Here is the Okami shirt design. Finished and finally I’m happy with the background. Please take a look!

@alexwalker I know you were interested, so I tagged you.
Lovely work, Scree.
Thank you! I redid the background 4 or 5 times.
Good morning TAY
Spaghett’s last song played game (sponsored by fuck cancer)
Weightless by Washed Out
How was YOUR weekend?
What was YOUR last song played?
Did I spend too much time playing Stardew Valley? (I did, so worth it)
Did you get into the Overwatch beta (I did, so worth it)
Thrift Shop – Macklemore (Postmodern Jukebox Version)
Also, Skinner said the teachers will crack at any minute, purple monkey dishwasher.
My weekend was fine.
My last played song was something from the Okami soundtrack.
Probably, but I also spent too much time playing story of seasons.
Good job. I would like to get overwatch at some point when it comes out.
It was a really fun beta, didn’t play many games (needed to leave my computer) but enjoyed what I did play
Really gravitated towards Junkrat and Roadhog
I’m probably gonna go with healer. =P
Bout four of those, always love varity 🙂
Awesomesauce =D
The Offspring – Totalimmortal (listening to the Me, Myself, & Irene soundtrack which is more like a Steely Dan tribute album)
Last song played: Meta Taro by Babymetal. Currently listening to the album for the 18th time in just over 2 weeks.
Damn good album that one 🙂
Only got it because I had a JB Hi-fi gift card from my parents for my birthday. Used it online and I got it on the release day despite only ordering it a couple of days before release. Really impressed with JB after that. Glad I bought the album though because it really is a good album. There isn’t a track I don’t like on it. They’ve improved on the original in every conceivable way. Babymetal are a band who if they came to Australia, I would try my absolute hardest to get to see, even if I had to swim to Melbourne.
Yeah I got into the beta as well (i think just about everyone did?). Initial thoughts – the game oozes personality and atmosphere. There’s just something about the art style and characters that’s endearing.
Gameplay felt like a typical objective based FPS; thought a lot of the weapons lacked any meaningful feedback, had a hard time keeping track of enemy hp bars (like I would get kills without even realizing they were close to death). Quick bouts of fun and probably a game I’ll pick up down the line just to play a few matches a day to let off steam. I am curious as to what the long term plan for the game is going to be.
I enjoyed it immensely and mostly gravitated towards Junkrat and Roadhog, Your right about the meaningful feedback on weapons and maybe that is something that will happen later?
I’m one of the ones who pre purchased, so just waiting for release now, that was my first access to the beta for it and it was so so fun
It’s kind of weird but the whole time I was playing the game I felt like it was a missed opportunity? So many of these characters have so much personality which feels almost wasted on an online competitive shooter.
All said and done after the beta finished for the weekend I found I was already missing the game.
I was personally jumping between Genji, Reinhardt and Farrah.
I do know exactly what you mean, in regards to missed opportunity and missing it after it was gone
Bad things – Jace Evereet (Although realistically there would be something from Tiglet playlist)
Started feeling better, slept for 20 out of 24 hours thurday arvo friday arvo. Did some baking on Sat and then familly fun day at day care on Sunday so a nice weekend.
No
No
I probably could have played more Stardew, I am only now in Spring of year 2!!
I wanna get to year eternity (never gunna stop playing)
You didn’t get into the beta? Interested in the game?
Interested in Stardew much more than Overwatch
Trying to move away from repetitive online games to get through some of my backlog so didn’t apply for the beta. Although I have a feeling Stardew isn’t going to help my backlog once I get around to buying it
Stardew will increase your backlog exponentially, I guarantee it 🙂
Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer by Behemoth.
First time playing Fire Emblem: Awakening, almost regret picking Hard difficulty.
Ever since my Spotify Premium sub finished (I got a year free with my iPhone last year, and haven’t got around to re-subbing yet) I’ve been listening to the one album I have on my phone that doesn’t require streaming; “Earthwalker” by In Hearts Wake.
Really loving the title track off that one, it has Joel from Amity as a guest singer.
Friday’s episode of Vikings was great.
Loved seeing a little bit of a re-connection between Ragnar and Lagertha. Aslaug has officially signed out.Signing out from actively playing The Division now as well. I’m investigating the cheeky side of it though that is somewhat borderline on the morals. But seriously, fxck that Challenge mode Incursion though.
Morning, TAY.
Unusually cold this morning.
And it’s lovely, I can wear comfy jumpers again!
It’s all about the beanies, Techie.
Homer-clenies cares not for beanies!
On the weekend I had a friend round with a decent drill to fix my back gate.
Then he bought a whole bunch of my old consoles & shit.
I’m that much closer to a new putener.
Oh, I accidentally watched some of that new Dragon Ball with the blue hair. On YouTube with Spanish subs.
Didn’t hate it.
Vegeta still makes me smile, what a champ.
Had a pretty decent weekend. Saturday I went to the local farmers market, got to hear the trio that my cousin’s sons have playing. They’re really good, and considering the oldest is only 16, they’re doing well for themselves. After the farmers market, I went to Brixhibition, a local Lego exhibition which was really good. They had some really cool stuff and it made me want to buy more Lego. After that I had lunch (curried scallop baked potato) and chilled for a bit while waiting to go to see the Hawks play the Saints.
My Uncle bought me a membership so we could go and watch the footy together. But Saturday’s game was pretty hard to watch. Lots of turnovers and downright ugly mistakes, and the better team lost. I made the joke that the police needed to be called as Hawthorn had stolen the 4 points. I suppose if we can’t play well, getting a lucky win is almost as good. I hope we don’t have to rely on luck too much though.
Sunday sucked a bit as I was feeling tired after all the stuff I did on Saturday, and developed a cold. Was supposed to sing at church, but couldn’t as I was coughing a lot and had a sore throat. So I stayed home and watched UFC Tampa, NBA playoffs, Melbourne City v Perth Glory (Damn you Bruno Fornaroli!), and some eps of The Simpsons.
Despite the cold, was a pretty decent weekend. 9/10 (Deducted a point for the cold).
I missed watching the game, but I did see the score line at various times during the afternoon… how did the Saints manage to A) get that close and B) lose it in the end?
The Saints got that close because they were the better team and Hawthorn played atrociously. Probably the worst game I’ve seen them play at Aurora. They lost it in the end because one of their players had a shot for goal late in the game and missed, and Hawthorn managed to keep it down their end long enough to get to the final siren. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so disappointed with a Hawthorn win. Next game at Aurora is against the Dockers, and despite the Dockers form of late, I’m nervous about our chances of winning, but that’s not until May and we may have improved by then.
It’s going to be a looooooong season for us. Feels like Harvey is our coach again.
hahahaha hahaha haha ha … ha *sob*
As a bombers fan I have written of this seasonTo be fair, you can’t really have a season with half a team.
Half a team and a dozen has beens thank you very much
Crowley’s sweatbands count for a player all of themselves. What a bargain.
My wife was in Launceston for the game (and her dad’s birthday). 🙂 And you’re right, Hawthorn didn’t look great.
Hey all! My weekend has been productive as all hell, and I feel great!
Starting Friday, I worked from home because of the power issues I’ve been having at my apartment. My fridge died as a result of them (blew the PCB) but it got replaced under warranty so that was great. Followed up by the electrician confirming that yes, I was right, I have a faulty circuit breaker. So he rendered it safe and rerouted my power to another breaker so that I wouldn’t have to be “without” until today when he’s coming back to replace the breaker itself with a new one. It does feel good when your troubleshooting efforts prove fruitful, and even better when you’re asked if you have a background in electrical work because the report was so detailed and talked about the right things. Yay!
Also did some work on a map for Pathfinder… Yes, I might actually get “A Thorne In The Flesh” off the ground some time this year. I’m much happier with how the world is coming together as I flesh out its back-story, enough so that I feel I can move on to crafting a plot. More on that in the next few weeks.
Saturday went to the footy with Bun and Rocket, was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable the game was. I was expecting Gold Coast to have a fairly easy go of it, but Brisbane managed to out-Brisbane their Brisbane and get the win. If they’d only kicked straight they might have had an easy time themselves, but no, they had to kick inaccurately so that there was still some drama in it.
Sunday I rented a car to go for an expedition out to the hills. Didn’t find many good photo opportunities, but I think a lot of that was the route I took. Also the weather decided to not play along and just put up a grey blanket of “meh” clouds which showed no sign of clearing as sunset approached. Still, all was not lost. I managed to take what, compositionally speaking at the least, may be the best photo I’ve ever taken at the Gordonbrook Dam. I was so happy when I got home and downloaded the photo and saw that I’d managed to capture the scene the way that I’d pictured it in my head. I haven’t done any landscape work in a while, so I was doubly pleased to execute this one. Inspired to go out and do some more shoots in the near future.
Productive weekends are great weekends! How was yours?
I shaved my balls!
\o/
Lol, nah, I didn’t.
Or did I?
Now you’ll be wondering all day.
You’re welcome.
I’ll just have to find out in person. \o/
Viewing party this weekend. I’ll have to find some red velvet curtains and a little pedestal.
I’ll get the camera ready.
There’s no bush for the landscape picture though…
Just a stark, barren and pale lunar-like wasteland.
With a flagpole.
Bring your best zoom lens.
I don’t have a macro lens.
Are you using a mapping program for your world or are you drawing it by hand? I’m pretty rubbish at drawing so stuff like Hexographer and Inkarnate are a godsend.
I have the artistic skill of a rock, so it’s weird that I’m drawing by hand based on a tutorial I found on a cartography forum. I’ve tried using this particular tutorial 2 or 3 times in the past and never gotten it to work. Whatever I’m doing this time is working as intended so instead of being stuck around step 20 I’m up to step 55. The shape of the continent is in place, the mountains and hills are laid down, next step is to add finer details.
The thing is I only really need a few “key” features for the continent itself. There’s some bays, some forests, and some desert / reefs that are key to the ideas. The rest of the land can pretty much just be whatever randomness spits out and then I’ll create detail based on what I see. Will link you to the guide when I get home if you’re interested.
Yeah I’m certainly interested in having a look. My maps in the past have suffered from the common problems of worldbuilding such as geography not making any sense whatsoever and just having a patchwork style of lands and cultures without giving much thought to how each affects the other. Actually drawing properly seems to help a tonne with establishing a setting.
Here’s the tutorial: Making a continent in photoshop
Great pic Sire! Love the identity tag too 😉
Haha, thanks! I need to do a higher quality version of it though. I literally threw that watermark together 4 or 5 years ago and haven’t updated it since. I tried to use it on my website (GingerSnaps.pics – coming soon) and it did not scale well at all.
Still. Once you’ve gone Ginge’ you can’t go back.
If you want, I might be able to do up a vector version for ya which will scale to any size you want with no diminishing of quality.
That could be good, what would be involved? I mean I guess it would probably translate pretty well since it’s just text, a drop shadow, and some line art.
Also once you get the file how do you work with it? Lightroom only lets you use PNG for watermarks. I thought vector files were like… SVG?
well, yeah you will likely need to use a png for the watermarks, but I meant more that I could do up a flash file (maybe could export as illustrator) which you could use to export images of whatever size you need (either PNG or gif or jpg depending on what you planned to use it for.
As for what’s involved, depending on the original image, I may be able to use an automatic picture trace conversion, in which it would essentially convert the image in to scalable vector paint, or I could manually redraw using vector outlines and paint fills etc.
The auto picture trace is decent in some cases, but depends on the source image. Sometimes it can end up with messy results, and often the file size is pretty big compared to the original image, but that won’t really make a difference to your end result. Hand doing it will be much neater/easier to manipulate if you want to change certain aspects of it, but will obviously take me a little longer to produce.
I understand the words that are coming out of your text but not what they mean put together. 😛
well, essentially, I could make you a file, that you could use to export your png or whatever file type you want. Just need u to email me the original file and I’ll see what I can do 🙂
dondalinger at hotmail
@welbot – Haha, yeah I got the first bit it was more the technical aspects of the second.
I’ll forward the file when I get home tonight, thanks. 🙂
Finished my first play through of Dark Souls 3 over the weekend, I would do a write up but I did like 14 bosses over 3 days (Fri Sat Sun) and it would be a mountain of text that not many would read :S how’d the rest of you fair over the weekend? Edit:(Last boss & all optionals downed at about 27 hours total play.)
Wow, power gamer much :p
I’m up to Aldrich, who is a jerk.Did you down her? spent most my time chopping at her tail and mostly tanked through her cleave damage, sloppy kill but a kill is a kill.Nah, keep being hasty and making stupid mistakes. Got her down to a sliver 3 times but died before I could get one more hit in.Just take too much attrition from all the things.
Wow, well done.
I got Crystal Sage, Deacons and Wolnir done, but got my arse kicked hard by literally the first enemy in Irithyll… (the lanky white sword guys) Their big combo has like six hits, first two take all my stamina, third and fourth kill me, fifth and sixth mutilate my corpse; or their heavy two-hit combo that wrecks me, then kills me as I stand up. Nfi how I’ll get past them. Dodging seems to work for the most part, but by the time they finish their combo I’ve rolled through all my stamina and have nothing to attack with. Have to land four greatsword swings to kill them, too…Might look around, as a friend said there are three paths open after Catacombs…Yeah, shit gets real once you get to Irythill. I went from cruise mode to “oh right, I’m playing Dark Souls.” and my progress slowed right down.
I’ve found two ways from Irythill, one after the Boss, who is also a reality check, 😀And here I thought I might actually finish this one. 😛 That said, the ember mechanics make summoning for bosses much more forgiving than DS1… get to boss door, pop ember, summon help.
Is irithyll the place where those witches drain your hp bar just by being around you?No, that’s the Irithyll Jail under the city.
And fuck those guys with a branding iron. It’s actually line of sight – will drain your bar at infinite range as long as your toon is in los of them glowing red.
That place is short but it’s a bastard. Only got past once then died to a mimic before finding another bonfire.
Yeah that was the first part of the game that I decided to drop my heavy armor and use a great shield, I believe I used the ‘Curse Ward Shield’ my kite shield seemed to be sucking in to much stamina and rolling around seemed tougher than reasonable against it.The Smouldering lake is also below the catacombs, two bones shards and a estus shard in that area, worth picking up.
Oh, I’ll have to go back and find that area.
Thanks for the tip – have 10 estus+2 and have just hit the point where one estus won’t put me back to full. 11 estus+4 will help… and gives me a new thing to work towards. 😛I think you missed a bone shard or two, as memory serves theirs one in undead settlement, one in farron keep, one in cathedral of the deep and one in catacombs.(only mentioning places you already visited.)Probably missed one in Catacombs – kinda dashed through there pretty quickly, cos screw those ninja skeletons. Other one’s probably in the Cathedral, somewhere…Oh, I forgot to mention, about my running. I have sprained my ankle, so I have decided to stop running until I can get a decent pair of cross training shoes. Thanks to everyone for being so supportive
Unlike your shoes! *high fives self*
That sucks 🙁 *hugs for your ankle*
Thanks. Lots of rest and stuff.
ouch, don’t push yourself to run if your body’s telling you not to scree. Ignoring how your body’s feeling is the easiest way to get injuries (i hurt my back a year or so ago doing pulldowns even though I knew I was still recovering from the previous day’s session). Rest up and get back into it when you feel you’re ready!
I think I’ll wait until I get better shoes
I did more 40K RPG over the weekend and this time we had extreme chaos. Daemon engines, Dark Mechanicus, Nurgle stuff, perils of the warp, the works. I also managed to get someone to burn a fate point (basically one of their lives) so I felt satisfied, even if I didn’t get to transform them into a plaguebearer. There’s always next time though.
I feel like you’ve probably seen this already, but in case you haven’t:
A classic series so far. Also up there is The All Guardsman Party which is a downright hilarious read on Imperial Guard troopers attempting to work in the Inquisition.
I gotta take time to read this, that sounds amazing
Morning all, So my weekend consisted of Learning to program in python, playing Deadpool (OMG its better than I expected), and attending my friends graduation (Masters)
How was everyone elses?
When we were talking about timesink games last week I forgot one!
SouthPark – The Stick of Truth. Enough RPG elements that it’s actually a surprisingly good game, and the humour is bang on. Try to get your hands on a non-Australian version, since ours got pretty heavily censored, but even the AU version is fantastic.
Wasn’t heavily censored, only two scenes and personally I feel what they replaced them with is actually funnier.
Oh really? My brother got his hands on the uncensored version and said there were other bits aside from those 2 scenes, but then again my brother is an idiot so I should probably have done some more research.
This happened during my weekend:
There’s nothing there! Did you forget to… Oh. Oh I see. I get jokes.
wait, so my write-up about my travels to a lost, isolated communist settlement off the coast of Iceland whose members consisted mostly of scientists working on a obsolete space program didn’t get through?
well, shit. I’m too lazy to write that all up again.
Bought my Dad a new monitor on Friday arvo.
Also been playing Rocket League and Rollercoaster Tycoon after managing to fix the save error that’s been bugging me for years.
Spent most of my weekend finally getting around to catching up on Dr Who from last year, as well as playing through Yoshi’s Wooly World. Nearly done now, it’s been surprisingly good. I mean overall it doesn’t have as much charm as Kirby, but there’s some damn nice level design in there, and some real challenge too so long as you’re looking to actually complete each level rather than just get to the end. God, if they had some kind of hardcore mode that made you have to get all [five, twenty] [flowers/wools,stamps] in a single run rather than being able to go back and get the missing ones on their own I think I would die. Especially on the S levels, whoever designed those is a sadist.
Also had Mum’s laptop die, and since Asus don’t really give a fuck about repairs she started looking for a different one instead. Which meant asking me for advice. Uhhh.
After a bit of looking around she started pondering whether she could just get an iPad instead, which sounded good to me. I don’t know anything about those, so it would get me out of any future tech support and mean my sister starts to get bugged instead. No such luck though, she got a pretty good offer at the shops on Sunday and came home with one of each ;_;
Sister’s boyfriend also did some spending on the weekend too, getting himself a motorbike. Kind of a lifelong dream of his. Maybe I should get one too. I’ve got the beard for it, we could start a gang 😛
ALSO WOO, STAR FOX! Didn’t realise it was so close, can’t wait for the weekend now. Though with any luck my Rift will end up coming this week, and I’ll be torn. Actually, my friend popped up with another game code for me, so now I’m up for four reviews once the headset gets here. Ugh, work-like activity.
So in an otherwise uneventful weekend I watched 2 movies. Both okay.
Saturday – Up in the Air (because my wife couldn’t decide what she wanted to watch so I just put it on)
Sunday – How to Train Your Dragon.
10 days till we’re off to Hawaii. I now have a profile with the Department of Homeland Security after being approved for travel within the USA. I also find it hilarious that my 3 year old and 3 month old were asked if they had or have an employer… Or if they intended to commit acts of terrorism, espionage, sabotage or genocide.
Hilarious is when the three year old is asked do you intend to perpetrate an act of terrorism…and answers…”um…okay.”
If I remember having a 3 months old, I think bioterror attacks are on the cards big time
Toothless! \o/
The dragon-cat? Or my 3 month old?
I actually loved that the Dragon’s have cat’s behaviours… The catnip and purring made me laugh enough that I almost woke the kid up.
Por que no los dos?
I love that form. They actually ask you if you’re part of a terrorist organization. Does anyone say yes?
I’m so keen, we’re about 3.5 weeks from heading out to NYC for 10 nights, then Honolulu for 5 nights, and Maui for 5 nights.
Have you done your ESTA form? Told Department of Homeland Security that you’re not a genocidal spy?
Never been to the US and it was a long way down my list of places to go. However, our friends in Canada suggested meeting halfway and making a decent trip out of it. So we’re there for 16 days. Got 6 nights on Ohau (2 nights Honolulu and rest on North Shore), then 8 nights on Big Island, then one more night in Honolulu before back on the plane.
I have done them in the past, but not for this trip, this is my 3rd time to the states, though my first to Hawaii.
Oh God…Aussie Rules? 🙂 I only went for the meat pies. Sport is like religion. Only fun if you are god.
Didn’t play a single game all weekend /o\
Was in Brissy for a mate’s wedding – thus concludes a month of partying and heavy drinking and now I just want to detox for a bit… but then I remember we are going camping this weekend and that’s always a boozy affair. Le sigh.
Bought and read The Great Zoo of China – I used to be a huge Matthew Reilly fan (Temple and the Scarecrow series are excellent), but some of his later stuff is pretty pedestrian – he’s got some excellent ideas, and his books would make fantastic popcorn movies, but his writing style isn’t the best. That being said, it’s a pretty entertaining book – and having just finished reading 2 epic fantasy series (went straight from reading the whole Wheel of Time series into the Song of Ice and Fire books), a nice standalone easy read was exactly what I needed.
You’re a masochist. Wheel of Time then straight into Ice and Fire?
If you’re ready for the next big bite – Raymond E. Feist and Riftwar Cycle – It’s actually a bundle of trilogies, but are set in the same universe, timeline with recurring characters and the characters kids growing up and going on their own wild adventures.
Riftwar cycle is so good…
Eh, I got bored by the end.
Too much recycling of character and story tropes.
My girlfriend read every Feist book while I was reading WoT. We still have a bunch of them at home – I don’t know if I can be bothered filling in the gaps where she borrowed from library/friends though.
I remember Reilly visiting my school to give a talk on how he writes his books… His approach is essentially to start the book at 11 and keep it there until the end. Enjoyed his earlier works when I was younger, but now they’re just fatiguing – they make me appreciate the peaks and troughs that other storytellers use. I wonder if it’s because he’s got worse or because I’ve grown up…
I think he’s a victim of his own writing style. Every book tops the previous books in terms of the premise, action and set-pieces. His later stuff is just so over the top that it kind of gets fatiguing. With his earlier stuff, they were action-packed, but ever-so-slightly more grounded in reality than his more recent stuff.
I’m also pretty keen to give Brandon Sanderson’s stuff a go – his writing at the end of WoT was excellent.
Oh yea, Brandon Sanderson’s writing in WoT got me interested in his other works – the Mistborn and Stormlight Archive are really cool, as are a lot of his one-offs – Warbreaker, Elantris (omg, love the tone of that story), Rithmatist… I love his logical approach to magic systems and mysticism, and how they’re all unique.
Not entirely sold on the Reckoners series, tho, but that’s likely just cos it’s so different from his other stuff. Good setting, cool premise and well-told story.
If you end up liking his Mistborn or Stormlight stuff, you might want to look into Patrick Rothfuss’ The Name of the Wind too, if you’ve not read it – where Sanderson treats magic as a science, Rothfuss’ skirts the border between a science and an artform.
If only he would finish writing it, that trilogy would be great.
You could try out some Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn’s a nice trilogy, you could start into Stormlight Archive if you wanted as it’s only two books in (but be aware the first half of the first book plods) but he’s also written a few decent stand-alone fantasy novels as well. Elantris is quite good.
EDIT: Should read the whole conversation.
I’ve only read the first Mistborn book, but it’s quite good
It’s a really solid trilogy once it gets going. His follow-up trilogy is really good too, though very different (it’s basically somewhere between a western and Victorian London sort of setting, but with the addition of his magic system).
Stormlight Archive is his new big fantasy epic and it’s even better. Fascinating world and really interesting setup, plus each book is intended to be focused around one or two characters. The second book’s even better than the first. It just has a very slow start – took me a good half of the first book to get into it.
I think the best things about him as an author is that he’s very structured. You can tell he spends a lot of time in planning on his work, and it shows. All his stuff is stand-alone with a proper narrative arc from beginning to middle to end. They conclude well. Even the trilogies etc. may leave some threads open, but you feel like you’ve gotten a really meaty piece each time. Stuff doesn’t just sort of stop (my biggest issue with the Wheel of Time after the first five or so books is that it got really meandering and tended to just stop at the end of each book). He tends to be less descriptive than some authors, preferring to develop characters through action rather than description, so stuff moves along at a fast clip but it can sometimes be a bit brief on characterization. The biggest thing though is that his carefully planned approach makes him hugely prolific. He’s got his next couple of years planned out and seems to put out a new novel every 4-6 months.
I’ve seen people criticize his approach to magic systems but as an engineer they tend to appeal to me a lot more than most. He likes to have well-defined rules for everything and never contradicts them. Makes them feel like a proper explainable system. No hand-waving. You always know what someone can and can’t do. He subverts it by coming up with creative uses or combinations of those abilities, rather than inventing new ones to do things when it’s expedient.
The magic system in Mistborn was quite cool, and he’s quite a good action writer, very filmic. I want to see
Kelsier vs the Lord Ruler in the squarewith a $100m effects budget.
It’s weird, but the way that he describes action stuff reminds me strongly of anime. I’d be stunned if he hadn’t watched a bit in the 90s especially. There’s certain stuff that his characters do and the way stuff is described which feels very much cast from that mold. Guy’s only 40 so he’d have been in his late teens / early 20s when the late 90s/early 00s anime boom was at its height and he spent 2 years in South Korea from 1995-1997 as well.
I’d love to see Mistborn done in live action with a good budget. Or a decent game in the setting. Feel like you’d end up with something almost like Gravity Rush.
I spend a lot (A LOOOOOOT) of time reading fantasy novels thinking about how I’d shoot scenes if I were in a position to do so. How the lighting would look, changes to dialogue to make it work better on screen, what the goddamn ballroom scenes throughout Mistborn would look like, so on and so forth.
And yet, there’s only a single fight scene in the entire Mistborn trilogy that I have any mental grasp over (it’s a biggun, spoilers), and yet I agree entirely with your (and Neg’s) point.
Very strange for me, lemme tell ya.
Welp, got another three bosses down in Dark Souls, but getting my arse kicked repeatedly and effortlessly by the next area, so not sure how I should proceed.
Screw the Crystal Sage and Wolnir… Sage had me getting up and finding a pile of clothes to punch lest I break a controller – such an annoying boss. And Wolnir just kept killing me near-instantly for new reasons for about six or seven tries. Get too close? You die to fire. Get too far back? You die to fire. Be near his hand when he casts his smoke? You die to fire. Try to clear the skeletons? Your swings go harmlessly through them… and you die because you’re surrounded by adds, or you die to fire cos you were too focused on adds and didn’t see the boss casting his smoke, or because he knocked you into the darkness.Did get to try the new stuff in Destiny – loving the new loot system, and love that the Challenge of Elders is pretty forgiving this week. Started soloing it on my Warlock on Saturday, and was joined at the final round by a friend (who was about 22 light below the enemies in that room…); we finished it without any real difficulty. Soloed it on my hunter the three times I needed to complete the scorecard and got her to 323, then did it on my titan a couple of times… need to do it once more for the final 7k points for the scorecard, but got him to 325, and that card will get me a 326+ gear piece to bring my warlock up. Still haven’t touched the heroic strikes yet… will probably get to that tonight.
As far as Ds3 goes.
Irithyll taught me to be patient again. Those first knights annihilated me too. You have to be patient, learn their moves, get the timing down.I would stay just beyond their range, dodge left and close around them when they lunge and strike once after they whiff their big combo past me.
Also, what weapon you using? After extensive testing I’ve found Strike damage really does do significantly more damage to armour than standard. A bit more than thrust.
I now switch between my fire katana and the Executioner’s sword depending on the enemy.
Currently using a Fire Greatsword +4.
It’s freaking useless against those guys because even the fastest attack is about the same as their “recover time + attack time,” tho the fire seems to stun them fairly reliably. Having a bit of difficulty judging their range, too… If I try to stay out of their melee/lunge range there’s no way in hell I can hit them, and then I have to deal with magic flying at me. Have tried dodging behind them to attack their rear, and got off a backstab once… but generally their combo just does a 180 (well, more accurately a 90 degree turn and catches me in its wide arc) and continues to track me.Considering I may have to respec into dex and upgrade a polearm or maybe the Wolfslayer’s Knight Sword just to be able to hit these guys fast enough or from sufficient range… Or find some way to cheese them to hell and back with arrows 😛Yeah speed is a thing in this one.Try upping the executioners sword. It does strike damage so excellent against armour but unlike 1h hammers it actually has good range – small greatsword size – but with the same kinda attack speed and stamina usage of 1h weapons. Can’t infuse and ok base damage but it has decent str scaling.
They are most open to an attack at the end of their long combo. If you keep strafing left while blocking, they will start to miss you on about the third swing and finish with you facing their side, open for one fast attack then dodge backwards.
edit: spears are great but dudes like that are good at dodging the stabs.
Thanks. Might try that.
Getting the feeling I’ll need a fast alternative to my GS… Exec’s GS seems to be just a lighter version of my GS – half the stamina usage, half the damage. Probably a good thing – easier to get a hit in, less risk of overcommitting. Alternative might be trying to go for pure speed – if it’s the fire that stuns them, my Fire Longsword+3 might be a better choice if I can get close without getting slaughtered in the attempt. Time for some experimentation.I used a black knight greatsword the entire game, i suppose post game ill eventually switch to the dragonslayer great axe(didnt buy it first boss soul mistakenly) seems after the fume sword nerf its the next cookie cutter weapon.
Cutting grass – not too bad.
Cutting waist-high grass – Deserves a paddlin’.
hahah I had to do that at my old place. The back yard was super terrible. So much so, it killed my dads mower. Had to get a pro to do it, and he had to bring in one of those big ones they use on the back of tractors to mow the parks! :0
Seems like the latest batch of AU Rifts is being held up by customs. Dammit get out of the way!
BONUS ROUND of..
NegativeZero’s Anime Impressions
Watching the new season so you don’t have to
Kuromukuro
Thank god for fansubbers. This has been licensed by Netflix and it’s streaming on Netflix in Japan, subtitled. But only in Japan. Us dirty foreigners have to wait until the show’s done. So naughty subs are the only way right now. I went in with high expectations – it’s PA Works’ anniversary show, and the first time they’ve tackled Mecha. First episode down, it seems really promising. It feels like it’s hearkening back to some of the 90s mecha classics. Got some strong Evangelion vibes and even stronger Escaflowne. I don’t really know what’s going on, but it seems that in ancient times, there were robotic ‘Oni’ that terrorized humanity, but they went away for some reason? And now humans have discovered some of them buried deep in the ground (or maybe they’re the robots that were used to fight them off?), and excavating those has triggered the Oni to return. Also one of them seems to be a warrior that’s been kept in suspended animation and wakes up when the protagonist touches his weird cube capsule thing and he seems to misrember her as being a princess from his time or something. All very mysterious. Very good animation (PA Works), solid cast, interesting plot. Pedestrian music but you can’t have everything. Straight onto the regular watch list.Anne-Happy
Or unhappy if you prefer. Basically it’s a stupid fluff show about a bunch of girls who are in a class where all the students are incredibly unlucky. Except it’s a fluff show instead of being satirical or comedic, so don’t go in expecting something with a dark edge to it like eg Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei. It was generally pretty boring, actually. I feel like when you have a good Iyashikei like Flying Witch, there’s really no reason to want to watch something like this as well. Unlikely to watch more.Big Order
Promising premise let down by mediocre animation and awful dialogue. The setting is post-apocalyptic to a degree. Some weird fairy-like chick grants random people an ‘order’ which gives them some kind of special power. But Orders are generally reviled by the population, and Our Hero even more so because his power nearly destroyed the world. But then it turns out that his actual power is to gain dominance over any area or something and he’s going to fight some random organization and I completely lost track of what was going on. It’s a mess. The original manga it’s based on is quite popular, same author as Mirai Nikki / Future Diary and it has a similar feel. Down to the creepy chick that wants to murder the main dude. But really, it’s not good. I don’t think I’ll see more.Wagamama High Spec
4 minute shows need to stop happening. And I need to stop downloading them. Waste of time unless you want to see big-boobed anime girls randomly strop to their underwear because the air conditioner broke. That’s the ‘plot’ of episode 1. And it’s 4 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. The run of big earthquakes in the South of the country last week delayed the broadcast of the first episode of the final series I had my eye on, Sinbad’s Adventure, which was a spinoff of Magi (which I quite liked). A few others (eg Kabaneri) were delayed or rescheduled as well. The damage in Kumamoto looks pretty bad too. 🙁 Two huge earthquakes only days apart. So they have way more important things to be doing than bothering with anime.
Oh! Previous part here. Has links back to the earlier parts.
If anyone cares, my regular watch list for this season is currently looking like:
– Flying Witch
– Asterisk War S2
– Hai-Furi
– Jojo: Diamond is Unbreakable
– Kotetsujou no Kabaneri
– Kuromukuro
– Kuma Miko
– Macross Delta
– Re-Zero Kara Hajimaru Isekai Seikatsu
– Sailor Moon Crystal S3
That’s probably enough as it is, but I may also add one or two of:
– Twin Star Exocists
– Bungou Stray Dogs
– Joker Game
– Endride
– Mayoiga
– Seisen Cerberus
Depending on how viewings of the next 1-2 episodes go.
Watched another couple of episodes of Mayoiga and yep, this is a regular. Kids arrive at the isolated village where they’re going to ‘start over’ but there’s no one there. The buildings are all empty and there’s about a year’s dust over everything, but the fields are full of crops and well tended. And there’s something watching them from the surrounding forests. And now it seems like one of them (who admittedly was an utter jerk) has disappeared. It’s got all the makings of a really good horror so far and I expect there’s going to be some Lord of the Flies shit pretty soon too.
Also three episodes in and still really digging Macross Delta. Feels like Frontier a lot, except I think that Freyja is far more appealing than Ranka was. Ep 3 brought back the classic VF-1A Valkryie for some training dogfights and I still fucking love that design. Only Macross Plus’ YF-19 trumps it IMO. Frontier and Delta’s are cool but not as good. The new VF-31 looks more like Kawamori’s designs for the Supersylph in Yukikaze or some of his Ace Combat aircraft. Based on the kids yelling it, it seems like Fire Bomber is still popular, which makes me wonder if there’s any chance of crossover – I would fanboy so fucking hard if Mirage went to visit her aunt Mylene. Also as a side note, it’s kind of cute that most of the characters have first or last names pulled from aircraft (Prowler, Bucanneer, Mirage) or pilots from the early years of flight (Immelmann, Nakajima, Guynemer, Messer).
Very much still digging Hai-Furi. A lot of the description early on leading into the show made it sound like it’d be an Aria-like slice of life thing, but it’s not that at all. Two episodes in it’s miles better than the Kantai Collection anime ever got to be. And then I looked up the staff and I understood why it’s appealing to me so much. Original creator was Takaaki Suzuki, one of the co-creators of Strike Witches and involved in Girls und Panzer and Upotte as well. Everything clicks. It’s setting up to be quite similar to Girls und Panzer as well.
I don’t know how realistic it is for a Destroyer to be able to execute a screw shot on Graf Spee but it’s good TV. Also not sure why the Spee stops shooting at that point and lets them run. The Deuschland heavy cruisers had the same triple-barrel 28cm guns forward and aft and even with their screws damaged they should have been able to continue to lay down fire at the retreating destroyer. I guess they hid in smoke on the way out. This show is basically what I had hoped KanColle could be.Oh damn, I need to check out Hai-Furi then. All of those creator credits have me very interested.
It’s the shakiest of premise. Basically Japan invested heavily in hydrate mining or something which caused terrible subsidence and half the country to slip below sea level. They started living on floating cities and using warships as ferries and stuff but to show the other countries they were all peaceful only women can serve on the ships. Oh and it seems like aircraft don’t exist somehow. There’s no carriers in the fleet at all. Which is great because it sets them up to have WW1-style gun battles with WW2-era ships.
It is about as thin a premise as competing in the time-honored, noble and feminine sport of Sensha-do. But whatever.
By the end of the first episode it’s turned into Starship Operators. The destroyer’s crew of twee teenagers have been labeled as rogue after somehow sinking their instructor’s Independence-class LCS with what should have been a dummy torpedo after the ship had opened fire on them with live ammo. It seems like there’s some kind of plot going on behind the scenes and presumably the destroyer with the misfit crew that all barely passed the entrance exam will end up saving everyone.
P.S. We’re also getting new Strike Witches this year. Spinoff with a different cast. Looking forward to that a lot.
Hey everyone. I made another shirt. In fact, I made two.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING TAY!
Last song played game time
Famine Wolf by Between the Buried and Me – a fantastic song from an amazing album
Probably one of my favorites of all time
What did YOU listen to last?
Sonic 2 OST – Sky Chase Zone
Escape your fate – EliteFerrex, so darn good this guy’s work.
Wolfmother – Woman.
Simply @redartifice – Fairground
I spent several hours chillaxing to Solar Fields albums last night but I couldn’t tell you which one was last.
Solar Fields rock
I’m quite looking forward to the new Mirror’s Edge soundtrack. Nearly zero interest in the game but shove that music down my side-oriented headholes. Just hope they don’t ruin the best piece by having some tart wail boring lyrics over the top of it again.
Conversation? Anyone? I don’t have any starters…
Umm…
Remember Wiz n Liz?
No, but I remember Wizz-Fizz.
No starters? Bulbasaur is best starter 🙂
With a Totodile Main Course. ;P
I haven’t really liked any starters since after totodile and the gang
Get with the times, Snivy & Froakie are awesome!
My problem is their aesthetics haha, I just don’t like how they or evolutions look (shrugs)
You eyes they broked
Probs are mate, probs are 🙂
To be fair to my eyes there is a pokemon in X/Y which is just a set of car keys, admittedly a fairy, but still a set of keys…..it just seems less imaginitive than the original 151 (I guess that’s nostalgia to go along with my greying hair) also I guess they did use a lot of good ideas on the original 151, unsure of course if it would continue.
Also to be fair to my eyes, it’s usually the starters that I dislike and then really like some of the other pokemon in the newer games (Roselia anyone?)
You are 100% correct about the car keys, but Pokemon design has always been about being recognisable.
Think for a second how lazy the design of ditto is & how so many look similar or are just birds.
My biggest gripe with the new stuff isn’t the keyring, it’s ones that look like & fill a similar role to an old design. Do we need more normal rat/dog types or more bird types, really?
@spaghett
@jimu To be fair there are a lot of types of birds and dogs but you are right there.
Maybe they need to branch outside of basing them on real things? Thoughts?
A la genetically enginered like Mewtwo?
They’ve done a cyborg bug recently, was a bit shit though.
Every gen has its poopy ones.
There’s been a few different ones, like Bisharp (power rangers) & Golurk (giant robo), that I really like.
Cyborg bug? Awesome, wait it’s that ant right? Still cool in concept 🙂
@spaghett Genesect, it’s ok http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Genesect_(Pokémon)
@jimu
See this is my broken eyes again but I don’t like how it looks, I probably should catch pokemon just based on looks though 😀
Since when?! Charmander ftw!
Bulbasaur islove, Bulbasaur is life
Charmander is a dinosaur with a flame on its tail that evolves into a dragon! Bulbasaur is a walking flower =P
Walking flowers rock, case in point, Roselia 😀
Cyndaquil and Fennekin would like to have a word with you…
Bulba! Bulbasaur!
What about Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses becoming the frontman for AC/DC for the rest of their current tour, crazy eh? 😛
That is certainly…interesting.
I hope it works, for the fans’ sake.
Should be interesting. Axl does a pretty good AC/DC cover from what i’ve seen. Actually Angus Young joined Guns N’ Roses on stage the other night at Coachella for err A Whole Lotta Rosie I think it was.
Ok Tuesday TAY shot! Now that we’ve gotten over the slow period of this year what games are peeps most looking forward to in May? Me personally is a cross between Uncharted, Total War and Fire Emblem!
Who you callin’ slow?
Man. Ain’t nothing that matters but Star Fox. Except maybe The Climb.
For me it’s Battleborn, liking what I’ve seen of it so far, and the gear system is pretty neat and well designed as to not be a “rich get richer” like other games of this type fall into (The higher your level and more items your account has, the stronger you are, but not so in this game’s case). This might be my go-to FPS if I’m ever going to throw myself back into playing FPS regularly.
Fair enough; I was curious about the game but a Moba with that price-tag just turned me off =\ Actually more interested in Paragon, any thoughts on that one?
Yeah Paragon seems interesting. I’d be keen to try a beta.
Well you get all the characters unlocked off the bat, unlike something like LoL for instance which is free-to-play. I think of it as a more premium Super Monday night combat, which I did really find interesting for its time. Paragon I’ve looked at as well, but I don’t like how the builds (Or build card deck) work in that game, you have to commit to a build before the game even starts, if it ends up not working out, or you misunderstood how your character works (Bad item synergy with your character traits) you’re kinda screwed until the match ends.
If I remember correctly the decks are kind of hero-specific like you don’t have access to the full list of cards for every hero but instead like a recommended set that you can mix-match to build a custom sub-style? I really liked the verticality to the game, i.e. the right most line is the highest lane with the other being subsequently lower allowing for top down ganking along with the usual moba stuff.
Let me know your impressions on Battleborn once it’s out, might pick it up in a discount.
Yeah I will, no worries, hopefully ping won’t be horrible :/
UC4. Followed by No Mans Sky in June. Mirror’s Edge too whenever that is.
And I’m Pile Of Shaming at the moment as well.
Yeahhhh No Man’s Sky, man I can’t wait for that game =O
It is truly a good time to be a space gamer. Elite: Dangerous is turning into a really good game as well as a good sim. Star Citizen is coming along nicely, and could be amazing (in a couple more years). And NMS looks very clever indeed.
Mirror’s Edge is mid-May.
Then then, then!
😀
Stellaris in May then NMS in June is my radar.
Don’t buy heaps of games these days, just a few great ones.
Shit wait is Stellaris in May as well? Oh man my wallet’s so screwed…..
Uncharted 4 I guess. Pretty sure it’s the only game I’m getting in May. For me, March was overwhelming with releases and April’s got a ton more, then May is the light month and June is the next one with heaps of stuff.
Nothing til June
Monster Hunter Generations.
Hoping it’s out before late June.
Uncharted is finally coming out? Then that, I guess, assuming I buy any games this month.
By biggest anticipated titles for this year are Mafia III and Gears of War 4, both due in October. Until then I’m chipping away at my pile of shame.
A Jedi’s Justice
Bhen Kenobi stared at the remains of bodies. The old man heard a rumour that the freed slaves who had carved a thousand doors into the walls of the canyon were no longer trading with the Sand People of the Western Badlands. They were dead. It’s strange that he had not sensed it. Thousands of lives taken unnoticed. Most had been ignited by a high energy weapon that had burned their bodies until they were little more than carbon scoring. Bhen looked back along the narrow Canyon. A single pilot fighter could fit the gap. Whoever had committed this atrocity had flown the length of the canyon over and over, killing every living thing that moved. The sheltering homes carved from rock by the hands of free people were scared with carbon. The very air had burned, ignited by the energy. Imperial forces would have deployed stormtroopers to mop up and yet there was no sign that this had occurred. All the killing had been done from a small, one-man fighter. Bhen continued down the length of the canyon until he reached the opening to the Badlands. A few of the victims had made it to the edge of the Badlands. Bhen Kenobi reached out with his senses. The life was faint. A rock overhang and beneath it a single survivor.
“It’s all right. Here…water.” Magh Rghn stared at the old man in dust brown robes and smiled against the pain in a last sign of gratitude.
“Who did this?” Magh Rghn felt pain just thinking the shape of the fighter: Bhen listened as Rhodium described the shape of the craft. Triangular. Three wings. A T-16. They didn’t come with weapons. A modified T-16. There were a half dozen of them out at Toshi Power Station. Magh Rghn died. The lightsaber activated. Bhen Kenobi held it firmly as it’s blade forced slowly into the stone of the canyon wall and then along cutting a groove in the rock some two metres in length. Again the lightsaber cut into the rock fifty centimetres above the previous cut. And now, the lightsaber cut grooves downward to link one cut to the other. Bhen Kenobi used the force to crack the rock from its place. There was now a shelf. The old man placed the body of Magh Rghn on the shelf and moved the stone back into place sealing the beggar’s Tomb. The lightsaber cut away the overhanging block creating a smooth surface. The old man could do nothing for this last survivor other than bring the justice of the jedi to the perpetrators.
Toshi Power Station was little more that a salvaged reactor from a republic star destroyer. Bhen Kenobi looked at the cluster of T-16s, some under repair. A group of younglings were working on converting old speeders into speeder bikes, now sitting on their sides and a rider’s saddle straddled the top. Their ingenuity and craftsmanship was refreshing. It was something Bhen Kenobi hadn’t seen in a long time. The upper gantry of the old reactor was occupied by a group of young adults watching the kids. The T-16s were more their speed. Which one had unleashed this slaughter? The sensation of despair came from everyone on the gantry. Bhen looked at the T-16s. They were all dusty. Their wings folded vertical in landing. There. A wipe of his hand confirmed it. Oxidation produced by a gas leak from a faulty surge connector. An imperial weapon to be sure, but this one was recently removed.
“Don’t go messing with my T-16 old man.” The guilty party had arrived.
“Like to cut down the Rhodians out at beggar’s canyon do you?” Bhen Kenobi ignited his lightsaber.
“What do you care about a nest of womp rats?” Qen Darklighter fumbled his blaster just missing the old man as the lightsaber took off Qen’s arm at the armpit. Qen collapsed on the ground.
“Who else?” Bhen pressed the advantage.
“We all do it.” Bhen turned to confront Qen’s friends as they closed firing their blasters.
They all did it. Bhen Kenobi deflected the blasts back at the murderous vermin now looking for a fight while younglings scattered on their makeshift speeder bikes. Bhen Kenobi cut the murderers down before returning his attention to the one armed man struggling to crawl for the cockpit hatch of his T-16.
“Did I say you could leave?” Qen Darklighter sat up against the hatch and again found a lightsaber in his face.
“Now, where is the weapon.” Qen surrendered to a certain realisation.
“Biggs. Biggs took it.” Bhen looked skyward, a familiar feeling drawing his attention. The tiny silver grey shape of a star destroyer firing on a small transport vessel. Imperials. Bhen returned his attention to the felon at his feet.
“Where can I find Biggs?” The one armed man at his feet was dead. Bhen deactivated his lightsaber and walked into the dune sea.
The sentences are too short and not so smooth flowing with one another. There is also quite a lot of information to process within just two paragraphs.
Check out my blog or fellow Taybie Shane’s works for some tips. 😀
I agree with @benny’s advice and did a little editing to see if I could make it flow a bit better and put a bit more variety into the structure. I don’t claim to be a good writer by any stretch, but thought it might be useful to see someone else’s edit.
Ben Kenobi stared at the remains of bodies. The old man had heard a rumour that the freed slaves who carved a thousand doors into the walls of the canyon were no longer trading with the Sand People of the Western Badlands. They were dead. It’s strange that he had not sensed it, thousands of lives taken unnoticed. Most of the bodies had been ignited by a high energy weapon that had burned them until they were little more than carbon scoring.Ben scanned back along the narrow Beggar’s Canyon and surmised that a single pilot fighter could fit the gap. Whoever had committed this atrocity had flown the length of the canyon over and over, killing every living thing that moved. The sheltering homes carved from rock by the hands of free people were scarred with carbon blast marks. The very air had been burned by the energy, leaving behind the taint of ozone. Imperial forces would have deployed stormtroopers to mop up yet there was no sign that this had occurred.
Continuing along the length of the canyon to the opening to the Badlands, Ben discovered more bodies, a few of the victims had made it this far. Reaching out with his senses, Ben detected a faint life source. A rock overhang sheltered a single survivor.
“It’s all right. Here…water.” Magh Rghn stared at the old man in dust brown robes and smiled against the pain in a last sign of gratitude.
“Who did this?” Ben enquired as he reached out with the Force to soothe the man’s pain. From his wounds, he doubted death was far away.
Magh Rghn felt pain just thinking the shape of the fighter: Ben listened as Rodian described the shape of the craft. Triangular, three wings, a T-16. The T-16 is not designed with weapons, so it had been modified. Ben knew there were at least half dozen of them out at Tosche Power Station. Having held on long enough to impart his story, Magh Rghn drew his last breath and his life faded. Ben gently set his body against the hard ground and rose to his feet, drawing his lightsaber. He pushed the energy blade slowly into the stone of the canyon wall and then along cutting a groove in the rock some two metres in length. He cut again into the rock fifty centimetres above the previous cut, followed by two downward strokes at each end. Finally, he will the Force to pull the rock from the canyon face and set it aside leaving a hollow shelf. The old man placed the body of Magh Rghn on the shelf then moved the stone back into place, and with a final stroke of his lightsaber he removed the excess rock leaving a flat plane, sealing the Beggar’s Tomb.
Tosche Power Station was little more than a salvaged reactor from a republic star destroyer. Ben Kenobi looked at the cluster of T-16s parked there, some under repair. A group of younglings were working on converting old speeders into speeder bikes, now sitting on their sides and a rider’s saddle straddled the top. Their ingenuity and craftsmanship was refreshing, something Ben hadn’t seen in a long time. The upper gantry of the old reactor was occupied by a group of young adults watching the kids. The T-16s were more their speed. Had one of those men been responsible for the slaughter? Ben could sense a strong despair from everyone on the gantry.
Ben approached the T-16s, briefly examining each one in turn. They were all dusty, their wings folded vertical in landing. There. He stepped forward and a swipe of his hand against the hull confirmed it. Oxidation produced by a gas leak from a faulty surge connector. An imperial weapon to be sure, but this one was recently removed.
“Don’t go messing with my T-16 old man.” The guilty party had arrived.
“Like to cut down the Rodians out at beggar’s canyon do you?” Ben Kenobi ignited his lightsaber.
“What do you care about a nest of womp rats?” Qen Darklighter fumbled his blaster and fired a single shot, just missing the old man as the lightsaber took off his arm at the armpit. Qen collapsed on the ground.
“Who else?” Ben turned to face Qen’s friends as they dismounted from their gantry, drawing their blasters.
“We all do it.” said one, and as if on cue, the group started firing.
They were all guilty. Ben Kenobi twirled his saber with practised skill, deflecting the blasts back at the murderers while younglings scattered on their makeshift speeder bikes. The killers that were not crippled by their own blasters were cut down by his blade, and the melee was over in seconds.
A sound refocused his attention to the one armed man struggling to crawl for the cockpit hatch of his T-16.
“Did I say you could leave?” Ben closed the distance to Qen and levelled the tip of his lightsaber at the man’s face. Qen Darklighter pressed his back to the hatch of his vehicle, his face turned away from the iridescent blade.
“Now, where is the weapon?” Ben pressed. Qen surrendered to a certain realisation.
“Biggs. Biggs took it.”
Ben looked skyward, a familiar feeling drawing his attention. The tiny silver grey shape of an Imperial star destroyer firing on a small transport vessel. Ben returned his attention to the felon at his feet.
“Where can I find Biggs?” Ben asked, but the one-armed man was dead. Ben deactivated his lightsaber and turned his back on Tosche station, walking back into the Dune Sea.
Just throwing it out there, I assume this takes place immediately before the events of A New Hope, based on the framing. I didn’t change any of the dialogue you gave him but I feel like the Ben Kenobi we saw in that movie was a very peaceful man who would regret any kind of violence. I can see Ewan MacGregor saying this stuff, but not Alec Guinness. Just something to bear in mind. Otherwise, I liked the idea behind the story, and I like the way you built on the established world and lore.
Does anyone else miss dinoking?
Ernie award.
I feel for someone casting about to earnestly try to discuss anime with others.
But there were… some social cues which needed some work, there.
Anime attracts some… interesting people.
I remember one message board I was on a long time ago where there was a guy who had built an entire belief system for himself out of two primary sources which were quote unquote “inspired by god”, Evangelion and the ill rhymes of the Wu-Tang Clan.
@pupp3tmast3r
Looks like WoW finally got its Legion release date at August 30th, so basically a little over four months away, what do you think? timing is a little crap for me but a late night or sunday guild might work for me… dunno. still considering it yourself?
Ummm *looks around nervously* so yeah I resubbed like a month back and I’m well and truly back in the thick of it >.< Probably be raid ready in a week’s time for some casual runs until legion comes out. That said I’m starting a CFA in July so Sunday’s will be the only day I can raid so if that’s your timing works with me as well.
Yeah I saw you playing, just figured you were screwing around in Tanann jungle, easy to spend a disgusting amount of time there.
Hopefully whats planned will be fleshed out closer to date.
Yeah…. Not so much messing around as levelling a new toon from scratch =P
Legion actually looks to be shaping up quite well; really keen on checking out the artifact weapons system. Let me know if you jump back on, chances are I’ll probably run into you in Overwatch before legion though.
Yeah I hear you hence the primary focus being joining an existing group or guild, I for one will probs be raiding every Sunday if you guys are on we can go it together.
IF, big if, people are interested I’ll consider a casual organizing of a group or guild but I won’t be on like I was so at best it’d be organizing a time and managing strats. My preferred way to play would be to join an existing guild/group though.
Oh and @jocon
Lol. You can quit anytime you want.
Yeah, that’s what some alcoholics say about booze, too.
Dammit jo! It’s not that easy ok?!?! They have artifact weapons in Legion!!! for every spec!! How cool is that! And demon hunters!
Also truth be told…. if I remove all the running a guild/raid drama I actually enjoyed raiding and progression.
Yeah, was good fun.
If you guys jump into Legion I might tag along as well. Probably won’t be able to do any real progression if only Sunday raiding though.
Here we go again!
With progression I’ve noticed Blizz are taking it slow with their content releases? Hellfire Citadel has been out for almost a year, that’s one raid over 3 difficulties for one year. Even with 13 bosses that’s an unusually long time by Blizz’s old release schedules.
So even if you spent 2 weeks learning one boss you’d still have enough time to do it twice for mythic mechanics.
Only problem of course is gonna be finding people.
I assume you don’t want to start your own guild again so it’d be a matter of finding one to join that runs that kinda schedule.
But I’m up for giving it a crack. Will probably roll a Shaman this time – I suspect rdps and heals will be in short supply in Legion.
Assumption correct, I reckon we should be possible to find a casual raiding guild that does sunday’s.
If enough people are interested come legion (i.e. 7 or 8) might run a casual raiding guild, but if it’s just you me and red we should be able to find one easy enough.
@pupp3tmast3r no replies left =(
Isn’t that the problem we had coming into WoD? we had the numbers(refering to the 10 or so Taybies we had) but in the end barely anyone was reliable, maybe that’s not the right word. invested? probably better for our time and mental health to avoid this.
@os42 Any luck with those knights last night?
I managed to finally down Aldrich, bad positioning being my problem, and spent the rest of the time exploring the Jail and Smouldering Lake. How bout others? @freezespreston @transientmind ? How’s your run going?
Pretty boring myself, did some trophy hunting got myself master of infusion and two other covenant related ones, then realized every other either requires ng+1 and ng+2. now I have the choice to either scrap things up and start ng+1 or rank up my covenants.Congrats!
Not yet; wanted to do a bit in Destiny before the reset potentially upped the difficulty of the Challenge of Elders, then a friend hopped in so we finished his scorecard, so never made it back to DS last night.
I’ll give those knights another go when I get back to it – I’ve got a couple of ideas to try to kill them quickly before they start their combo chains – but kinda want to investigate that area @distantdrop mentioned below the catacombs, not the least because of the mention of large titanite shards.Yeah, I got him on the weekend, too.
I was having some trouble soloing, ended up bringing a phantom in to down him. It’s just… infinitely easier when you have someone else taking all the agro on that rain of arrows. I’d already finished the Lake, so really the only place I have available to explore is the jail. I’ve got to the giant there, which was about the point I turned back to level up; was carrying WAY the hell too many souls. Spent the rest of the time paying it forward, sun-bro’ing bosses.I should really do more sunbroing. I’ve never really got into the co-op much but damn if I’m not grateful to the guy who helped me clear the Deacons.
Oh yeah, any time I clear a boss I try to sunbro it for three or so folks.
Something I SHOULD be doing is dropping my sign whenever I enter a new area. It’s kind of cheating, in that you learn the area without any real risk of losing souls, but once you’ve beaten an area, it seems like you never see summon signs anymore, so it’s kind of a decent way to help people out with tricky spots getting to shortcuts that they might otherwise be running into a brick wall for. I know those greatbow archers fucked me up for a good half-dozen deaths.
I should probably drop my sign for some of the bosses I’ve finished.
Want to buy the Abyss Watcher gear set – it looks cool as hell. Wasted 10k on the Sage’s hat, only to find out my UGS clips horrifically through the brim, which I completely overlooked. 🙁Oh, and I guess souls for stats would be good to have, too.
Fashion Souls.
I’ve found a good compromise between looking good and defence with the fallen knight armor, turban helmet and suitability matching pants/gloves for my dark skinned old man toon.
Currently rocking the evangelist’s hat with the herald chest and sellsword gloves and legs – can just squeeze my shield and greatsword in under the 70% roll threshold with my current load. I’m pretty happy with how it looks for now, tho I’m fairly certain the stats could be better.
Noice.
How much Vitality do you have cause that is a very short hp bar for that stage of the game. I’m sure your Estus probably can heal 150% of that.
@jocon – iirc I was sitting at around 16 VIT in that screenshot… was primarily focusing on STR to use the GS. I’ve since invested a couple of levels more into VIT, and have started noticing that one swig from my estus no longer gets me back to full health (gives me maybe 80-85% of my unembered health), and nowhere near what you’re describing…
@jocon – Defeated the knights! Oh, and am sitting on 21 VIT… but Vigor governs health, and that was sitting at a paltry 15. It’s now been bumped to 18, meaning it takes three of those knights’ swings to die instead of two. \o/ Pity their combos can basically chain together ad infinitum… but made it to the next bonfire by booking it past them and exploring. Also did some jolly cooperation and got some new duds. Progress!
FASHION SOULS. I found the elite knight set and really like it, but the Lothric knight set is too good. I’m switching in some cathedral knight pieces as I gain equip load, but man the chest piece is ugly.
I really wanted to wear the Lothric knight chest, when I found it – the cape is so cool – but it puts me over my roll threshold unless I forsake most of my other armour. Hell, when I first tried to use my greatsword, I had to use sorcerer gear and leave my bow unequipped just so I could roll.
You definitely need to be using all your armour slots. Vaati Vidya linked to some analysis of how armour is calculated and it’s apparently super important to have every slot filled – even head.
Yea, I remember reading that a naked person receives something like 50% more damage than a person with terrible armour in every slot, which is why I opted for near-complete sorcerer gear over Lothric chest and nothing else. Also, my character is so ugly, I need a hat to obscure her face 😛
Downed Pontiff Sulyvahn last night. Was worried based on so many people struggling with him but smashed him first go. Then spent the next few hours Sunbroing the shit out of him until I had ~130k Souls and figured time for bed. I am getting real tired of people summoning me then hiding in the corner leaving me to deal with it solo though. They have 200% health and higher attack and defence, I’m not that good, contribute to your own game already. And don’t send snarky messages when I do die since you did nothing >:|Heh, I hear there is a covenant where if summoned you can either help them or kill them.
That could be handy for those people.
It’s so weird, I’ve got dozens and dozens of sunlight medals but I’ve never encountered that.
If anything, it’s more frustrating when the host dies. That’s what I’m there for, hostbro! Hang back a little and play cautious – Sunbros are meant to sacrifice their lives for the host if need be, so the host can live and win! When hosts needlessly rush in and die early, it’s very sad.
Your totally correct, at very minimum you should both take turns with the bosses attention maybe people are more concerned they’d die and end up annoying you.
I’m at
Abyss WatchersGot a hell week so prob won’t get back on until Friday
Are the banners at the bottom of the page now displaying gifs? Because that’s completely playing havoc with my work connection.
What is with the sudden recurrence of gifs these days? There’s a reason we stopped designing web pages with them ten years ago…
Combination of the decline of flash and the desire to still have shitty advertising banners that flash at you to draw your attention.
Gifs have no place mixed into web content – they just distract the eye and make what little content there is harder to read – but Gawker has a huge boner for them 🙁
Woo, got cheap opening night tickets for Captain America!
Captain America? There is a new Captain America movie? Or did you mean Civil War, the Iron Man movie where Cap turns into a terrorist?
Dunno, haven’t seen it yet 😛
omgwtfbbq you mean you haven’t already read the source material it’s adapted from? What kind of person goes to see a 3hr movie which condenses a six month plotline with cross-overs from over a dozen different series? Film casuals! There should be an EXAM you have to pass before you can buy a ticket! GUH.
…That hurt to type.
I am so casual I haven’t even watched the trailer 😎
That’s kind of impressive and takes an actual effort. I have a feeling that if I hadn’t already seen it a million times, Gizmodo would’ve sent someone around in the dead of night to pin me down and stream it directly into my taped-open eyes.
The greatest effort involved was scrolling past the article posted on here about it. Which was even easier do since they generally seemed to have a spiderman gif as the thumbnail.
So i just looked at my Redbubble analytics for maybe the second time ever. I haven’t made a shirt in well over a year – but holy cow, i’ve made over $700 on there in my entire time.. I had no idea.. it tends to only be $20 blocks.. but wow… i need to make more shirts once Uni is done, me thinks.
What’s even more staggering is I have sold 227 items in total – with 70 of those being my Lord Sheppard design… My god – it would amazing to stumble across something one day in the wild..
This was a great watch. I love how differently everyone copes with the situation.
Poor Kirsten though. She didn’t do so good.
Tuesday, bring on the weekend already
We have an apartment inspection Thursday so we were at the apartment last night tidying up.
We haven’t slept in it together in like 2 months, been living at Sam’s mums before she died and after.
This weekend where her mum lived is a council clean up (as in it’s the earliest we can put stuff out to be collected next week)
Bring on throwing furniture out and breaking bigger things into smaller things
Also some Stardew, potentially some Division as well
I have a problem with crabs.
The bloody things are making a notable part the road of sacrifices a bugger to explore. Anyone got some tips for killing the big ones with a melee build? I figured out that they burrow after a while if you attack from land, but I can’t seem to do reliable amounts of damage without either dying or at least being savaged. I’m doing okay with most of the other enemies but these ones are giving me hell. Is there anything I might be doing wrong or are there elements they’re significantly vulnerable to?
Most reliable tactic.
At first I thought this was a TMI post.
So. Crabs… I’ve found this works: Sword and board. Hover around their front left (smaller claw) with your shield up for as long as you can (for the sudden strikes that aren’t telegraphed) and patiently circle around them so they can’t face you full-on. After they swipe/slam, give them a tickle with your weapon (just one, don’t get greedy), then put the shield back up. If you’re low on stam from a low-stam build or repeated attacks, leave the shield lowered for a few seconds after a swipe to let stam regen. Don’t waste stam on rolling – they strike down, and the range is too wide.
You get a chance to do REAL damage any time they start frothing up at the mouth to bubble-stream. Get behind them/ to the side for that and you’ve got several free seconds for a good flurry of hits. And if you can do enough successive hits, you’ll stagger them, causing them to fall down for a bit, exposed to more strikes.
Mostly they just require patience. I don’t know about specific elements or whatever. They’re called ‘greater crab’ on the Dark Souls wiki, but it seems to be down right now.
(If I’m ever in doubt about annoying enemies, I add either bleed or poison to my weapons.)
I cannot stress this point enough cause I wish I had realised earlier myself:
Strike Damage is king.
Some enemies, like the crabs, are nigh immune to all physical damage but Strike. This also goes for the Catacombs skeletons and anything made of rock or metal.
Strike is also the best damage type against foes wearing armour.
So get yoself a hammer and switch weapons as needed. The Executioner’s Sword is my recommendation.
Tactics aside, Freeze is actually right. You shouldn’t actually need to fight them and can in fact just run away. They don’t block anywhere off in particular; they’re just aggressive and in the way. But if you run far enough out of the water, they turn back.
I imagine it’d be kinda fun to leave them alive and then use the giant tree seed on invaders, though. The invaders are more often than not gutless shits who hide in clumps of dangerous enemies, waiting to draw you into unfair fights that you didn’t start. Watching them get surprise–slammed by stealthy crabs as you approach would be a glorious thing.
(I love co-op, but Invaders shit me. Especially ones who double-team you. Although I have, on a few occasions, met some invaders who were gracious enough to bow and then wait for the existing shitfight duel to be over. Except that one guy who bowed and waited, then when I started to look like winning, quickly rushed in to help so he wouldn’t have to fight me alone. Which made sense, because he was a squishy-as-hell clothie who was nearly dead after a three straight-sword strike combo. Still… Poor form.)
Fairly sure you can by a shampoo for that. Clear it right up.
Dark Souls 3:
Slow goin’.
But… I think I want to keep it this way. Pip’s a few hours ahead of me and I’m seeing her discover it all for the first time, then in my next play through the same area I’m unearthing all the little things – an item here, an NPC there, the occasional bonfire.
Now, while I normally hold that whole ‘first playthrough’ blind experience sacrosanct, I’ve gotten that experience from Demon’s, Dark, Dark 2 and Bloodborne already. This is her first. While we’re both uncovering all the things as a kind of shared experience, I’m feeling quite happy to see her do the major stuff like those first boss encounters, figure out the puzzle and overcome the challenge. I don’t feel like I’m missing out if it’s not me doing that.
Plus she gets frustrated at my patient ‘grind my face against a wall’ approach of running a boss 20+ times just to figure out all the patterns. My play style is not quite so viewer friendly.
So, uh, I know I only uploaded stuff in the last two days but I haven’t really had any feedback on the shirt designs and it’s making me rather anxious and kinda depressed.
I plan to do LOL ones next but now I’m feeling dejected
The designs are nifty but not the kind of thing I would wear (I mostly wear plain or band related Ts) so I have not commented.
If I was to critique I’d say I’m not a fan of designs that have a colored background area that the main design is then on (such as the yellow circle of the Solitaire shirt). I think the T itself should be the background.
Probably doesn’t help that this place is so dead not too many people see your stuff anymore 🙁
The reason for the coloured background is just because it gives me a little control. For example, you can put it on black, where as it wouldn’t work on dark T’s otherwise.
Another option could be have the figure in black on light color shirts and a white version on dark ones. Or perhaps make the background the silhouette of something specific that he is standing in front of – a castle or big dead demon or something.
I dunno, just throwing out ideas since you asked.
Also, I like the more detailed sun version best – it’s more clearly the Solitaire sun.
If I knew more about dark souls, I probably could. I didn’t play much of it despite owning it as it makes me motion sick.
I plan to do some Lol things which I also know nothing of. It just makes it harder, y’know?
It’s not my thing, but I think it looks neat.
Thanks. I’m sorry. I’m not sure why it was making me so down.
Do Dota ones instead! \o/
Meh, fair call, more TAYbies actually play DOTA2 over LoL, I’d never be one of them but the facts are the facts.
https://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/50053799.jpg
I did take some weeks to try it out, I never had fun with a single game, I was always the one that ended up feeding and not being able to contribute to any fights and by what I saw, there was nothing I could do about it either other than mess it up for everyone else by trying to farm another lane. The proverbial “straw” moment was when I was getting CC locked and killed while trying to get last hits with a ranged character… from an enemy that was behind their own creep wave, and it’s a targetted stun so no way I could avoid it (If I remember correctly it was a Sten/Chaos Knight duo lane). So I literally couldn’t even farm with a ranged character. I was actually getting more gold afking at the base, never picked up the game again after that.
Oh man no one was helping you? That’s rough. There are tactics for avoiding that (for example, you can manipulate where the creeps are in the lane with a bit of practice to let you farm more safely, pull creeps into the jungle to reset lane equilibrium, things like that).
I remember the first time I played, waaay back in ’04. I had no idea what I was doing, to the point I didn’t realize recipes required components and had an inventory full of recipes that did nothing. Luckily I was playing just with friends, and they showed me the error of my ways (with much pointing out my noob-ness).
If you ever want to give it another go, give me a bell – I’ve helped a few people with their first MOBA baby steps, and I’d be happy to show you the ropes.
Doubtful, I’m completely demotivated to even look at it on Steam anymore, I deleted it years ago. I respect the amount of depth the game has, but if I’m not even enjoying the learning (Or lack thereof cuz this game tells you literally nothing, real trial by fire) experience of the game. Lots of items in the store I had no hope of ever getting cuz I never had the accumulated gold to even afford them before losing that same gold due to powerful CC abilities getting me killed in an unavoidable fashion. Yeah I can stop CC with black king bar… lovely, can’t ever afford to get one though. When I’m earning more gold sitting at base, going for a coffee and coming back, there’s a problem.
Edit: You know that feeling where you’re just not able to do enough to turn any fight in your favour and feel completely useless in your team as a result? I was that guy every time.
Ah well, if you change your mind let me know! They added in some tutorials a while back to try to make it a bit more newbie-friendly, so it’s not as bad as it used to be. And like I said, there are tactics that you can use to avoid nasty combos like the Sven/CK double stun (disjointing, picking certain heroes to counter it, positioning, jungling, stuff like that). Even if you didn’t want to play straight up, I’d be happy to run you through a few games and show you how to do stuff like that.
Games like Dota are pretty brutal when you’re new – I think the consensus is that you need at least 1,000 hours before you’re any good, and I’m still learning new stuff despite playing it for over a decade – this is both the best and worst thing about the game.
I know nothing about Dota. I’m doing the Lol ones because I told Techie I had the idea of a pulsefire Ezreal shirt, thinking he would probably like it. He then asked if I would consider making two others.
You don’t need to know anything about Dota, just Pudge.
Step 1: Make Pudge merch
Step 2: ????
Step 3: Profit.
Where’s @Cody ?
Feeling just kinda out of it right now.
Tried to play some Starfox 64 and Donkey Kong Country to get out of the rut, ended up going and having a nap instead.
Naps fix everything. Except nocturnal panic attacks.
They fix everything else though
Just saw Iron Maidens set list they’ve been playing on the Book of Souls world tour 6/11 songs off their new album have made their way into the set, that’s pretty awesome. Can’t wait to see them live, which is now only 2 weeks away!
I was tempted to get tickets, but I already ticked them off the bucket list at Soundwave a few years back and I haven’t gotten into BoS yet… but good gawd, for a bunch of geriatrics, they can still rock!
Tickets are half price too thanks to some Soundwave deal with ticketek you know you wanna 😛
We ended up procrastinating and not buying tickets until it was cancelled, so no dice 🙁
Oh damn that sucks. I must’ve got mine just in time then lol.
Yus! Can’t wait! This will be my fifth time seeing them in all, plus it being so close means that my trip to NYC is that much closer!
Fifth? Damn you! It’ll be my first. I hate myself for not going to Soundwave in 2011 when they were last here.
When they announced the tour in 2008, it had been the first time they’d toured in over 20 years, so I just about maxed my credit card buying Gold floor tickets to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (plus flights/accom etc.)
Then I saw them at the Soundwave sideshow in 2011, and now this year in Sydney 😀
Haha, I was gonna go to the 2008 Somewhere Back In Time tour buuuuuut that was during year 12 & it was a week night so I couldn’t really justify it. Saying that I considered going to Melbourne for another Maiden show, but can’t afford it now thanks to work screwing me over 🙁
Hey @liondrive can we know what that thing that happened the other week was yet? 😛
THIS POPCORN IS STARTING TO GET STALE.
It’s still good though.
Urgh, fine…
So a couple weeks back now, while I was at work, I was helping a customer out. He would have been about my age, super gay too.Anyway, as I was helping him he had his camera in his hand kinda awkwardly faced towards me. I didn’t really think anything of it, but next second the phone camera flashed at me…
He took a picture of me!
Anyway, I took a video of the security footage and showed some friends, because I was a little creaped out. Now, I don’t know how, because it totally wasn’t me who did it (totally), but the video made its way to Twitter.
Now, I didn’t really think all too much about it, because it was just a dumb video, but apparently NineMSN loved it, as did the Daily Mail, and a handful of other places, including YouTube, some New Zealand site, and then I stopped following it because I freaked out and thought I was going to get fired :3
To be fair, it was hilarious.
Hahaha, wow. Now that’s some popcorn-grade story right there 😛
Fair call on being both creeped out though, and freaking out too.
Anyone playing the PC port of Dark Souls 3 on older hardware? Wondering if my old 670 OC is going to utterly choke on it or not. It really struggled with Tomb Raider earlier in the year.
Going to upgrade at some point but waiting for nvidia to pull their finger out and release the 1080.
I so so nearly bought an MSi 980Ti last month. Then I decided to wait, sort my study/gaming den out, and treat myself to a megasupernextgenvidia card – it’s looking like July/August from the rumour winnowing I’ve been doing.
But then, I have a 680 which is a wee bit better than your 670 and played RotTR pretty well.
What’s the CPU like?
It’s sounding like the 1080 has been done for a while. Rumor is Computex reveal in May, general release in June I think? Photos of reference cards have started to surface and everything.
I’ve got an i5 4670k (3.4ghz quad Haswell). It should be plenty enough for me.
I should mention that I have a 1440p monitor so ‘struggled with Tomb Raider’ means ‘I had to drop it to 1080p at some combination of medium & high quality and turn off extra hair processing to avoid framerate dips’. It’s a nicely optimized game if you got the Steam version. 🙂
I’m on an OC 670 as well, also on a 1440p monitor *high five*
I’m waiting for benchmarks at the moment, I’d like a 1080, but I’m also hoping AMD pulls a rabbit out of their collective hats to really stick it to Nvidia this time around, especially if the performance in DX12 is going the way it has so far.
Even if AMD got an edge, I wouldn’t buy one. Their drivers are just horrible. Have an AMD GPU in my work machine and the drivers crash 3-4 times a day and at one point even their installer crashed so I couldn’t even update. 🙁
I used to have pretty bad problems with them, back when I had a 6950, but I’ve not heard of anywhere near as many issues occuring since the Crimson drivers started appearing.
Yeah, it’ll have to have been to give mfrs time to get product ready for market. Even if properly released in June I reckon it’ll be July/August before there’s much stock in Oz. Saving my pennies at the mo.
Mine’s older. I7 980X. Still a bit of a beast, even though long in the tooth. Gonna eek it out as long as possible.
OK, I was doing Tomb Raider at “Optimised settings” at 1920×1200. Low AA and textures and models weren’t maxed, but it still looked very pretty and mostly smooth. Really enjoyed it too.
The Dark Souls of Board Games kickstarter started…
Already more than four times what they asked for with still over 3 weeks to go. Hopefully this ends up being as good as the hype suggests
Gotta give them credit for the timing!
165 bucks? Fuck off.
I mean, miniature heavy combat game is not my thing anyway, but that price seals the deal.
Man those mini’s look pretty though; I’d pay $165 just to buy them and paint them =O
THERE’S ONLY ONE GARGOYLE HOW CAN I RECREATE THE BELFRY GARGOYLES FIGHT? 🙁
Yeah it’s fucking expensive. 🙁 Just barely can justify it. Problem is the funding’s in fucking GBP.
And because I am a total hypocrite, I’m looking seriously at another licenced game that launched today https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evilhat/the-dresden-files-cooperative-card-game
Good mornin TAY
Last song played game? Last song played game!
Crush’d by Say Anything
How are you all this morning?
What was YOUR last song played?
Eight minutes of the Yoshi’s Island Athletic Theme by The Spoony Bards. Stupid autoplay when looking up something else last night, and now it’s stuck in my head.
Hahahaha
I’ve recently purchased Yoshi’s Wooly World and am loving it, but cannot tear myself away from Stardew Valley
Woolly World is what I was looking up when this happened 😛
Nearly done with it, just beat Bowser last night. Dreading what horrors await in 6-S…
Sia – Academia
I’m feeling pretty good. Got a 2nd interview with a company that rejected me for a role because they were concerned I’d “get bored”. They’ve asked to see me again because a more senior position has opened up.
That’s great news 🙂
Square Nothing – In Flames.
I really like their newer stuff (although their last album seemed a bit off), but their classics are just the best. I have decided I am listening to IF all day – starting with Clay Man and Jester Race, then their more recent stuff. I also just realized I don’t have Whoracle or Sountrack To Your Escape on my PC, and this needs to be fixed.
Morning = mixed. Got a heap of work done, then realized there was a mixup in communication and all the work I’ve done over the last couple of days was totally unnecessary /o\
You’re Mine – Disturbed… really weird tone for them. This one makes them sound like an emo N-Sync… Listening to it, I can picture David Draiman dancing along like he’s in a ’90s boy band, jazz hands and all 😛
Blues Traveler – Crash Burn
Peeps planning on getting a VPN sorted this weekend and was looking at PIA. Anyone have experience with these guys or have a better one to recommend? Also question regarding VPN’s is it something I can switch “on and off” with ease?
I have PIA. Switches on and off fine, but mine stopped working with Netflix so I’ll cancel it.
Aw man are you serious? Netflix got PIA in their blanket blocking? You haven’t found any workaround or alternative?
Haven’t looked too intently, tbh. Worked one day, then stopped.
Used them, got really significant slowdown with it running though.
I have PIA and use it a lot. My NAS has a constant connection to it and I use it on my laptop and desktop periodically when browsing sites I’d rather not show up in ISP logs (let’s just say there’s a place that’s like a harbour where corsairs and privateers might gather). I also use it to VPN into DMM from Japan periodically if I want to spend some money in Kantai Collection and it works well for that too.
Never had any real issues except periodically my NAS used to lose the connection, not realize it was lost, and then time out all the things silently until I noticed nothing was working right a few days later (my privateering is fairly automated). I think this was actually issues in QNAP’s VPN client though. Haven’t seen any issues at all since I upgraded to firmware 4.2
So… bit the bullet and decided to give up on the laptop. Going with Lenovo, as they had a special on their i7 T460s. No dedicated graphics this time, cos I never played games on my laptop anyway, and I’m somewhat sure the regular bluescreening was at least in part down to the Nvidia drivers that [I was using]/[Nvidia’s software suggested], which likely contributed to the quick death of the SSD.
I think my boss can see the writing on the wall since I came in today wearing a tie for my 2nd interview with a prospective employer. He made a point of how when the teams integrate in this office I’ll be getting moved to a “pod” (basically a proper cubicle next to a window instead of a regular desk). Pods are typically reserved for seniors, but there’s still no mention of my actual promotion/more money to go along with my increased responsibility, which is the reason I’m looking around. Couldn’t really give a toss where I sit.
He then reminded me about their flexibility and understanding, about how I have opportunities to work from home when needed, etc. such as when my wife is having surgery (which has been postponed til June). Finally, he said he’d “be leaning on you guys” (broadly referring to the more senior team members) for training on our systems etc. because he’s still busy with integration issues and needs support – which as always I am more than happy to provide because I’m awesome like that.
But this isn’t stopping me shopping around.
Good for you man
He promoted a dip-shit over you for the worst possible reasons and tried to console you with a carrot that didn’t exist.
Fuck him, and fuck anyone else who was involved in that decision-making. Offering carrots that don’t exist is unequivocally a dick move. There is no excuse.
Well he didn’t promote the dipshit yet. And she isn’t getting a pod, either. The pod does cement my seniority to an extent, meaning when there are carrots I will have a lot more justification to demand one. But I do take issue with him dangling a carrot then at the 11th hour saying that actually giving out carrots isn’t a business priority, and I need to sit tight indefinitely for more carrots to appear.
As you said keep shopping around, workplaces like that never realize what they have until they lose it.
Oh, I thought the promotion had already happened.
Still. Hypothetical carrots are still fucking shitty things to try and manipulate people with. It’s dishonest as fuck.
Huh. Still haven’t used those Lego tickets, and thought I only had a couple of weeks left to do so. Looks like the exhibition’s been extended to mid June though, so I could procrastinate for a whole lot longer.
Was considering using them to test the waters with Aerialist though, see what comes of offering an invitation. Maybe. On the other hands it feels like it’s completely against the advice of my friends 😛 I dunno.
It’s 1:17pm and this headache won’t go away
Still, I’m looking to duck out the door at 7:30 and I can’t wait
@tech_knight @popdart5 @blaghman
Sorry gents, work function on tonight so no Numenera. Would much rather be RPGing.
All good Red, it’s my final night before recall hits so I’ve now got a night of League of Legends with the guys 🙂
Also Red regarding the issues Roll20 keeps hitting you with every week, did you want to look into alternative voice comm methods and using Roll20 purely for the interactive area of rolling and maps? Given what I know, we could do Hangouts again or Steam’s voicechat as ones available to me anyway.
Dang. Always next time for us to get our sci-fi on.
Okay, new page so important announcement – We’re planning on booking the Backlot for this year’s PAX meat, same place as last year. Given that there was overwhelmingly positive feedback on this joint last year, I think it’s only fitting we keep using this place as our meetup point as it works with everyone’s requirements (Bar/Karaoke). I also heard that you guys may want a table to potentially run board games on? If so, we’ll be asking to see if we can procure one from the Backlot, if not, might have to be a BYO, in which case I’ll look into a way of making that possible.
We’re still trying to get the numbers together so I can’t confirm how much it’ll be per person yet, so this is just seeing how many are interested in coming.
To all TAYbies, I call upon you all to please express your interest if you wish to come to the PAX Meat of 2016.

Yes. I go.
Yeah, am keen.
Yes. A thousand times yes!
So you’re Mr Bingley now. Accept it.
Wait… who and why? 😛
I think it is a reference to this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1374989/
Or this…

Me no money
I’m out again, sorry.
I’ll have my brother-in-law with me on both days of the weekend, and he’s only 12.
Keen to catch up with peeps at the show, though – maybe have a couple of TAYbletop sessions.
Thinking of bringing conquest and relic along if they don’t have it in the borrow section for anyone interested in playing them, as well.
I’d be really interested in trying Relic, never played that before.
Neat – that means i would only need to fill one more seat. Be prepared to waste up to 4 hours of your life. haha
I’m sorry, Wahammer 40,000, and wasting hours of my life? Pfft try that miniatures thingy they do, that’s already taken days and weeks of my life 😛
hahahaha more than fair point
Wait what?? Your brother in law’s 12?? What country did he marry your sister o.0
Nice. *slow clap*
So what, I’ll have Tiglet with me.
I am getting my loops hugs at PAX then, if you are going to be holding out on me
Well A. he’ll have a kerfew. and B. it’s a bar, so underage drinking could be an issue 😛
WOO TIGLET!
Take the kid home and sneak back? It’s what @tigerion did last year
Relic is basically Talisman with a 40k twist, right?
Exactly. And much better than talisman – not as slow paced and not as many boring bits – they’ve tweeked it really well
Also for anybody reading this, I think it’s safe to say we’ll do DapperMeat again, won’t look at organising it properly until closer to PAX though so just pencil in the Friday if you’re interested.
For those who didn’t attend or aren’t aware, DapperMeat was our chance to dress up and pretend to be adults for a night, with steak dinner @ Squire’s Loft Docklands followed by ALL THE GIN @ Gin Palace.
Remember: Dapper is a state of mind, not a state of dress, so suits / dresses are NOT a requirement, just a suggestion. You’re a requirement. Yes you. The one reading this. If you don’t come the whole thing is off. There. I said it.
Oh crap. Guess that means it’s cancelled then. Sorry guys, didn’t mean to spoil it for everybody.
Let’s get him!
Yay DapperMeat. What is the age requirement for Gin bars, Tiglet was too small last year but she will be 2 this year so I think that will be fine
I’m in like gin.
Yarp.
Yes yes yes yes gin
I’m also not 100% sure if I’m coming this year. Leaning towards not, but then I changed my mind at the last minute last year too, so [shrug]
hopefully I can make it again this year – was fun meeting random TAYbies last year 🙂
No PAX for me. 🙂
worst
But what about Pax Meat DC? THey’re totally separate!
Also no! 🙂
But how are we going to get our yearly dose of vitamin DC?
PAX North?
I’ll doubly confirm with the husband, but I’d say we are a yes
Admit it you’re getting a thrill out of using the word husband, aren’t you, mr recently wed
It was weird to say, two weeks ago I was still saying boyfriend (to much hilarity based off my friends) but it’s becoming more natural now
Count me in, but I’m cursed when it comes to PAX so odds are I’ll be stuck somewhere else doing something boring when the time actually comes.
Too late! You’re on the list! =P
Interested x2
I’m in like sin.
No PAX for me.
Booo!
Not me, sorry!
You never come. You’re just the worst =P
Given 4x babies, I’d say the opposite! Heyoooooo!
Put me down as a maybe, wont really know until closer bht no problems paying first and if i cant make it someone else can go in my place
Told @scree I’d be up for it.
I can also front costs for one or two peeps who otherwise may not be able to afford it.
I wish I could go 🙁
Maybe we should skype you? =P
If anyone has an old PS2 slim gathering the dust & it still works, please send it to @rocketman for a secrrit prujekt
I’ve just got a fatty…
And an original PS2.
And now I do too, thanks.
http://imgur.com/gallery/rDw6KEN
Shame i’m not at the Salvo’s anymore. We used to get one or two PS2’s a week. Also shame I don’t have any of mine anymore.
i promised @rocketman ages ago id have a look cause i had a spare slim sitting somewhere. only thing missing was the power brick but im sure he probably has a few laying around he can match up… will try remember to look through garage tonight & weekend. Tweet me a reminder rockets!
If you find it check the back before looking for a power cable. If I remember correctly it should just be regular figure eight cable. I can’t remember any Playstations using a proper brick.
there were 2 models of the ps2 slim. one that used a figure 8, and the other used a power brick. been through so many of these things, i used to get bulk lots and sell them all the time…
Apart from most of them, right? Cause of all the slims i’ve come across they’ve all required the power brick. Never came across one with an internal AC to DC converter sadly.
Yeah, wasn’t that part of what made them “Slim”? They removed the internal converter and moved it to a power brick.
Yeah. They later re-designed the slim to include the AC to DC in it, but I found those hard to come across 2nd hand for some reason.
Welp, I am now the owner of a new digital camera.
Was doing some photos for where I volunteer last Friday, and it got me back in the shutterbug mood.
I’m trying to consider some good areas for nature photos…
Lots of really nice coasts and beaches down your way
DERK SEARLS
Swarm bosses can fuck off back to Demon’s Souls 1-1.Such a missed opportunity to do something unique and interesting
Deacons? Yeah, I have no shame in summoning help for that one. More irritating than difficult.Exactly. Not difficult, just lazy design.Greatsword or polearm – anything with a wide swing and decent knockback, really – works wonders. Only real concern I had was the black magic that can fly through walls. The constant body-blocking seems specifically targeted at aggravating pure magic/pyro users 😛 Crystal Sage, otoh… screw that guy and his mates’ great soul arrows.I feel precisely no guilt about bringing in a co-operator for Crystal Sage. They Sunbroed goodI ran crystal sage 10-15 times, figured out the patterns, went within one hit at one point. Then once it basically came down to good RNG and I had no further learning to do, I just summoned a friend and we blitzed it without taking so much as a scratch.Same. Came within one hit maybe 8-10 times… had to get up and walk away to calm down 3-4 times, lest I break something. One great soul arrow flying at you is easy to dodge; two is harder, but doable; three when they’re coming from all directions is down to being able to take one hit; four is pure RNG. As soon as I summoned for it, it split the aggro and we cleared it out without taking any major damage.Yeah I was using the katana. Just couldn’t cleave my way through the wall of goons fast enough.I didn’t have much trouble with the sage. I worked out on my first test attempt that playing it safe was a no-go. So I just put away my shield and went full on aggressive and downed her on try 3.
Ah, that explains it. I was wondering why players who are better than me were struggling with such an easy boss. Turns out my stab it up a bunch and maybe dodge sometimes tactic just happens to be the bosses weakness. =P=p
Man, I thought the Deacons were a treat after the hassle of getting there. An easy ‘gimme’; a mere formality of a ‘boss’ before noting that our horribly deformed princess is in another castle. Just roll and slash, roll and slash. Stay close enough that you don’t get melted by fireballs, far enough that all their pathetic wand-stabbing results in them flailing at air. Roll, slash. Roll, slash. Not to mention finding the bastards… Spent an hour wandering around the church specifically avoiding that area before I realised it was the only option. Classic Dark Souls – the first encounter with those titans taught me to steer clear of them; then they put the path to progression right through their legs. The first bit was fine. But then when he actually appears and is surrounded by fatboys I just couldn’t clear them fast enough. By the time I cleaved through the 4 ranks of chaff to get a hit in, he’d force push me out of the pack, I’d have to chug, then the ranks have closed and I’m back to square 1. I just took so long to get Damage on him they would finish their big curse and I’d instadie.
Just didn’t have a big enough weapon I think – not enough stagger/knockdown.
Yeah, I roll with the Dark Sword or the Executioner’s Greatsword, depending on mood and/or enemy type.
Executioner’s has a ridiculous amount of weight damage to it.
Yeah, I’ve switched to the Executioner’s as my main and loving it.
Doesn’t do the same DPS as the Dark Sword, and is much slower and seems to be slightly lower damage for its class… the dark sword may just be very, very good. (Especially for PVP.) But Executioner’s got reach and the weight is incredibly useful when it comes to knocking certain enemies on their ass.
Oh? I haven’t got a Dark Sword. The wiki says it has notably less base damage but it does have weird good scaling.
I like Executioner’s partly because it is strike damage – found it really makes a difference on some enemies.
edit: yeah apparently completely op broken scaling in fact.
ugh
I woke up with a killer sore throat this morning. I guess it was only a matter of time before I got sick, blergh
Don’t stress if it goes on till the weekend. I’m on recall this weekend anyway
I’ll keep sewing then. It’s not too strenuous.
So I’m taking a break from endgame in my first run through Blooodborne to play some Dark Souls 3. My blood pressure was getting too high, so I’ve clearly made the right decision… 😛
Hah, I am at the final boss of Bloodborne DLC and the final area before the final boss in the main game.
Finished off Yoshi’s Woolly World last night, making two 100% complete games in a row now. I’m on a roll 😛
I was surprised just how much it had to it, I wasn’t expecting much at all. Those S levels are great, although the last two were kind of disappointing in comparison to the earlier ones. If only Nintendo releases still came out on a Thursday like they used to, I’m all set for Star Fox now.
Hi people like @tech_knight and @chuloopa (ie 40k people).
So Techy, did you end up starting with some Start Collecting box(es)? I’m still impressed by the value of 40k of late (as far as hobbies go). And how is painting going? I saw a pic on your facebook when I sent a friend request, coming along well!
I’m having trouble figuring out what I want to start with for my 500 points 😛 So many toys I want to take 😀
I’ve got 498 points already planned out, just waiting on my final piece. I started with the Start Collecting Necrons box, which was 433 points if memory serves, and my final piece is 65 points. Given what this guy does, it’ll be a very vital addition to my small army.
Painting I’ll be continuing on tonight, I’ve now got the last paints I needed to finish off my warriors and lord, my scarabs are fully done.
Edit: I’ve yet to start my stalker, and I keep shuddering looking at it, that’ll take a LONG time to do.
65 points? Necron Cryptek maybe? 😉
… Fuck, I’ve been caught xD
Wouldn’t be a Necron army without 4+ Reanimation Protocols 😛 Going to have to figure out a way to get D-strength weapons in 500 points (hahaha, not bloody likely!)
Take 1 hq, 2 troops. ally imperial knight. hahaha
If I go Saly-mandos I can take the new hammer that lets me master-craft D-strength one attack for 50 points! 😛
Or your plan!
Soooo.. you probably wouldn’t be happy if i had a lascannon predator, then, hey?
I don’t actually know, how can you bypass RP? Aside from stuff that simply “removes them from play” and doesn’t wound to death? I mean, what are the actual rules for RP for that matter… 😛
Only “Destroy” or “Removed from play” bypass it, everything else will trigger it, even Instant Death
Ah, at least Instant Death is a minus 1. So that’s something I guess.
Please go easy on me at least for round 1 cuz I will have no idea what I’m doing, I don’t even have a copy of the rules so I’ll need to be taught everything. 🙁
pretty sure @f4ction copy he could send you – if he doesn’t I may actually still have it on my PC.
I don’t think I do, actually! At least not in any way I can send (I don’t have the internet!). Just my little softback that came with Dark Vengeance IIRC 😛
Don’t worry man, I haven’t played since 3rd edition and haven’t even read the rules for this edition! We’ll be fine (and I tend to avoid cheese tactics) 🙂
I don’t have the books either and I don’t really want to pay $100 just for my own set of rules. Considering how expensive everything else is, it’s a miracle GW even gets new players.
I torrent the books and buy the minis. I figure sometimes buying them from GW directly instead of re-casters and re-sellers means they still get value out of me.
Also, pics of your progress! 😛
I keep meaning to get around to actually painting my models. Most of my jetbikes are half completed with the unfortunate side effect that they look like KKK members. What I really want to do is deck out my war walkers and my Eldar jetfighter because there are so many options for cool designs and patterns. First though, I need to actually get good at painting before attempting something like that.
Nah, just start painting. You can always strip and re-do once you git gud.
Oh and @tech_knight, I’ll get the nametags this year =P
I’ve still got them here, I’ll have them in my bag all three days of PAX so I can’t forget
You’re on the ball!
I’ve used a few on stuff in my apartment, so I’ve got 37 labels left. If we get more than that coming to the meat, bring more
Hello my name is [REFRIGERATOR]
I want that to now be your label at Pax meat. Not Red, refrigerator
Redfrigerator
Perfect
Not Refredgerator?
@cffndncr hey did you know that catalyst and cataclysm mean different things? Apparently it’s vitally important that every commenter lets you know this.
Holy crap, how have I gone through life not knowing this? /s
I stopped reading after ‘cat’ and went and watched kitten videos.
That catafalque one was pretty good, though.
Yeah, I learned something today
Fallen London is an outstanding web-based text-heavy game. I hadn’t played it in a while, but got a notification from the team about their iphone app.
That game is so good, you guys. So good. The world-building is exquisite. The setting novel and fresh.
I keep thinking of how they could make a more… ‘video-gamey’ video game out of such a rich and detailed setting, that took you to more immersive levels, but something I’m realizing is core to the experience is the way they play with language. Text is critical not out of necessity for conveying information, but for setting and up-ending expectations in one vivid sentence. Superfluous embellishments, flavours of mood and tone exclusive to nuances in semantics are the result of very deliberate vocabulary choices.
It would take a visual/audio master to translate even a fraction of what makes that game so unique.
https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/fallen-london/id1056672891?mt=8
(The app itself is inferior to the browser version when on a desktop, but is much better than safari on iOS.)
Huh, cool. Might give the browser ver a shot.
Failbetter do great work. Have you checked out Sunless Sea?
Ohyeah, I was all over that in Early Access. Haven’t been as keen on it post-release because I actually preferred the initial combat system that they scrapped. But yeah, its stories are pretty great, too.
“I keep thinking of how they could make a more… ‘video-gamey’ video game out of such a rich and detailed setting, that took you to more immersive levels”
So like Sunless Sea?
I was thinking of something more immersive. While pretty, Sunless Sea’s world is essentially a very distant top-down satellite image view of the world, not a street-view kind of deal.
Also, the combat is naff.
Ugh, not even a week and Mum’s already managed to infect her laptop with adware. Somehow managed to be pretty much fine on all the others, but there’s all questioning about what this is and what that is and how do you fix it and vague descriptions of things that don’t mean anything and stop asking I don’t know anything about any of this.
I find making everyone use standard/restricted user accounts and not telling them the admit password really helps. My mum’s PC hasn’t had a serious problem since I did that with Windows 7. Although she does still find a way to break the speakers every other week. She’ll unplug them, mute them, turn the volume down without realising it, anything you can think of that will stop sounds on the computer she’ll find a way to do. I almost want to give her a custom computer that doesn’t have any sort of volume control just to see if she can manage to accidentally hack volume control into it.
Alternatively get her a tablet for Christmas. It’s expensive but if you’re lucky it’ll do everything that breaks her computer without any of the danger.
I wouldn’t know how to do that or what to do either >_> And then would have to go and offer assistance every time it tells her she can’t do something 😛
Also she just got herself an iPad too, when replacing the dead laptop with this one. At least that one’s safe, and I’m free of having to help with that at all because I know even less about Apple anything.
Greatest decision from a “I’m my parents’ tech support” standpoint was to, over the course of a birthday and Christmas, set them up with a tablet each. They hardly use their old laptop, and I get no random phone calls asking how to fix some random Windows issue. Win/win.
Yeah. Mum still uses her computer but not for all the day to day stuff that seemed to get her in trouble.
If you’re lucky they’ll already know how to use a matching smartphone. I’d already taught my nan how to use her Samsung phone, so transitioning her over to a Galaxy tablet was way more effective than any of the times I’ve tried to teach her to use a computer.
Yep, they had both been using Android for a few years, so they took to the tablets like a duck to water. Toss a Chromecast into the mix, and my mostly tech-illiterate dad can now watch Netflix on the lounge-room TV whenever he wants.
Get TeamViewer installed on her machine and yours.
Free remote desktop software – also has apps for smartphones (but if I remember right… you don’t have?)
I do not see how that will help at all, I will be just as clueless in front of my machine as I will in front of hers 😛
And have smartphone, but Symbian.
So tempted to buy a ticket to Black Sabbath on Monday night now that i’m not working..
BOAEDGAMES
Small World tonight. Started out with Bivouacking Orcs, successfully pushed back and blocked my friend’s Forest Humans using a mountain pass by just stacking all their encampments there. Next got Underworld Ratmen, and just swarmed all the caverns across the board. Other guy had Dragon Master Halflings though and was causing huge issues, along with my friend unknowingly misusing his Swamp Sorcerers to take any space on the board rather than adjacent ones. The Ratment were spread too thin and had taken too many hits, so it was time to abandon them but there were too many choices to pick from to replace them. At the top was Cursed Trolls with six tokens waiting on them. Then there were Mounted Dwarves which didn’t seem too great, so anything else was going to be expensive. Seafaring Kobolds seemed good, because they were plentiful and could take the uncontested sea areas. But having to leave two behind on every space made them kind of costly. Fortified Giants seemed like a potential winner, but stupid arsehole Halflings used their dragon on the mountain I was planning on taking, so didn’t really have an effective place to launch them and squash anyone of worth. So lastly were Pillaging Skeletons. Both with bonuses for taking occupied spaces, and they were plentiful. Managed to take out three Halflings with them, but got screwed over by the dice roll (that thing is cursed, zero every time) so only got one extra fighter. Realised on the final round there was no point attacking the Halflings any more because he’d already had his last turn and there was no way to make him earn any fewer points, so we all ganged up on my friend instead and took out a good deal of his Alchemist Amazons. Totally worth it, I beat him by four points in the end 😛 Still came third though, boss got 9 more and other guy got 16 more.
Good game, would play again.
…my monitor is faintly flickering.
Pls don’t die. I don’t want to have to live in yucky 16:9 land 🙁
…Wonder how long I’ve had it for. Actually wait, I have screenshots. Looks like the jump from 1280×1024 to 1680×1050 happened just over eight years ago 😛
What even is the point of today? Nothing to do but wish it was tomorrow.
Someone wake me if they break street date on Star Fox :p
What a shit way to start the morning 🙁
http://www.vice.com/read/prince-is-dead-2016-can-fuck-off
Yep. RIP, The Legend Forever Known as Prince.
Bowie and Rickman were not a great start to the year. 🙁
Good morning TAY
Last song played game
Captain Bumout by Cage
Great song, great artist, great album
It’s Friday
How are you all
What was YOUR last song played?
Plans for the weekend?
Prince – Get Off.
Yay, weekend! Helping Dad with logistics crap, chores, and probably a decent chunk of time playing Dark Souls.
We have a council clean up at the mother in laws next week so we can put stuff out on the curb this weekend, so time to throw stuff away and hopefully break stuff.
I may even imagine it’s cancer as I pull things apart 🙂
God I miss her 🙁
Cancer is awful but unfortunately it’s a fact of life still. Whatever helps you cope do it. Unless it’s hurting puppies and kitties. Don’t do that.
Wouldn’t dream of hurting anything but my fists or inanimate objects like cupboards
Then go for it. I hope she didn’t suffer though
We only found out she had cancer about a month before she passed.
Now we are just coping with life after, best mother in law ever.
She suffered pain, but it wasn’t long, and that’s the best thing
That is the best thing. There is nothing worse then seeing a loved one in chronic pain
Fuck cancer.
I wonder if his stuff will end up back on streaming sites now so I can listen to it again. 🙁
When Doves Cry – Prince
I have no Prince at hand to listen to sadly
I got an itch to listen to some Boy George this morning so I opened YouTube and listened to The Crying Game, followed by Karma Chameleon. Then I dozed off.
AOV – Slipknot
Weekend, well i’m working tonight, tomorrow night & Sunday, so work I guess! \o/
Whole Lotta Love – the mighty Zeppers.
Fuck this is a great song.
Conquer or Die – Megadeth. Love the progression of this song, the escalation…
Weekend will probably be split between chores, Destiny and Dark Souls – really liking the new loot system in Destiny, and Challenge of Elders is a lot of fun.
Olivers Army – Elvis Costello
My Aunts birthday/wedding anniversary dinner tomorrow night. Sunday with the family. Monday I haven’t decided yet.
Prince – Raspberry Beret.
Good morning everyone.
I just want to say sorry if I’ve annoyed people with my shirts and bookmarks and other things.
I’m just feeling a bit crappy due to the sickness.
Nothing to apologise for Scree 🙂
Creativity should be nurtured, especially when it kicks as much ass as yours does
Keep posting it 🙂
Sorry for apologising.
Chuck me a free Bob’s Burgers bookmark and we’ll call it even =D
Or, you know, just let me buy one. Or two. Or a billionty.
I would like to, but I need the money to let me print them up. That’s why I am making the shirts to make the money for the bookmarks
If you ever do like Starcraft, Hearthstone, Overwatch or WoW tees with your art style let me know. I’d pick some up in a heartbeat 😀
Overwatch maybe as I plan to play it. The other stuff I know nothing about
#pcmasterrace? or on a console D=
pc of course.
So after all the hassle of attending a second interview (which was more of a meet and greet with my future colleagues to discuss the role a little bit) I’ve decided to turn down the role. Instead of I went to my manager and laid out every single frustration, concern, aggression, issue I was having in explicit detail and made it clear I would not be placated by being told “soon” or that things are “out of [his] hands”. I made it clear that my promotion was long overdue and that I was tired of feeling like the goalposts were being moved every time I got close.
After the end of that while not entirely convinced anything will actually happen (they can’t formally promote me without promoting everyone who’s waiting for their promotions) they might, on the downlow, be able to slip me a little extra money as an incentive to stay. For all my bitching and moaning lately they’re not a bad employer, I’m comfortable here, and after throwing down the gauntlet yesterday I really believe that I’ve been heard which, when I really think about it, is all I actually wanted.
So, we’ll see what happens.
Had a blast last night in Destiny. Haven’t played as Voidwalker in a… well, since I did my Thorn bounty last February, I think… but Challenge of Elders has a grenade recharge modifier, and the changes to Voidwalker mean tracking scatter grenades that regen health and refund the grenade on a kill – infinite space magic! I think I killed maybe 5 things with a weapon, the other 350-odd died to grenades (and nova bombs). 😛 Can probably achieve something similar for my titan with Simmering Flames and Armamentarium…. not sure what I can do for my hunter, tho…
Good morning TAY
Tiglet decided to wake up 2 hours earlier than normal this morning so I’m struggling this morning. Was thinking about working from home today but I know she is going to be clingy and troublesome so I wouldn’t get anything done. The only question now is if I’ll get anything done in here.
So now that all the cards and nerfs for blizz’s new hearthstone xpac are out any preliminary thoughts from our regular HS players? @cfffndncr @redartifice @highperformance off the top of my head.
Goddamit @cffndncr
I’m still glad I quit playing, but the WotOG looks awesome =(
Regular? I’ve not played it for months.
Decided it wasn’t really doing it for me at all, wasn’t doing the things I liked about Magic (self expression, weird combos, social aspect)
I’m intrigued.
Sorry for the awful reply mate. I got halfway through a reply on the 22nd and lost my page 🙁
It’s interesting, I’ve not noticed too much yet but I’ve only reached rank 20 and stopped there in this round (before WOTG expansion) . I noticed a lot less people played Ironbeak Owl and heaps less playing the Knife Juggler, I’m running a Summoning Priest deck currently with Two Wild Pyromancers as my staples; I use a bunch of 1-3 mana spells and is especially good when I have ‘the coin’ to clear the board lol.
Get on the current TAY, I just made a post there =P
I’m working on polishing up a Fandral/C’Thun deck (helps I’ve been stockpiling dust for about 2 months).
Morning all!
So I finally bit the bullet and installed the StayFocused chrome extension. I have been having all sorts of trouble concentrating at work (including watching Twitch streams for hours – I know, I’m a terrible person). So far only Twitch, Facebook, Reddit and (egads!) Kotaku are on the block list, but I’ve already gotten more done in the last hour than I did in the first half of yesterday.
Unfortunately, this means I only have 10 minutes a day to spend on all those sites combined, so I might be posting here a bit less than usual. If it goes well I think TAY will be the first site to be unblocked a bit down the track – after all, you guys aren’t so bad.
Here’s hoping!
Man….. focus is for baby boomers and gen x’ers! We don’t need no focus! Procrastination and multi tasking FTW!
Good luck, focus is hard but important
Update #1. Mostly success – today was the most productive day I’ve had in recent memory… until I found out that my productivity enforcer plugin could be easily circumvented by using an incognito tab. Then I watched an ESL Manila Dota game.
So… success?
Good morning all, I’ve made my new start on Warframe and I’ve already gone past my original account’s progress. Gone with Excalibur with a Bow and Kunai. So very ninja-like and I’m enjoying it quite a bit. I am getting destroyed due to my lack of AoE when I’m out of energy though, so made interception missions very difficult I basically had to rush capture and just keep recapturing rather than trying to hold points. Now that only works if my frame is way stronger than the enemies I’m up against since time-to-kill times are much less due to the level disparity, when I tried an alert of the same mission type where the levels match up with me, I got absolutely destroyed, couldn’t even get one point and ended up losing.
I’ve been playing it entirely solo and frankly it’s been better, cuz last time I kept getting carried by other players while I was picking up scraps and that made the game really boring for me because I couldn’t keep up. Will be playing more of it though as I just finished constructing dual fire swords last night 😀
Interception missions and hijack missions are two of the missions where you’d probably wanna go with public match-making and still find yourself with something to do.
Yeah probably, I’m just worried I’ll get tagged up with overpowered guys and it just won’t be fun.
If it’s only for alerts or unlocking planet sectors, I’d reckon you just accept breezing through an easy five minute session every now and then just for the rewards, then back to your regular ninja power fantasy. 🙂
What it REALLY sounds like you need to do is gear up as much as you possibly can for the daily 4-part missions; the ‘sorties’. When you do sorties, it usually doesn’t matter how ridiculously OP your party is, because you’ll still end up being seriously challenged.
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Sortie
Fair enough, that sounds like a good approach, cuz I like sneaking around and sniping long range with a bow and arrow, they always get impaled on the wall haha. Sadly I can’t oneshot the cyborg guys with shields yet, but Grineer get one shotted in the head xD. (And the animations look kinda silly, since he never lets go of the arrow when disembarking the ship, getting back on the ship or even using a console, you just see this arrow clipping through everything lol).
Have you got a Loki or an Ivara yet? If you like sneaking and arrow sniping, you should totally build one of those.
Loki, when specced right, can do a 45 second invisibility ability for like… 28 energy, with a power max over 300.
And the way Stealth mechanics work, every time you kill an enemy undetected (as in another enemy doesn’t see or hear the death and become ‘wary’), you get an extra 100% exp bonus for future affinity gains.
I think it goes all the way up to a 500 or 600% bonus, which lasts for 20’ish seconds and refreshes on every new kill. So if you’re running around, invisible, backstabbing guys, you’re one-shot silently killing and even basic grineer lancer grunts end up giving you tens of thousands of affinity. GREAT way to level up weapons/frames you hate.
Anytime I want to level a melee weapon, I’ll take a Loki into a Spy mission (HUGE affinity chunks gained on every successful data hack) and rack up the affinity.
Other awesome stealth tools are getting a ‘Shade’ companion, which can stealth you for free anytime you get within a few metres of an enemy. Animal Instinct mod for companions adds an enemy+loot radar to your minimap, too, allowing you to see enemy patrols on the map and circumvent them for extra sneakiness. All weapons except shotguns can be fitted with a ‘hush’ mod which will make them silent, too. Just be aware that rapid-fire weapons that don’t kill in the first quarter-second will probably bust your stealth bonus chain.
I haven’t been able to get any new frames yet, I’ve only got Excalibur. I think last time I tried getting frame blueprints I had to get the parts for those frames yet I had no idea how to make those pieces to get even close to finishing it.
EDIT: I’m mainly doing stealth right now cuz I don’t have firepower, I have a bow, knives and a sword, so very very good for stealth playstyles. If I had more firepower like grenade launchers, shotguns, heavy weapons (If any exist), or something like that, I’d use that much more 🙂
The basic principle is you’ll get blueprints off the market for a nominal few thousand credits. The actual warframe parts (helmet, chassis, systems) will be random drops off various planet bosses.
Loki, for example, has his parts drop off the Hyena boss-pack on Neptune (Sector: Psamathe). Ivara parts are the reward from the data packets you decode in higher-level Spy missions. Oberon parts drop just about EVERYWHERE from Eximus units. Phorid drops Nyx parts, Raptor drops Nova parts, etc, etc.
You have to craft each part individually, with each chassis/systems/helmet generally taking around 12hrs to make, and once you have all three parts AND the base blueprint, you craft them all together to get the frame.
…Or you can just buy most frames outright.
@transientmind O_o… that sounds time consuming.
It is time-consuming! Unless you pay. Or get lucky. That’s probably why quite a few folks go blasting through on repeated runs with some OP mates, so they can actually get the drop they want to unlock a new frame without paying for it. If you go fast, it’s less time-consuming.
Once you’ve got some good frames and gear, you start getting into the ‘Towers’, too. Good gear to be had, there. Unique gear, like ‘prime’ weapons/frames. They’re like regular models, but better in most every way. You may even have picked up some ‘tower keys’ – unlocking those maps – as rewards.
If you pick up ‘prime’ parts from Tower runs, you can usually trade them to other players for platinum on the open market. That will let you spend the platinum on things like weapon or warframe slots.
I’ve unlocked two “I” towers through my level 1-3 and 4-6 level runs on Earth. Trying to complete as many missions as I can before I move to the next planet.
But yeah now the whole getting carried by OP mates has an actual use, that’s good to know 🙂
Tip with keys: Play with friends. Only ONE person needs to use their key to get the entire party access to the level, meaning that you all get more tower fun for your key value. 🙂
Well my list of friends in warframe is currently zero… wink wink nudge nudge! 🙂
So peeps long weekend! You know what that means! Ooodles of play time with 0 productivity!! (I wish… my Mrs will have me doing chores upon chores upon chores, remind why we seek out partners again?)
So make my weekend better by telling me about all the amazing plans I won’t get to take part in!
Giving blood and kicking off my modelling career on Saturday, playing Magic on Sunday, Board games and Pathfinding on Monday.
Also, sleeping at some point
I’m on recall this weekend so I’ll be staying home for most of it.
Assembling warhammer 30k/40k minis for me and maybe priming them at least. Otherwise watching all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and taking my doggy to the doggy park every day!
And going to Games Workshop to buy the last few minis I need.
What’s on your shopping list for GW?
It’s a secret! Can’t give away my plans 😛
Among other things, https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Space-Marines-Heroes and some primer spray. Possibly a vehicle. I have none in my Escalation army as it is at present 😛
This is an excellent weekend plan
I just wish I had a desk or some other workspace at my place at the moment D:
GUMTREE!!! \o/
I’ve got a desk, it’s just at my folks place still. Got to get it upstairs in my new place, eugh!
Oh man – upstairs is just the worst. When bee and i moved into our new place.. of dear god.. it sucked so bad.
We’re going to hire removalists when we eventually move out – no way i am taking that shit DOWN. I’ll die.
I’m working on an assignment AND doing chores…
Fuck everything right now. haha
67 hours of Star Fox.
Gotta take about five out for climbing on Monday, of course.
I don’t get a long weekend. But my plans are:
– Get a fucking haircut because I look like a goddamn shaggy asshole right now (Saturday morning)
– Go into Seattle (for the first time lol) to see Miku Hatsune live, with Anamanaguchi opening for her as well. This should be rad.
– Extra-special Pathfinder Session with the Monday Knights (on Sunday).
– Maybe videogames.
– Maybe sleep.
Steam is being an asshole by rubbing Battlefleet Gothic in my face.
I KNOW IT’S RELEASED NOW, STEAM! I CAN’T PAY THAT SORT OF MONEY!
WHY DON’T YOU JUST GO BACK TO ASSVILLE, WHERE YOU LIVE, YOU ASS!
*sobs*
HOW ARE YOU ALL?!
WELL?!
WEEELLL???????!!!?!?!!11
Picking up my Cryptek tonight \o/
niiice
You should check out the pcgamer review of it; might help curb your enthusiasm. No don’t reply to this comment once you’ve read it.
You are just the worst.
I know right?? You can thank me later =P
You’re lucky I’m a benevolent god.
Also lazy.
Very, very lazy…
That didn’t curb my enthusiasm at all! It actually makes it seem really good and a must-have purchase! What are you playing at?!
I already got it, can confirm, plays really well, 60FPS ship combat and the sound is really nice, and the intro ship flying scenes, so good.
Thoughts on the Gears of War 4 beta? I just can’t bring myself to enjoy it…
Did you try switching the “fun” button on at the start menu?
…………….
I kid!
It’s my first GoW multiplayer so maybe I’m overlooking that button lol
I disagree.
How dare you.
Like this!
I Up Voted, does that count as Liking? 😛
Sort of like.
Star Fox get!
Gamesmen had the first print edition for only $86, too. Awesome!
AUGH my monitor has died proper 🙁
Well, sort of. It shows a picture for all of a quarter of a second, then it goes blank. It’ll come back if I change resolution, or switch inputs, or turn it off and on again, but will disappear again just as fast.
COME BACK
I’M BACK… oh, your monitor…
< / 3
😛
My previous monitor started to do that. If I gave it a whack it would come back and stay stable for ages, but if I turned it off, or let it go to sleep, it would start doing it again. so crappy 🙁
Sounds like time for a new one!
After eight long years of service 🙁
Just pulled the trigger on this, seems to be the cheapest thing going around which I don’t think popped up in my searches last night. Couldn’t get in early enough to get it today though, so now gotta wait til Tuesday because yet another fucking long weekend. Ugh.
Wow that’s a damn good price for a dell IPS, and 16:10! That would have been the perfect replacement for mine, cos my old one was a benq 25″ 16:10 too! Only mine cost $1200 wheh I bought it aeons ago, and it wasn’t IPS, but damn it served me well!
Yep, the one that died was a 1680×1050 and I didn’t want to drop to 16:9 if I could help it. 16:10 master race 😛 I hate that they seem to have all but died out now.
I spent ages last night running through calculations to figure out pixel densities. The old one was a 22″ and I found that most comfortable, my secondary is a 23″ 1080p which I’ve always found slightly too small for me. A 25″ 1920×1200 screen would’ve matched my current one, but sadly that doesn’t seem to be a thing 😛 But for this price I’ll deal.
So from the comments on kotaku here I get the feeling I’m a bit shit at dark souls 3! Everyone is completing it at like 40 or 50 hours and I’m just past the pontiff!
I mean I like to explore everything and test out weapons as I go, do all the bosses solo and mess about with armour builds and stuff cause I don’t really ever replay them once completed but still!
I’m a very jack of all trades stats guy too, at about level 55 I’ve gotten my vigor to where it’ll stay for a while which is 22, and everything except attunement, intelligence and faith is sitting in between about 17 and 20. Do most ppl specialize a bit more by now??
Try reposting in the new TAY; few people check in over weekends 🙂
Steam is going at a crawl for me…
Might have to check the router. :\
If you ever get a chance to see Miku Hatsune live, you should do it.
Also it’s become some kind of cyberpunk future without us noticing.
(Anamanaguchi opened for her and they were also super rad and I’d happily see them on their own)
