It’s that time of year again! Pax is almost upon us so, I need to know, Are you coming to pax meat?
Ooh I was wondering when this would come up 😀 What are the details?
Saturday the 5th, 7pm to 1am (or something like that) at Backlot. No price at this point in time
Yes.
Not sure about Mrs Tigs or Tiglet at this stage. Might see if we can get a babysitter but not sure
Alright, just let me know
Yes.
We’re at the exact same place we were at last year due to hugely positive feedback.
We’ll be at the Backlot – 7pm to 1am on the Saturday of PAX.
In terms of pitching in for the costs to book this place, we’ll be providing that a bit later once we get the details more nailed down on that part.
Are we looking at the $35 ballpark again?
Depends on the numbers that say “yes”, really. The more that confirm that they’re coming along, the more the overall cost per person spreads (Meaning less per person), but $35 will be the very most we’ll ask for per person.
No worries, knew it wasn’t all locked down but wasn’t sure if prices were greater than last year or whatever. Also figured a ballpark would be helpful for new people who didn’t make it last year so they know what they are saying yes to
at the moment, we have 15 confirmed and it’s $66 PP. So Invite everyone and tell everyone! Only YOU can make it cheaper =P
Oh good. Mark me down and email through or hit me up on Twitter for where I need to pay for stuff.
That’s not the final price. You can pay on the night, or pay Techie via paypal
Eeeeeyup
Only if someone takes a laptop and a webcam… 🙁
i don’t have those. Maybe someone else will
Yep, count me in.
Really?! Huzzah!
Yes.
Craaaaaap I completely forgot about it or to even think about accommodation.
Is that a yes?
Hi @scree! I’m hoping to be in town for PAX. I’m currently living overseas, but intend to be back in early Nov for a short vacation.
I’ll put you down!
Anyone who has had the PS4 random eject problem stop and watch this:
Turning the screw, removing the button and rubber foot can only be temporary fixes. This is the definitive way to fix that problem. Saved my ass on the weekend. Spread to anyone you know who has had the problem.
@liondrive
Had to put our dog down on Saturday after his gut shut down. It was sad, but he was 18, which has to be some kind record for a fox terrier.
He went blind several years ago, but was chasing the neighbours chickens just last week.
He had a pretty good life.
Aw man that’s sad, sorry to hear! But 18 is a great age for a dog! What kind of dog was he?
Little fox terrier. We had a lab which died at 12, but this little guy kept on truckin’. I think the smaller dogs tend to do better.
I’m thankful that neither of them suffered during their lives, no significant injuries, arthritis, or hip issues.
Sounds like he had a big heart for a little dog. Sorry for your loss
It’s strange when they go blind. You get used to them just needing a little help getting around but ultimately being happy and still themselves. My dog was fine for years just wandering around bumping into things, so it was a bit of a shock when her legs gave out and there was nothing I could do. I felt like I should have been able to make a little adjustment, give her more attention and go on like normal.
I’m sorry for your loss, he sounds like a great little dog.
Whee another week of TAY. How was everyone’s weekend?
I myself had a pretty good weekend, worked both days but that’s alright i’ve been enjoying the money I get from it, ha. Even if I did wake up late Saturday morning >_> did make it to work on time, but still!
Also disappointed the lightning port on my iPhone 6S has become loose to any lightning cable, for something that is only 6 months old pisses me off. Was chatting to the apple bloke at JB about it he said take it back to where I purchased it and ask for a refund and buy an iPhone 7 for the same price, I like his thinking. But i’m not overly sold on the taptic home button on the 7, it doesn’t feel natural unlike the track pad on the 2015 MacBook which feels like a real button when clicked.
Welp, Dogs vs Swans in AFL Grand Final, and Storm vs Sharks in NRL Grand Final.
Go Dogs and Storm!
You have made the correct choices
Swannies! Sharkies!
Apparently I’ve played the original Drysdale Ex for over an hour.
I’ve beaten the tutorial & died twice in the first level.
I think I might like it, but yeah….tune will tell I guess.
Just found out how to set tactics for individuals in Pillars of Eternity after 3 hours. Will cut out a lot of the micromanagement, I will make progress faster now.
Now we play the autocorrect game…
Autocorrect changed Deus to Drysdale?
Yes, & time to tune
One more week til I go back to work hopefully! w00t!
Also, if you haven’t done so yet, check out my new song! (NSFW lyrics)

Let me know what ya think! Share with ur friends! 😀
My weekend was good. Had my brother’s up for the weekend, that included a concert, a distillery, Boardgames and Games night with some outher friends(where my name was decided to be Lionel Cupcake McNef). Then yesterday I took them to the station and spent the rest of the day playing Star Trek online with @Saturday . I am finally Vice Admiral, can’t wait to crack the next rank 😀
Aside from my front yard becoming a bit of a swamp thanks to a clogged drain pipe, my weekend went pretty well. Played some 40K Chaos RPG on Sunday where the players are gearing up to start building a psychic brain tank because a daemon engine is just too dangerous. A friend of mine is potentially looking to start up a Call of Cthulhu game which I really want to get in on but I might end up joining a Star Wars game instead. Too many games, not enough time.
Nothing could possibly go wrong with a psychic brain tank… 🙂
You’ve reminded me that we need to get our gutters cleaned out…
Yeah it’s a nasty sight and smell at the moment so I wouldn’t want anyone else to be in the same spot. Hopefully my body corporate doesn’t drag their feet on this one and gets it cleared before the next rain.
Has anyone bought or sold old dungeons and dragons books recently? Thinking about offloading a bunch of 3.5e books, since we aren’t ever going to play 3.5e again. Looking at prices online, they range from the very cheap ($15 for the entire core set, used), to the obscenely expensive (saw Book of Exalted deeds for GBP55).
Depends on the quality. I would say if you’ve kept them in good condition I reckon you could easily sell them for about $20-30 each. Finding a buyer who wants them is going to be the tricky part.
That’s what I’m expecting, but who is going to buy them? New players? As a DM, I’d point them toward 5e or Pathfinder. Group still playing 3.5e? Might be able to sell a couple of the sourcebooks, but I’d expect any group that’s been playing one edition for 15 years to probably have a pretty big collection. I see them for sale, I just have no idea who’s buying them.
So the weekend was nice.
Went home fairly early on Friday night so we went for a walk and got some Milk for Tiglet and some beer for me. Ended up staying up late (it was after midnight *gasp*) playing far cary 3 and drinking beer. Was nice as I hadn’t done that for a bit.
Saturday morning we decided to go out as the rest of the weekend was meant to be quite wet. Just did some walking and a trip to the cafe. played a chunk of MPQ and otherwise just chilled out at home.
Sunday we took her big ball to the park and did some running around. The the in-laws invited us around for pizza dinner so we went and tiglet had a play with her cousins. Got home and played more space food truck as well as more MPQ. Was ranked 4th in the current round when I went to bed so hoping for a top 10 result.
Just a nice relaxing (mostly) family weekend. How was your weekend, busy or relaxing?
I took Batboy to the drive-in with his cousins to see the pet movie. They didn’t watch that much, and preferred wrestling in the back of the kluger (3 little boys 6, 5 and 4) while my sister and I ate their popcorn 🙂
The discussion we didn’t want to have.
What do you want to happen to Talk Amongst Yourselves? TAY isn’t really the gargantuan beast that it used to be — last week it only got up to two pages in total, which I imagine would be a bit heartbreaking for people who have been around here from the beginning.
I said I’d fire up a chat with everyone before making any changes, and this is that chat. What would you like to see happen? I have some ideas of my own — perhaps converting it into a morning Off Topic, and changing Off Topic on Tuesdays to something else — but I want to see how everyone feels about it before doing anything.
unfortunately, most people have moved to twitter, so you may want to ask on there too
Personally I like TAY, but would like to see it last for maybe 2 weeks rather than 1 week.
Maybe we could trial month long tays?
Or even that!
I’m just a bit concerned that without the Monday morning fresh start to spur people into talking it may get quieter.
We could trial it.
If it stays at this kind of level, I can see that working! It would be a shame to see TAY disappear, given it’s one of the longest running things on this place, but I understand things have to change sometimes.
No! We can never change anything, ever! =P
I think it can become a fortnightly update until at least the end of 2016. The daily Off Topic sounds like a good plan.
I don’t like the idea of doing a daily off topic. I think that would make the problem worse as there is no incentive to have longer conversations if it is just going to be wiped each day.
Leaving it go for a fortnight might make it more useful and have weekend posts be more viable as people can check on Monday and continue the discussion.
The other super important part of tay is as a support network and having somebody be able to post and people who only check occasionally be able to see and offer support is good.
The support network aspect part is what I’m most wary of, since I’d loathe to damage that in any aspect. We’ll see what the response is like at the end of the week, but leaving it up for a fortnight seems like a very reasonable measure so far.
Agreed with tigs, prefer a longer TAY than a daily off topic.
Edit: Giggity, who says size doesn’t matter 😉
I’m with @tigerion on this one. TAY’s purpose for me was always an area where longer-term discussions happen, rather than just the daily stuff. Agree that TAY needs to last longer before it’s reset. Could try fortnightly or even monthly.
Hmmm. What if instead of reposting TAY with the While You Were Sleeping article it went up around 11AM?
The old community awards where Mark would give out promo goodies that had been sent to the office seemed to spur interest in TAY and general discussion. I assume it was dropped because it was too time consuming and expensive to pick the winners and ship everything, but maybe we could brain storm a more practical alternative?
The biggest issue I saw with Kudos is that it was often the same people being rad. Which I guess isn’t an issue.
Also it being weekly was a pain for @markserrels to manage I think? I wonder if it was monthly or something it’d work?
Yeah it’s a bit hard when you’ve already got a community full of good people. Even if you take a bunch of regulars out of the running it’s really hard for anyone to stand out when being good is just sort of how people are in here. Nobody needs an incentive to be nice they just need a reason to post.
I think fortnightly might work better than monthly since it’s purpose would be to promote TAY activity. Even with Alex already reading lots of comments and TAY members reporting good ones to him that’s a fair bit of work just to decide the winners.
Back in the long-long ago when every comment was individually approved, we were lucky to get a second page.
I’d walk a mile in the snow…
Luxury!
I had to post uphill in the snow and if I didn’t post often enough they would beat you with an oar.
…and if you tell the kids of today that…
I think you just saved TAY. To the oar store!
I miss the good ol days of having to refresh every 10 mins to see if there was new replies! As handy as auto moderation is at times, it did its part in keeping me here 😉
I have to shoulder part of the blame for TAY becoming what it did, along with Chuloopa and Qumulys. I don’t think any of us ever expected it to blow out to become what it did 😉
I can’t access Tay at work & doing it on my phone is painful
I can access TAY at work, but would prefer to do it on mobile… But it’s horrendously laggy and glitchy. Right now righting this comment I can type about 20 words before it catches up. Editing when the responsiveness is that bad is just too much work.
Yeah I rarely have time to check it at work when I’m there. Back when I started chatting in here oh so many years ago, I could easily sit in here and check from time to time throughout the day, but my current job is a little too hectic to have that luxury. That’s partly why I haven’t been in here as much, cos when I’d get home, and see like 4+ pages of stuff every day, it was all just a bit too much. Seems much more manageable now 🙂
Yep
How’s things going at your end by the way?
Not too bad thanks! On the mend, and should be heading back to work next week! Had some minor issues last week, but looks like they passed thankfully, so it appears that everything is still on track for the moment 🙂
Awesome news.
A massive TAY recruiting campaign and promotion, involving PAX Meat, half a sausage roll and a party popper.
Also, fortnightly.
The barrier for entry on mobile is getting pretty horendous, which makes it harder to bother checking in more often. I do 99% of my internet browsing on mobile these days.
Access – I just had to scroll through 4 pages of auto load more articles just to find TAY, and I pretty much give up if it’s a weekend since the browser caching gets kinda screwy if I have to go past page 5 / set 1. Maybe a more direct access path like a permanent URL for the current one?
Ads – The ‘Promoted Ads by Taboola’ feel like they’ve multiplied every time I come back (seriously, there’s enough there on this page now to fill my screen 5 times before I get past them), and they always seem pretty obnoxious or irrelevant. Especially annoying is when TAY does get to multi page and I open TAY, select latest page and it loads an ad into the place where I chose ‘Last Page’ and opens the ad link instead of the page. Happens far too often to just be a small chance timing window.
Video ads – part of the way I’d use TAY is to take part in a conversation, then go browse a few articles and keep an eye on the user prompt at the top for replies. Those auto play video ads embedded in the middle of articles are killing that – it’s unnecessary bandwidth burn and it stops any music / audiobook / podcast I’m listening to. While those ads are in play, this is the last site I want to browse, which then means less time in contact with TAY.
I just can’t be bothered dealing with a lot of these issues when Twitter is so immediately accessible these days. Improving the mobile friendliness and ease of use would certainly go a long way to bringing a bit of the old glory back to TAY.
Curious whether this is part of the mobile site or if the full site is bad too? Just wondering because I only have Opera Mini available in terms of mobile browsers that aren’t chuggy as fuck on my phone, and it gives me the desktop page where it’s a fairly painless experience for the most part (though getting replies to stick can be nearly impossible). Though the edit button doesn’t appear for me any more so I need to switch to Mobile to access those, and god damn those taboola link image things are friggen GIGANTIC.
Fired up Cities: Skylines, aka Traffic Simulator 2015, again on the weekend – after a few tries at starting cities, I finally ended up with positive cashflow and can start working towards creating and clearing bottlenecks.
I only ever seem to create bottlenecks… I can easily get positive cash flow, enough to cover the first wave of deaths, but then traffic just becomes a snarl and I burn through stupid amounts of cash trying to fix it… and fail.
The major trick I’ve learnt is to leave lots of room around your major connections so you can upgrade as required. This time around I just put my initial industrial area (that I’ve now gotten rid of, in order to reduce pollution) nearby. Once the population grows, that entire area will be a big interchange.
I’ve seen some great articles by traffic experts on how well C:S does traffic, and that it is actually possible to make it all work – just that 90% of us have NFI what we’re doing.
TAY RPG Pathfinder on tonight at 8pm AEST. Starring:
@redartifice @tech_knight @freezespreston @beeawwb
A pile of gold is on the line as the Monday Knights venture forth to rescue the Valerian Knights from the fae.
I see how it is, you guys start dealing with the fae *after* you get rid of the fae-bloodline sorcerer. 🙁
Yeah that was my bad sorry. Unfortunately fae creatures tend to be pretty darn hard to use early on as they’re more mid-range in their recommended difficulty for adventurers. I still could have thrown you guys into an enchanted forest or something like that and assailed you with pixies so I’m sorry that the opportunity never came up.
I’m not really worried. They’d have just rolled save vs all my spells anyway. 😛
What a tiring weekend. Got a couple hours sleep on Friday night before Wrath of the Machine launched at 3am, and we jumped straight in, with levels ranging from 354 to 367. Absolutely love the aesthetic, the boss fights are awesome, and the mechanics are much better communicated than KF.
We blasted our way through, spending most of our time refining strategy and fine-tuning our coordination, and hit the final encounter around 6:30am. We were all a bit frazzled by that point – I don’t think any of us had got much sleep in preparation for the all-nighter, so we got through the first half of the final boss fight, and spent another hour on figuring out the mechanics of the final fight, before opting to go back with fresh minds and higher light levels – we didn’t have the damage to beat him in our test runs, but I think we could have eked out 50-60% more damage had we been more awake. Five of us did some more practice last night, worked through some strategies, and even made it through a couple of damage cycles (albeit with pretty abysmal damage as we were missing our hunter), so I don’t see any reason why we won’t get it completed tonight or tomorrow, depending on availabilities.
Got my Gjallajalla last night. Also had an epic sesh in Archon’s Forge with @rize and @cakesmith. Went up from 344 to 351. Then realised I had ALL THE MOTES OF LIGHT and spent them in FWC so my Hunter is now themed and is 353 and strike ready. Tonight, STRIKE TIME. And back to my Warlock to finish the quests with her, and maybe Dead Orbit theme her.
So whoever’s up for Daily/Heroic tonight and maaaaybe a nitefail, hit me up.
Went into the weekend with aspirations of finalising preparations for a Pathfinder session I’m running next weekend… got as far as procuring some extra dice before I got lost in Sunless Sea and Longmire.
Did you see that Failbetter announced a follow-up to Sunless Sea called Sunless Sky? I’m assuming airships will be involved.
Yeah, a bit excited, even if it turns out to be a repaint of Sea with airboats and slightly different mechanics; something about “a whole new woooorld…”
In the meantime though, trying in vain to catch up before Zubmariner is released.
Howdy folks. Who’s going to be at EB Expo this weekend? I’ll be going just on the saturday, and mostly just to go to the esports arena and play some Smash Bros. But I’ll have a wander around too and check out Nintendo stuff (not Breath of the Wild unfortunately since I didn’t even enter the contest) and hopefully PSVR.
Things scree is currently doing:
-Organising Pax meat
-Working on Callie Cosplay
-Working on Stained glass Zenyatta poster
-Organising Mum’s appointments and taking her to them. (there is a lot in October)
-Drawing dogs with overwatch character clothes on them
-Writing the visual novel script
-Playing overwatch
And I’m still getting new ideas. I hate being so creative sometimes.
ooooh I have to see this Callie cosplay once it’s done 😀
If it gets done in time. D=
Neat. Woke up to an email from the Metallica store telling me the band have released another song from their new album and there was a digital download waiting for me! Not a bad song at all to be honest!
Welp, no dice last night… tho we did get two more runs of the raid up to the final encounter. First run we had 4 hunters, and basically chained tethers the entire raid; second run we had 4 titans… And holy crap, striker titan with Dunemarchers, Memory of Jolder, Juggernaught and the raid shotgun (“quantiplasm~”)… overpowered as hell. The speed!
Dunemarchers basically up your sprint speed to equal the average titan-skate (and doubles your turning sensitivity), Jolder removes the sprint cooldown so you’ll never stop running, Juggernaught to give you extra armour while charging at an enemy, and the raid shotgun with gives you even more speed and armour on a kill.Apart from one or two sections where I had to swap to a sniper rifle, I ran that setup for every encounter… This is why striker titans seem stupid – they’re just having way too much fun to worry about being effective. 😛
Might start my Titan this week…
Also, Memory of Jolder with hunter is fun. I’m tweaking her, reckon there must be a way to make her more absurd. It probably involves Bladedancer. *scratch head* 🙂
Played a lot of WoW over the weekend. Finally leveled up to the Legion content… and I think it sucks. 🙁 Right from the horrible instanced bullshit it’s just been a litany of corpse runs for me, usually caused by the combination of mobs taking a million fucking years to kill combined with the super-fast respawn rate on everything due to all the areas being chock-full of players. The areas themselves are incredibly poorly designed, and the progression loves to lead you into dead-end quests or send you to places that there’s no obvious path to get to, and what path there is usually takes you through areas filled with hyper-aggressive mobs that have insane aggro ranges (it feels like they aggro as if they’re level 110 and you’re much lower level).
The actual plotlines and quest design is generally fine, but it feels like it’s been layered over area and mob design that’s straight out of 2005.
Swapped over to tanking spec to try and get the tanking artifact, having not played Protection Paladin since they completely fucked it and made it incredibly unfun to play in Cataclysm, and proceeded to die horribly while getting said artifact. Plays even worse than it used to. Far too many things to keep track of, cooldown-heavy and just generally feels like shit. I want to pay attention to what’s happening around me, not have to stare at my bars. May just need a little practice, but it felt like the NPC healer was too busy DPSing shit to bother healing me.
Hey, I’m working from home… having a pantry full of snacks available is very, very, very bad. Also, it’s cold today… WTF spring. Where’d you go?
Ha awesome. We had an empty set of shelves at work today (we were using it for stuff that was on clearance) and the boss wasn’t sure what to display there, I made the suggestion that we put the Lindemans wine that are on special atm 6 for $30 there since there 5 shelves & we had the 5 varieties. So I did up a nice display & it’s noticeable as you walk in from either entrance. And just after I left he sent me a text with a copy of a receipt selling a few dozen to one person, so I guess that worked 😛
Have to say, I’m pretty stoked about this! 😀
https://twitter.com/_MCWho_/status/780644387873185792
ugh.. doublepost.
So zonked, I think I will have a beer when i get home
Well i’ve just committed to this new computer. Got paid tonight so I bought the motherboard (Skylake Z170), RAM (16GB Kingston) & the SSD (Intel 600P NVME).
Next week i’ll buy the CPU (i5 6600K), PSU (Silverstone SFX 500W), CPU cooler (NZXT Kraken X31) & the optical drive (a slot load Silverstone job). Then shortly after i’ll need is the secondary drive (going with a 960GB/1TB SSD) & a GTX 1070. Then at some point i’ll be getting a new main monitor (i’m thinking 1440P) + some kind of dual monitor stand.
Nice little setup, that. What’s going to be the first game you fire up?
Probably WoW 😛 But when I get the new GPU probably GTA V. Just to see it maxed out in all its glory.
Nice specs mate. now the fun of putting it all together…….
Thanks 😀 Yeah always fun building computers! At least this time i’m going mATX. I was going to go mITX but after my HTPC and realising how big my hands are it just wasn’t gonna work 😛
ha ha yup. I always go for ATX, the Mrs is always asking why my PC cases are so big…….!
I have built a few budget/family/lounge room PC’s for family members and friends recently in smaller cases and I must say that the manufacturers have done well to reduce the sharpies on most newer model cases, still gained a few scars though.
stupid fat hands !!!
Haha. I’m all about foot print since I don’t have a heap of room to play with. My Antec 902 takes up more space than i’m happy with, the new case I got (Silverstone Fortress FT03) will take up about a 1/3 the same space ha, and I should be able to work in it comfortably!
PICTURES AND BENCHMARKS. 🙂
Haha, they’ll come slowly. I’ll probably post pictures to my Instagram
Well shit.
Max Walker has passed away. 🙁
And without getting that commentary team gig he always wanted, too. 😛
@pupp3tmast3r
Looking the progression race seems the current order guilds are using are Nyth>Elerenthe>Ursoc>Dragons Of Nightmare>Il’Gynoth.
I suppose the coordination needed with Mythic Il’gynoth takes some time to master. you keeping watch on the race atall?
Edit: also guild average of 865+… they must of used a ton of alts with keystones to pull that of.
Yeah makes sense, with Mythic mechanics Ursoc seems more punishing than Elerethe. And keystones are capped at 850 this first week wind so its not likely they used mythic keystone farming alone to get to 865.
the cap was only for base levels right? pretty sure titanforging still offered higher.
yeah if you got forged procs you could get higher ilvl gear but the gear from the end of a mythic + the chest was capped at 850 at base.
✓ Wrath of the Machine.

What an amazing boss fight, when everything goes right. Did an initial run up to the final boss on our mains, then did a flawless (-ish – had the occasional death, but we never wiped) run on alts to the same point in about 45 minutes. We decided to give the final boss another go on our mains after that warm-up, and got really close once, but missed out on a couple of damage cycles due to screwing up jumps. A couple of false starts later, everything went smoothly, and we got him down to a sliver of health, and just madly unloaded everything we had left. It’s not as mechanically complex as Oryx, and with a slightly larger margin for error – no pressure on any one individual, rather shared across three people at any one time. But a vastly harder DPS check, and more complex communication was required to make sure people were where they needed to be. Composition was one nightstalker, one defender, two stormcallers and two voidwalkers, averaging around 374L.Gonna be a bit behind on this I think, but the Other Crew (josh, j, alex, pearl and me, plus whoever we can grab) are hoping to have a cold Raid run together in another week if we can all get up to mid 360s, just to have a look around and see how far we get. Probably won’t have a real chance at it for another month though.
360 is plenty high enough to get to the final room, and 365 would get you past that encounter to the final boss. When my team first went in, we were mostly hovering around 360 +/-2 (having expected the raid to be set at 360, not 370), and we got to the final boss encounter without too much difficulty. It’s worth attempting, even if you only get the first 1-2 encounters – the drops will give a nice bump to your light level.
That’s the plan. If we can get to the first chest or two with a couple of characters, that’ll bump us for the following week. 🙂
I think all chests guarantee a legendary engram or an exotic, which will likely be upgrades for you either way.
I reckon a team of 355s could get in the door and beat the first boss, which means two exotic chests and potentially double drops from the first boss if you open his chest with a Cache Key.
Besides, you’ll all probably have Gjallarhorns and be able to rely on that or Sleeper Simulant or Black Spindle for damage if need be – Gjally still hits twice as hard as any other rocket in the game, Sleeper’s crits can out-damage Gjally; and last time I checked the numbers, if you can consistently keep your crit-chain, Spindle beats even Sleeper for overall damage by about 30%.…if I had a Spindle… Is it still available? :-/ I guess the year two stories will come back on rotation eventually.
It’s available via the heroic version of the story mission nowadays – no need to wait for it to be the daily, just change the difficulty. Let me know if you need help with it – I don’t know what level the hard version is set at these days, but I’d guess 350, which might get a bit insane.
Sleeper’s my go-to damage dealer for this raid, I think, with a Devil’s Dawn (the sniper from Sepiks Perfected’s chest) as backup – even if Spindle has a higher damage ceiling, Sleeper has much higher aim assist, so I get more consistent damage with Sleeper. Plus, with exotic boots with +heavy ammo, it can hold 14 shots, more than enough for most purposes.
Ah, that’s sensible. Nightstalker useful for dealing with the adds and those void witches?
Hopefully the difficulty’s not tooooo high, but if I can get to 360 then might give it a go.
My group made it to final encounter as mostly 360-370s, with myself on 339 and another on 340-something. Last boss is a brutal dps check, though.
Good to know. Might see if my weak-as crew want a go at the weekend.
Agreed. On our first run, our lowest by then was 354… tackling it with everyone close to 370 made things much more manageable. Can’t imagine how it would have been at 340… Congrats on getting that far.
Tuesday Destiny reset.
Went into a Weekly Strike with a 344, a 349 and a 353. It was Sepiks Perfected, and it was HARD until we realised how under powered we were as a team and backed right off and played very cautiously. Most stuff was one-shotting us, even dreg headshot seekers. :-/ Still the final battle was fun, needed real teamwork, covering our exits, and judicious use of smoke grenade by my Hunter to get the cannon that takes out Sepiks’ shield. Only wiped twice in the refinery, and not at all after that.
Then I switched and continued working on my Warlock. Dived into Archon’s Forge, had a good run, did a bunch of other stuff, got all the Khostov rifle part – will do the final mission tonight), and Dead Orbit themed her (although she’s still using a FWC scout rifle for now as it’s the highest light weapon I have). 348 up to 353.
Will get the Khostov tonight. 🙂
Also FOUR DAY WEEKEND. FOOOOUUUURRRRR DAAAAAAAYYYY WEEEEEEKKKEEEENNNNNDDDDD. *goes full Kermit*
That Khvostov boss can be a doozy… Not sure if it was because we did that mission as a team of three, but he absolutely wrecked us. I noticed the Iron Tomb bosses are much easier solo, so maybe Bungie did some tweaking to boss health scaling with RoI…
Ah, yeah. That makes sense.
Hi guys – quick question:
Gaming keyboard – are they really any different?
So a little while ago i won a Logitech G910 Keyboard, which i was super-excited about at the time.
I played a couple of games with it, and really found it to be no different for gaming (in my experience). Plus it was harder to type on than my $20 keyboard from coles.
So, being that i primarily use my laptop with my much-lighter cheap keyboard most of the time, is there any benefit to me sticking with the G910, or is it just all marketing spin like i see a lot of people saying.
The reason i ask is because i’m seriously considering selling it, seeing at the rrp is like $200, as the extra money would be really handy for when PAX rolls around.
If you don’t use the extra features like profiles and stuff, and you don’t find it’s any different to actually game with, then yeah. Sell it.
And see you at PAX. 🙂
Thanks for chiming in.
And shit yeah! my favorite weekend of the year!
Also, be sure to come cheer me on at the Omegathon – I need all the support i can get
No worries. 🙂 I have a G510S that I quite like for the macros, the customisable backlight (it’s Elite: Dangerous orange to match my general theme…) and the little screen for RSS, clock, CPU/RAM etc. The font on the screen caps is awful though. 🙂
OK, I shall do that. I’ve got half a chance of finding everyone this year now I’ve met quite a few of us.
If it helps I’ll be in N7 armour (which I NEED TO FINISH) Friday and Bloodborne getup Saturday
I hope to be as Callie. Fingers crossed
You are my favourite cosplayer on the Citadel.
I’ll recognise nearly everyone I met last year, although I may be a little hazy on names.
You should bring the Loopling for support.
Not just because she is so cute and adorable that I want to meet her, ummm, it is for the support
not this year, my friend. That’s still in the “too hard basket”.
I do everything with my wife and my little girl – Pax is my 3 days of me time in the year. Plus she is a wriggle worm, so won’t last long there at all.
Pansy.
Although with you being a god damn Omeganaut it is understandable and what I expected. Wouldn’t really be fair to Bee to leave here alone somewhere she doesn’t want to be with a toddler running rampant.
And time for you is damn important, I don’t get that at PAX as my wife would kill me if I tried to leave her at home so good on you for taking it.
i normally get shot – but it’s my one get-out-of-jail-free card haha.
I will definately be taking Heidi when she is a bit older, though
I brought a pretty fancy mechanical keyboard a while back and it’s not that different from the cheap Microsoft keyboards I put on mum’s computer. I’m 100% on board with ultra comfy gaming mice for every day use but keyboards don’t seem bring much more to the table than higher quality buttons.
Honestly the only things that give it a significant advantage of the competition are the volume knob and USB 3.0 ports. I think with keyboards it’s all about the practical features like that.
Yeah – have a high-end gaming mouse which i scored from cashies for $20 which is AMAZING. I can REALLY feel the difference on that… but, yeah, the keyboard has been a bit “meh”
Good to know i’m not the only one
Unless you really like macros the only really important thing with keyboards is comfort and ergonomics imo.
I wouldn’t even know how to macro, so yeah, not important
Grabbed a backlit years (and years) ago; didn’t care about macros or profiles or other technical specs, just wanted to be able to see in the dark.
They can be quite useful if you’ve got a purpose in mind. If that purpose is typing comfortably and well, sell that paperweight and embrace cheap functionality.
So. Had a waste of a weekend, mild outpourage or verbal diarrhoea to Wingman, but that seems to have set me back on track again. Been getting to bed at a reasonable hour, haven’t quite managed to have a complete night’s sleep (though last night I only woke one extra time, as opposed to the five times the night before) and have actually been getting stuff done throughout the day. Also thanks in part to just staying away from the PC for the first half of the day, and keeping Discord closed until night time.
Between all my forums shutting down and TAY getting quieter, it seems like it’s getting easier to (finally?) remove myself from my computer. Silver lining? >_>
Got invited around to my friend’s place for dinner tonight, woo free meal 😛 Still got a few leftovers waiting in the freezer though, otherwise most about-to-expire food from the fridge has been dealt with aside from a few slices of bread that will need to get used up soon. May have to do some actual cooking before everyone gets home this time 😛
Bread > freezer.
Nah I think the freezer is better.
@distantdrop Ok so looks like I might need you to tank from this Sunday to next Sunday, our prot was travelling for work but he figured he’d get access to the internet and a laptop to keep raiding but just been advised today morning not going to be the case. Are you able to get some practice time in BM over the weekend before Sunday’s normal raid?
When I mean’t practice beforehand I mean’t with tanking in a raid setting, honestly I’ve probably tanked more than dps’d when it comes to dungeons.
I suppose I have to do a little more reading and dump whatever AP I find over the weekend on BrM, however with normal I don’t envision a whole lot of issues.
mm on Normal you’ll need to keep clean swaps on all the bosses we have on farm so far, aside from that doesn’t seem to be much else to be worried about. However next week you’ll need to tank Heroic Nyth/Ursoc and possibly Dragons of Nightmare as well. While Nyth/Dragons are easy on the swaps and tanking you’ll need to practice the swaps & positioning for Ursoc, they are very frequent.
May be relevant to a few folks here (@rocketman ? @f4ction ? Others?), the latest Humble Book Bundle has a bunch of stuff around gadgetry building eg 3D printing, robotics, DSP, raspberry pi, arduino, even a book on CNC stuff (shapeoko etc):
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/make-fan-favs-and-digital-debuts
@pupp3tmast3r
afaik I should be right to raid tonight. Shall have to catch up with you beforehand re strat details discussed last night.
Didn’t miss much, basically save your Ironbark for one of the tanks once the bear enrages.
No worries. Do you want me to modify any talents? Pickup Cenarion Ward or improved Ironbark?
I thought about it but the fights too short and the biggest hurdle is aoe heals, so stay as you are.
@pupp3tmast3r
Looks like one guild is now on Xavius, time to see if it is a 500 wipe fight.
Should take roughly under a week to reach that cap.
Edit: Also did Ascension die? 3/7 heroic seems pretty dead for a rank 1 realm guild.
@pupp3tmast3r and his down… killed in less than 3 hours.
Disappointing really.
Ok maybe I’m playing this game wrong but what exactly do you have left to do if you get 7/7M in the first week? What do you even aspire to? Like what the hell do you log on for? Min/maxing your gear? I’m already looking at how we can phase out normal given how quickly we smashed through it and just focus our time on heroic.
Knowing these players… probably prepping alts for Suramar Palace and raid carry gold farm runs.. the grind never ends.
*gets dragged kicking and screaming onto social media*
What are these bubbles? How do I turn those off? Where’s the settings menu? The icon that looks like a list of options? Nope, that’s “add new contacts”. On the “one person icon” page… “Profile”, I guess. So the “two people icon” page would be “existing contacts”? Nope, group conversations. Oookay… so, back to learning a new language: one person = me, two people = everyone else in groups of more than two, lines = people I don’t know, house = people I’m talking to, phone = real time audio/video communication.
Ugh… their UI design is as internally inconsistent as English, without the excuse of five centuries of bastardisation.
Guys, I’m famous.
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/09/we-spent-a-day-fighting-zombies-with-nerf-guns/
4th photo from the bottom, see that sucker with a Maverick on the stairs at the bottom left, second from being over-run by the zombie plague?
Yeah, that’s right. I’ll be here all day if anyone wants signatures.
^Who’s this guy again?
😛
I’ve gone back to lurking, but I’ve been around… watching you… waiting…
How you been, frond?
The one standing next to what appears to be a bear?
It was actually a dude in a full gillie suit…
… which wasn’t particularly handy standing in the middle of the stairs like that. When I saw him at the start of the day I assumed he’d spend the day hiding in a bush somewhere.
Aw what my upvoting privileges have been removed too? I hate this stupid moderation system.
Apparently posting more dug me out of it. I don’t get it.
They reward tenacity.
@pupp3tmast3r
Just a heads up; another storm warning has been issued. Might want a backup healer in the pipe if everything gets knocked out again.
Wow, this Bridge Climb bag has been sitting on my desk for so long it’s just decayed into flaky crap. Smells like crayon.
HAHAHA WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THESE LONG POINTY SIDEBURNS IN THESE PHOTOS
I have no idea what’s going on there. I don’t remember this at all.
*Dusts off TAY*
Oh wow *cough* i know that it was quiet in here but damn!
How’s life TAY?
I’m doing fantastic lately, work is picking up, life quality is going up. Things are rather fantastic.
Even splurged and took a week off just for myself \o/
God i’m excited for that!
Oh right, gaming things.
Well,
Completed Bloodborne (10/7 perfect score, favourite game), Started NG+ straight away.
Started playing Dark Souls 3, and slowly getting used to the slower combat again. Great game, but feel it’s slightly outshined by Bloodborne.
I might be a bit obsessed with that game. Lore Hunting is a LOT of fun!
and the whole dream/real world/nightmare thing they got going on is mind-bending and awesome!
Elite Dangerous is still a thing that happens. So is No Man’s Sky. and Guild Wars 2. And-… why do I keep buying/playing games that require 100’s of hours of time investment? 😛
How is everyone else going? EXCITED FOR PAX?
Who’s this Mustela?
Nutella?
Thanks!
Welcome!
Also the obvious joke there is that NMS only really requires one or two hours’ investment 😛
Ye-yeah, I definitely did not burn 6 hours in it on Sunday 😛
To be fair, despite all the criticism i love the crap out of that game!
I understand the opposite side, but every time I jump in I don’t care 😛
I got 50 hours in before I had to cut myself off – not because of the game or anything (although I was starting to grind a bit on the one planet to try and max out my ship because there was a particular design to be found there which I didn’t want to lose >_>) but because I really had to go and do other things with my time 😛
I’m definitely in the minority but I love it for the relaxation aspect.
It’s a casual Sunday Morning game where I can just chill, explorer a planet and noodle around.
Plus, every update they’ve thrown out for the PS4 has made the experience increasingly more enjoyable (performance, draw distance etc) so yeah. It’s not perfect but it’s something I enjoy.
\o/
Just started in on some Linguistic Archeology. Japanese geographical words are turning out to be interesting.
Ka phonetic shows up in the words for barrier, tomb, and tavern. Sa phonetic shows up in word for tavern and fortress. As maps go I’m looking at a tomb located near a section of the great wall of china (old enough to not be brick) and there is a fortress further a field that shares access to the tavern.
Aparently when words are first created the creators of those words had a specific location in mind. Just need to identify fortresses near the great wall with a tomb and tavern.
Sorry! I was fighting with an invisible zip yesterday so I wasn’t able to post.
I’ve also started drawing the overwatch characters as dogs. It’s a bit of a drawing exercise, bit of a money making venture (bookmarks anyone? =P)
I hope to post photos of the dogs, the cosplay and hopefully of Zenyatta soon. if I can finish the bastard that is.
Scree didn’t they teach you to make zips visible before you engage in combat?!?
isn’t that an FF rule =P
It’s a life lesson scree, never engage an invisible enemy! Also stop playing with your zippers.
I have no intention to play with them. It’s so frustrating

Hi team.
Are these much chop? I need a headset ASAP and these seem to be a fair option.
Thanks.
I can’t recommend these enough:
https://www.pccasegear.com/products/30760/kingston-hyperx-cloud-ii-gaming-headset-red/
Best damn cans i’ve ever owned. One of the few that doesn’t make me feel like they’re trying to pop my head like a pimple
I have turtlebeach x12, because they’re a few of the only ones that fit my tiny head
I would counter with these:
https://www.pccasegear.com/products/24336/audio-technica-ath-a500x-dynamic-audiophile-headphones
or anything in the ATH-A series with a standalone mic. More than 7 years on and this setup is yet to fail me.
Reading the comments section for the Star Citizen article, I wish I could’ve started a finance firm with those kind of backers. They would’ve made an amazing case study for why we need regulators.
\o/ my SSD, Motherboard & RAM arrived today. These M.2 NVME drives are so tiny! But sadly the catch on the x16 PCI-E slot is broken :/
Tiny SSD
I know right?! That cost me $240 most expensive storage medium i’ve every bought. Worth it though for the 512GB of NVME speed.
I was going to get an SSD but my PC starts up really fast anyway, so there’s not much point.
They’re so nice though 😛 My PC starts up and usable in about 20 seconds haha.
I think mine’s about 30 seconds
Baw, one of the rubbers on my pinnie is disintegrating.
AW MAN
My 8250’s screen has pooped itself. Has leaky blackness on it, out of nowhere 🙁
Also the battery is swollen. 6100 still seems fine though.
Damn I miss the candybar form factor in phones. So light and small and just easy to handle.
Please don’t use any device with a swollen battery D=
My iPhone is a candy bar shape. Well more a block of chocolate but still! 😛
Nah it’ll be fine it’s a Nokia they’re indestructible right? 😛
Not the batteries D=
Dragon Quest VII is so great.
Dropped 20 hours into it.
Opened up the vocations at 15.
It’s great!!
Given you’re a Vita fan, my mate Alphawolf either has, or is going to release Slain: Back from Hell for Vita! If you like hard platform kinda games, give it a look 🙂
Hmmmmm, I will.
SO HYPE!
Going to see Frenzal on Sunday, and Local Resident Failure are playing acoustic upstairs on the same night! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Hooray for a public holiday! 😀
Yes
That’s on Monday you silly Victorian 😛
It’s bloody wet here, but all is OK.
@jocon coping with the water?
Yeah all good. Wet as you say but no problems.
Thankfully the wind was blowing from behind my house so all the branches that flew off the gums out the front went across the street instead of through my windows.
Started the quest for the raid exotic last night… what a cool puzzle, just to unlock the quest chain. Especially unlocking the fifth monitor – it’s basically a randomised version of Golgoroth’s cellar puzzle, except the solution’s randomly generated and shown on two in-game monitors in a separate room. There’s also a guaranteed exotic from the chest in there, so we might be doing that puzzle on every run from now on.
I’m a bit disappointed my team just wanted to use guides for the intermediary puzzles, tho… but I guess math isn’t everyone’s idea of fun. Have to run the raid once more, then solve one more set of equations, and I get my glowy red pulse rifle.
We got enough people together to have a raid. Only one person in the team had done it before, and he’d been shepherded through by a bunch of high-level raid-monsters, so only had the vaguest idea of what was going on. So, 364, 4 around 349-353 and one 339.
Phase one: we ran around like crazed ants for a bit, before we worked out one person could defend each charge point and 3 could continue running round like crazed ants and charge the centre point (I suspect charge won’t be shared in Hard Mode…), and if the guard of the left and right charge points had good bomb aim and the other 4 wail on the priest with gjallys it’s quite doable. So after about 10 minutes of just working out what was going on, we took about another 10 to start getting a rhythm and then we were doing actual damage and got rid of the priest. Woop. Nothing special from the chest. Then we faffed about exploring for a while and fell off a lot.Phase two: OMG. We were woefully unprepared for that. I was a bomb chucker and did hit the target consistently but we were just getting massacred by the adds and too busy trying to stay alive to shoot the tellies. Had maybe 6 or 7 goes before we all agreed we’d go back to strikes and get those light levels up a bit. 🙂It’s promising so far!
Okay one for all the dads out there. My fiance is pregnant and I honestly couldn’t be more thrilled, however I have all these thoughts running through my head. Am I going to be a good dad? etc etc.
I’m after advice on how to deal with the thoughts and just praying I’ll get through the next few months and adjust to the thought of being a dad in May/June next year
Congratulations – that’s exciting news 🙂
I am a mum, so I can’t speak for the other dads, but what you are feeling is 100% normal! A baby is a really big life change, if you weren’t anxious I’d be worried. The important thing is to talk about it. Talk to each other, talk to health professionals, talk to your friends who are parents.
Don’t spend time on parenting forums or fb groups. Those places are toxic.
If you can, try and attend a parenting class – these are quite different to a birthing class, and you’ll find the information MUCH more valuable in the long term. Not that a birthing plan isn’t important, but learning about feeding and nappies and sleeping is going to take up a lot more of your time – getting some skills in before bub arrives is a good idea, and will help the two of you get on the same page.
And there’s plenty of really good advice if you look in the right places. For help with dealing with the strong emotions of becoming a dad, have a look at https://healthyfamilies.beyondblue.org.au/pregnancy-and-new-parents/dadvice-for-new-dads
OK first things first, you are worried about being a good dad which means you will be a great dad.
Becoming a dad isn’t scary as hell but when it all boils down there isn’t much too it. Support your partner and do what you need to for the little one.
Seems super early to be announcing things so I’m guessing you have just found out and are freaking out a bit. All normal, your life is about to be turned upside down and things will never be the same again. But I would like to pass on one thing that Dads of TAY told me when we were expecting our first.
It is worth it
You are going to get so many comments about no sleep and explosive nappies and no sex and all the stress and the associated stuff but that small thing is often forgotten. So very important to remember that this is all worth it.
As for the next few months my advice would be to just relax and enjoy being with your partner. Make sure she knows that you are happy. She is likely going through similar thoughts and you don’t want to compound that with her thinking that you don’t want to be a dad. There will be plenty of time for getting stuff ready, you don’t really need to worry about that to much now.
If you have questions or thoughts happy to provide what advice I can but for now
Congratulations.
Yay Umart said I can return my broken motherboard and swap it out for a Gigabyte Z170MX G1 Gaming Motherboard. I should’ve picked this motherboard in the beginning honestly.
wait where did September go come back I’m not done with you yet
I forgot to put some money in my savings account last month, so there’s a free three dollars I missed out on. This is the worst part of months disappearing.
Meanwhile, in Canada;
Nothing.
Nothing is happening.
I assume your PM is still being handsome and cool. That’s something.
Eh?
Will and Kate and the kidlets just visited – that’s something 🙂
Considering the bullshit going on with the US election cycle, I’d take nothing any day.
Welp, no new TAY until tomorrow…
Also, damn it, Storm… -_-
Did you watch the game
Between DST changes and getting Tiglet down I missed it.
Seems like it was probably another great game.
It was magnificent – such a close, low scoring game. Cronulla threw everything at Melbourne and they flinched.
Up Up Cronulla!
I had expected it to be an afternoon game so when it was later it messed my plans and I missed it.
As much as I would have liked Storm to get up, having the 2 underdog teams break massive droughts on the same weekend makes a much better story.
Are you a cronulla fan full time or just for that weekend?
Definitely just on the bandwagon for the gf. Anyone But Melbourne. We are (ahem) a Sea Eagles family, but Batboy likes sharks, so therefore he also likes The Sharks. But we were very disappointed when the Raiders lost, that was a real shame.
I agree with you, the Festival of the Underdog made for a wonderful weekend of football watching.
I’ve decided on these part for my new PC, apart from the GTX 1070 & the secondary SSD i’ll probably be buying the rest of the parts this week, if not next week cause I scored some awesome hours at work this week including today’s public holiday.
It’s looking a lot like I’ve got a rebuild of my PC on my hands too – having random, complete system lockups that didn’t go away when I flattened and reinstalled Windows. 🙁 What appeals about that Motherboard specifically? Just curious. I’m eyeing the MSI Z170A SLI Plus personally as it’s pretty cheap but well-featured (and hasn’t got fucking Killer networking bullshit like most MSI boards). I was hoping I could hold off for long enough for the Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSDs to trickle out but I’m pretty sure there’s a hardware fault somewhere. 🙁
EDIT: Also, regarding your choice of SSD, I strongly suggest you look up some reviews on the 600P. Its performance isn’t very good, but most importantly it has extremely low reliability – Intel only warrant them for 72 terabyte write cycles (sounds like a lot, but isn’t) and after it hits that amount the drive apparently will lock down to being read-only forever. For contrast, Samsung warranted the 850 Evo for 300 TBW.
Re: motherboard, there’s not a lot of mATX motherboards out there in the Z170 range that have features for the price i’ve come to the conclusion. The original board I got (ASRock Z170M Pro4S) was okay, but lacked a lot of decent things. I’ve seen a lot of that gigabyte board of late and it’s all been positive. Sure it’d be better to see the Intel NIC in it rather than the Killer shit, but ah well.
Re: SSD, I haven’t seen anything bad about these yet. If it fails, it fails & i’ll go to another brand. Probably not Samsung, as great as they are the 950 series gets way too hot to the point they thermal throttle. I’ve seen people putting heatsinks on them to combat this but I don’t see that as a fix. It shouldn’t be up to the user to fix an issue Samsung need to address.
If you haven’t seen anything bad about the 600P you haven’t looked enough, seriously. Most important thing is that it’s not taking any advantage of the NVMe interface, it’s no faster than a SATA III M.2 drive, but it costs the same or more and has that issue of having a ridiculously short lifespan and built-in forced obsolescence. I was looking at getting one but that last part is a dealbreaker for me personally.
The 960 Evo & Pro is out this month and AFAIK they fixed the heat issue. Also the 960 Evo should be priced just a bit more than the 600P but utterly smokes it in performance (it seems to be benchmarking similar to the 950 Pro)
Speed is something that i’m not too worried about at this point. My current system’s SSD (an OCZ Agility 3) boots to a usable desktop in under 20 seconds & is still extremely snappy for every day use. Also considering the current market for this style of M.2 there’s only another 2 options out there from what I can tell that PCCG or Umart sell and that’s the 950 from Samsung or the HyperX Predator from Kingston. Also the Intel drive has a 5 year warranty, I can’t see me keeping it for that long honestly.
BTW the 850 Evo’s only have a 75TBW warranty not 300 as you claimed :/
You’re right, I was looking at the specs for the 850 Pro. Evo was 75 for 120 & 250gb, 150 for 512 & 1tb, 300 for 2tb. The 950 and 960 is much higher.
Intel 600P is 70 regardless of size which is bullshit if you’ve got a 512gb or bigger.
Samsung also don’t fucking lock down and become unusable after that amount of cycles. Also while the Intel warranty is 5 years, hitting the TBW value voids the warranty.
On the performance thing:
http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Storage/Intel-SSD-600p-Series-256GB-Full-Review-Low-Cost-M2-NVMe/Sequential-Performance-HDTa
Take a look at the 600P struggling to compete against a fucking WD Velociraptor 10,000RPM SATA drive because the cache on the thing is piddly and it’s not being used correctly 🙁
My desktop went haywire when the initial ‘anniversary’ update rolled through.
Locks at loading dots under Win10 icon, then screen loses input but fans still spinning. Can’t even rebuild from media creation USB on any drive.
The Win10 update is probably just a coincidence though. Putting it down to my motherboard finally shitting the bed (it is 5 years old) or my PSU playing up.
So jumped on a well priced ASUS H170 Pro board ($120AUD) to start building around. Will likely have to make the call to Microsoft to reactivate Win10… see if they’re still as lenient as they were.
Anniversary Update freezes at boot are actually a known issue which should already have been fixed with the last update – if you still have that setup, try booting in safe mode and installing windows updates. The problem seemed to be an out of date AHCI driver.
I have a freezing problem with the Redstone update too, but in my case it happens after the machine’s been on for hours and is some kind of system halt while not actually killing all the system – still responds to the cursor but can’t do anything. Very frustrating. Tried the last roll of the dice last night and updated the firmware on my old SSD in case it’s some kind of issue there (I know the Samsung 840 Evo had issues with areas on the SSD going bad over time which Firmware fixed)
Thing is it won’t even get far enough to trigger whatever prompts for safe mode. I googled looking around for a way to force safe mode but everything required windows to load to a semi-functional state first.
Also, I’m how am I meant to get the update if I can’t boot in? Or is it a case of creating a new bookable USB?
Used to be that Shift-F8 booted you into safe mode but that went away with UEFI 🙁
You could try putting Win10 installer on a USB on another machine. That’ll let you boot into recovery mode usually. Or just create a recovery USB:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/3a747883-b706-43a5-a286-9e98f886d490/create-a-recovery-drive
That might be able to fix any obvious problems off the bat, or at least let you roll back to Win10 Threshold 2 instead of Redstone (Anniversary Update) so you can get your PC back.
Well, shit. Looks like Nonno’s gone, as of a couple of hours ago. That’s just… bleh.
🙁 I’m sorry to hear that.
Sorry to hear man. Loosing a grandparent always sucks. Lost both of dads parents within a week of each other. Whilst it sucked it was also a blessing.
Yeah, my dad and uncle have been spending so much time over there looking after him and stressing out over it all, it’ll be good for them to finally be free of all that. Although the timing wasn’t so great, with Dad being overseas atm. Will kinda put a bummer on things til they get back on the weekend.
Sorry to hear that gooky :\ it’s never easy losing loved ones.
Sorry to hear that man, having gone through that recently, it sucks. DM me on twitter if you want to talk.
Ended up having a bit of a mindpurge to Wingman last night after I got home, that seems to have flushed all the swirling thoughts and such. Cheers though.
*hugs* Sorry to hear that mr
Sympathy upvote
Luke Cage was pretty great. Fantastic use of music.
Good messages.
I enjoyed it immensely.
Being a huge fan of the character and the other netflix marvel series I felt like this series was the weakest in the chain. The villains felt two dimensional and I half expected diamondback to grow a mustache and tie a girl to a railway track cackling madly. Compared to the Kingpin and Purple Man by far the weakest performance/script.
Agree the high points were the music and the actor for Luke Cage was pretty spot on but that said I loved him in Jones as well.
@negativezero
While I agree that the villains weren’t overall as well done as Kingpin or Purpleman, I preferred the ensemble.
Diamondback certainly was too over the top for the tone of the story but the cousins’ back stories & performances were interesting & well done.
Kingpin overshadows all other villains in DD & Purpleman was far too involved in EVERY little detail of JJ that it became unrealistic by the end.
What I really enjoyed overall is the positive message that you don’t have to be your parents or your upbringing & that everyone should strive to make the world a better place for the next generation.
No prior series has come close with the excellent use of music.
Luke Cage himself was a far better representation both physically & mentality of the LC I’ve come to know from the decades of marvel comics I’ve read.
DD & JJ certainly aren’t badly done, but they were changed more for the transition to tv than Luke (obviously he’s changed quite a bit since his 70s blaxpoitation roots, but it was nice to see them acknowledge it in some way).
I just dig the positive vibe it ended on EVEN THOUGH shit didn’t turn out all that well.
Disagree, the plot revolved around her struggle against him and it would be weird if he wasn’t involved in the majority of the developments, especially toward the end. Anything else would be bad writing IMO. Also he was a far better villain.
I have zero attachment or prior knowledge of the comics. IMO if you need to be fans of those to get the most enjoyment out of it, then they’ve failed. But honestly I wasn’t too excited going in either. I thought Luke was one-dimensional in JJ and his particular powers kind of take a lot of the tension out (he’s almost Superman lite) plus didn’t think the actor despite his stature had enough presence in the scenes he was in, and still feel that way after finishing the show. I also felt like the bulk of the supporting cast was very weak, with really only Shades standing out as an interesting character in his own right. For me, the interesting supporting cast was a lot of what makes the previous two series work.
I hope Iron Fist is better but not holding out much hope at the rate they’re going.
Wow, Misty & Pops were fantastic.
Yeah, Purps should have his finger in many pies, I found it became unbelievable that he was part of everything. It was just too much for me to swallow.
He was part of everything because Jessica was specifically chasing him and looking for him (and he was hunting her as well) so everything she came across, he had his fingers in by simple self-selection. Seemed quite reasonable to me. He’s a fantastic villain, genuinely terrifying in a completely different way to Fisk / Kingpin isn’t.
On the secondary characters, Pops was great but was barely in the show and the writers couldn’t decide what Misty’s character was. None of them come close to the supporting cast from Daredevil (eg Foggy) or Jessica Jones (seriously, Carrie-Ann Moss absolutely steals the show whenever Hogarth has a scene). The only supporting character in Luke Cage that really does anything is Claire, and at this point she’s not so much a supporting character as an extra member of the team that knows everyone.
I also really didn’t buy the whole romance with Luke thing. It didn’t work at all IMO.I’d forgotten Carrie-Ann Moss was even in JJ.
While it was good, I think it’s the weakest of them so far. And that’s not good since it’s basically gotten less good with each season they’ve done. 🙁 Crap villains, a lot of badly delivered dialogue (mumbled / indistinct) and oh my god Cottonmouth licking his lips all the time. Was that just a weird tic of the actor or was it supposed to make him more ‘snake-like’ or some shit? So distracting.
I don’t think I’d consider it the weakest, but I agree that there’s a bit of a decline. I feel like Daredevil did too good a job at the start. It sort of created a formula that they’re trying to repeat/afraid to move away from and it’s turning all these shows into sequels instead of one-off standalone stories.
True, it’s probably par with Daredevil S2. It’s not as good as S1 or Jessica Jones.
Went to work this morning for the first time in almost a year! Was pretty much just a meeting to discuss my return to work, but turns out I need a clearance cert from my GP, so going to see him this arvo.
Probably for the best though, as I’ve lost my voice thanks to the Frenzal gig! I was a little raspy yesterday, but today, just nothing…Not the best thing to happen when my job requires me to talk on the phone a lot! Still, getting there!
With any luck, my doc will give me the ok for like 3 days a week to start, so we can make sure I have no issues, and then work my way back to full time. Exciting times ahead though! w00t!
Progress!!!
In otherwise stuff, over the weekend I had a sudden itch to finally crack out Odama. It’s been sitting on my shelf for the last eight years or so after spying a sealed PAL copy of it in Dungeon Crawl on a trip to Melbourne (also picked up a PC copy of Psychonauts then for my sister). Holy shit this would have to be the most Japanese thing I’ve ever played. Voice-controlled tactical pinball set in feudal Japan. How does that not sound like a winner? 😛
It is pretty friggen hard. Mostly because you’re trying to juggle so many different tasks at once, issuing orders to your troops on the field and assign them tasks to complete the current objective, whilst also trying to keep an eye on the enemy and play a game of pinball around them all which also involves heavily tilting the playfield to guide the ball as it rolls around. And sometimes the physics can be a little bit dickey and not send the ball where you want it to go, and overall it’s a little on the short side, but still it is damn good. Wish I’d got onto it sooner.
Continuing the weird Japanese theme, I decided to most on to Cubivore. It certainly brings the weird. Maybe just not quite so much the quality 😛 Though in hindsight it did have its roots as a 64 game, so that does explain some of the feel of it, and I did warm up to it more towards the end. Still, absolutely not worth the ridiculous prices it seems to be going for on eBay these days. People are crazy.
Well I finally have monies for PAX tickets so going to grab them. Before I do just wanted to check if there were any 3 day passes people are trying to get rid of
Happy to pay full price as that will still be a saving on individual day tickets
Let me know if anybody is looking to sell
You can’t have mine as it’s mine and belongs to me, but I’ll see you there. 🙂
Full price and a PAX meat hug
ok, ok, you drive a hard bargain
Full price and 2 pax meat hugs?
Hahaha MINE.
But you can have the pleasure of my company for free. 🙂 See you there somewhere. Good luck getting a pass.
We will probably just get 3 individual passes tonight
One day each? 😉
Well just bit the bullet and bought passes last night. Figure the little extra is well worth it compared to missing out
Looks like my progress has been put on the backburner. Went to the doc, and he spoke to my case worker in the rehab team, and they’ve now decided I’m not ready to go back to work, and need to get more tests done 🙁 Boourns!!!!!!!!!
Might have to start another fundraiser 🙁 SO did NOT need this 🙁 🙁 🙁
Not progress 🙁
I felt kind of good about it all this morning after my meeting and everything! Now just back where i started :\
Man, that sucks. Did they give any specific reasons or just covering their bases? I don’t know exactly what you do but could you like, go back 2-3 days a week at first or work from home?
No specific reasons, other than they need ‘official clearance from medical specialists”. I was shooting for 2-3 days a week to start, and depending on how I handled it, work up from there, but apparently they need more before they are satisfied to let me return. I thought my GP would be happy to give me the all clear, but he immediately expressed concern when I explained that I was hoping to go back in that manner. I did my best to convince him otherwise, and I thought I’d kind of won him over, but then he sent me to the waiting room so he could call the rehab case worker, and after speaking with her, it all went to shit :\
That seems really odd. Do they not want to clear you until you’re okay to go straight back to 5 days a week? Because normally coming back after an injury or illness, getting back to a normal routine faster actually helps recovery.
that’s my thought too. No idea why they would really oppose me trying to get back in to the swing of things in a limited capacity. I expected they’d jump at the chance to get me back on the road to normality. Hopefully it won’t take too much longer, but I have a whole bunch more tests to get done now. i can’t afford to be not working. every fortnight I fall further behind, and that’s only taking rent and electricity in to consideration. 😐 Any donations would be gladly accepted at this point! 😀
Years ago when Voices of a Distant Star released, people were saying that the director Makoto Shinkai could be the next Miyazaki, but since then his movies haven’t really hit much commercial success. They’re utterly beautiful works of art (those backgrounds, especially those skies…) but didn’t seem to capture the right spark.
But it seems likes his newest film, Your Name, has finally broken through. It’s utterly killing it in theaters in Japan right now. 39 days into its theatrical run and it’s just passed 13 billion yen, which edges it past the box office take of The Wind Rises and puts its Japanese sales in the top 15 of all films, and the 5th highest-selling anime film. At the current rate it’s looking like it may knock Ponyo off of the 4th spot as well.
Anyway, this film really seems to be blowing up big, and it looks like it’s going to get a theatrical run in Australia some time soon, so wanted to make sure it’s on people’s radar as it looks to be fantastic.
I wonder if they will rename it for Australian Release. ‘Your name’ sounds very generic and would not hit my radar at all. So thanks for the heads up.
From what I understand, the title of the film references the conclusion and is a pivotal reference. It’s also the title in Japanese (君の名は。, Kimi no Na wa).
Besides, it’s a lot less awkward than some of his film titles. Voices of a Distant Star is fine (though it’s not a completely literal translation), but Five Centimeters Per Second and The Garden of Words are a bit strange, and both The Children Who Chase Lost Voices and The Place Promised In Our Early Days are awkward as fuck. Especially that last one, since it’s super awkward and not a translation of the title (which was Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho – Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place – any English speaker would have titled this simply ‘Beyond the Clouds’ in English IMO).
All of his movies are great, by the way. The Place Promised is one of my favourite films of all time. Stunning soundtrack, interesting plot, scenery porn everywhere. They’re often pretty ‘arty’ films though. Not as consumer-friendly as Miyazaki or, say, Mamoru Hosoda’s stuff (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, etc) but still very good.
Interesting. Will keep an eye out.
Great news. I’ve always enjoyed Shinkai’s output and it would be nice to have the option to see one of his films in the cinema.
Watched Star Wars Rebels Season 3 ep 1 & 2 last night. Thoughts:
– Holy crap has there been a tonal change since the series began. It’s way darker now. Very interesting too.
–
Grand Admiral Thrawnis pretty close to perfect. I feel like maybe his voice is a bit soft and lacking in presence (it’s a shame they blew through Jason Isaacs as the Inquisitor in the first season – he’d have worked well as Thrawn IMO) but so far it feels like they’ve nailed the character. Really looking forward to seeing what they do with him. He’ll be a tough one to beat.–
Maulstill confuses me a bit. For one thing, I’m still upset they resurrected him in Clone Wars since it always felt like one of those daft bad-parts-of-the-EU moves. But I like the evolution of his character toward being a bit more sinister and everything. It’s what he needed in the films.– Kanan’s meeting with
the Benduis interesting. The things he learns aren’t really a surprise, but I guess it’s working toward making some of the EU stuff like the Miraluka that ‘see’ through the Force closer to legitimate. Also an interesting character. I feel like we saw a bit of this stuff in Clone Wars too. Hints that maybe Lucasfilm / Disney want to move away from the whole light-vs-dark dichotomy, the idea that maybe a ‘neutral’ way exists too?– Was that Kreia from KotOR2’s voice I heard in the Sith Holocron?
– Speaking of Holocrons,
it looks like Maul saw Obi-wan. The ‘he’s alive!’ thing, plus Ezra seeing ‘twin suns’ (Tatooine). Maul held a big grudge against Kenobi, because of the whole making him half the man he used to be thing. The question is, what was Maul expecting to see? He was looking for ‘hope’ in the holocrons. I don’t think he had any expectation that he’d see his old nemesis in there…I haven’t started watching the new season yet but I am really happy that Rebels followed the Clone Wars style and became more serious over time. I’ve only seen
Thrawnin the trailer but even from that brief glimpse it felt like the voice actor and the animators nailed it.I’ll have to jump in and start watching again. Considering
Maulsurvived I imagineAhsokaalso survived that last fight in season 2. It will be interesting to see where things go.If she did, then it hasn’t been made obvious. At least not yet.
Maulis like a cockroach. Seems to be able to survive anything and keep reappearing. At least his character arc has been interesting to follow. He went from being a tool of the Sith to embracing raw anger and hatred to becoming a scheming and manipulative “Lord”. It’s very rare to witness the dark side version of an apprentice developing into a master and I think it’s been done fairly well. Parts of it were absolute garbage (urgh spider legs) but his appearance in season 2 was pretty good in my eyes. I’ll have to watch to see how he progresses in season 3 but it sounds promising.
Yeah, he’s matured and I think physically weakened so instead has to rely on other things. He’s also put some stat points into Charisma while still being a ruthless, murderous douche and it’s nice to have a villain that is effectively Neutral Evil, since the bulk of the EU Sith are either Chaotic or Lawful.
I don’t even like star wars but you have piqued my interest.
What is this avaliable on and is the Clone Wars? series required viewing?
Whatever you do, don’t watch the first iteration of the series available on Netflix. It’s the second newer iteration you want.
Where should i go to watch it then?
Wait, the clone wars thing on netflix isn’t ‘clone wars’?
Rebels imo is the one that stays true to the Star Wars mythos. Clone Wars outside of the cartoon animation series was just a big colossal playground for Lucas to muck around in. The only decent episodes/arcs were the ones revolving around Troopers. Everything else was some quasi-magical-religious bullcrap between force gods, force witches, wizards and knights and ponies.
OK I get the difference between rebels and clone wars
But are there 2 different versions of clone wars?
3 versions imo but some would argue 2. The first version was a cartoon mini-series, which was pure gold imo.
The second version was the animated clone wars series released in an order that would make you go mad. The third version is once Disney got a hold of it, they cut and paste episodes across all the existing seasons into a timeline that actually made some kind of sense.
Clone Wars is fucking great. The art’s a bit ugly and the first half of season 1 or so is ropey as fuck but once they figured out how to make it work, it basically redeemed the prequels for me. I mean fuck, they actually have Jar Jar periodically and figured out how to make him tolerable. Rebels is a new series. Clone Wars was wrapped up after Disney bought Lucasfilm, and Rebels is the replacement. Bridges the gap between Ep III and IV and purports to show the beginning of the organization of the Rebellion and stuff. It started solid and has just gotten better and better as it’s gone on, much like Clone Wars did.
Hmm. With the frozen leftovers stretching out over twice as many nights thanks to the portions being about twice as large as they needed to be, it looks like I may just scrape through to Saturday without having to cook for myself after all. Huzzah 😛
I made myself some curried egg and mayo today. Been so long since I made it, I couldn’t remember the portions I used to use, so I used 6 eggs! :0
Now I have a massive noodle bowl full of curried egg and mayo in the fridge! Should last me a couple of days I reckon!
Oh yeah, there’s still eggs in the fridge! Although no bread… but there is one more pack of crumpets. Hmm.
Welp. That desk lamp with the power pack held together by tape sure doesn’t like to be turned on any more. Or at least the house doesn’t like it being turned on.
Oh, wow. So it seems the prongs for the plug aren’t exactly fixed in place at all, and got pushed into the power brick. Where there was nothing between them and the transformer block, where they were free to touch the plates and short out. GG.
Ed: Or at least it seems, there was… but it slipped out? Weird. It’s like it wasn’t there when I opened it up, but then noticed on the table there was this piece cut out for the spot it was meant to be. Seems fine enough now I guess >.>
…anyone used a SmartMedia card before?
I just opened one up and bahahaha this thing is so much more gigantic than I would have thought. It’s like the 5.25″ granddaddy to an SD card’s 3.5″ floppy disk.
I used one a very long time ago at a customer’s place. I’ve seen a couple of different types though. The one I refer to there was like an SD card, but bigger, but I’ve also see one’s that look like chipped credit cards Both equally as stupid really considering what’s available these days!
Yeah, it’s like the size of two SD cards beside each other. And holds TWO whole megabytes!
Everyone knows I write the best thank you notes! You too can get your very own right here! 😀
https://www.gofundme.com/f6j6232k
C’mon! You know you want to! 😉
Just donated man, here’s hoping you’re back at work soon.
Thanks @highperformance & @negativezero! just got the emails informing me of your kindness! Figured I’d come and drop a quick note in here so you don’t think I’m ignoring it! I will get around to sending out proper thank you notes soon 😀
Donated. Best of luck man. Hoping that there’s light at the end of the tunnel soon.
Kombat Pack 2 for MKX has finally hit PC and it looks like they fixed the awful shit show that was the PC port. Why can’t I quit you, Ed Boon?
At least they had the decency to give us some skins and the pit for free too! w00!
Have the offically announced the PC port for Injustice 2 yet? If not I feel it will be coming soon, the DLC has managed to push up the rating of MKX on Steam from mostly negative to mixed.
I haven’t seen anything, but then I haven’t really been looking either. I’ve never even played Injustice though.
Injustice single player is great, online was (and probably still is) a schomozzle
Wow, Iron Banner’s really generous this time around. 5 players on average getting light-appropriate legendaries dropping on a win, 1-2 players on a loss; ghosts, artefacts, shaders and emblems dropping pretty frequently, too. No daily bounties, just four weeklies – all of which I knocked over before rank 3; nearly hit rank 5 last night alone, and even managed to creep my warlock to 386. Lag is still bad as ever, tho. 😛
So, I guess if anyone needs to gear up for the raid, IB is potentially faster than doing strikes, and doesn’t stall out at 365.
Bloodborne Update:
TWICE I got Vicar Amelia down to one hit and somehow managed to die. So close. Fire paper + spin to win is working for me!So infuriating when that happens! but most the time, at least for me, it’s because i get greedy because “It’s just one more hit” and then fail :P…
Vicar is a decent fight too, but I don’t remember having too many issues with her, maybe i was overlevelled at that point.
Have you been down to (spoiler word for some but not really at the same time)
Witches of HemwickYet? It gives you a tool that may give you a little bit of a help towards bosses.
Tempted to jump back in to NG+, but trying to force myself to play Dark Souls 3, which is a really really good game, but it’s just not Bloodborne 😛
No I haven’t done that thing, but I’ll get there.
Favorite area in the game based on atmosphere for me… Just saying!
Let us cleanse these foul streets
Oh hey, the postie again. With a delivery for… me? Wtf could this be, nothing I ordered recently could have got here so quick.
Oh. PAX pass. Right :p
Guess I should do something about that…
https://pietriots.com/2016/09/29/federation-force-is-a-good-game-and-thats-not-okay/
Hahaha, this is great.
Little Witch Academia TV series in January. Hype.
Aw yes, so much hype! 😀
Woohoo, Bathurst weekend!
Woke up at 4am, had two coffees this morning, and I’m still tired.
Also, I formatted my Xbox 360 and am considering selling it and the games.
Update on Zenyatta image
https://twitter.com/scree06/status/784001983711543296
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/282595/Audio_Design_Deep_Dive_Using_a_human_skull_to_create_the_sounds_of_Inside.php this is pretty rad. The skull version is definitely unsettling.
The pic with the separated jawbone and skull was creepy
Woohoo, fun night playing Iron Banner with @os42 and a couple of other regulars.
We had a string of 4 wins in a row in Supremacy. And then I realised I hadn’t picked up the weekly bounties. D’oh!!! Still, nearly at rank 3 and still have 3 bounties to finish so rank 3-4 should be really doable tonight or tomorrow.
Also, I have Thorn now. \o/ That’ll be handy soon.
The new IB weapons are pretty amazing, too. Had a lot of fun trying out that new scout rifle – it’s like a full-auto MIDA. 😛 Might even replace my trusty old Treads… Looking forward to giving the hand cannon, auto and shotty a whirl soon, too.
Might start on my hunter tonight…
Thinking I need to bring the BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTT tonight. The range on the BZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTT was fantastic last night.
God knows what’s going on with my network though. Been awful the last few nights.
Tinglefingers? I actually swapped to voidwalker last night, because my stormtrance kept getting shut down really quickly as often as not. Also found it really useful to have a panic-button super for when I round a corner and run into the entire enemy team. And because I held my super for that “oh shit” moment, I could use Tlaloc effectively a lot of the time.
Well yeah, the nova bomb did get us out of trouble a few times. I did particularly enjoy the “float over the top of everyone with the purple area suppression of doom” 🙂
Hmmm Tlaloc. I think I have one of those…
With Overflow active, it fires slightly faster than MIDA, and maintains the impact of a Treads. When Eye of the Storm activates, it literally looks like the bullets curve toward your target’s head. You need to hold on to your super for Overflow to activate, but holy crap is it worth it.
Huh. OK, I shall play with this. I think I have a 355 blue primary I’ve been saving, could bring Tlaloc up to 355 (I’m 356 after last night’s little romp – started getting 357-358 drops).
First thing when I get home is load up bounties, quick daily, then running patrols and PvE bounties and getting a bunch of XP onto some gear. And then back into Iron Banner.
So a question for all the knowledgeable folks here.
I am looking at getting a New 3DSXL for my portable gaming needs.
I don’t get much time to game anymore so playing on the train (1hr and 20min each way for me) is the only time I will really get to play.
But I’m wondering if I should wait to see what happens with the NX?
What are peoples thoughts?
Well on the upside, the 3DS is well established and has a pretty sizeable library to choose from, and would probably be much cheaper to go for than the NX. Also we still don’t know anything about it and it won’t be here til March or so, so if you’re itching to play something sooner rather than later then it might be better to just jump in now.
Yeah very good points. Especially with the 3ds library.
Think I will jump on the 3ds train.
May wait to see if we get some specials leading into Christmas.
Nintendo’s track record with system launches is abysmal. Expect NX to have a good part of a year where the only games are utter trash except maybe one headliner. It’s also yet to be seen whether the system is properly portable or not (i.e. displacing the 3DS) and also whether it’s actually something you want to own.
3DS meanwhile is established, with lots of solid games to suit just about every style you might want to play. Also much cheaper to get into now.
Things to bear in mind though:
– Nintendo’s UI design is horrid, don’t expect much from that
– Everything you buy digitally is locked to your specific 3DS, not to your account, so don’t lose / break it or things get complicated!
– 3DS is region-locked so if there happens to be games you want that are taking forever / only available outside Australia/UK, you’re screwed.
– The thing has the ergonomics of a brick
Other than that, it’s a solid platform and a good buy right now.
Normally when someone says this, they mean “it has really bad ergonomics.” In the 3DSXL’s case, it’s not a metaphor – it’s literally a rectangular prism that’s been ever-so-slightly rounded at the edges.
It’s amazing how many people will try and shout me down about that point, but it’s true: it is literally brick-shaped. And also bad ergonomically. It’s functional enough I guess.
Both mine (fucking region lock…) are XLs and that exacerbates the brickyness, but are also more comfortable for my shit eyesight.
It’s why I got one of these – so much more comfortable, it’s almost like holding a PS4 controller. Unfortunately, with the grip, it’s too bulky to fit in my bag, so I only really play it at home, these days.
*shouts at you*
All very good points.
Thanks for that!
I think I’ll jump into onto the 3DS.
It should suit my needs.
Despite the region locking it should now have enough good games for me to play.
Expect to wait a good long while for any games.
Took a good year or more before 3DS had a decent library.
I’d grab the 3DS now and enjoy the great selection.
Your other option is the Vita, but unless you’re into the 3 genres of games that still occasionally come out then there’s nothing new on the horizon.
I use mine mostly to play PSX games from my teenage years.
Personally, if I had the spare cash right now, id be grabbing one of these:
https://www.entertainmentbox.com/unboxing-the-gpd-q9-gamepad-review-q9-rk3288-gamepad/
Yeap very true.
And I think I will grab one.
Yeah that looks interesting but it would still be running android games.
A lot of those are fun but I’m hoping the 3DS has games that are a bit more substantial if you know what I mean?
If anyone’s thinking of getting Kombat pack 2 for Mortal Kombat XL, and you already own Kombat Pack 1, buy the Kombat Pack bundle.
Kombat Pack 2 on its own is on sale for $9.99, but if you own Pack 1, the bundle only costs $8.29!
Final day of solitude! Assuming my parents can get on the flight home :p
Got a lot of stuff to move back into my room… Cleanup’s gone well though, managed to free up a couple of shelves of space and remove a whole load of dust.
@jocon Do you know what trinkets you need from Emerald Nightmare? Since there are only 4 healing ones?
None pretty much.
Chrono Shard is considered top tier and ideally I want another higher ilvl one to replace my 840
So, found a thread where someone said Heightened Senses had about a 22% uptime. The one that dropped had a proc of about 3200 Int? Considering my Chrono has about 1100 Int flat, HS would need either 35% uptime or a proc of 5000 Int to match it overall. Assuming I math gud.
And that’s not accounting for the Crono’s huge haste proc with about a 20% uptime.
Nightmare Fog I haven’t found solid data on yet. The other two are considered not great. Cocoon would be good but not better than Alchemist Stone.
Sorry for the confusion last night. I knew what I have is better than the EN ones but had not run the math to find out at what ilvl my Chrono would get overtaken. 20 ilvl in a Int proc trink sounded like a fair assumption but apparently not.
Good research, I came to the same conclusion, the best healing trinks for me are outside of the raid depending on ilvl. I’ll be putting together a new loot guideline around our system tonight.
Btw outside of theory crafting learn to take the math into practicality. Cocoon and Horn of Cenarius are shit in a real world scenario. We barely can afford to have one healer use leytorrent potion on most prog fights since one healer going out of commission is the equivalent of being a mana drain on the remaining 3 healers.
Yeah, I gathered as much with Cocoon and Horn. (I figured Cocoon could be a last resort if a mana trink is needed and it does have base Intellect.)
Again, sorry for not running the math beforehand on it. I planed to make a list but didn’t, my bad.
Also, hope I did the right thing in rolling first and double checking while clearing trash rather than hold up the loot distribution.
moved to post 1. stupid phone.
see post 1
Yay I won a comp over at Cnet run by the old Kotaku/Gizmodo/LifeHacker editor Seamus Byrne. It was their Warcraft comp, first prize was an Oculus Rift (I did not win that sadly which i’m a bit bummed about!) but I won a Warcraft movie pack thingo which is still pretty cool. Comes with the blu-ray release and other stuff (I think)
Nice, although 1st price would have been awesome
Yeah. Would’ve been cool to have one of them Rifts 😛
Found a pack of roasted wasabi peas. Best before 10/5/06.
I’m sure they’re fine.
I love Nintendo boxes, they all seem to fit perfectly inside each other. With a slight tweak to the inner cardboard, a Circle Pad Pro LL box can fit a regular CPP box. And by applying the same tweak to that one you can fit a DS paddle controller box. A Super Game Boy box can exactly fit a GB Camera box beside a DS headset box. And above them is enough space to again exactly fit a GB link cable box beside a GB printer paper box.
Master of matryoshka as well as tetris, squeezing all this into tiny space 😛
Aha! Found all the extra pinball bits and bobs, including the Peach/Boom Boom indicator. Was wondering where the hell that ended up. Now to figure out why it wasn’t working.
http://imgur.com/a/R3ezu
Jesus christ those wizards are at it again. This is amazing.
I wonder if this is what Carmack’s been working on since he went all quiet.
He was dropping hints about inside-out positional tracking in the leadup to all this, but mentioned that he’d left the Santa Cruz prototype fairly early on and it was mostly the work of the computer vision team.
I think he’s got the closing keynote of the conference, so maybe we’ll find out then.
January and February are fucked up for games releases (US dates):
Jan:
– 10th: Fate/Excellia
– 20th: Gravity Rush 2
– 24th: Kingdom Hearts 2.8
– 24th: Resident Evil 7
– 24th: Tales of Berseria
– 24th: Yakuza 0
– 27th: Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3
– 31st: Hitman
Feb:
– 9th: Nioh
– 14th: Air Conflicts: Secret Wars
– 14th: For Honor
– 14th: Persona 5
– 14th: Ride 2
– 14th: Sniper Elite 4
– 21st: Berserk and the Band of the Hawk
– 21st: Halo Wars 2
– 28th: Horizon: Zero Dawn
– 28th: Vikings: Wolves of Midgard
And that’s just stuff with confirmed dates.
Only 3 good games 😉
I counted 7 but I always forget you have shit taste. 😛
Seriously though, they delayed Gravity Rush 2 into January saying that the original launch window had too much competition, but now they’re releasing within a week of a bunch of high-profile, big games.
Also what the fuck are Namco thinking releasing a Tales game within two weeks of Persona 5? It’s amazing to say it, but Persona has become a juggernaut in the JRPG world.
How dare you!!!! :p
I really wonder what’s the point of pre-ordering CD’s from JB so I can get them on release day when they never seem to get them in even more so i’m told they’ll be in on release day yet they are not. They aren’t obscure bands either Green Day & Alter Bridge. It’s like ordering online from them, it takes 2 weeks to receive any CD I pre-order online, which makes no sense.
I’m shocked anyone buys CDs anymore.
Tbh it’s more shocking people buy music..
