Our first real look at Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which is coming to Switch next year, shows all the classic tactical combat, now with the graphical capabilities to give everyone feet.
It is remarkable to see these sweeping battles on a screen bigger than your 3DS or your phone, and the darker tone of Three Houses is a slight departure from the recent Fire Emblem formula. What’s most interesting to me is how they have changed the player’s perspective when you’re in a battle.
It feels a lot more like you’re guiding an army, rather than pushing a few characters around on screen.
No word on whether or not it will have skinship, but I did spy one character telling another what skills to train in their spare time. That will be fun to play with, especially if I also get to tap their faces until hearts come out.

am genuinely looking forward to this. Love the general improvements that the trailer shows but am wondering if you get to choose a side at the start or if there will be later DLC to play as the other houses?
Either way, can’t wait for it.
Am I the only one who thought it looked pretty bad, graphics-wise at least. I don’t know much about the Fire Emblem series so I’m sure the gameplay is all there for those who love the series, but it looked really empty and muddy to me.
It’s a major step up from the 3DS series which had three instalments, but yes, this first entry on the switch would look quite bare to newcomers. But to players familiar to the series, it’s a rich update in graphics.
That said, people enjoy the series for its gameplay. Fire Emblem Awakening was my favourite – being able to couple my units and sending their offspring into battle was extremely addictive.
They have feet, so 10/10 graphics 😉

Fire Emblem games never have good graphics for 3D models / the overworld. But that’s because it’s not needed. So much of battles is in the menus and a simple display, and if they have some story it’s done through a really nice anime-style cutscene, not using in-game models.
The Fire Emblem series has never been a real “looker” in the graphics department. It built it’s following on strong gameplay & permadeath.
I just know “Three Houses” is going to translate to “Three separate versions you’ll have to buy if you want the full story”. The combat looks kind of interesting, especially if the formation choice is important. (They had a section where they entered a wedge formation) It’s kind of funny that Suikoden started modelling its tactical sections after Fire Emblem but had Advance Wars like resolution screens and now Fire Emblem is doing the same.
Now I want a new Suikoden…
Fates had a special edition that included all 3 games on the one cartridge.
I really hope they tone down on the Waifu/Husbando stuff, Fates was negatively affected because of it, character’s were bland fan art bait.
🙁
I love all Fire Emblem games tbh, but I’d have no quarrels with this being more like Echoes / old style.
Never owned a 3DS so I’m really looking forward to this one. Looks great.
