Sasha "Scarlett" Hostyn made history for both women and non-Korean StarCraft pros yesterday by placing first in a premier tournament, IEM Pyeongchang 2018. The Canadian defeated two-time world champion Kim "sOs" Yoo Jin playing as the Zerg, her old standby, in a 4-1 victory. She's the second North American pro to ever place first at a major StarCraft 2 tournament in South Korea.


The Paris Olympic bid committee will consider esports for inclusion as a medal event in the 2024 Olympic Games, according to Tony Estanguet, the committee's co-president. Estanguet told the Associated Press that talks have been scheduled with the International Olympic Committee and with esports representatives "to better understand what the process is and why it is such a success".


Competitive video games will become a medal sport for the first time ever at the 2022 Asian Games, the Olympic Council of Asia announced. They will appear as a demonstration event at the 2018 edition of the next Asian Games, held in Indonesia, as part of the run-up to esports' official inclusion as a medal sport in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.


The possibility of getting video games into the Olympics has been bandied around for a while, but it's not until this year that something concrete has finally begun to emerge. It's not officially affiliated with Rio itself, but during this year's Olympic Games there will be a two-day pop-up event for esports -- and it's backed by the United Kingdom.
