What do you remember most about the original Tony Hawk skateboarding games? The rush of putting together an epic thread of tricks? The exhilaration of notching ever-higher scores? Yeah, those were all great. You’ll get those in the Tony Hawk HD remake that hits Xbox Live today. But the pain… the pain was always the best part.
It’s up for debate, but in my opinion, the best thing about Hawk’s groundbreaking extreme sports titles was the way their virtual skaters painfully crashed out of failed stunts. Everyone who played Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 remembers characters leaving their boards in horrifically tangled contortion of limbs and in Tony Hawk HD, the bails look fiercer than ever. The footage above comes from my first few runs with THHD. In it, you can see the game’s titular athlete and my own Xbox 360 avatar spraying blood all over the Warehouse level. Things get better, I promise. A review of Tony Hawk HD will be on Kotaku tomorrow.

Tony Hawk 1 and 2 had canned bail animations. They weren't particularly horrific and didn't really portray limb contortion either...
Perhaps he's thinking of Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX? :-/
Yeah that's what I thought - and bailing for the 1000th time wasn't particularly fun either.
I spent so much of my early teenage years playing this game with my brother.
I'm definitely picking this up, glad to see they've kept the original soundtrack.
Never played this, but looks like it has the addictiveness of SSX?
That was terrible...
Two questions:
1. When is this out?
2. Just Xbox360 or PS3?
I do have both consoles, but TBH my 360 just sits there gathering dust, for some reason i preffer my ps3? ah well, either way,im so used to playing TH on a PS controller i dont think i could have it any other way...
It was released yesterday I think for Xbox Winter of Arcade. That'll probably make it an exclusive for a little while, but there's an eventual release planned for PC and PS3 apparently. (According to Wikipedia atleast.)
Why does it look so Gumby? did they f it up?
xbox early release is BS, everyone knows THPS belongs on playstation
This. The PlayStation is where we all fell in love with THPS, if anything the PS3 should've got it first and the Xbox had to wait for once.
That is just stupid.
i never played THPS on a playstation. the first console i played it on was the dreamcast. at that time, THPS 3 was a game i wanted, and a reason to update, and it was on both consoles, so xbox it was
THPS came out first on the PlayStation. Then game was then ported to the other consoles and did not came out on the XBOX. THPS 2 came out for the XBOX.
Either way, SKATE still does better job at portraying bails.
