Here’s The Cheap Arse Version Of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Imagine, for a moment, that Star Wars: The Force Awakens wasn’t being made with a Hollywood war chest overflowing with Spanish doubloons. Instead, Lucasfilm has five bucks, a few mates and a lot of cardboard. You’d probably end up with something like this.

Put together by the creative people of Dumb Drum (self-described as “just some guys making funny videos and short films in Fresno, California”), this clip is a shot-by-shot remake of the full Forces Awakens trailer. If you’re not sure how well it matches up, Dumb Drum also has a comparison video, showing its version and the official one side-by-side:

Despite the low budget, the short makes for compulsive viewing (the light tunnel around 1:10 is oddly breathtaking). It’s a stretch to say I’d watch a two-hour feature done in this style, but a tight 30 minutes sounds very enjoyable.
