Resistance And Ratchet Creators Focusing On PS3, Xbox 360

Insomniac Games, creators of PlayStation staples Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, say they’ll continue to stick to console games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but not the next PlayStation Portable, Sony’s NGP.

At the developer’s community day in Hollywood, California today, Insomniac senior community manager James Stevenson told fans that the game maker is “totally focused on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360” right now. It currently has Resistance 3 and Rachet & Clank All 4 One in development, as well as an as-yet-unrevealed multi-platform game for Electronic Arts.

While Insomniac would “support Sony” in the development of games for the NGP, “it’s probably not something we would develop in-house”.

That’s typical of Insomniac, which has primarily focused on PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 development. Portable games based on Insomniac’s best known franchises have been handled by teams like Sony Bend and High Impact Games.

Sony has already announced a title based on the Resistance series for the NGP. That game is being developed by Nihilistic Software.

Insomniac Games recently announced a new division, Insomniac Click, a small studio that will concentrate on making social games for web and mobile platforms.
