming:
Wednesday 11th: Flew to Melbourne, caught Skybus into city, and hotel shuttle to my hostel. Checked into my room, then head into the city, stupidly deciding to walk rather taking the tram. Wandered around aimlessly, had a look in Emporium, tried to find out where Mark Hunt was doing a signing but had no idea where. Wandered back to The Forum for the Darkness concert, had tea at the Nandos next to it. Run in to some people outside Nandos and get talking about the Darkness with them. Line up for the concert, end up about 5 or so rows back from the stage. Support act Apes are quite impressive, they’re on Spotify if you want to listen to them. Then The Darkness!!!!! Amazing set, 18 songs, including a good cover of Street Spirit by Radiohead, sellout crowd in full voice to the songs. Justin crowdsurfs with his guitar, just an amazing experience. Getting home after the concert is interesting, although I never felt worried.
Thursday 12th: Wander into town, find out the UFC 193 open workouts are on at 11am, so that’s 3 hours taken care of. Hunt and Silva, Jedrzejczyk and Letourneau, and Rousey and Holm all do workouts. All different, and interviewed by Megan Olivi after their session. Buy a UFC hat ($35, but it’s a nice hat) at the merch tent set up in Fed Square to beat the lines at the event. Flies everywhere, after the workouts are finished, I head to South Bank and grab a gelato from Trampoline (amazing stuff, Salted Caramel and Banoffee Pie flavours). Walk back to hostel, spend the rest of the evening chilling at the bar watching the Socceroos thrash Kyrgyzstan.
Friday 13th (OOOOHHHHH): Go to Harbourtown, find it’s extremely disappointing, although the Toyworld had the Combiner Wars Devastator (Want so much, no money to buy it, no way to get it home). Head to Etihad to meet up with @f4ction for lunch. Go to an Italian restaurant and I have pizza and chinotto, he has gnocchi and cider. Very pleasant time spent chatting with him and prince among men he is, he pays for my lunch. Head back to hostel to chill until I meet up with a friend from high school. (Was going to catch up with @tech_knight, but he had a work function. Catch you next time I’m in Melbourne Techie). Have tea at Schnitz, and then wander around for a bit, then decide to head to Crown. Getting off the tram, we meet up with my high school friend’s wife who is from Washington (state), and who I hadn’t met before. We spend an hour or so chatting in the Crown Food Court before it’s time to call it a night.
Saturday 14th: Weigh ins!!!!! Get to Etihad at 8.00 to line up, get a really great seat with an awesome view of the stage, Bruce Buffer walks past literally 10 metres away. Weigh ins go well, Joanna and Valerie get in each others faces, but Ronda and Holly almost had their fight there and then. Hang out at the Fan Village for a few hours, listen to a live podcast hosted by Megan Olivi with Forrest Griffin, Ross Pearson and James Te Huna. Really interesting stuff. Met up with my friend Trent and stayed for the Dana White Q&A, in which at least half of the questions are requests to do stuff at UFC 193, mostly to meet Joanna or Ronda, some interesting questions though, particularly about the future of the UFC. Go to QVB for lunch, have Oporto, hang out with Trent for a while, then head back to hostel to get ready to meet with @tofu and @mad_danny. Except, there is a snafu, and this doesn’t happen. (Sorry guys, I am a terrible organiser, and I owe you a drink if we ever meet). So I go to see Spectre at Crown Cinemas VMAX. Not the best Bond, but still better than Quantum of Solace or Die Another Day.
Sunday 15th: Decide I need a good breakfast, so head to a place recommended by a friend on Facebook, Hash Specialty Coffee Roasters. Have Pork Fritters Benedict, pulled pork marinated in cola and lemongrass made into fritters, with eggs benedict on top. Tastes amazing, as does the hot chocolate, 85% cocoa poured into a beaker filled with fairy floss, which dissolves into and sweetens the hot chocolate. Check it out, apparently their coffee is great as well, it’s in Hardware Street (off Lonsdale).
UFC 193: Unbelievable event, won’t go on too much about it. Despite being in the third tier of the stadium, I have a really great view of the Octagon. Most of the crowd around me is pretty good, except for a couple of guys who get drunker and chant F. Off Home at Uriah Hall. After it I stay and watch the press conference which was interesting, Mark Hunt is a funny guy. Hang out with Trent a bit more and then go and get Mad Mex for tea.
Today: Check out of my accommodation, head up to Elizabeth Street, go to Minotaur, JB, and Dymocks, finally find the MMA Store Hunt did his signing at, have lunch at Big Boy BBQ, which a few of you know. Best ribs and wings I’ve ever eaten, will be going there whenever I’m in Melbourne. Head back to hostel to pick up my luggage, then back to Southern Cross to catch the Skybus. Apart from a 25 minute delay due to paperwork problems, the flight was brilliant, clear skies and completely smooth.
TLDR: Awesome trip to Melbourne, but glad to be home.
I’m sorry I couldn’t come. My anxiety was being a dick all weekend.
Don’t stress about it. I know what it’s like to have anxiety. I appreciated the little chat we had on Friday night though. I’ll be back in Melbourne at some stage, so we’ll hopefully be able to catch up then.
I hope so.
still made a fun evening of it despite our meet falling through – the weather was nice for walking around Southbank and after that I went home to watch my recently acquired BluRay version of Starship Troopers – Verhoeven’s classics tend to get really good HD remasters! (I already had Total Recall and RoboCop)
Glad you had a good day. Melbourne is a really good city for wandering around, there are plenty of places to sit if you get tired and sooooooo many options for eating and drinking. Good choice of movie too, completely different to the book, but very entertaining.
Sorry to not be about. 22 hours travelling got us home around lunchtime Saturday and we went kaboom on the sofa. :/
Yep, 22 hours of travelling does that to a person. Completely understandable.
Suspicions grow over Dentist Girl. But also playing it down at baseless theories and paranoia. Wanted to confer with a friend, but of course this was the one week she didn’t show up 😛
Still, now have @transientmind’s words echoing in my head, about lack of demonstrated interest being mistaken as lack of interest etc.
*crunches popcorn*
Hey! You need to pay for that popcorn, I got a business to run here!
Shane’s partner: What do you do, follow Shane around?
Techie: Lady, he’s putting my kids through college!
Chocolate is just, like, the fucking best.
But… which kind?
*dun dun dun*
All of them.
This is the only answer to this question…
… except for citrus chocolates. That shit is gross.
Depends on the citrus chocolate. I got some that was ginger and lime, and it was awesome.
White chocolate sits on the bottom tier 😛
I used to love white chocolate as a kid. Best chocolate you could get.
Had some white chocolate recently and… blergh 😛
That’s because white chocolate isn’t chocolate. The darker, the better.
Apparently the final episode of Telltale’s Game Of Thrones is out today. Finally!

Hooray, I can start playing! Now I just need to find time between Fallout 4 and Battlefront.. 😛

Quick question. Are badges a good idea?
Really depends on how they’re made.
With a badge making machine?
so metal with a pin, cloth with a pin, multiple pins, what? 😛
Plastic, paper and metal sandwich badge?
Yeah I’d be up for those
I’d need to look into hire cost for making them or getting them made. I just don’t want to be a one trick pony (only bookmarks)
I have a big badge machine here, could knock out few for you to see if you think they are worth doing.
I wanted little badges. Not fond of the big ones (why do you seem to have everything?)
Can’t reply to you for some reason, but the badge machine itself is big, but it makes little badges 🙂
They’re all pretty good. The Noise Tanks one looks particularly striking.
I feel like the Beat one might be better if you used the color of his shirt instead of the pants for the base color? Beat’s always associated with bright colors for me.
Planning on doing any of the other GGs? Gum would probably be the most popular – over time I feel like she’s become almost as iconic for the series as Beat is, probably because she’s the only one with her own theme song.
I will maybe do gum but I might take a break from JSRF for now.
Re: Beat’s bookmark. I probably chose it because it was the colour I liked the most. I try pretty much every colour and then choose from what my eyes say is best
Fair enough.
Oh, dood. After Persona you should do Final Fantasy 8! (A man can dream)
I haven’t played it so I’m not sure if I’d capture the characters
Use a Master Ball :p
Pokeball pins… You are the worst. Giving me ideas
OoooOoooOoohh
Oh my goodness.
Yesterday I was dealing with a customer who wanted to unsubscribe, saying they were paying $15 a month and not getting anything for it. This was confusing from the get-go, since that’s not our monthly rate, but then the guy wasn’t showing up in our databases at all, so I was asking him for more information.
Found a response just now, where he’s added the line from the credit card statement. How do I put it lightly that the part that says “lumosity.com” means it has nothing to do with us at all…
Dear dumbass.
We are not lumosity. If you feel this response is in error, please visit our website at *****, WHICH YOU WILL NOTE IS NOT LUMOSITY.
Sincerely,

Playing Starcraft with Blaghs sure was something.
It’s been a long, long time but the changes to initial workers means that I had to pay a lot of attention just to get my initial pylon down at the right time. I kept thinking it was due later.
When I finally got the timing right, I missed my cybernetics core. Huzzah!
Build or-wah?
All of my Wings of Liberty era build orders are worthless now. What am I supposed to do if I can’t do a cheeky pylon 4-gate?
1 Gate expand into 6 Gate + Robo… nevermind.
The one thing that annoys me about the co-op missions is the random assortment of units you get. I don’t think I had access to Colossus, so I just stuck on Gateway units for the first few games (and then went almost exclusively Phoenixes for the last because we’d already done that mission, so I wanted to do something derpy).
Is SC2 Co-op?!?……
It has a mode called Allied Commanders where you’re dropped on a map and you have some sort of objective, but you also choose a hero, which will change what units and abilities and stuff you can use.
Our first game we had to go across the map destroying crystals or something in a time limit, the second was essentially the train mission from WoL, and the third we had to stop shuttles from going through portals.
OMG I want in! =O Find me a buddy!
I’m keen for some co-op. Add me on superhiero#6656 =)
It’s more dynamic scenario co-op, where you get thrown onto a map together and you get certain tasks to do to defeat the AI. The campaign is still single player I think
It’s more that they’ve taken missions from the campaign and set it up for two players to do it instead of one. It’s separate from the campaign.
Ah cool, apologies I was working based off the TB&Jesse sponsored youtube videos on it.
Being invited to the beta made me realise how privileged I was, being able to relearn the game’s economy changes months before most people would be able to. I like how fast the game starts now, once I got used to it, while I feel I still have time to react to what my opponent is doing and do a variety of opening builds. At the same time, I’m still experimenting with different timings and having a blast with that =)
Add me on superhiero#6656 if you ever wanna co-op or archon or just have a good old fashioned skirmish!
So…. This stuff in France had me realizing I don’t know half as much about this organization as I should know given how much of an impact they’re having on an international scale. So I start reading up and now I’m more pissed off at the world than ever. Great. Moments like these I appreciate the mentality of the Comedian in the Watchmen.
Gods I hope not. The Comedian (like everyone in Watchmen) was a horrible person. Which is in fact the point of the book.
It’s just a big joke though isn’t it? How Assad’s pretty much cultivated the organization and makes token efforts to push them back and the world’s military leaders do nothing to question the obvious collusion by convenience?
I dunno, I thought there was a certain irony in the way he comes across as a complete arsehat but once you know the full story, he’s still a complete arsehar, but he’s no longer the worst of the bunch.
There’s a lot more to it than what you say, but I know you know that but I had to comment because INTERNET
If we’re talking about the comedian I have to agree; there was a lot more going on with him than just being an asshole for the lols. It’s like he appreciated everything was just a big joke once you stepped back far enough. And once he figured that out he wanted in on the joke.
It’s a dense work. Lots more going on than it seems at first.
It’s a Damn shame US comics grabbed onto the grit & violence but discarded the brains.
I e of the reasons I enjoyed it so .ugh, was that by the end, ceach character was so well thought that I could put myself in any of their shoes.
I suffered from depression on leaving high school & one of the ways I keep it at bay is to keep my head deeply buried I fiction & ignore the finer details of the horrible thi vs that happen.
What happened in France has just made me numb to humanity.
It seems appealing because he’s offering half an easy answer to a very hard and complex problem. It’s like when you see someone just ramming a couch into a doorway. They want brute force to work even though it won’t. It’s a trend that makes people easy to exploit. A politician stands up and boldly declares they’re going to be tough on terrorism, and even though it’s nothing but hot air and token military action it gets them all the support they want.
It’s also the blatant oversimplification of an underlying societal/political issue. No one asks why youth are being drawn to this organization. What causes people to risk their lives over an ideal that is inherently cruel and exclusive in nature. Politicians jump at the mic to treat the symptoms but as a society we have failed to treat the disease.
@powalen i think they still hold up well as you don’t need amazing graphics for these games. Also, if you are interested in the first Project Zero, play the xbox one. It came out later and had less bugs. If the graphics do concern you, watch the opening for the first and second games. (the third doesn’t have one from memory, but I could be wrong and 4 is emulator only)
Cool. I might look into them next year when all these game releases start dying down a bit.
If you’re going to revisit any game from the Project Zero / Fatal Frame series, it should be Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly. Xbox version is the best one. The Wii remake wasn’t very well received I think.
It’s a freaky as fuck game. I haven’t played V yet to see how it compares (my copy is in a shipping container right now with my Wii U) but II has incredible atmosphere and the plot is a classic. You play the entire time as the one character, a teenage girl who’s searching for her twin sister after the two get trapped in a haunted village. I never finished it. Too fucking scary. There’s something distinctly scarier about playing as a frightened kid rather than an adult even though mechanically it’s the same. It’s rad though.
Sounds cool. I’ll probably have to get the Wii version though if I want to play it.
I liked some of the stuff they did for the remake. But yeah, I own them all and I’m happy to lend them out. 3 should be played after 1 and 2 but other then that, order doesn’t matter.
Don’t have an Xbox 360? The Xbox release was backward compatible and pretty much ran flawlessly on 360.

I’m at 34 hours in Fallout 4 & surprisingly not bored.
I’ve enjoyed Bethesda’s games since oblivion but I usually take a break and come back later.
I dropped more than 70 hours into Skyrim but that was bits & peices here & there over a few years.
Fallout 4 has cracked whatever ‘it’ is that keeps me entertained. Certainly not the greatest game I’ve ever played, but it’s keeping me interested.
I’m now worried about my neighbour and my dog. I got home late last night after taking my dog somewhere. When I opened my car door my dog immediately jumped out and bolted for his cat. Chased it around the house and woke him up. It’s not the first time this has happened, now I’m worried about how he’s going to react to this.
Why was his cat out at night in the first place?
It’s a cat. Most people let their cat use the doggy door to run around the place.
Ah. I never have – kitties tend not to be so good with the whole not-slaughtering-local-wildlife thing.
Yeah, and I want to slap those people upside the head.
They run around killing native wildlife, shit in other people’s yards, get into fights on your roof at 1am and apparently that’s ok cause “it’s a cat”.
And then if they get hurt it’s everyone else fault.
F-you, (not you personally) if I let my dog run loose like that it’d be a whole nother tune and he’d do less damage.
…and responsible people keep them in at night.
Only one of our three goes out at all, and he’s an old old man who is very set in his ways. He has to (HAS TO) go out for his evening Check Of The Perimeter straight after dinner. One lap of the garden, some pointed staring under the gate, and he’s back in 10 minutes, satisfied at a job well done.
Gauging interest for a team of players for Vermintide? I’ve been itching for some co-op multiplayer and this game requires sufficient co-ordination at later levels and difficulties it’s almost akin to raiding. Was thinking about running a group for 1-2 hours over the weekend? Hit some loot; talk some trash; kill some stuff!
Let me know if peeps are interested and we can look at suitable times?
If I didn’t have Fallout and Battlefront taking up my gaming time I’d be a definite yes 😛
……… *goes back to playing fallout*
I really need to upgrade my storage in my computer (games being as big as they are lately) and once again I’m staring down a nice big SSD…but it’s still really hard to justify $500ish for a 1TB SSD compared to a 3TB HDD for literally half that. Even with the performance difference it just doesn’t seem worth getting a large SSD yet (at least, not for my bank account).
While I’m here I should consider getting a closed loop CPU water cooler and maybe a new graphics card and-…oh look, down the rabbit hole I go again.
Tell me about your rabbit hole research so I don’t need to think for myself.
What sort of cooler is good for a Gen 6 i5?
mate we live in australia they arent called coolers, they are called ESKIES
Mate!

http://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/1212/noctua_nhd14_014.jpg
EDIT: I feel the need to clarify that this is a joke. I mean, it’s a great cooler but honestly unless your house is hot as balls in summer you’re going to be fine with a stock cooler.
Gen 6 doesn’t come with a stock fan, thus why uggghhh effort and stuff to have to actually research one.
Well, if I convince myself to upgrade to water cooling my my CPU you can have my NH-D14 😛
I was going to say “Anything by Noctua”, personally. Only reason I got a Thermaltake Jing was because my local shop didn’t have the NH-U12P and I wanted something that day.
Their stuff is great, which is why when I had the chacne to get a NH-D14 for $49 I went for it.
Turns out it fit in my case with roughly an inch to spare…lucky, that 😛
Noc- tua…
OK, two immediate simultaneous recommendations for this brand certainly helps steer me in the right direction.
Something to watch out for – some of their coolers are massive. I almost got one but the guys at the store thankfully informed me that it wouldn’t actually fit in the case I bought.
I got a Coolermaster Hyper 212+, it’s great for a low-cost cooler.
Very this. They can be gigantic, but that’s what they’re designed to be.
@beavwa – As long as you’ve got room in your case you’ll love their stuff.
Yeah, that screenshot was posted above to show off that exact fact 😀
For my last build I did a whole lot of research around using a closed liquid cooling loop and it turned out at the time that it was more expensive and noisier than a good air cooler, for marginally worse cooling performance. The best bang for buck was a Noctua NH-U14S. They’re very good coolers.
However be very careful. It’s fucking huge and getting all the fans attached was a bit tricky as my motherboard had some high heat sinks and capacitors which got in the way, had to move the fan mounting on one side upward a little. Still works though.
I was considering getting a closed-loop cooler when I built my current system… but people much more knowledgeable on the topic told me that a good air cooler is still more efficient than a closed loop, and if you’re going to go with liquid cooling you may as well build a loop around your whole pc.
Yeah, but for a house where keeping ambient temperature down is a struggle (like mine) even a closed loop on the CPU can make a substantial difference to overall system temperature.
If I did have the money spare I would get a total system setup, or at least cover the graphics card too…but there’s a pretty big gap between the two choices 😛
@tech_knight @coldcamv @tigerion if you want to bowl at my birthday instead of laser tag, the option is there, just let me know.
Tigs, is Mrs Tigs coming? Is she okay to have cake?
I’d have to think about it cuz I’d be up for either bowling or lasertag, thanks for the heads up
I never get invited to hang out with the cool kids! D=
I asked a while back but if you want in, it Saturday the 5th December at 1pm, Location is Strike bowling at Highpoint.
Is this a place in Sydney…..? =O
Pretty sure Highpoint is a Melbourne thing? It sounds a bit more wanky than Centrepoint or Lowpoint, so I’m just assuming here
It’s in Melbourne. Sorry, forgot the state.
FINE SCREE! BE THAT WAY! *runs away crying*
Sorry D=
Do do do, it’s not yet 2… *twiddles thumbs*
3DS!!! I have one now. It is blue. It is XL. It came with an Adventure Time game. I have registered it with a Nintendo ID thingummy, that is the same as my name here.
SO…
Pokemon – where to start on 3DS? X/Y, or Ruby/Sapphire? So confused.
Meanwhile, I am looking at this article here, and liking the idea of playing some adventure games (I finally got round to Broken Age on the Vita while I was travelling)…
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2014/05/the-12-best-games-on-the-3ds/
XY is 33 smackeroos at target right now so for the price it’s not a bad entry point.
Usual suggestion for Pokemon newcomers is just get the latest game, which would be OR/AS (but it really doesn’t matter. Just go for whichever you like the look of)
X/Y has Hawlucha, so there’s that.
And that’s a pretty solid list to go by. Link Between Worlds is awesome. Luigi too.
I had a week away from the internets (in theory – no Optus coverage) and my regular gaming devices, so I took my 3DS. I had planned to finish Link’s Cricket Adventure and maybe start playing Dragon Quest IX… discovered there was Telstra coverage up there, so spent more time stealing my family’s wireless to play Hearthstone. My poor 3DS can’t catch a break…
Have you played the new adventure? It’s pretty great. I was vehemently free-to-play only, but then got drunk and bought it (and Naxx)…. I’m a terrible person.
I started it last night, in a fit of curiosity. Beat the first two bosses – some really cool mechanics, some pretty clever writing, and generally a lot of fun (even when I was losing :P). Really looking forward to what the next wings bring. I only play the adventures, tho, and the only packs I’ve bought have been with the 300 gold I got from some “play X games” achievement while I was on holiday the week before last 😛 Still haven’t beaten the last boss in Blackrock – not sure I’ve got the cards to be able to do it with any degree of reliability.
Eh, Ace Attorney is an okay adventure game series but I feel like you’d want to have played all the DS ones before the 3DS one. The platform’s not rife with adventure games really.
Do you like oldschool wizardy-style Dungeon Crawlers? Because 3DS has Etrian Odyssey IV as well as the Untold remakes of I & II which are all excellent like that. Massive time sinks but worth it. There’s also Persona Q as well, which is a Persona 3/4 and Etrian Odyssey mashup (Etrian Odyssey is ‘Seijaku no Meikyuu’ in Japanese, stylized ‘MeiQ’, thus Persona + MeiQ = PersonaQ)
Fire Emblem’s probably the best game on the platform. Upcoming semi-sequel Fire Emblem Fates is looking to be really good as well, though I’ve noticed the buzz out of Japan around it wasn’t quite as loud as it was for Awakening.
Bravely Default’s great if you were ever into SNES or PS1-era FF games, but it kind of loses steam in the back half. Beautiful game though.
Speaking of FF, if you like that series, you need Theatrhythm Curtain Call. Don’t bother with the original.
Luigi’s Mansion is fun for a while but I found it gets repetitive and kind of hard, plus it has very oldschool punitive mechanics, i.e. no checkpointing, you die you start the level from scratch.
2PM is a good time to remember that I got 4 hours sleep last night because I am an idiot.
*headdesk*
zzzzz…
But it’s not 2PM yet.
*jumps out window*
I woke up this morning after like six and a half hours of sleep, ten minutes before my alarm went off.
I also want to sleep at work, but that’s because I’m a garbage employee, not tiredness related.
If you’re a garbage employee it wouldn’t be a good idea to fall asleep at work.
You might crash your truck.
@redartifice
Quick question – Tokens – Are these something you’re meant to print yourself, do they come in packs, or is ebay generally the best place to get them?
The ones on ebay – I’ve noticed some variances in artwork – is this because people are making them themselves, or are they official and just from different sets?
General response: Tokens can be anything you want them to be as long as everybody knows what they are representing. Which is why people make / print their own. Especially in a deck that has lots of different token elements, it’s easy to identify and play with them.
Some tokens were officially printed and available in promo stuff, you can find them at some card shops, but not every available token type has an official card.
Boy I hope you’re asking about MTG.
Turns out he’s talking about people.
I love DIY people
Yeah, they’re…yeah…*stares into space*
I’d be careful about buying tokens, but.
Why careful?
Are they actually made of people?
I’m trying to make an inappropriate joke about buying minorities.
It’s not going well.
Thanks buddy! Really appreciate it!
Yep – talking about Magic.
Played for the first time at PAX and really starting to get into it now as a fun little game.
Played against my brother-in-law the weekend before last and he spawned 2 5/5 demons in the space of a couple of turns – we used forks to represent them haha.
So basically, the ones on ebays are likely to be DIY ones that people have printed? I can deal with that… I’d prefer to have something that is easily identifyable (and tappable)
It’s been nice knowing you. 😛
Edit: And yeah, some of those on eBay might be DIY ones, you may as well just do them yourself. Get some card sleeves and take a land or common you’re not using as the “back” and then slip in a printout that you made yourself. Boom. Easy.
You can even do your entire deck that way so you’re not playing with valuable cards. As long as you’ve got the originals on hand for verification.
Cheers – really helpful.
And it’s ok – it won’t be that bad – big red has given me some tips to ensure it doesn’t become a money sink (not that i can afford it to, anyway).
I’m more worried about conques or x-wingt eating all my money.
There are tokens printed in packs, but you certainly don’t need any official tokens. Print them, use dice, write them on a bit of paper. I wouldn’t spend a cent on them.
Over time you’ll accumulate anyway.
Thanks mate
Was trying to find a picture, but a mate of mine even had business cards printed with a blank token frame on the back. He now has a whole bunch in his token box which I’ve hand doodled.
A whole heap of them are 0/1 plant tokens, so he has lots of hand sketched pot plants.
http://i.imgur.com/ZcdxROc.gif
HA! Hand.
If you’re not playing any morph/manifest then a facedown card is pretty useful. Empty sleeves were my go to choice for tokens when I played.
Forks seem perfectly acceptable though.
They worked wonders because he quickly slaughtered me.
And if i happened to pull a miraculous victory he could have just jammed them in my eyes.
Really it was a win/win for him the whole time
So you’re saying you got forked?
I got forked royally
Back when I played I had a bunch of different colored round glass stones that I’d use for different things. The kind you can buy for a few dollars at bunnings or similar that are used to line a vase or something. Also different colored multi-sided dice are useful for counters.
For creatures what I would do usually would be to grab cards from outside my deck (my deck would be sleeved and they’d be unsleeved to avoid any weirdness, but I’d also usually use something that clearly didn’t belong, like a swamp when playing blue/white) and place it face-down so the back of the card was upright, then put a colored token on it. Without that, if you’ve summoned a creature token then it wasn’t obvious whether it was tapped or not and stuff and that could be quite important.
BirthTAY drinks – I’ll be in the Mitre Tavern on Friday night to celebrate my b’day (from around 6pm). Melbourne TAYbies, especially those I met at PAX, welcome to stop in if convenient. Usual spot is at the back of the alley/beer garden. The front part of the pub is very very busy if the weather’s good, so the trick is duck in through the front door on Bank Place, head through to the back bar by going straight through the arch under the stairs, and then pop out of the back door by the back bar. 🙂
@beavwa @budgieishere @chuloopa @coldcamv @crazyguy1990 @f4ction @greenius @jordi @mad_danny @negativezero @pixel_the_ferret_viking @scree @smurfydog @tech_knight @tigerion @tofu @zetrox2k
I know at least one of you has trouble with fridays, so look forward to catching up another time if you can’t make it. 🙂
Otherwise, I will attempt to make a Meat soon…
I’ve had lunch at the Mitre Tavern before, it’s a bit of a walk from where I work now but it’s certainly far from impossible to at least attend for a bit 🙂
Free Tram Zone FTW, and close to 4 stations, giving all the choice for getting home. 🙂
it’s only Flinders Street for the most convenience with me, so not a worry 🙂
Oh! Got plans this Friday already, sorry!
Have a good time though 😀
I should be able to show up for a bit
I should be easy to spot – I shall be wearing a Hitchhikers T-shirt…
Might be a bit of a long swim for me to get there sorry.
Hmmm… I’ll see if I can drop in for a bit.
Hmmm I already had a night out this week, will see if I can swing another night off. Should be able to drop in for a drink, not sure how long I’ll be able to stay
Sorry, I’m going to need to bail this afternoon. Have fun.
I took out an entire team in splatoon. That’s a first

My brother is asking me to borrow money again because he had to pay Melbourne International Comedy Festival rego.
You lot better go see him at the MICF is all I’m saying.
If you pay for my airfare to melbs, sure!
He has done Sydney shows, it’s just been part of a kid’s show. But if you’ve got a nephew or niece that likes gross stuff…
I think I might have to be the guy who has kids in my family. now to find a surrogate!
3 pages on a Monday, not even one on Tuesday.
Tay, I am disappoint.
Sorry. =(
Eugh, I’m all hayfevery right now. 🙁
Yuuuuup. been sneezing for days
When I found out Dogmeat can wear goggles, I couldn’t help myself xD
http://i.imgur.com/1zLm4UA.jpg
That’s pretty great.
I have news for you
http://shop.doggles.com/dog/eyewear
Haha, holy shit that is awesome! I bet Chilli wouldn’t wear them though, the drama queen she is 😛
It’s designed to be sunglasses and goggles. So it prevents them from hurting their eyes when hanging their head out the car and stuff.
Finally got around to seeing The Martian this afternoon. OH MAN SO GOOD.
Also these space movies have been doing a number on me lately. After Interstellar, all I wanted to do was go home and fly among the stars in Elite. Now we’ve had The Martian, and just around the corner the beta for Elite’s planetary landings expansion is gonna open up, something like next week or the week after.
MY HYPE IS THROUGH THE ROOF! Gimme dat buggy.
Only thing I really had issue with was that they never once talked about radiation. One of Mars’ big issues is that it doesn’t have a strong magnetic field, which means he should have been exposed to dangerous solar radiation on the surface. It’s one of the reasons Mars doesn’t have much atmosphere – been basically scoured away by solar wind.
Really loved that film though. I’m holding out hope that one day the tide will turn back again and there will be enough interest in space travel that they can justify giving NASA a proper budget again.
He was never exposed to it thought, right? I mean, it’s not like he was running around on the surface without a suit on, he’s always either in a suit (which presumably has radiation shielding) or indoors (which definitely has radiation shielding). I mean, I’m no scientist.. or smart… or even remotely intelligent… but seems legit? He spent time indoors with the side of the building only protected by a thin layer of plastic attached with tape.Hang on… I’m assuming it works like sunlight, so as long as you aren’t directly exposed to it then you should be fine? Or is the whole surface of Mars radioactive? The vast majority of the radiation that an astronaut will be exposed to is cosmic radiation from deep space, and solar radiation. Both contain high-energy particles that can cause damage at an atomic level to anything they pass through.
Our atmosphere and magnetosphere protect us from the worst of it, but it still effects us. Spend too much time in the sun with the wrong genetics and you will die early from Melanoma. There is no atmosphere in mars, and no magnetosphere. Any small exposure to the background radiation would kill you, and cancers would be rampant in any population that managed to live there.

Recent Catalyst episode discussing NASA and MarsOne projects: http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/4335044.htm
The crew in the ship would probably have had mad radiation issues too. They basically doubled their space time, and their return to Mars likely took them inside Venus’s orbit and there’s no way their ship would have protected them from everything. Also, it didn’t really touch on how low Mars’s gravity is. Though that’s me nitpicking. Not nitpicking. Radiation exposure in deep space is a real problem.@fled @grandmasterb-funk @liondrive @phlanispo @phoenix @platinum-urchin @thecracks
Perthians, assemble! I am planning a new and improved Adventure World meat! My initial plans a month ago fell through because everyone was busy with uni, and apparently two weeks isn’t enough notice.
My new plans are to have a meat on the weekend of 4th/6th December. This will either be on a Saturday or Sunday, and will change based on what is best for everyone. I specifically chose this date because I know everyone will be on their uni break by then. I hope 18 days is enough notice, but you never know.
Adventure World has a thing going one where you can get ~$40 tickets if you pre-purchase them. So if you plan to come, pre-purchase and save some money.
Hey wish i could go but i will have work both those day or be busy with the daughters T-Ball game on Saturday and work sunday. Once again i am sorry but i will have to give it a miss.
Anyone still playing Game of Thrones (Telltale)? The final chapter dropped today.
Spoilers:
ARRRRRGH, I’m pretty sure I got the worst possible ending. Yay me!I lost the war, got Mira dismissed and killed, left Gared with half an army to defend the North Grove, and although I managed to save Ryon, that decision seems to have gotten EVERYONE ELSE dead.I’m terrible at the Game of Thrones. The special stats at the end were BOSS, though. Loved that presentation.Think I stopped playing after I finished episode 3. Will be finishing it off today.
Oh man. Chanced upon someone’s stream who I recognised from playing Elite’s CQC the other night, found I’d ended up on the recording they’d made when testing out the new ships in the beta. Now caught up watching all the matches from the opposite point of view, which is pretty great.
Particularly the part where they get pissed off at me and start cursing my name 😛
Hahaha! That’s so cool!
There were some pretty choice lines in there. Got “he is just picking up bullshit!” a few times, since I often use items to facilitate my escape. “He is trying to be clever”, as I try and evade her by flying into a tunnel. “And failing” as she followed me in there. Then literally the next moment I’ve flown past her and she’s lost me 😛 Mostly because I fluffed the entrance and crashed into the tunnel, giving myself an unintended-but-totally-helpful u-turn >.>
We got caught in a lot of jousting matches, which usually ended in ramming. But one time she was hiding in a tunnel trying to recharge shields, and I boosted in and got the ram on my way through. “How did he even see me??” I ended up turned around because of it, while she was stuck in a spin, so I was open to finish her off.
I truly knew I’d made it though in one match where she told the rest of her team to stick together, don’t stray apart, and the moment they see me, focus attacks on me. Awwyeah 😛
Ugh, I’m very familiar with cursing your name…
Don’t be afraid 😛
OH MY GOD THERE’S A NEW VALKYRIA CHRONICLES GAME?! \o/
… it’s called Valkyria of the Azure Revolution (direct translation) rather than Valkyria of the Battlefield… \o/
… they’ve ditched the watercolor style. /o\ But now they’ve gone for a really bold, vibrant style that’s meant to look like an oil painting. \o/
… it’s a completely new world, not the one from the previous games so they can start fresh \o/
… That whole dieselpunky WW2 style is gone, it’s a fantasy game now. People still have guns though. Also some people can turn into tanks. Wait, what? /o\
… it’s now an RPG. /o\
… it’s an action RPG. /o\
… it’s realtime, not turn-based or anything. /o\
… you only control one character and the rest are AI /o\
I don’t know how to feel about this game 🙁 It sounds really good and I’m up for anything Valkyria… but this isn’t what I wanted from a new Valkyria Chronicles game. The hybrid RPG/RTS battle system in that was the best part. Sounds like it should be its own franchise and not have the Valkyria name attached which is clearly only there for marketing purposes.
Fucking Sega being druids again. Maintaining the balance by making sure every good thing they do is balanced with something shit. 🙁
Oh yeah, they’re porting VC to PS4 as well so if you didn’t play it on PS3 and didn’t pick up the excellent Steam release you’ve got even less excuse.
P.S. HEY SEGA WE STILL DON’T HAVE VALKYRIA CHRONICLES 3 IN ENGLISH HINT HINT.
From what I read they said they’re splitting VC into two types, and they still intend to make more traditional ones , so at least we can look forward to that in 2033 when they get around to it. As a mobile title.
I haven’t read anything to that effect anywhere. They’re porting the original game to PS4 as well, maybe that’s what was meant?
According to RPGsite (http://www.rpgsite.net/news/4621-new-valkyria-chronicles-announced-for-playstation-4)
Edit: No idea about the reliability here, but I’ll take whatever hope I can get.
So that’s not quite the same thing.
The VC games so far were ‘Valkyrie of the Battlefield” (Senjo no Valkyria). This one is “Valkyrie of the Revolution” (Kakumei no Valkyria). It’s different so they’ve ‘split’ the Valkyria franchise by using different naming conventions.
RPGSite’s the only place I’ve seen anything suggesting the ‘classic’ side is going to be continued. I suspect that the PS4 port of VC is their idea of continuing to support it. Happy to have Sega prove me wrong though!
Oh before anyone accuses me of hating on Valkyria: it’s one of my favourite games ever and it was one of the core reasons I bought a PS3 originally – took one look at a video of the opening video and knew I had to own it.
I’d prefer a party based turn-based deal, but otherwise I’m keen for everything else.
I’m terrible at strategy these days.
Bought myself a set of these yesterday. can”t wait till they get here.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181929910284
He seems to be putting the price up almost every time someone buys one though.
damn, i need a pair of these for when the movie comes out!!!
So now i’ve got my internet running smoothly, i’ve finally had the stupid authenticator removed from my blizzard account so i could access it again.
Installed SC2 (which didn’t work prior to my upgrade to windows 10 but now does), hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm.. it appears I have a lot of catching up to do.
Also picking up a new card game this week – kittens in a blender… Can. Not. Wait.
the name alone is amazing.
Did it come out before or after Exploding Kittens? Because if it’s after, sounds like they’re just trying to ride the hype train.
How long have you been out of Hearthstone for? The new expansion is boss, the discover mechanic is amazing, and we’re suddenly back in a control meta (thank god) thanks to one of the new legendaries
Came out well before Exploding Kittens.
It’s also not that good.Oh mannn – seriously?!?!
I was sooo looking forward to it… now i’m not too sure anymore 🙁
It’s a little “take that” card game. Bit too simple for my taste, but probably OK with mates and beer. Throw cards in the box, move others around, do it fast and loose and it’ll be fine
My views may be tempered because I played it with someone who sat there with AP over his fucking cards for waaaaaaaay too long. JUST THROW A KITTEN IN THE FUCKING BLENDER FFS
I’ve been out for quite a while – at least 6 months i’d say
Woo, first payslip!
Double woo, getting paid more than last time!
\o/ taco’s shout at the pub! \o/
Too late, spent it all on games >.>
@mrtaco You should start one of those food trucks and call it Taco’s Tacos.
Or I could start a truck repair company and call it Taco’s Tachos.
You could tow the trucks too and call it Taco’s Car Tows.
I could expand into road repairs too, with Taco’s Tar Co.
Lucky you. I was told i’d be paid this morning, I haven’t been D= and I can’t even find payslips on this new site that Woolworths use for all this crap. Such a bad system Q_Q
My favourite part is how I actually have less work to do than before too.
Everything’s coming up Thrillho 😛
Aww yee, that’s the best part! Same here actually. The job is literally the same as Dan Murphy’s just, like 90% less busy a win-win in my opinion 😛
Who holds the job seeking club presidency now?
I can’t remember, who else was in there? I mean it would’ve been Virus I guess but then he went and did his thing.
I’m sure I’ll reclaim the title before long 😛
Danny Clarke? Mish Mash?
Who’s this guys?
Morning peeps! Question time, anyone had any experience with Elgato game capture device? (preferably the HD60 Pro)
Got one coming today and im curious about recording party chat… i figured i could output chat audio to speaker interface meaning party chat will be captured through the HDMI interface, but that wouldnt capture my mic audio… would it be that difficult to sync if i setup a seperate mic through the pc and get the capture software to also capture my line in?
A mate of mine has the Elgato game capture HD (as well as the Avermedia Live Gamer Portable which is what I have) and we spent months working on audio problems so we could record clean gameplay audio and clean chat audio. We were going for more of an edited experience so the following might not be that relevant if you’re not wanting to edit much.
The ultimate solution we hit upon for small scale coop gaming was using skype for chat and buying a desktop mixer like the Behringer Xenyx 502 and feeding the audio from the 2 sources into that for output to headphones. Depending on the system you’re using and who you’re playing with, skype might not be a viable option. I seem to recall that the PS4 party chat can be set to go to headphones only and I imagine the same can be done with the XBox One (it worked with the 360 so I doubt they’d dump it), you could get a headset adapter such as this one, add a y splitter to both the mic and headphone jacks and run cables to a PC to record both sides of the conversation with something like mixpad. I prefer mixpad since its free and can record separate tracks from multiple inputs so you get both incoming and outgoing audio recorded cleanly and separately. In order to synch it with the vision, I ended up realising we could just open the menu, scroll through the entries and call out the option that we’re highlighting (eg; saying “Save, map, online” etc just as we highlighted them), that gave a nice and clear way to synch the game video and the chat audio, since both the incoming and outgoing chat were recorded simultaneously they were the exactly same length so when you got one synched the other was at most only a few ms out.
I’m pretty sure that the elgato software has the option to record commentary as either a separate MP3 or as part of the video so if you’re just after something simple like taping PS4 games with randoms and not having any editing, you should be able to use that headset adapter and one y splitter to run the mic audio into both the console and the elgato itself, leave the party chat to output to speakers, you’ll get that through the phones and your mic will go to 2 places, one for transmission & the other for recording.
It’s also possible that being a newer device, the new Elgato might just have something like the adapter cable with it specifically for recording and chat
CAN’T…. STOP…. CHECKING… TRACKING… ON BATTLEFRONT ORDER…….. HNNNNNGGGHHH!!!!
I read that in Skinner’s voice.
Also, the sentence ended in “doing the monkey”.
Although it was Krabappel who said it.
…How is my brain lying to me so convincingly?
Maybe this is another of those Berenstein Bears things.
Upvote for the correct spelling.
Skinner also said the teachers will crack any minute purple monkey dishwasher.
@powalen
How did you feel about Ren’s eighth drop chapter?
I like the break in the monotony, but man, was Fuyuhi a pain in the butt to fight in Yuri’s tiny, tiny room.I liked it! Though I wish it was scarier than it ended up being 😛 Thought there was going to be some really tense bits with having to keep an eye on the surveillance while taking time to clear ghosst but oh well (like seeing a ghost behind you on the surveillance and then have it grab you or something before you can react)By the way, did you fight the Tall Woman a couple of chapters ago? She was the scariest ghost so far 😛
Yes, she was such a massive pain in the arse too.Dropped my youngest off to a Prep orientation day. She gets to her new classroom and sits down with a bunch of other kids playing with playdoh. Of course, Lilah being Lilah she doesn’t start making flowers or hearts like the other girls. Nooooo, she has to start making people then using scissors to cut off the limbs and head while giggling to herself. Way to make a first impression.
Father’s daughter then.
Oh man, we have one of those soon D:
I took my 2.5 year old in, and she pointed to a baby that was on the floor being changed, and said “I don’t like those”
“Don’t like what, babies?”
“Nope”
“Why not”
“Because they might eat me”
“I won’t let it eat you”
“We should eat it first”
Cue the carers all giving us a worried, worried look.
Suffering Melbourne withdrawal symptoms at the moment. So dang bored, and I feel like I have nothing to do. I’ve tried playing games but they’re not doing anything for me at the moment, and there’s nothing worth watching on tv. Blergh.
Sorry
What about ball in a cup?
I think you need a hobby, a subject of interest that can absorb your interest for hours, and not just one hobby, you need a few, for instance, I love my electronics stuff i do at home but i can get annoyed with it if i have had a particularly stressful day at work, so i listen to new albums and i have a notepad where i rate the songs and make playlists, if i dont feel up to doing that i have a pile of books on my kindle and if thats too much brainwork i just go to crunchyroll and whip out the list @negativezero makes about whats worth watching and make my way through that. I find alot of joy in all those things.
Have you considered studying online? Doesnt have to be a actual course or anything sometimes just reading some non fiction about history or technology really makes me happy. Maybe that could inspire you to find a new passion?
Speaking of that, right now I have to use the cable internets provided to me in my temp place which means I’m not really comfortable Sailing the Seven Seas (if you know what I mean) so I have to stream my anime legit.
Which sucks dicks.
You guys don’t realize how good you have it with AnimeLab. About 80% of the stuff this season is on there.
Here in the US, Crunchyroll has about 5 or 6 of the shows I was regularly watching. I had to subscribe to Funimation’s streaming bullshit to get at another three or so, and then I have to go to Daisuki to get One Punch Man. CR is great but the other two are shit. 🙁 And even then, there’s a couple shows that were fansub-only that I’ve had to drop.
As a result I’ve hardly watched anything the last couple weeks 🙁
This sounds completely absurd and counter intuitive… Can you VPN back to Australia (see… absurd) to get AnimeLab’s streams?
cant you aus vpn animelab?
When in Australia, spend all my time finding VPN services to get me to the US.
Once in the US, spend all my time finding VPN services to get me back to Australia.
Kind of funny really.
A lot of the issue is that I don’t have my PS4 so I have to use those services’ woefully bad web interfaces.
I’m still looking at doing a barista course, particularly now I have a proper coffee machine. Hoping I can learn skills for a job, rather than just a hobby. I think my main problem yesterday was coming down from the high of the trip and returning to real life.
I keep questing in Fallout 4. Some of these Railroad ones are pretty cool.
Man, I love the music in that base!
I need to do more railroad stuff, there’s some stupidly overpowered gear you can access through their plotline. >.>
Been reading guides, HUH?
I’ve been playing blind, nice suprise when you do find something cool.
I watched a vid on raising happiness in a settlement though. If (& this is a big if) I get every other trophy (seems to be a missable bobble head & a story split?) then I’ll try to make a happy village.
Atm I’ve done very minor building & modding, because I wanted the perks that made shootin easier.
I’m doing the whole thing blind, but it’d be nice to finish that bobblehead collection at some point. I hope there aren’t any that can get locked off.
I saw a vague comment saying there was one missable in
The Asylum, never been to or heard of the place. My collection stands at a lofty total of 1 thus far, could be a while before I get to that one.
Still, first thing I needed to build was the stand. That was the central pride and joy (alongside the nuka cola fridge) in my fallout 3 house.
I haven’t built anything that wasn’t quest related & I let settlements get invaded because screw those guys.
I think I have 3 Bobble Heads, 2 stats & a perk. Or was it one star & two perks? I dunno.
I don’t think any are locked off, but I only had a quick glance. I do like that there’s a logic behind placement of a lot of the magazines and stuff (I’ve found 3 sneaking ones in army bases), so if I was talking notes I’d probably be able to get a lot sans guide.
Not a guide, just a post on the Fallout 4 reddit. Was looking for information on either how to make a settlement that doesn’t suck, or how to mod the radio.
I’ve found each group seems to hand you some nice stuff as well as perks (not perk perks but like perks like irl like perks like)
It took me absolutely forever to find a decent guide the explained how settlements work and how best to wire electricity into houses without spending a fortune on switches! I now have one fully-lit home out of 3 in sanctuary =D
Hmmm… This I want to be able to do.
From what I’ve seen the cheapest way to light up houses internally is to use what the game calls “connectors”. You can put them on the side of a wall and it provides electricity for a good chunk of that wall (about 3x the range of switches). For example taking your home in Sanctuary to give power to one wall would take 2 connectors maybe 3 depending on how you spaced them.
So I put connectors across the whole house on the outside and connect them up with wires from a nearby generator. Once done I can place fans/lights/tvs etc internally and they all use just 1 power and I have a fully lit house =]. P.S. Poles are a complete waste of copper; it’s cheaper to just build another small generator to connect houses and if you want to connect it to a beacon or turret its still cheaper to create a generator near where you want the turrets and then wire them from the generator directly.
That setup is…vaguely explained later on in the game. Further down the line than it should be, though.
I’m the exact opposite! I keep making my way to a quest and get side-tracked by the first point of interest I run into along the way! Bright side it means I’m clearing quest dungeons before I get the quest but downside it means I’m clearing quest dungeons before I get the quest!! =@
Yeah, I did that a bit in Skyrim, so I try to knock over the story stuff first. The world’s big enough that even when I follow markers I still feel like I’m exploring.
At the gym, got a new pair of earbud headphones to replace my broken ones, and I’m going to have lunch in 90 minutes. 🙂
Did you go for the exercise-specific ones? I bought a pair of bluetooth ones a while back that were hella uncomfortable, and I’m always tempted to get the sweatproof ones but can’t justify it because I’m a lazy piece of shit and don’t exercise enough.
Then again, I lose my headphones all the time, so they generally disappear before sweat is an issue.
They’re just basic in-ear buds that do the job. 🙂
I use my Jaybird Bluebuds for running and they work well. Pricey though!
I bought these for running in a while ago, and they are fantastic. They’re light, they don’t fall off, and I can still hear what’s going on around me when I’m running along the street. Only downside is they don’t have a mic for use with the phone, but I can’t take calls when I’m running anyway!

Knocked RYSE off the steam pile of shame.
Wasn’t great but by no means bad. Enjoyed it.
But from a historical sense talk about butchering history. Nero had no sons, Boudhica never stepped foot in Europe let alone Rome with elephants….
So terrible at teaching history? Damn. I guess I’ll have to stick to the assassin’s creed series for my history education.
I actually learnt quite a lot playing Civ 2. At some point my parents acknowledged that I was going to keep playing video games for a stupid amount of time, so they insisted I had to read all the historical notes whenever you build a new unit/building/wonder/etc.
Someone in my class managed to convince the teacher to let us install Age of Empires 2 on the class PC thanks to its surprisingly in depth notes (and we were studying the middle ages at the time).
I managed to surprise my English teacher in middle school when they asked ‘who knows the word for when you kill a king’ and I knew it was Regicide. Thank you, AoE2!!!
“And so England managed to successfully siege the castle with a large convoy of blue cars that fire an endless supply of bullets”
*teacher gives a “…really…?” kind of look*
Pshhh, we all know you beat castles by firing arrows at them until they set on fire.
(Really though, the best way was to play as the Spanish and use their OP workers to take down buildings)
Where else are you going to learn that Gandhi was a nuke loving warmonger
Our words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!!
Civ is the best way to learn history. Now I know all about the Great Wall of America.
…… I have too many games to play D=
I’ve been juggling Fallout 4, SC2, Vermintide, HotS for the past few days. Goddamit where were all these games a year ago when there was nothing to play!? =P
@techknight on that note up for some HotS tonight?
Splatoon, Smash, and Guitar Hero that I want to keep up with, Xenoblade that I’m trying to get back to, Elite Dangerous that needs more love, then Wooly Yoshi and Kirby Candy Curse that haven’t been touched yet. And considering picking up Project Zero and Rodea Sky Soldier, with Xenoblade X on the horizon.
Then that’s not even going into 3DS where I still haven’t touched Rhythm Thief, Kirby, Codename Steam, Tri Force Heroes or Chibi Robo yet. Or Shovel Knight, though I’m likely to crack that one out tomorrow.
*drowns*
I want to keep going in Guitar Hero but having to choose to either have someone with a shit taste in music pick all the songs I play or get a loud booming voice that says “YOU CAN PLAY THIS SONG BUT YOU ONLY HAVE 15 CHANCES LEFT TO DO THIS”. Unsurprisingly, this ruins it for me.
what do you mean you’re not looking forward to animal crossing amiibo festival
….. Gods I still haven’t finished Fire Emblem Awakening which I bought a few months back… I’m doomed. I’ll never play and finish all the awesome games D=
And bloodborne, the old blood, arkham knight and CoD are also sitting on my pile of shame…. I’m never going to catch upppp!!!! D=
I have way too many games. Then @Scree and I started talking about Hyperule warriors and now I want to play that again. I ALREADY HAVE TOO MANY GAEMS!
Still only playing splatoon and pokemon shuffle with some Project Zero V
YOU’RE OBSESSED. *goes back to playing Fallout 4 non-stop*
IT’S A GOOD GAME!
UGH, SO
FALLOUT 4OBSESSED.LOOK IN THE MIRROR!
BUT THE MIRROR IS TOO FAR AWAY FROM FALLOUT 4
NOW WHO HAS A PROBLEM?!
*Grabs the list*
*cough*
Fallout 4
Need For Speed
Elder Scrolls Online
Dragon Ball Xenoverse
Disgaea 4
Assassins Creed 2
World of Warships
Divinity Original Sin
Project X-zone
Must knock off a chunk of those before Cathryn will let me get Rainbow Six Siege or any other games.
Welp, there go my notifications. Lee Lin Chin retweeted me. 😛
I <3 Lee Lin Chin tweets.
Wait… I can actually do that now.
I had to google who that was, then when i realised who it was I was suitably impressed.
Shun the non-believer!
I SAID I WAS IMPRESSED!
She is all sorts of rad.
I just tend never to care enough about TV personalities to actually bother to remember their names.
Just realised your new profile picture. Damn it, you completely outclass me in sideburn warfare these days. I’m going to have to up the ante.
My old profile picture was years old. Figured I should go with one more current. 🙂
Fallout 4 settlement stuff:
I’ve been trying to figure out how to get more settlers into my towns and ended up looking online last night to find out what I was doing wrong. Turns out the answer was literally nothing…people just weren’t showing up.Cut to an IRL hour later and with no changes one of my sites has gone from 3 people to 11 but no other town has had growth. So, I shipped a bunch of them to other sites…and the same town grew back up to 8 in like 20 minutes.
Screw it, this works.
Don’t you need to build a settlement beacon dealie and activate it?First thing I’ve been doing at each site 😛
What nob’s said I noticed that the beacon would sometimes just stop attracting people so try turning it off and on again. Also your settlements have a population cap which is 10 + your characters Charisma. So if you have 5 Charisma the max number of settlers is 15 per settlement. Companions count towards this cap as well.As a stab in the dark I’ve been power cycling the beacon (can you tell I work in IT?) and hasn’t seemed to have done much.I didn’t know about the CHA max (makes sense though) but mine is at 6 so even my largest place so far is only at 11 including 4 companions. Still room for more!
Also I noticed if I had other beacons closer to the centre of the map my far away beacons like Sanctuary stopped attracting settlers; worth only having one beacon on perhaps?I was curious if beacons had a defined radius from where they can attract settlers (seeing as the actual radio broadcast does) but the one that’s getting tonnes of people is is near the edge of the map and one that’s in the middle (and near a bunch of stuff) has only attracted 1 person.Could definitely be a problem with having multiple beacons on at once. I’ll try turning off a bunch and see if people turn up to the still active ones.
Isn’t it your
charisma plus 10? So you need to max charisma for 20 humans & to up that, wear some charismatic clothes?I’ve been meaning to test out how temporary SPECIAL boosts work in a bunch of ways, and whether that lets you bypass the cap and then go back down is definitely one I’d like to check.Hopefully by the time I get around to this, there’s a comprehensive guide.
I am unreasonably excited for these controller parts I ordered. Have two PS4 controllers in a sorry state and was going to order one of those Darth Vader ones until a random curiosity pushed me to look at repair parts. came across a site (morbidstix.com) and holy crap they have a lot of different parts. Ordered some blue and red metal sticks and buttons. If they turn up in a timely manner and are decent quality I have a plan to go completely nuts and essentially rebuild a completely custom controller. They even will make faceplates to whatever design you want and have triggers, sticks and buttons that have LEDs in them.
Blow all my bonuses!
How did they break?
Kids.
Nasty, I trained my son early in being gentle with tech & the proper way to hold a CD.
He still smudges food grease on everything though.
Huh, as someone who was going to buy a new one, let me know how that goes…
Do you think if you de-soldered the stick assembly from the controller’s motherboard, you could bridge the gaps with wire and have it work the same or would the extra length cause problems? Since my thumbs are screwed up, I’ve been thinking on and off of building a frankenstinian hodgepodge with a PS4 controller and some cheap joystick shafts with the PS4 components embedded inside, making something akin to the original xbox Steel Battalion controller.
Fuck it, if that’s the kind of thing that’s possible, THAT is the major project I need to convince me to save up for a 3d printer!
Don’t see why not. Extra length of the sticks would be easily remidied by adjusting sensitivity in game.
So Jonah Lomu has passed away which has put a damper on my morning.
Details have not be released but the illness that prevented him being seen as one of the worlds greatest ever sportsman could very will have be then cause or an influence.
Think I might be spending my lunch break watching highlight reels
His entire career was a highlight reel. Man was a freaking legend, he will be missed.
Yeah. Such a shame. The kidney disease he had ended up largely costing him his career. Without that he’d have been a mainstay for ages. Always seemed like a really genuine guy in interviews and stuff too.
Still remember the first time he came into prominence. Basically ran directly through Mike Catt in the World Cup semi final against England. The ‘Maori Sidestep’ it was called, though he used to get annoyed at that because he was Tongan. I was twelve at the time and living in New Zealand so he was a household name. Easily the best player there during the tournament and still think that New Zealand was robbed, though looking back now it was vastly more important that South Africa win the cup.
Guys can we get a TAY Paladins crew going?
That’s the Massively Multiplayer Online Yiff right?
Yes, but apparently it’s now a Fallout 4 thing.
Oh well… easy come, easy go.
SURE!
*gets into Brotherhood of Steel Power Armour*
Paladin Blaghs here!
Boy do I hate super mutants. And ghouls. Also synths.
Anyone who doesn’t look like me, or doesn’t have insides like I do. I’m not racist though, it’s for the good of mankind. Definitely not racist/xenophobic/mutanist? Any of that.
White power. White in this case being used to represent purity, not a race thing. Definitely not.
FOLLOW ORDERS! NEVER QUESTION THEM! EVER! BECAUSE WE’RE HELPING MANKIND!
So you will be playing as Ruckus then
… I asked people to play something other than Fallout 4.
I should have known this would happen. I don’t know what I expected.
@mrtaco So I want to see the business card for Taco’s Tacos, Tachos, Car Tows and Tar Co ASAP.
Downloaded the final 2 episodes of Telltale’s Game Of Thrones, started it up and found I had already completed episode 4 instead of 3. Started playing and after a few minutes put it on pause and went back to the internet, Really can’t be arsed with it right now.
I should gt on that, but I own it on PS3 and ewwwwww, old tech…
I’ve set up the PS3 in the bedroom and once I had put it in a different room it started getting a lot more playtime.
I want to get a small TV for my spare room, and put my treadmill back in there.
Then I can Netflix/Borderlands/whatever.
Exactly what I’ve done with my 360 and my Wii. Once readily available on the old TV both my wife and I are making actual use of them again.
A Wednesday TAYDRENALIN Shot: Asked this on twitter, but what’s the last VHS and first DVD you recall purchasing?
Last VHS: American Beauty
First DVD: Starship Troopers. And it was one of those “double sided” ones so you had to flip the DVD halfway through the film.
Last VHS, Star Wars Trilogy.
First DVD, Twister in 1996 when I first saw DVDs in th US. Was so blown away by the image quality, and ability to switch languages on the fly and the surround sound, I bought an AC3 amp and pioneer combo Laserdisc and DVD player, and then quietly walked it all through customs on my return.
Hazy recollection here, so I think (but I’m not certain and those tapes are about 1700km from here so a bit hard to check):
Last VHS: Enemy of the State
First DVD: Swordfish
First DVD purchased would have been Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
I honestly can’t remember the last VHS we purchased.
Last VHS: No sure, was something war/sniper like I think. Enemy at the gates or something similar
First DVD: No idea, most likely something Disney/Pixar
War/Sniper, hmmm was it The Art Of War with Wesley Snipes?
Clearly that is the only film that fits the criteria
Not sure
VHS – Could’ve been this fancy collector’s set of Titanic I bought for the missus.
DVD – I think it was Corky Romano (stop looking at me funny, it was on sale when we bought our first DVD player).
Last VHS: There were a series of three Nintendo Power promo videos I saw on eBay a few years ago, of the N64, Diddy Kong Racing and Star Fox 64. Pretty sure they were also the first VHS I bought.
First DVD: Uh. Might have been the Super Mario Bros 3 box set which I spied when I was out Christmas shopping for my family. Turns out I shouldn’t have bought it, because my sister had just bought it for me. Oops.
Just looking through my collection (I don’t even know how I have a “collection”), I think the second one I bought was King of Kong, when a friend was selling a bunch of his stuff. And the third was the Alien Quadrilogy, when another friend was selling his stuff. Unless you count buying Futurama seasons as presents for my sister, that would have been the last one 😛
I know the answer for sure to both.
Last VHS I purchased was Neon Genesis Evangelion Vol 13. Dub version because I didn’t know any better.
First DVD I purchased was ‘Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal’ aka the Rurouni Kenshin Tsuioku-hen OVA.
EDIT: And according to my records, the first Bluray I obtained was the Japanese release of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, though it was not the first BD I ordered (which was the super deluxe Kara no Kyoukai BD set)
Last VHS: Pretty sure it was the final volume of Madman’s release of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. I think back then VHS tapes had maybe 2 episodes, so I assume it would have been volume 13. Man that’s a lot of space taken up for one show!
First DVD: The “Bardock – Father of Goku” TV special from DBZ, probably at a Comicfest before I even owned a DVD player. I never entertained the idea of buying the entire series but I think I own Bardock as well as the History of Trunks (and earlier this year I won a copy of Battle of Gods, bringing the number of DBZ DVDs I own up to three \o/). My second DVD was The Score, which I wasn’t able to watch right away. See, I originally bought a DVD player (along with The Score) on lay-by when DVD players were $500 only to discover I wasn’t able to hook it up to our rather old TV. Rather than investing more money and time figuring out a workaround, I returned the DVD player to the store for a refund. I was able to watch Bardock on my PC’s DVD drive but The Score was a rather primitive dual-layer disc and my PC’s DVD drive didn’t have the capacity to switch layers, meaning the DVD would simply hang at the menu. It wasn’t until about 6 months later when I bought another DVD player (at the then ludicrously low price of $128) that I was able to start regularly buying DVDs.
Something I’ve been meaning to ask for the last couple of days:
https://twitter.com/ShadowRize/status/666828633319731201
c) The sobbing of non game ownership
I miss having a disposable income. I’d just throw a copy at you… 😛
None. I’ve barely even played the damn thing.
d) I don’t have a current gen console or a computer that would suitably run the game so i listen to the sound of my own tears slowly making their way down my face
Who am i kidding – i’ve barely even touched fallout 3 yet…
I could never get past the whole not-isometric thing… it just didn’t seem as good anymore…
There is a solid fallout game there is you can flick that switch in your brain
I knowwww… it seemed interesting.. but it didn’t grab me from the get-go, much like Skyrim has done
edit: Maybe if F3 started with me punching a dragon in the testicles, i’d be just as hooked
Travis FTW!
Clicker Heroes peeps. What is the highest level you’ve ever reached?
Me, I’ve been playing on and off for ages (sometimes not touching it for months at a time) and the highest I’ve got to is a paltry level 232 (currently at level 180 on this ascension).
A touch past 2000
IT’S CHULOOPA’S “IN MY ASS” GAME!!
Not to be confused with the equally popular “chuloopa’s in my ass” game!
You know the rules – the title of the last song you listened to followed by “in my ass!”
He’ll never be an old man river in my ass
No he won’t…
Too Funky In My Ass
… Would you like me seduce you? Is that what you’re trying to tell me?
Was this ever in question?
Slavonic dance No. 2 in my ass
I admire the determination of those dancers
Well they call it number 2 for a reason
Damn fine point
Destroy My Ass.
Dayum. That’s a good one.
Good song too.
10 days…
10 days?
Is not the Bri-B-Que in 10 days?
Oh shit it is. Didn’t realise it was that close.
Isn’t it wonderful in my ass?
I’d like to think so
Sudeki de ne?
The Jack In My Ass
Are we talking car jacks or playing cars?
Or the little spiky things?
Or is it actually a man named jack?
None of the above.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jack
I knew the song – it’s ok.
It would be un-Australian not to
Everyone’s a little bit racist in my ass.
Hmm, next song in Avenue Q is the one everyone knows, so probably for the best I answered now.
The next song is “The Internet is for Porn” … I think the 3rd track would be more appropriate.
Or the 10th. Or 11th. Or 15th.
I’m currently experiencing Fantasies Come True In My Ass.
I’ve got that as 11th so you would have just had “You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want (When You’re Makin’ Love) In My Ass”
You’re damn right. Twice over.
Well… there is a LOT of brown in there..
#wentthere
Someone had to, I’m just glad it wasn’t me, because now I get to give you a disapproving stare.
Like I’m used to anything less
Big Dick Know It All Fucker in my ass…
Also, how you doin’ @BDKIAF
That can’t possibly be a song name, can it?
IF it is. then holy shit it was MADE for this game!
The song is called BDKIAF, but that’s what it stands for.
Modern Man In My Ass
Well Then.
Black And White Rag In My Ass.
If it’s black and white you got problems man.
I thought that was if it’s red all over.
Now it’s “Love grows in my ass”
Signal Fire In My Ass
Life is Good in my ass.
The first time, ever I saw your face in my ass.
bahahahahaha
your fa-aace….
@freezespreston count me out for Bri’s 31st man, I have work that night now, sorry 🙁 I was looking forward to coming too!
Friendly reminder that in one month’s time we’ll be sharing our thoughts on The Force Awakens.
FUCK YEEEEEAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!
The one thing that will pull me away from Fallout 4.
Isaac? 😛
My thoughts: not interested 😛
I’m probably not going to get a chance to see it until after Christmas. 🙁
Just realised that my friend’s wedding is this weekend. How is it time for that already?
Is it your…. best friend’s wedding?
FOREVER, AND EVER, YOU’LL STAY IN MYYYY HEEEEEAAARRRTTTTT
Maybe not so much these days, with how infrequently we see each other.
But it could still be my best “friend’s wedding” 😛
So I’m coming from a background in market research, so I can say this with some authority…
The Kotaku Gaming Lifestyle Reader Survey is a pretty shitty survey.
As long as you write “BOARD GAMES” in every free text area, it’s a fantastic survey.q
I wanna play splatoon but Mum is watching TV. I’m also procrastinating on the next lot of bookmarks. I’m the worst.
Can’t you play it on the Wii U controller?
Annoyingly, no. With Splatoon the touchscreen gets relegated to map-bearing duties.
Even though iirc one player can play on the touchscreen in local multiplayer.
Lame, I thought that was the whole point of the touchscreen
Pretty much every game but splatoon supports it. Mainly because the map is super duper handy.
I could play project zero instead.
Just opened Shovel Knight.
OMG MANUAAAAAL
Gonna read the whole thing cover to cover. Right now.
Manual? An artifact from a time long forgotten. I believe in the next Tomb Raider Lara will be hunting down game manuals from a time long gone. Don’t miss the hidden quest to find all the Civilization manuals hidden in identical but unfinished and abandoned Pyramids. It’s a mystery why the builders all decided to not complete their Pyramid
I need sleepMy new Das Keyboard 4 arrived yesterday. So far the mechanical side of it isn’t impressing me, but it’s still a fine keyboard and the pair of USB ports are pretty sweet. The volume dial is just a volume dial but it’s hard to find a keyboard with one so I’m pretty happy about that. The only negative is that the Num Lock/Caps Lock/Scroll Lock lights are pretty much laser pointers. Every time I lean over my desk Num Lock gets me right in the damn eye. Might have to put a drop of paint over it.
To get the most out of a mechanical keyboard (I’m going to assume blue switches because that’s what Das tends to do), don’t bottom out the keys. You only need to press them halfway for them to activate. Get used to using a light touch and it’ll start to make a lot more sense.
Failing that, clack clack clack.
As for the lights. If you were given extra keycaps, you can swap out the keys that are letting light out and replace them with the spares. My numlock says esc on it.
Nah it’s not the light on the keys, I don’t think it has backlit keys, it’s the actual indicator LEDs at the top of the keyboard. The things are supercharged and really focused for some reason. With the lights off and the key tray out it manages to project a dot on the roof. Must be all that extra USB 3 power.
As for the mechanical side I must just have strong fingers or something because this doesn’t feel any different. I like the clicking and it’s a little weird because the buttons aren’t exactly in line with my old keyboard but that’s about it. I guess the real test will be using it for a few months then getting stuck with some dodgy old keyboard when I’m out on site.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is on American Netflix. If you’ve not seen it, it’s one of the all time greats.
As my dad would say, top three of all time.
Other 2?
Not how top 3 of all time works in my family.
Well the midnight launch for Battlefront is so much more popular than the Fallout 4 launch by about -50 people at my EB. At least it’ll be quick in quick out
IT’S A TRAP!
Ackbar should be one of the hero powerups. When you take control of him all you can do is sit in a chair that spins around and goes from side to side Dr Evil style while shouting ‘IT’S A TRAP! IT’S A TRAP!’ everytime you see a stormtrooper or Imperial ship with Rebel cruisers being blown up in the distance
Why can I only upvote this once?
From what I’m seeing of reviews / impressions, that probably sums up the game quite nicely as well.
My girlfriend must think this all the time.
Hm, so apparently Valkyria Chronicles has more than 500,000 owners on Steam.
It sold only 240k on PS3 in Japan.
Hopefully this means they’ll bother localizing the new one!
Still reallly need to get around to playing it – looks really good
Bought Inside Out on blu-ray yesterday, as well as some xmas presents.
I want to start watching it, but I’m so tired…
Just saw the price for the season pass for Star Wars: Battlefront, $75.95 WTF!!! They’d have to use the Jedi mind trick on me to get me to pay that much.
Damn. I thought EA were pushing it when they threw an extra $10 on everything for Battlefield Hardline.
Was under the impression that Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Racer Revenge were going to be released on the Playstation store today, but I can’t find them anywhere.
I am disappoint.
Edit: It appears that they’re only released in the US this week, apparently we have to wait until next week.
The super nintendo star wars games were amazing.
Had very little to do with the show in many ways, but were still amazing.
Also balls-out hard!
Holy crap, I had no idea this was happening. Awesome news.
Sucks we have to wait an extra week, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles I s’pose.
Bounty Hunter was a GameCube exclusive wasn’t it? Seems a bit strange that’d end up on the PSN. [Nevermind. Just Googled it. A bit basic but I thought it was a fun game.]
Nope, came out on the PS2 as well.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Bounty_Hunter
Although Super Star Wars was a SNES games, so it would be the first time released on a non-Nintendo platform.
Trying to play the hardest difficulty of Elite Beat Agents while getting attacked by flies on the train is not a good experience… also it’s getting too hard to finish my latest set of songs and I’m only half way through the hardest difficulty 🙁
I don’t think I even got that far =P
You were in 2-star difficulty when I deleted the data to start over, I’m right now on 3-star difficulty half way through (I think) and it’s getting really bloody hard to keep the focus on, the flies didn’t help and nor did the people knocking me on the train.
That may have been @shane ‘s effort.
I never played that one, actually!
I’m guessing you’re own the Divas difficulty which, have to say, was crazy at times. I managed to beat the game but I’d become so accustomed to the faster gameplay that I couldn’t play normal difficulty anymore. That final boss song is very satisfying to listen to over and over and over again.
Wait there’s another one?! D: I’m on Sweatin’ (Agent Chieftain) right now, geez at this rate I’m going to stop playing cuz it’s just going to cause stress
Yeah, there’s a whole other difficulty level after Agent Chieftain and it was insane at times. I’m pretty sure I scratched my old DS a tonne trying to beat that difficulty.
Nope! Nope! Nope! Not even going to try D:
Played about an hour of skyrim the other day and in that time i killed a Vampire Master and also became the Archmage of the College of Whiterun.
Damn productive hour, I’d say!
No update to the tracking of my Battlefront order since Tuesday, got the feeling it’s not coming today, wouldn’t have ordered online, but it was the only way I could get the collector’s edition.
Screw Australia Post!
So other than @cakesmith and @alexwalker who else has Battlefront on PC? I plan to play a heap of it when I’m not playing Fallout and these games are always better with a squad of friends.
*Squad of partners
But yeah, I’ll be on tonight with a mate of mine as well. Might bump into some TAYbies (with my speeder) along the way
I’ll probably be on tonight too, and I’m assuming Cake will be as well. I’ll give you a shout then if you wanna TeamSpeak/team up etc.
Limited edition copy of Star Wars: A New Hope just arrived in the mail \0/
In other news, found a listing on EBay yesterday for limited edition copies of all the Star Wars movies (including the prequel trilogy) for 60 bucks. Score!
Should be arriving sometime next week.
Can’t wait. So excited!
Mother please…
DEFINITIVE WIDE SCREEN COLLECTION
https://webshop.cashconverters.com.au/item/2265862/star-wars-the-definitive-collection-widescreen-laser-discs-and-book
ON LASER DISCS!!!
BOOM!
That’s awesome. But who the hell has a laser disc player?
It’s awesome-sauce.
And get with the times, man. Laser discs are where it’s at!
I have four laserdisc players, and 11 different versions of the trilogy on laserdisc.
I need help.
Holy Crap!
I have the THX Remastered VHS tapes somewhere.
The ones in the gold or silver box?
I have that – it’s awesome.
No that was the special edition. The ones before that.
They did a digital THX remaster, then they took that remaster and purportedly destroyed bits of it cutting the film up to add all that awful CG into it.
EDIT:
They look like this:
http://i.imgur.com/k6AfTe4.jpg
Except not in French, obviously. That was the best pic I could find.
Ohhh yeah! I remember those ones.
NICE!
I have the VHS Executor box set…
I bought the blu-ray box set the other day. My wife said “don’t you already have Star Wars?” “Yes. 2 sets. On VHS.” “Oh.” “And I thought you’d like to watch Empire and Jedi before we go see Episode 7…?” “That might be good…”
Yes, I married a woman who has only seen A New Hope, only seen it once, and she had a 4 year old giving her a running commentary.
Unfortunately it’ll be the “new and improved” versions, but she’ll live. Just 4-5-6-7 I think.
My wife’s seen them more than once, but she only watches it when I put it on, so basically her choices are watch it, read a book, or go to bed. She pretty much has zero interest in going to watch episode VII.
I have a solution though, @trikeabout, will you marry me?
…she may be a Star Wars noob, but she does love Arrow and the Avengers movies, and she usually goes out with her bestie on Tuesday or Wednesday so I can play Destiny… so I think I’ll stick with her… 🙂
Remember that report I mentioned last week? Well, I just got notes on the changes I made to the report, asking me to make further changes… back to the way it was.
FMFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFL
Should save the originals from now on before making any changes that these idiots ask you to do, that way it would be much easier on you.
Very this. I save weekly backups of every report I do and any changes I make to it so I can roll them back as required.
Yep, have got previous versions. Thanks.
MtG question:
I was under the impression that you can’t cast more than one creature in a turn.
I’m playing the mobile version (which is heaps of fun), but it allowed me to play 2 creatures as i had more than enough mana…. I’m confused!!! HALP!
If you’ve got the mana, go for it.
Edit: From online rulebook.
Thanks mate… Maybe i should track down the online rulebook and have a proper read through.
When we were learning to play at PAX the guy told me i could only cast one.
What an asshole. He was cheating.. even though i was playing on his team!
Would be pretty silly if you could only summon one per turn once you get to the later game and have an abundance of mana. Unless you’ve got some Fireball spells handy.
Summoning only one monster per turn is a Yu-Gi-Oh thing. MtG, like Hearthstone, if you have the spare resources on the field, you can play it from your hand
After seeing the anime, I can’t take yu-gi-oh seriously in the slightest…
If you have the Mana, you can cast it on your turn. In fact, some creatures rely on entering the battlefield the same turn as something else.
You can’t cast creatures on an opponent’s turn. You can only cast instants or activate abilities (unless they have Flash)
You’re going to have so much fun once you find out the wonders of “priority”.
Happy Rodea The Sky Soldier day, everyone 😛
Swung by EB on the way in, took the guy ages to find out if they were even getting any. One single copy, and I’ll have to come back later to get it. Dangit.
Also they had a large bowl of black and white lollies on the bench. I grabbed a black jellybean. Disappointingly, it seemed to be cola flavoured 🙁
What world are we living in that a cola flavoured jellybean is disappointing? Was that your contribution to Page6? It was, wasn’t it. HAHAHAHA, I GET IT. IT’S A JOKE.
The best world. Because aniseed/liquorice >>> cola!
Ahh The black death that is liquorice
I welcome its sweet embrace.
This post is useful as a monster tracker.
Indeed, the licorice jelly-bean is the best flavor, but only those Chosen by Fate understand this.
aniseed? bleeeeuuuuuugggghhhhhh.
Ahh, my two most hated flavors.
My wife just left me for talking too much about video games.
What a ridiculous thing to Fallout 4.

Broken Pencil.
Broken Pencil who?
Never mind it’s pointless.
I got an e-mail saying “Want to see Justin Bieber live?”
I thought it was a ransom demand.
My grandma thinks she’s immune to practical jokes.
So for a laugh I put her walking-stick out of reach.
I can’t believe she fell for it.
My wife left me because of my obsession with scrabble.
Obsession – eleven points.
With only 4 “S” tiles in the bag obsession would be a waste of plural tiles. Plus you’d have to build it off of “Session” (+OB) or either of Obsess +/+ Ion – there’d be more valuable plays on the board. Unless it was end game and you were looking to use up your remaining tiles. I used to play competitively. So what? You shut up! I’ll play where I want! You’ve got a problem!I have a spider in my keyboard. I’m not worried. It’s under Ctrl.

On the weekend some people came banging on my door about how I needed to be ‘saved’ or I would ‘burn’. I shouted angrily at them.
I should be less mean to firemen. I suppose they’re only trying to do their job.

Look, I have a confession here. I don’t always tell dad jokes.
When I do though, he laughs #metadadjoke #dadjokepagesix #hi@strangeWatched one of the deleted scenes on Return of The Jedi, where Luke is being attacked by Palpatine, as he screams out to Vader, “Father, please, I’m dying!”
Vader turns to him and replies, “Hello Dying, I’m Dad.”
I like how haggis only comes for page six and then vanishes, hes like the batman of dad jokes.
He’s not dad we deserve, but he’s the one we need right now.

I’m in two minds about the P4 bookmarks. Do I keep going with the minimalism style, or do I mix it up a bit and go with my original silhouette idea?
Both would work but you need to make sure the glasses pop. They all have their specific color.

That was the end of the discussion.

Haha wow, got an absolutely scathing bit of feedback from some dude in Orlando. Reckons we should all be fired for how bad our product is 😛
Because the support team are exactly the same team that designed said product… 😛
Well… in this case it kinda is >.>
Regardless that’s not useful feedback in the slightest.
We once had someone sending in a service request and instead of attaching the form they’re meant to fill out they just attach a text file named something like “yourspreadsheetreallysuckswhyareyouevenusingthisunnecessaryspreadsheet.txt”
DAMMIT, YOU!
(practicing my cursing at you)
We got a letter addressed to “Complaints” in the mail the other day.
Started with “How dare you bastards send me this spam”, followed by a print out of a spam email.
The email wasn’t even sent from us 😛
Wonder if it was the same guy who complained to us about his Lumosity subscription.
Wait, they actually printed out the email and physically mailed it to you? How much spare time do they have?
Obviously not enough to go and buy a new envelope to send it in. They re-used a bank envelope and tried to scratch off the branding on it 😛
Wow… just… wow… One of THOSE people, hey?
Orlando? He’s just angry because his basketball team hasn’t been relevant since the 90’s.
At least they still have Disney World.
You’d think that. They say it’s the happiest place on earth – but do you know the truth?
They’re all dead inside.
All of them.
Dead.
Or that he keeps switching genders and living for hundreds of years, that’s got to make a man/woman occasionally persnickety.
Pretty sure that’s Keaneu Reeves… Then again, i’ve never seen him change gender..
Well, Tilda Swinton played Orlando in the film.
I sit next to our support team.
This morning they got an email saying “I’m not receiving any emails. Please reply.”

Oh, uh, never mind. Level 8 would be a severe pay cut. This job might suck unshaven donkey testicles a lot of the time but they at least pay me well.
Thanks for putting the image of unsahaved donkey testicles in my head
They weren’t there already?
Well not UNshaved, no
How do you UNsahve testicles anyway?
Bag of hair and a glue-stick?
In this specific instance you wouldn’t necessarily have to use glue. Any sticky substance you have on hand is fine.

What the heck? I was getting paid like Level 8 for just standing there eating ice creams and derping around on some iPads… :/
This is an odd read.

I agree with the broader point, that Fallout has less currency than something like CoD and Asscreed.
Despite it currently being everywhere, Fallout has only released 3 titles in the series in the last ten years. If you haven’t played it, it doesn’t have the same cultural currency as many other franchises (you might now the basics- post apocalyptic, 50s, blonde winky guy giving a thumbs up in a jumpsuit) but the finer points will elude you.
Part of that too is the publisher- Zenimax doesn’t have the war chest that Activision or EA has.
I meant an odd read seeing it from the perspective of an outsider. For us it was one of the biggest releases in a while but for Joe Public it was some random game they saw a poster for once. It’s easy to forget.
It’s not even Joe Public. Thing is, there’s a lot of gamers younger than us/who got in to the hobby later than us that don’t have the association to old Fallout games (me included, I never played 1 & 2) and who weren’t gaming with Fallout 3 (I was, and played & loved it despite being new to the franchise, but if my housemate hadn’t bought it I probably never would have engaged with the series).
A lot of people came to gaming during the PS3’s life, and with the PS4. It’s a bit of a strange thing.
Funny thing for me is I’ve been getting messages from my cousin throughout all of this. He’s new to the series (and new to RPGs pretty much, outside Dragon Age Inquisition and Borderlands/Destiny). He was putting all of his level increases into his SPECIAL, not the perks, because he thought you had to hit 10 to get the perks.
Damn kids, get off my games *shakes controller*
That last bit is just yet another example of Bethesda being shit at UI design though.
No, YOU’RE shit at UI design!
*runs away sobbing*
I guess it goes to show no matter the hype within the gamer demographic, it can still be a niche thing to the wider world.
Oh, damn. I just learnt what mailinator is, so I guess I can’t really respond to that awesome feedback. I’ll just share it instead 😛

Question – I’m organising a secret santa within a group of 8.
Is it a) sneaky, b) preserving the fun of the event, or c) a dick move
IF I assign myself to myself, rather than know who is giving something to me? I’ll still buy me a present and wrap it up. Am I being unnecessarily silly, is this a good / bad idea.
Do it blind. Or get your wife/a noninvolved party to do the hat draw and put them in envelopes.
Wife is involved, I’m at a bit of a loss how to do it blind. Also need to rig one assignment out of the 8.
There are websites that can do it for you.
I’m going with sending everyone a numbered list of the other seven names, then group messaging a single random number that gives everyone their assignment.
Keeps it blind for me too.
You shouldn’t need to rig one? Why would you need to rig one?
Is this all in one place? Put all the names in a hat and have each person draw a name, check it and if it’s their own name, put it back in and redraw. You pull last. No one can complain.
Rigging one because reasons.
Jerkface McAsshole is in the pool?
Reasons.
one participant had already started christmas shopping before the group decision to do secret santaWas that you? 😛
@greenius No. I’m not that organised.
I’m so terrible at organisation that I forgot to put a cheap selfie stick in that care package to FreezeBest I can think if is to come up with 5 valid combinations (and a fake 6th and 7th), send through each list per person. Then that’s too much data for me to inadvertently remember when I then roll a random number to give everyone their assignment.
(There’s only 5 valid options since you can’t get yourself, you can’t get your partner and one is rigged – it’s 4 couples to make the group of 8)
Update from Monday’s personal stuff
So I saw the doctor today, reviewed all the notes and questions and everything. Preliminary diagnosis is “it could be type 2 Bipolar” so we’re adding some mood stabilisers to my medication and will review in a few weeks to make sure things are improving or what the long term solution needs to be.Thanks again to everybody for your support. Being able to be open and honest has made a big difference to my state of mind. I’m a bit flat today (even after sleeping 13 hours) but it’s still great to know I don’t have to hide anything and I can just say “yep, this is what’s going on”. I love all of you. Especially you. Yes, you.
Well don’t I feel special now! =P
*looks around* shut up! HE WAS TALKING TO ME!
But… I was talking to you!
I’m a bit more worried about the fact he was looking around as if there’s a whole crowd of people there…
Shhhhh… he thinks the puppets are people.I’m never far away.
That’s why I was talking to you.
Also why you’re wearing that negligee I assume.
Well, yeah, but that goes without saying.

All hail Zoidberg, the king with the box!
I know.
*Han Solo and The Princess theme plays*
But who shot first?
A gentleman never tells.
Oh so it’s your fault I couldn’t sleep last night. You stole it all for yourself.
13 hours last night, 12 hours the night before. All the sleep in sleeptown shall be mine!
Not much to say beyond I’m reading all of this and it’s good to see you’re taking charge. 🙂
This is the first I’m hearing this (I am the worst friend =P) The great thing about Tay is that we accept people for all their issues whether they’re physical or mental. People here don’t judge and if the world were just a little bit like TAY, it would be a hell of a great place.
So much this. I was telling a couple friends about TAY (as part of a discussion on opening up to people) and I was describing our community as one of the best on the Internet, hands down.
And hi to them if they’re still lurking. 😛
Mum knows all about the fact that Taybies are generous and will often out generous each other =P And she hasn’t met a Taybie she doesn’t like.
One day you may even find you’ll be calling us friends instead of internet weirdos.
Not yet but one day.
Also, hi stalker friends we haven’t met. *waves*
I am 99% sure I called everybody friends. 99%.
Running joke between myself and @dc.
Oh, I see how it is. I’m not good enough for the running joke. :'(
That’s great man. Really glad to hear you’re making progress.Hoorah. My work shirt has arrived. Now all I need is an official BWS name badge, none of this Woolworths shit lol.
$320 in tablet repairs later aaaaaaargharghargh
Could have bought a new tablet.
If repairs had been much more, I would have.
“Rize, those delta backups still aren’t processing correctly. Any idea how to push them through?”
*deletes today’s delta*
“I mean…yeah, that might…uhhh…fix it but…uh…should you have done that?”
*deletes entire site backup folder*
“…I’m going to pretend I didn’t see any of this”
I could have told him that I already rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up including recapturing all backups correctly but this was far more fun. It’s all in the timing… 😀
No aircon, feels like 33 degrees and I’m attempting to write a short business report for uni.
I took the day off work to get this shit done and at this stage I’d prefer to be at work.
Temptation to play games is overwhelming but fuck it I’m going to get this done… just after I read some more of the internet.
3DS! Was in my bag when I was wandering around CBD at lunch. Got back to work, and first ever Streetpass… cool!
“Hi. Recently I’ve been playing…” Oooh, games suggestion…?

I could actually be that guy. But better!
Got a copy of Orange Box sitting at home waiting to be played one day. Someday. On 360.
That’s it. I’m checking my box of games when I get home and if my copy of The Orange Box on 360 is missing I’m coming after you, tacoboy!
@quiz_b had Health and Safety Warning as his last played all PAX.
Whee, got my copy of Rodea. Forgot to check with JB if they actually had it at all.
But ended up getting Project Zero special edition because idk apparently I felt like spending money today.
I will annoy you to talk about all the things. All the ghosties and stuff.
I’ll be sure to let you know if I ever get around to playing it 😛
*shakes fist*
I’d love to get Project Zero, really dug the older games in the series but I don’t even know ow where my Wii U is at the moment and not super inclined to try and find it.
WHY AM I ONLY LEARNING THIS NOW? D=
Favourite one?
Uh, the one where you start in the forest and head into the fuedal era village and the first ghost comes out of the box. I honestly can’t remember the name for that one, but it was the raddest. Freaked my wife out so much.
Edit: Upon a quick check it turns out to be Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly on the PS2.
Project Zero II Crimson butterfly. There’s a remake for that on wii.
Crimson Butterfly freaked the shit out of me.
Not literally.
Things I don’t understand #91304482 (part of a series of 4897098711238): How a single person can play the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.

“Doesn’t sound that bad, I’ll skip ahead a bit”
repeat x5
“Ohhhhh THAT ONE”
I agree. Defs only playable by a pair of ducks 😛
If you can arrange and film a pair of ducks playing it I will give you so many moneys.
Uh…. here’s one I prepared earlier? 😛
REAL DUCKS. MAKE IT HAPPEN.
So earlier I noticed a guy driving the streets around here, pulling over every now and then to go through the piles of trash people are leaving out (for council pick up) trying to find anything worth salvaging whilst his partner sits in the passenger seat looking really unamused.
At first I was like Ha! someone worse at this dating thing then I am. Then I realised he has a date to let down AND 3/5ths of a working stereo. Now I’m sad.

I suddenly have next Saturday evening free. Any interest in an old fashioned meat from 6:30pm till whenever???? I’m right next to west Ryde station. Saturday 28th November.
Is it the Saturday or is it the 27th?
You can only pick one 😛
He didn’t say what year.
Damn calendar having Saturday be last day of the week. I shall amend.
Oh yeah, forgot to say likely can’t attend since that Saturday looks to be pretty busy already.
Just like anytime anyone suggests that they do anything around Sydney, I politely point out that your plans are bad and we should instead go to Spawn Point.
THEY HAVE AN OCCULUS RIFT.
That is all.
Ehhh the only reason I tend to go there is to visit my friend who works there. There are better places to drink and if you drink enough you get dizzy and throw up just like an oculus rift.
I usually have a good time there – the girls either get stuck into occulus, guitar hero or some sort of sinaglong game, or we do a round of Cards Against Humanity.
Last time we were there, we got obnoxiously drunk and forced the couple next to us to join in CAH. I swear they were on a really awkward looking tinder date – I also don’t think we helped the situation.
tl;dr that place is fun.
Oh I’m aware theres fun to be had but I go out drinking to drink and I prefer to do that in dark hidden places.
Have you been to Stitch Bar on York St? The lighting in there is terrible.
Actually my vote would be somewhere in Glebe. The bars there are pretty cool without being too pretentious. Also I live there, so I’m a little biased.
Heh. Have I been to stitch bar. Does man drink water? Also I’m at spawn right now are you here. (Mr Falcons does malt cider it’s awesome in winter if you haven’t tried it.)
So this is a little late, but I was not there. Potentially going tonight… will definitely try the cider if I do!
Malt cider, you say? Sounds like something I gotta try!
Been there once a few years back, it was where Finnish Girl introduced me to… Pimms, is it? That was nice. She also introduced me to gin and tonic, and Hendrick’s. Those were great learndings.
No can do, homeslice. I’ll have to steal your bean bag some other time. Sorry!
Then you’re no homeslice of mine.
Actually crying now.
Sounds like you could use a beanbag
Sorry mate, I’ve got a wedding down the south coast on the friday, and we’re staying at the girlfriends’ parentals’ house on the saturday on the way back 🙁
In case anyone is wondering, and I doubt anyone is, there are more board game articles in the pipeline. The next one should be on Lifehacker today.
In other board gaming news, I played Power Grid yesterday with some people who are absolutely obsessed with it. I came fourth of six. I’m actually quite happy with that considering I made several huge mistakes and quite a few minor ones. Some smarter play and I think I could comfortably be competitive against these guys. Considering that they play this game nonstop, it feels good to know that I can catch up quickly.
I’ve only ever played a few games of Power Grid but I always marvel at how beautiful it is. The interlocking mechanics that are all so finely mathematically balanced and everything. It’s basically the textbook example of a European Board Game I guess.
It’s a very well-balanced train game that’s been rethemed to justify fantastic auction and resource management mechanics. The whole constantly changing turn order that goes backwards and forwards is a bit off-putting for some. It’s still rad.
Plus all the bonus maps you can buy tend to change the game in interesting ways.
The resource system is one of the stand-out bits for me I think. It’s so simple but so elegant and it’s tuned so perfectly.
Battlefront is on board for delivery today \o/
Played a bunch of Battlefront last night. Some highlights:
– Playing as Han Solo and hiding in a bush on Endor, shooting people as they ran past like the hero I am
– Dueling Vader as Luke and winning
– Winning a melee fight against Vader as Solo by shoulder charging him into a tree
– Ramming the Emperor with an A-wing
Still having issues with getting stuck in the environment and being bumped/blocked by team mates that are 2 metres away, but other than that it’s totally worth it.
Proving once and for all that Han shot first.
Han shot.
There is no ‘first’ involved. He shot Greedo and killed him. There was no other shot so talking about first or second is irrelevant.
I realize that, I was just trying to be funny.
I played a few rounds last night and I had the same issue too. Kept getting stuck on some tree roots in Endor.
Don’t forget about them Y-Wings….
http://i.imgur.com/pgjFq8W.jpg
I’d forgotten about that! Imagine if they actually managed to do their bombing run…
I still need to turn my epic X-Wing run into a gif.
I really, really wish I was running Shadowplay last night. Had some legitimately amazing moments as heroes 😀
Oh man, the main issue I’ve run into is terrible team mates.
Partner shot my proximity mine that was protecting the uplink immediately after I placed it.
Crappy team mates are generally a given complaint for me (because *I’m* so great, etc…) but I haven’t had anything that directly shitty 😐
Lemme tell you, I was pretty cross.
So I finally sat down and played a little Fallout 4 last night. Previously my effort had been limited to leaving the vault and … that’s about it. I’m still only about 5 hours in though. Thoughts / amusements from my playthrough follow.
I’ve been skirting around Concord and studiously avoiding it. As I first walked by I noticed what seemed like a scripted fight (rather than an organic one) so I immediately detoured around the town and snuck my way through the wilderness. Found a drive-through and could see what looked like a human figure. Sniped it with a pistol (what a shot!) aaaand it was a mannequin. Great shooting, Bob.Continued to sneak around the wilderness and discovered a house standing alone. Wasn’t marked on the map as a location. There were 3 wild dogs, including an Alpha. After getting mauled by the Alpha I had the great idea to stand on a wrecked car that was outside. This seemed to screw with the dogs pathfinding as I’d shoot them and they’d run away as far as they could. Then they’d go from Danger->Caution->Hidden, walk back and as soon as they saw me on the car they’d run away again. I shot until I killed them.
Then there was some … I dunno. Radio outpost? It had one of those speaker robots just hovering around outside doing nothing. Hacked a computer system to open a door and… that was it? Found a farm. Picked some melons. Hit on the farmers’ daughter (in my head) and agreed to do a mission for them. The first mission I’d accepted.
Decided “screw that” though and kept exploring. Found a shipping depot and was attacked by ghouls but again, standing on high ground (a bus) seemed to screw with their pathfinding. They’d do the same “run away and return” thing the dogs were doing. Killed them. Was impressed that the vehicles would blow up if I shot them / they caught fire. Little things like that make me happy. Activated the robot at the depot and decided to move on to that mission I accepted.
On my way to do the mission I decided I may as well stop by Concord and do the mission as expected. It was fun, but I think my refusal to come down from the roof in the power armor screwed with pathfinding yet again. The deathclaw showed up, stayed waaaaaay back down the street and all the raiders attacked it instead of me. Then it seemed to get stuck. I tried sniping it from the roof but nothing happened, so I jumped down and it was stuck in a car. Killed it with the minigun, no challenge at all, and was given deathclaw meat and a silver platter. Seemed fitting.
Went back to Sanctuary (side note: How do the group know about it? It’s not a settlement yet. It’s just my home. That annoys me) with the group of people and suddenly the game becomes BOB’S QUEST FOR COPPER IN THE WASTELAND. Tried to scavenge as much copper as I could from what I’d found so far (not much) and ran out. Saved and went to bed. Tonight will be all copper mining.
I’m enjoying it.
Edit: Also, can I just say, having the app on my phone is so incredibly amazing. I love being able to have that extra screen with my inventory / map / other always ready without having to “pause” the game to go in to Pip-Boy. More games need things like this.
You want telephones and hotplates for copper. Also, desk fans have gears which you’ll wish you had more of later.
I recommend tagging oil, copper, aluminium and gears in your inventory so items containing them will have a magnifying glass icon over them when you look at them, so you don’t forget to scavenge them. When you get the level 2 scavenger perk, items with components you’re seeking will glow, even if they’re in a container or locked safe.
Cheers, that’s a really helpful tip! I wasn’t quite sure what the tagging items did, I’ll be sure to keep all that in mind. 😀
That old lady in the group is leading them to a place called Sanctuary and she reckons it’s to the north. The other’s in her group take it literally i.e. she’s leading us to safety but she actually meant a town called Sanctuary which you inevitably link them to! With regards to copper/wiring see my comment a few pages back! I wasted so much copper when I started without realizing it cos once you make something that uses up copper you cant scrap it and get copper back!I’ve been avoiding all discussion on F4 so that I can experience it blind. Since I play so slowly, and tend to avoid all story quests for quite a while (In Skyrim I didn’t play the first story quest until 80 hours in) I find it’s better to avoid anything that might have a plot discussion. I expect I won’t hit Diamond City for at least … a long time.Re: The old lady with the sight, I kind of figured that’s what they were getting at with discovering the town, it just felt like a cop out. I’m sure that feeling will pass with time.
And is that a waste though? You made what you wanted, and it used copper. Just not the most efficient use?
It took me 10 hours of play to scrounge up enough copper to completely light up one house…. so yes the learning copper wasted was a waste! D= i’m hoping copper becomes easier to find in the future as I keep levelling up!
There’s actually some really good story quests in there so get stuck into them eventually; that said I was exploring same as you and clearing out dungeons but then I found out that dungeons respawn after some time has passed and gave up on clearing everything =[I will get to the story content eventually, I just prefer to do it in my own time instead of the game railroading me in to it. I’ve had every single character I’ve spoken to (with dialogue selection) mention Diamond City so far. Every. Single. One. So I’m going to avoid it for a while. Screw you, game!I’ve got both ranks in the scavving perk and can get copper from pipe guns 😀
It looks like the first rank of Scrapper is what allows copper, and if memory serves me correctly I took a rank in that just before I shut down last night. Should be all set if that’s the case. 🙂
Huh. Next thing on the list for me to get then.
Just an FYI about melee avoidance, be aware that some enemies are perfectly happy jumping on things with you and tearing you a new set of foot-wide tear ducts for you to cry out of as you run screaming from them.
Haha, yes I’m sure there’s enemies who’ll jump on top of things with me. In fact one of the ghouls took me by surprise in that instead of having a pathfinding meltdown he had a pathfinding brainwave and ran up some stairs, around a landing and then jumped down on to the bus I was standing on. Genuine “HOLY CRAP!” moment as I’m backpedalling and trying to remember which button was melee attack.
Nice! I’ve had a few things happen like that and I love it.
I always feel guilty when I break pathing to survive a fight against a melee opponent in Bethesda games. I mean, it’s not like it’s wrong to do it, it just feels cheap…which is why when I had my arse handed to me by a jumping legendary enemy (I won’t say what is was) I wasn’t even mad.
Haha, yeah it’s cheap but … well if it was the real world and there was a feral dog trying to get at me, I’d climb the hell on a bus and take pot shots at it! But it’s great when the game mechanics find ways to surprise and subvert our expectations. Things like that (your legendary) make playing them worthwhile.
Fiddling with a game design in my head that uses a card mechanic. Current theme I’m thinking is to do with oil drilling/peak oil, but I worry that’s a bit dull. Anyone got any ideas that would give it a bit more pop/similar themes?
People thought that about phoenix wright. He’s a lawyer for feck’s sake. =P
Sorry, Board Game design. Doesn’t have the same delivery vector for quirk as Phoenix Wright.
Well, now I look like a dick. =P
Is there similar games that you can use as a base?
Mechanically, I have a concept, that’s fine. I just dunno if oil is an interesting theme. If you went up to your friends and said “lets play a card game about oil!” would they leap at it?
If the game mechanics are interesting enough, the theme is irrelevant.
Let’s play a game about building railroads!
Let’s play a game about fireworks!
Let’s play a game about generating electricity!
I’m sure Bun can come up with better examples of mundane themes with great mechanics.
I agree with you, but dude, Fireworks are the best.
What about poop?
I know, fireworks are awesome but if somebody told me there was a board game about them… I don’t know that I’d be immediately enthused. They’re a visual / moving medium where board games are static.
@scree …what about poop?
There is a game about poop. That’s what I’m saying, calm down.
I remember playing a game as a kid with my brother where you were someone sitting on top of a skyscraper.
Your mission was to poop on passers by on the streets below.
The developer’s previous game was — I think — Gorillas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorillas_(video_game)
QBASIC games, people.
@alexwalker HOW DID YOU POST A REPLY SO FAR DOWN A REPLY CHAIN
WITCH
BURN HIM
MOD ABUSE
HALP
How about a game about queueing called Queue?
I’d play it.
@beeawwb I own it.
That sounds genuinely interesting to me. Which I guess proves the point?
@alexwalker Was it Muddy Heights by any chance?
Not going to lie, if I can love a game about electricity, patent dealing, and industrialisation, I’m pretty sure I can love a game about oil barons, Saudi princes, and Russian oligarchs.
I have a board game design i have drafted about a bunch of farmers killing a rabbit.
Its my single greatest idea.
Sidevote.
In a similar vein, I’ve been tossing around a RPG game idea that only uses cards instead of dice. It’s certainly a tricky prospect to come up with a game all by yourself.
only uses card, like D&D 4e? (cue laugh track)
Have a look at Project Dark by Will Hindmarch, I believe that resolves through playing cards.
True story: I bought a physical set of cards to assist my 4e play. Man, was that silly.
You can shape the theme around the mechanics once the game starts to feel more fleshed out.
Anyhow, with the right approach, you can make any theme work. Could go with a goofy Beverly Hillbilly type oil baron idea or a desperate, hard working oil driller. There’s a lot of variation. Find out what works and then work everything else around that.
Everyone’s going on about Fallout 4 and Battlefront… and here I am playing Soul Calibur 2 on my Gamecube…
Sure beats playing no video games at all.
Being social sucks!
Watching the pilot of Stargate Atlantis for reasons I can no longer remember, and all I can think is that if Uncharted had been made into a movie, Joe Flanagan could have been a pretty good casting choice for Nathan Drake.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who thought this at one stage.
Just Googled it, and apparently there are some pretty militant advocates of this perspective…
Major/Colonel Shepard was always a military and not-so-clever version of Nathan Drake in my eyes, he had the same kind of charm
He always kind of struck me as a slightly less great Nathan Fillion.
Then again, NF is everywhere now, so go Joe!
I played some Assassin’s Creed Syndicate last night when it unlocked for PC.
I think I’m done with AC. I’ve played every release so far, and until Unity I finished them all, but I’ve gotten more and more fed up with them over time. Ennui was well and truly setting in toward the end of AC4 and Rogue, and Unity was so repetitive and utterly bland that it just lost me.
Everyone was saying Syndicate is so much better and everything, but I’m not seeing it. We’re nine games in (ten if you could Liberation) and they still have fucking atrocious controls where you stick to a wall or jump off in random directions. Actually I think the Unity change to have an ‘up’ and ‘down’ which don’t fucking work the way you expect has made the signature parkour of the game even worse than it used to be.
The plot’s the same tired old shit. They shot their own feet off by leaving the Renaissance period. This is way too modern and it’s just not interesting any more. A big chunk of the appeal of the games early on was visiting areas and time periods that had never been in games or other media. How many times had we gone to Jerusalem during the Crusades in a game? Renaissance Venice? Constantinople just after the Ottoman conquest? Then suddenly we’re in the 18th Century dicking around with Washington and hanging out in late 19th century London. All interesting historical periods to be sure, but they’re also far from unique.
But really I’ve just grown sick of how the games play. Other games have out-Assassined Assassin’s Creed. The animation used to feel so fluid and now just feels clunky and out of balance. The controls are crap and get worse. It’s still the exact same mix of boring gameplay types that they had in the very first game. All the fucking people whinging about the combat being ‘too easy’ have resulted in combat feeling like a complete chore too – I liked feeling like a badass in hand to hand combat, dammit. 🙁 I had amazing fun taking down hordes of dudes in AC1 using just a dagger.
The stealth gameplay is still shit. Syndicate has amazing lighting but it doesn’t seem to factor into gameplay at all. You don’t have enough tricks and tools to actually be effective in stealth. Enemies feel like they have eyes in the back of their skulls sometimes. All the bits they want you to do with stealth have a designed path and if you deviate from it, you get punished for not seeing the immaculate path the designer had put in despite them not making it even remotely obvious. Whenever you deviate from that – like when you try to jump at a ledge and instead attach to a hanging lamp that you then can’t get off of, or fly off to the side or whatever – it feels like the wheels have come off.
Fuck this shit. Where’s Shadow of Mordor 2? That was actually a good AC game.
Man Altair’s dagger animations were pretty boss with counters. I got bored of it after Brotherhood cuz they seemed to just make it worse and worse.
The dagger was just right. Quick and deadly, able to block but required tighter timing than the sword, but you could actually block with it unlike the hidden blade.
Also loved that the only projectile was throwing knives. You could make yourself feel like an amazing badass sometimes. Hop up a ledge, whip out a knife at the guy across the way as you turn and in the same movement dagger a dude beside you. No fucking smoke bombs or crossbows or pistols or anything.
All the melee combat has gone backwards since that first game. 🙁
I still remember my brother and I cringing at how brutal the counter kills were on AC1, like the stabbing of the foot then instantly cut up to the face.
THere’s an Ezio one where he stabs a dude in the neck like 3 times that was pretty damn cool.
If there’s one thing that gives me the shits about Assassins Creed game it’s the guns. Just, get rid of them :S The knives were awesome. Never seen any point in smoke bombs though.
I’m hoping if we stop buying AC games they’ll focus on making bomb-ass pirate games.
Next summer, Black Flag 2: The Cutlassing – “now without the futuristic framing device that we’ve pretty much abandoned anyway!”
Two Assassins Boat games was enough I think. I’d be fine with that being its own series but I think Assassin’s Creed needs to take a rest and go bi-yearly.
Bring back Prince of Persia! Still waiting for my sequel to PoP ’08.
Got an ending in Fallout 4, now I can try out all that crafting & building stuff :3
JESUS CHRIST
you are always the play it slow guy and you already got a ending. This game must be addictive as fudge.
Yeah, Remote Play helps considerably & I’ve mostly avoided the building stuff.
It is good though, probably my favourite of Bethesda’s. Can’t wait to see what Elder Scrolls 6 will be like 😀
Fallpoop 4?
Poop out Whore
Okay, so some people may know that Victoria had a storm last night. Between 2am and 3 am, I spent my night consoling my dog who’d decided that this thunder was too loud and could not be barked at.
At first he just wanted to be close to me and Mum (initially) but then he jumped up on my bed and refused to get off. I ended up just patting him and trying occasionally to get him to jump off. It didn’t work, he would just turn around and snuggle in closer. It was still hot as hell, so having a dog lying right next to me didn’t help at all.
Big sook.
My suburb had lightning strikes within a kilometre of where I lived after 1am, this morning traffic lights were still out and there were power outages impacting train services.
Hope Sid is okay now
It was definitely close to us too. Sid wanted to go out the back but it was too close and I wouldn’t let it.
It was a bloody fantastic storm, even if I am tired today because of it
Yep, I was up at 2 for that storm as well.
Didn’t hear a peep from the mutt though.
@trikeabout
Not sure I’ll be able to make tonight, rough night so I’ll see how Mrs Tigs copes today
No worries, it’s all casual. Catch up another time if not today! 🙂
I should be on track to come down, what time will you be there?
17:30 🙂
Alright cool, keep an eye out for the guy (white and grey striped shirt with jeans) with an umbrella in his backpack if it’s not already out
Nice. I’m in a blue t-shirt with the number 42 on the back… 🙂
And now I’m going to trot down to All-Star Comics to collect my standing order then head to the purveyor of fine ales.
This may or may not make it over to Kotaku but I was asked to contribute to Lifehacker’s evil week in the only way that I know how.
Thats not a article about bread in the microwave.
0/10
Trust me, if there was a way to work that into the article I couldn’t find it. I did look for a way to work it into the article.
Oh man, I comment so infrequently on Lifehacker that my comment on my own article is in moderation. This should not amuse me. It does.
MAN, WHO’D BE STUPID ENOUGH TO DO THAT IN SPLENDOR? HAHAHA, WHAT A FOOL. >.>
WHO’D BE DUMB ENOUGH TO LOSE TO IT?
TWICE?
About to start making offers on apartments. Two basic apartments, one in a better building one in a better location, equal distance from PAX (one over the river one across the road from the back of the Exhibition Centre). Which one should I pick?
Is the better building dramatically better than the other? Is the better location dramatically better than the other?
If you answered no to both of these questions, go with the shinier option.
Go for which is the better apartment, you will spend more time in there that the area around it.
+1
That’s the problem though, on the important features they’re pretty much the same. I’m putting a gym against an extra 5 minutes to get anywhere. As someone who walks rather than driving 5 minutes is nothing, and I’ve already got my basic gym equipment covered so the gym would really just mean swapping dragging it out for going down a few floors. I can’t go wrong with either but comparing this stuff does my head in.
Then the answer is simple.
Coin toss 😛
The gym is more than that, it means you don’t have to store your gym stuff at home. Depending on what you have that is an extra half a room of space you are getting.
Another consideration based on the locations you are saying is I think there are plans to build a tram/train line through there with another bridge across the Yarra. Would either location be adversely affected by that.
Got the one on the Flinders St side of the Yarra. I probably could have busted the vendors balls a little harder but I’m happy with the price. Now to fill it with garbage! =D
Found your comment too late but I was going to give a vote for the CBD side. Glad you got that one 😉
Oh hey, some kind of mysterious yellow envelope arrived. From someone named @shane.
Better call in the bomb squad.
Or the drug squad! You know, so you can share the drugs with the squad.
I should tell you about the time I was unwittingly posting cocaine in the mail.
Sounds like a story worthy of a Zeitgeist revival… or a Christmas Special.
Yes…. shall we say a… white christmas?
YYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
I’m hoping this isn’t a joke because I want to hear this story.
Glad it got there, man. Make sure everything you care about is outside a 200m radius when you open it, okay?
…shit
Does that mean those of us over 200m from @mrtaco are the ones he really cares about?
Awwwwwwwwww.

@greenius @powalen @etc
Nah. I’d rather sit in the comfort of my home and laugh at/mock/complain about other people doing those things. 😛
BRO
(@sughly)
So how’s about that Baileys ice cream that’s on sale for half price at Coles? Spoiler: It’s so friggen good. Unlike the Connoisseur ‘alcoholic’ ice cream tubs, the Baileys ones actually do have alcohol in them!
Also am I the only one keen for the new Mario and Luigi game? I feel like whilst everyone’s been on the Fallout hype train the real* GOTY is being overshadowed! All the Mario and Luigi hype!
*Probs not, but I can dream
PAPER JAAAAAAAM!
Wait, how are coles selling alcoholic ice cream? Do they do id checks when you buy it?
Not that I’m aware of. A bit hard to police through self serve checkouts though. It has a whole 0.43% alcohol in it and I don’t think I can ever eat ice cream without alcohol in it again 😛
ok. Low enough that the supermarket can sell it. Ultralight beer is 0.5%, and the juice in your fridge after a week probably has more.
Ever drunk Baileys from a shoe?
God some of the comments in that price of journalism article. I think I’m quitting the internet for the day; see you peeps next week.
The usual suspects.
GG Cheerleader 1, GG Cheerleader 2…
Ayup. I would have thought that that article was exactly about ethics in games journalism.
Because I never learned exactly what killed the cat
https://m.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/3tgiua/happenings_kotaku_crying_over_their_embargoes_by/
Apparently this is proof of a Gamergate victory over Kotaku somehow? Even reading their comments I still don’t know how but they say it definitely is.
Well, when you keep losing, you’ll grasp at anything as a victory.
I read it before they arrived 🙂
Read it earlier this morning, didn’t think too much of it.
After seeing this, decided to check back in to the comments to see how bad it could possibly be.
I now have a headache and a thoroughly worse view of humanity in general.
No don’t leave us alone here…
Massively over catered morning tea means I’ve managed to eat my weight in various cheeses throughout the day.
You think I’d be sick of it by now, but…*wanders off to the lunch room*
There’s no such thing as too much cheese.
I agree.
*waddles off to the lunch room*
Any brie left?
I’ll go check.
*rolls off to the lunchroom*
@popdart5 @scree Elite Beat Agents
I’ve finally managed to scrape through and make it to the final mission on Chieftain, I can’t even get past the first song of two yet, so bloody difficult to keep up 😛
Thankfully the EBA songs were enjoyable enough that I never got sick of them even if I kept failing. Always a joy to hear them again while trying to finish the level.
How’d you go with the Green Day song with the amusement park and the baseball player? I found that song to probably be the second hardest song in the game.
Yeah very true all the songs are great to listen to.
As for Green Day (the Anthem), I beat it but only just, good thing I don’t need to be at “Yes” for the final section cuz I was one note away from failing the song entirely
I don’t remember much of Elite beat agents because I played it years ago. So long ago.
What kind of machine are you 😛
tick tock tick tock beer o’clock?
Not yet.
tick tock tick tock…
Let’s be honest, it’s been beer o’clock since about 11am on Wednesday.
Not quite yet. Still have one more bit of driving to do today. Then it’s wine’o’clock with all the ice.
Question: Is doing honours worth it? UTAS have been emailing me every few days for over a month about it and now they’ve started calling me to try and get me to do it to the point that they’re willing to work out a course with me that I’m happy to do, but I still just don’t know if it’s something I really want to do.
Anyone else done honours? Is it in any way… fulfilling, I guess? lol
I might ping @batguy and see if he wants to offer any advice.
Have I personally done honours? No. But I was asking a friend who is doing honours about her and her husband’s (who already has done) experiences. I think my exact question was something along the lines of “What’s the point of honours?”
She summed it up for me as a chance to show potential employers that you’re capable of working independently on a project for a long period of time (a year) self-driven, and the quality of that work. You have to be able to come up with an idea, get it approved, execute the idea, and then write about it. Being able to do all of those things well can be extremely useful for an employer to know. Apart from that, if you weren’t going to need that kind of project or reference it’s not always worth it and can just be time otherwise spent.
This may be complete crap, as I have no personal experience and haven’t even finished a single degree. YRMV.
I’m a little biased, given that I spent another 4 years at uni after that, but: yeah, probably.
If you actually enjoy your course, and want to get a little more exposure to the state of the art, then yes. If they’re decent, the lecturers/tutors will produce very interesting lectures and projects. They talk to you about stuff that actually interests them (rather than just ticking course requirement boxes) and basically treat you as peers. After all, you’ve chosen to spend additional time and money to be there, so you’re probably not going to waste their time.
Then the final project can be a super-interesting chance to work directly with experts in your field, potentially on an actually ground-breaking project. It will be tough, and you’ll go a little crazy, but you’ll learn a lot about your field AND yourself in the process. Probably make some good friends, too, if there’s others going through the same process with you.
Or, you could end up with lecturers who are bored to deal with you (or are teaching the same course to full fee paying masters students, as happened in one of my honours courses), and a project that is unimaginative and uninspiring. Hard to know from over here! Plus, you’re choosing to spend additional time and money hanging around uni, which may not be the wisest choice in your given situation (though, honestly, neither is going to be a problem in the long run).
I chose to do honours over two years: course work first year, project second year, working part-time throughout. That worked really well for me, and is worth investigating. In particular, it was great because that you didn’t have to deal with exams AND major project at the same time. You could give your full focus to each.
If you’re contemplating it, I’d strongly recommend talking to current/past honours students first. They’re the ones who can tell you whether it will be interesting and rewarding, or boring and an expensive waste of time.
Oh, and if you want to know what the material benefits are: partly what @beeawwb said above, about completing a long-term project, but there’s a lot to be gained during the writing process, even if your future employees don’t recognise it during an interview: learning how to build and prove a long form argument, logically organising your thoughts on the page, etc. I am constantly complimented on my ability to write clear technical documentation, which is apparently a rarity in IT.
The in-depth investigations of advanced topics may trigger something in you, and let you realise what you actually want to do with your career.
And who knows – you may be really good at this research malarkey, and decide to hang around for a few more years and do a PhD?
Plus, pizza-fueled chair races down deserted corridors at 2 in the morning? Awesome!
Thanks for the info! I think I’ll confirm the few meetings they’ve pushed on me next week at least and see what I can do. My biggest issue is that it’s in the school of ICT and the majority of supervisors are either programming or games based which isn’t relevant to me at all considering I did an info systems degree and spent most half my time in the business school, but they seem to be happy to work out something more business oriented that I can do. If I can do something business related then I’ll be happy to do honours for them. They also said they’ll sponsor a couple of courses for me so that should help cost wise at least.
Thankfullyyyy I already know the majority of teachers and lecturers and that which definitely helps. Most of them are pretty good to deal with. Some of them don’t care but I doubt I’d run into them with the units I’d be looking at.
PUPPIES! PUPPIES PUPPIES PUPPIES!
RSPCA arranged for Alice and her litter to meet up on Sunday so Canberra Times could do a story on them. Here you go. For the first time, I’m glad there’s the arbitrarily added video.
You get an upvote for “biggest muppet”
Mr. Wells.
Paraphrasing, but:
Woah. Interesting. I re-watched Knocked Up today. Great movie. I’m now re-watching it right now with commentary. One of my critisisms of the movie is that all of the main character’s friends use the same name as the actors. I thought that wad lazy. But Judd Apatow said that this is because he deliberately cast Seth Rogan’s friends, and got them to have a conversation like they would in real life and filmed it. Having them use their real names was to make it seem more natural.
It’s funny what you discover.
Oh yeah, boardgames last night. Played Mage Knight at he boss’ house. With his 8ish year old daughter asking questions every few seconds 😛
I think it would’ve been difficult to grasp anyway. But we kinda started making some headway and began to get the hang of things, it took a long time though. We’re gonna try and resume the game next time, took some pictures of the board setup. Seems pretty cool.
Mage Knight is one of those games that’s definitely on my to do list. Looks absolutely fantastic. Also looks like a massive beast to tame. It’s infamous for being difficult to learn simply because there’s so much there.
On the other hand, it was part of Shut Up and Sit Down’s Wizard episode so it has to be good.
I wanna be a wizard.
Yeah, we were pretty awestruck by just how much game there seemed to be. All the rules and mechanics everywhere, even just imagining how you’d come up with such a thing in the first place is like… damn 😛
Even though he’s played it before, boss had to keep referring to the rules to check on things all the time. Also, the pieces and everything do look pretty great. Though wouldn’t want to have bad eyesight, trying to read the numbers on the rotational base of the castles/bad guy (we had the expansion going). But then I guess they’re in the books so they probably don’t really matter too much.
What to do after work on a Friday night?
Drink some beers and watch Eddie Murphy: Delirious. Why the hell not.
HEY BOY! HEY BOY!
Ya lookin’ mighty cute in them jeans…
Goonie goo goo.
Note to self: Rewatch Delirious. And Raw. And Trading Places. And Coming To America. And The Golden Child.
BROTHER NUMSY!!!!!!
XBOX is doing a digital Black Friday sale if anyone is looking for XBOX 360/One games. 20th Nov to 23rd Nov. Mostly your standard Deals with Gold rates, but there’s a few gems in there. Especially on the 360. It’s dumb that it’s normal price is still $20, but I’m tempted to pick up Bully at $5 just in case it makes it to the XBOX One BC list. Same with a digital copy of New Vegas, Red Dead and LA Noire.
Apparently they’ll do the first month of an XBOX Live Gold subscription for a dollar. So I guess if you don’t have XBOX Live Gold you can make a new account, set your console as it’s home account, then sign up for a dollar and use Gold console wide for a month.

There’s a list circulating for a similar Sony sale but it’s unconfirmed and doesn’t indicate what sort of discounts each item will get. I think due to PS Store weirdness their sale doesn’t align with anything close to Friday.
No sale price for Rare Replay. =(
Announcement: I’m gonna be a Dad again! Consider yourselves informed 🙂
Due June 2016 so just enough time to smash through Uncharted 4 and the backlog of AAA’s that just came out.
Daaaaaaaddd!
Second or more?
Yup, Number 2!
You’d think two would be twice the work but somehow it ends up being four times.
Wouldn’t trade it for the world though.
Congrats, bud. 🙂
Although really, if you’re going to be up all night with a newborn, you may as well be gaming 🙂
If wishing made it so! Though, with the first one, I managed to plough through the complete seasons of The Office (US) in the middle of the night, so I’ll need to find a new wife-friendly TV series.
Arrow or the Flash. My wife loves watching them although I don’t think she’s interested in the story or dialogue. Can’t for the life of me figure what she’s so entranced by…
It’s all the…erm..talent.
Solid performances all round. A+

More demos. More hype!
Last night I caught a thing.

Did my first close shift at BWS, thought it was gonna be similar to what I had to do at Dan Murphy’s. Nah, so simple in comparison, turn the lights off, pull the roller doors down, lock them & go home. Someone from Woolies takes care of the till & the next float for the following day for me, best!
@cffndncr the cider is at Mr Falcons in Glebe not spawn.
Ooooooh. Is that the name of the bar on the corner near the school that has a bike hanging in the window? I’ve walked past it many times but have never been in
Uh I’m not sure. I went once it was rising and dark. Don’t go down that way much.
https://amiibochart64.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/amiibo-igcc-v71.jpg
Interesting breakdown. Though it still seems that of the 27 titles listed there, only two use them in an interesting/worthwhile way, with maybe another two or three tops. Then a couple I’m still not sure what they do exactly. Everything else is just random unlocks.
What are the worthwhile ones?
Smash and Tennis, since they actually make use of the NFC stuff in a way that isn’t the equivalent of entering a password, training up an AI pet that you can fight or play againsy. Then Shovel Knight seems like it might be an interesting use case, in that it’s kind of like a memory card you can take around to your friend’s place to save your character’s progression and setup while you play co-op together. I guess the two Animal Crossing games seem like they might do something that is relevant to their game, and Mario Party is kind of the same I guess but I don’t really know what it is it does. Doesn’t seem to be that big a deal. Chibi Robo seems about the same, and Paper Jam isn’t entirely clear on what it does in terms of write functionality.
Think that’s most of them. The rest though, yeah. Basically a physical unlock code for DLC. Which is fine to have as a secondary use, kind of a bonus for if you happen to have such-and-such a figure, perfectly acceptable for unlocking costumes or whatever. But when they lock off game content, like bonus modes or whatever it gets a bit ehhh. Also, it can’t really be a secondary mode unless you have a primary mode. And… yeah. Feels like there’s a severe lack of compelling primary modes.
I’ve now got 6 sets of power armour in Fallout 4.. Stole 2 off the Brotherhood of Steel right off their sir ship thingy & stole another set from the Atom Cats. Neither were none-the-wiser I had taken them either, heh. I don’t really care for using the stuff though. Handy when needing to go somewhere, irradiated however.
I also came across a legendary 10mm pistol that has unlimited ammo. So I pimped it right out to be fully automatic & suppressed, so OP.

I’ll just leave this here
It looks… interesting…
Hatline Miami?
Hotline Mexico?
…I saw this somewhere recently. I don’t know where I saw it. I also don’t recognise that name.
