During a special YouTube presentation this morning, The Pokémon Company announced a new version of classic Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap in development for Nintendo Switch.

Released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, Pokémon Snap is a photo safari spinoff of the monster-collecting RPG series in which players are tasked with snapping pictures of pocket monsters while travelling through exotic locales. New Pokémon Snap looks to be the same sort of jam, only with many more Pokémon looking better than ever before.

So pretty. (Screenshot: The Pokémon Company)

The New Pokémon Snap trailer starts around the 5:30 mark in the video below.

If you look in the lower-left corner of the screen at around 6:24, you’ll see the game is being developed by Bandai Namco instead of the original developer, Hal Laboratory.

So excited. (Screenshot: The Pokémon Company)

  • I am kind of hoping that the new Pokemon snap has like a free roam mode or deviates a little from the cart on rails gameplay. I loved the original but once you learned all the locations of the Pokemon and when to snap them there wasn’t much else to do. I would love to explore the island without the constraints of being guided to which way to go, but hey realistically we at the mercy of the game developer.

  • At first I thought Pokemon Snap coming to Nintendo Switch wasn’t going to happen but we were wrong Pokemon Snap that was on the Nintendo 64 20 years ago is coming to the Nintendo Switch and New Pokemon Snap for Nintendo Switch is going to be developed by BANDAI NAMCO instead of HAL LABORATORY the developer behind the Kirby franchise that’s even better.
I’m excited for that since I never played it Nintendo 64 20 years I’m excited for New Pokemon Snap.
I appreciate it BANDAI NAMCO and I’m looking forward to New Pokemon Snap.
