Nintendo Launching Game Boy Advance, NES Games For EShop

Until now, the Nintendo 3DS's eShop has only offered Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games. Soon, that will change.

Today, Nintendo revealed that it would be giving those who purchased the 3DS before the August 12 markdown the chance to download 20 free games (either NES or GBA Virtual Console) via the 3DS eShop.

Wait, what? That's right, the 3DS eShop is getting NES Virtual Console games like Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Jr, Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda.

Early 3DS adaptors get the games... early and for free. The titles are slated to become paid downloads for everyone else.

Also, 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games are headed to the 3DS — games like Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs Donkey Kong.

I'd say this is smart on Nintendo's part if 3DS sales weren't so rotten, meaning that this, coupled with the price drop, all looks rather desperate.

According to Nintendo, "Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future." No plans watch!

The sudden price drop was a surprise, but chucking in free games and new Virtual Console titles for the 3DS is a bigger one. I'd say this is smart on Nintendo's part if 3DS sales weren't so rotten, meaning that this, coupled with the price drop, all looks rather desperate.

With a handful of cancelled games and waning interest, the 3DS is fighting for its life, but in the meantime early adaptors look forward to twenty great games. Free games, that is.

Why the hell would Nintendo decide to hold all those GBA games in the vault and not put them on sale? It's like they don't want to make money!

Note the phrase in the press release : "Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on the Nintendo 3DS in the future"

Currently having no plans doesn't mean they'll never have the plans... just not right now :)

i was hoping this wouldn't happen. However all the signs have been there from the very beginning...

How many games should the eShop have by now... all the DS downloadable catalog at minimum plus a tonne more new ones.

How many actual games should the 3DS have by now.... Not sure but I think they would have been banking that more then 4 would have an average metacritic rating of over 80% by now. Sadly no and even worse, most games aren't being released until after September.

Instead of this I would have far preferred they went iOS game compatible instead and signed a deal.... The Vita already has the Android app store sewn up. thin people aren't going to buy the Android version of angry birds in some format on the Vita... Think again Ninty!!

So... more ports are the reason im being baited to buy this piece of garbage?

I dont care about the price drop, GAMES NINTENDO... owning those titles for 3447343272 time doesnt interest me!
