One of the things that can really make or break a cosplay is the type of props used. Are they well-made? Do they look realistic? Are they cool?
Seeing where the plotlines for your favourite characters go. The shiny CGI ending sequences. These have traditionally been the reasons a person sits through the cheap-ass boss fights in a 3D fighting game. SoulCalibur V gave you neither and many fans of Namo’s fighting franchise — including me — were pissed at their absence. What makes the lack of a fully-fleshed out story mode in SCV even more infuriating is the revelation that a lot of the work was done.
Pac-Man is having a hell of a career second act in fighting games. Of course, he is one of the free characters in Street Fighter X Tekken on the PlayStation 3. Now it looks like he’ll be included — as some kind of bizarre head-thing — in Soulcalibur V‘s next batch of monthly costume DLC. See for yourself at 1:02 in this video.
We already knew that SoulCalibur V‘s character creator is powerful enough to allow you to create all sorts of messes, but this ups the ante one notch more.
While it may seem like a video of me singing to my two children as they bounce along to a song will.i.am did for Sesame Street a few years back, this is a video about SoulCalibur V. Or possibly frog butt.
DLC, patches, new modes… games evolve over time, so why shouldn’t our reviews do the same? When SoulCalibur V came out last week, the online lobbies were empty, waiting for intrepid warriors to fill them with the sounds of sword-clashing. Now that people are playing online, we’ve updated our review of the game to evaluate the multiplayer portion of Namco’s medieval martial arts game. Head here to see how it fares.
Hey, look! It’s Link — who starred in the GameCube version of SoulCalibur II — making a triumphant return to the Stage of History along with that girl he’s always having to rescue. The folks at NowGamer made crafted Nintendo’s iconic maiden-and-warrior pair with the character creator in Namco’s just-released fighting game, and then have Princess Zelda and her eternal saviour Link go toe-to-toe.
With the past couple of years dominated by Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat-style 2D fighters, it’s nice to see the return of one of the big 3D fighting franchises. That is, unless you’re a game reviewer. Then it’s time to step into the critical ring.
