Gamers 4 Croydon, the new political party set to run against Michael Atkinson at next year’s South Australian state election, are seeking more members. If you’re in Adelaide today and over the weekend, you can sign on.
Party founder David Doe is travelling to Adelaide today to obtain the 150 signatures he needs to officially register Gamers 4 Croydon for the election. He got halfway to that total last time and now wants to get the rest this weekend.
Gamers 4 Croydon will be standing a candidate against Atkinson in the safe Labor electorate of Croydon, a seat he has held for twenty years. Central to their policy platform is an overhaul of the existing classification system for games that would enable the Classification Board to award an R18+ rating in line with film and other media.
If you wish to declare your support, you can do so at the following locations:
* Friday, 5:30 – 7:00pm at Rundle Mall’s “Balls”
* Friday, 7:30 – 11:00pm at the StreetGeek LAN event at Colonel Light Gardens Uniting Church
* Saturday, 11:30am – 12:30pm at Intencity inside the Marion Shopping Centre
* Saturday, 2:00 – 5:00pm at the Valhalla LAN at the St Clair Recreation Centre
You can also follow Gamers 4 Croydon on Facebook and Doe will be tweeting throughout the weekend as the membership tally rises.

It’s a shame, I turned 18 today (which I think you had to be to actually sign…), and I was already in town. I won’t be going there again today, but I really would have liked to add my name to the list.

Michael Atkinson is now being accused of corruption and the subject of an ombudsman’s inquiry.

Is that their actual logo?
It seems a bit off because isnt one of Atkinson’s main concerns that gamers will translate violence in video games to violence in real life. Thus the logo is almost a symbolic representation of that argument.

That’s not the official logo, it’s a piece of fan art that’s stuck because it’s recognisable and provocative. The official logo is on the website *hint* gamers4croydon.org.

Fffff, if the trains were running (I’m not used to the buses and I hate them anyway. Never on time and always 10 minutes or so late) and if I knew about this yesterday, I’d have totally gone.

Wish I’d seen this post last week, i would have made time to add my sig.
I’m joining the Australian Pirate Party, and although I know the aims aren’t the same, I’m sure there’s many who’d like to support both.
