PSN Down - No "Update Or Timeframe To Share At This Point In Time"

Everything you need to know about the current PSN situation can be found here, but whereas, initially, the PSN situation was thought to be temporary, Sony are now officially claimed that the service will be down indefintely with no "update or timeframe to share at this point in time."

"I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online," claimed Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media. "Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

"As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience."

For Sony not to officially come out and state an official timeline, at this stage, after all the fuss, is a pretty big deal. We'll have all the news on the situation tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have more concrete details on a specific timeline then.

    Wow. This is... rather serious.

You'd think they'd be able to work out something; otherwise the knowledge that it could be paralysed for so long because of "an external intrusion" is a little concerning.

It is a bit slack for Sony not to have released any hard information yet, but still, I'm not too bothered. Perhaps I don't rely on online play as much as other people, but this PSN outage hasn't affected usage of my PS3 at all. Did I mention I'm a PS+ subscriber?

Seems people have forgotten single player exists. But anyway, 'nuff ranting. All in all, I agree Sony isn't handling the situation very well, but I also think people are overeating at the same time.

I do hope Sony gives users some compensation or something though (at least PS+ users), it'd be a very silly decision not to.

Yeah, it's a real worry, perhaps they are dealing with corrupt backups too? Let's just hope we find out soon.

    Sigh.

They were so close to converting me away from the 360. So very close.

    Something must be seriously wrong.

You get what you pay for. Xbox Live FTW!

hmmm you seem to forget XDD, remember when xbox live went down for hmmmm 2 weeks lol thats funny i guess YOU dont get what you pay for XDD

@Daniel Harkin, your so right, Xbox FTW...Oh wait Xmas 2008, Xbox live went down for 2 wk and in subsequent years they've had 1/2 a dozen or so outages, but who remembers that...2008 is so long ago...Xbox FTW!

      ???
I'll take my free Steam over Xbox Live any day thanks...
      :P

This is what happens when you don't pay for an online service, dodgy quality. Yes I will go back to enjoying xbox live thank-you very much :)

I don't pay for Steam. Or Impulse. And these are great services.

Because Xbox live has never been down for 2 weeks before.

      Oh wait...

This is staggering, I'm reminded of a four corners special I saw a few years ago about DDoS attacks and how hackers in Russia were targetting betting websites based in Australia by basically holding them to ransom (ie: pay up or you'll never get your site back up again) one company went under due to this.

I love the way they throw the corporate spin at us. C'mon guys. Most of your customers can see through this. Just admit that you have no idea how to fix it.

This could prove devastating to Sony, especially in the lead up to E3. They might have to address this at E3 itself. The media will want answers.

This is so frustrating. The one week I'm home, have access to my PS3 and want to play Portal 2 co op is the one week the PSN goes down.

It's awful to say the least. Maybe it's my fault it went down?

I go back to uni on Sunday, I bet you that's when it goes back up :p

For people who say the PSN is free and therefore an outage like this is tolerable when compared to XBL are simply wrong. When Sony decided to market the PSN as a free service as a selling point to move PS3 units, it became part of the PS3 price. I bought a ps3 over a 360 first because of this very reason - free online.

While it doesn't really bother me all that much that the PSN is down because i am having so much fun playing Portal 2 on PC over and over and over again, i just want to point out that even though the PSN is a "free" service does not excuse it from being downtime for its customers and blocking their access to their games.

I do not expect to be compensated in anyway because i deserve it or anything like that - i just wanted to point out to people that keep saying the PSN is free therefore it is alright it should go down once in a while, is not okay for those who bought their PS3's for that selling point. PS+ subs and MMO subs on PS3 should be shaking their fists in the air and demanding compensation, which they should be rightfully given if Sony ever wants to keep their "free" service a selling point.

Sony should just pay the person who hacked them...

Why do people forget about when LIVE went down for ages a few years ago -- i think it down for 4 or 5 days then up and then down again every few minutes for the next few weeks...

As such i think we can forgive SONY for realizing that there original design of PSN probably didn't have the best security, or the best expandability and now they are re-building the entire network to fix those problems. This short term pain will result in long term security and besides it'll do some gamers good to go without online gaming for a little while - there is always single player !

I am becoming more and more edgy about how safe my credit card info and indentity are. . .

To quote one of the commenters on the PS Blog: "How did it go from 1 or 2 days to no clue?"?

Sorry to double post but I wanted to make another point; PSN isn't free. Besides those of us who pay for PS+, it's factored into game (digital and physical) and hardware costs.

i want to play black ops i was about to get der reise!!!!!!!!!!!! come on already stop beeing dum asses and fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF come on it's been five days and my spring break ends next week!!! I didn't get to play black ops!! Sony you better give us psn users a reward for waiting this long at least $50 dollars in our wallets! Smh

why not just rebuild the psn from scratch???

They could still allow us on Netflix I'm paying for that and can't use it

I reckon the outage has nothing to do with hackers.

I think it could be maybe the portal 2 steam cross platform intergration that may have upset it the system.

    From BBC website 20 mins ago;

"Sony has warned users of its PlayStation Network that their personal information, including credit card details, may have been stolen"

Lol nice sony if they really want my credit card details that bad they can have it lOl it a pre paid One but good try all I can say is HACK THE PLANET!!!!!!

Remember back in the day when you bought a game and played it, had your friends come over and hang out taking turns trying it out??? well now everyone plays online doesnt call their buddies to come over but to get online... the psn out just makes you go back to playing a game which if its worth the 60 bucks you paid online access doesnt matter.

im fuming now.. ive been waiting patiently for almost a week, & then i just read on a website, that Sony will try to get "some of their services up within a week".. SOME SERVICES?! does that include psn?? it better f**king do!! im not a crazy gamer, whose having withdrawal symptoms.. i use my ps3 (which to me, is useless with psn), to see my gf & wee baby daughter.. their in N. Ireland at the min, & im in South England, & i rely on my psn to see them.. last thursday (21st), was my 22nd birthday, which was completely ruined thanks to them.. now i had a sh*t birthday, i wasnt well, & no one bothered saying happy birthday or anything.. but all that couldve been put aside, if i was able to see my future wife & my child, even for 5mins.. ive gone a week without seeing my fam (through ps cam on chat, if u dont know what i mean), & by the sounds of it, it might be ANOTHER week.. :-( HURRY THE F*CK UP SONY! i paid for a product, & i expect a decent service in return! ...............

Do you even need PSN in Australia? It only has a few things that the vastly superior Xbox Live store doesn't have.
