Destiny Armour Shaders Are A Great Excuse For Variant Action Figures

McFarlane Toys really lucked out with the Destiny licence. Not only does it get to make some cool figures and replica weapons, with Destiny‘s armour shader system the repaint potential is massive. Here are four retailer-exclusive variants dropping in July.

For reference, here are the original paint jobs for the Hunter, Warlock and Titan figures announced by McFarlane Toys during the New York Toy Fair earlier this year.

For the three of the four retailer exclusives, which should be available in July for $US19.99 ($26), McFarlane not only swapped colours, they swapped out helmets as well.

Warlock fans will be able to pick up the black and orange Hallow Shader variant figure at GameStop. He’s wearing the latest in Light Beyond Nemesis helmet technology.

Walmart gets the short end of the stick. The Million Million Shader Hunter figure is a straight-up recolor of the main Hunter fig, with the same old face. Take that, Walmart.

Meanwhile, at Walgreens (the other Walstore), the Blacksmith Shader Hunter not only looks good, it also gets to try on the Celestial Nighthawk helmet for size.

Bye far the best of the four comes from Target. I do not play a Titan, but damn if the Amduat Ink Shader Titan doesn’t make me want to pound the ground. It’s like Iron Man and a Roman legionnaire had sex, and then Tony Stark gave him this armour as thanks.

Pretty nifty, eh? What McFarlane really needs to do is release all three of the figures blank and let players pain their own. Until then, we’ve got these babies.
