The publisher of Street Fighter V offered up new details for the first big update to their newest fighting game. Capcom mentions specifics about SFV‘s first DLC character and inbound game modes, but is still mum on a permanent fix for rage-quitting.
A blog on Capcom Unity runs down major features of the moveset for returning SFIII character Alex, who’ll be debuting as part of a March content drop. His V-Trigger skill is called Rage Shift and gets described thusly:
Alex channels his wrestling training and gains access to a brand new clothesline attack. This attack can be charged and during that time, it can parry an attack. Upon full charge, if Alex makes contact with a blocking opponent, he will break their guard, leaving them open to an immediate attack.
Street Fighter V‘s in-game store will also be coming with the March Update, along with increased capacity and spectating for Battle Lounges:

The update also lists general bug fixes for the overall game, balance changes and tweaks to the moves of a few specific characters as well. While Capcom has been levying severe punishments on a small number of Street Fighter V rage-quitters, the lack of a more uniform punishment remains conspicuous in its absence. An exact date for the March update hasn’t been announced.

Half of the information was about their DLC. The other half was about bugs and what they’re adding. Still no release date, still no arcade mode. I’m not playing SFV again until there is an arcade mode.
Only a small amount of their information was about their ‘DLC’, and that was about Alex, who you can get for free by just playing the game. The rest was mostly about their free content update coming this month, which seems to come with quite a bit of content (and proper tutorials in the way of one of the challenge modes, something that fighting games absolutely need to pull in fresh blood). Sure, a lot of this should’ve been in the game to start, and an actual date would’ve been nice, but this is a pretty solid FREE update to the game.
Now for arcade mode; while it’s a bit criminal that the game doesn’t have it from the get-go, can you honestly expect an entirely new (as in new to this game) game mode to be coded, tested and implemented in about a month’s time on top of hitting the rest of the milestones already promised by the team? It wasn’t going to happen, nor did Capcom say it would.
If you go to the steam news for SFV, it is split into 2 halves, one for DLC and the other for update stuff. Yes, I know you can get Alex for free, but it’s still DLC and they are prioritizing that over actually completing the game.
I don’t know why you emphasize “free”. It’s an update, it’s meant to be free. If they released this as DLC, I would probably never buy a Capcom game again.
They didn’t start making this content when the game was released. They started before release. The fact that it released without an arcade mode is absolutely ridiculous in the first place. If it doesn’t get added in the next couple of months, I’m boycotting Capcom.
I completed the single player content of the game in about 4 hours. I have nothing else to do in the game now. I can’t play online because of shitty internet. Maybe if there were alternate costumes I could unlock, I’d have some sort of motivation to keep playing, but right now, the game will be gathering dust.
I’ll buy it when they bring out the super/turbo/v2.0 on Xbox One.
They’re not releasing those
Game was funded by sony, they didn’t pay for a timed exclusive, they actually paid to have the game made, it’s never releasing on Xbone.
I ended up buying it last weekend and the mechanics are really good. Easier to play with a gamepad than USFIV. I’ve had heaps of fun playing versus mode against the kids.
However, when the kids go to bed it’s not so much fun for a single player. Survival is ok, but one loss and there’s no continues. Also having to load a new character after each round is annoying.
Story mode is also unsatisfying since it’s only three single round fights per character.
The March update looks ok, but they really need an arcade mode or something that has:
– ‘best 2 out of 3’ fights
– the ability to continue
– a decent AI that gets harder after each fight.
Still no arcade mode or equilivant… guess this will sit on my shelve for a while longer
I hate to break it to you, man, but the game is not really made for you. Very, very few people really care about Arcade. This game was made to take SF into the 21st century with online play. Fighting games are about fighting other people, not crappy single player modes.
