This Guild Wars 2 Art Can't Stand Still

OK, so I've got a bit of a thing for Guild Wars 2 art. It's a gorgeous game, shoot me. But before you do, you should check out both this concept art and, in a neat twist, some trailers made out of concept art.

Horia Dociu, who worked as an artist on Half-Life 2, joined Guild Wars developers ArenaNet shortly after Valve's classic shipped, and has been involved in both Guild Wars and its upcoming sequel, Guild Wars 2.

In addition to being a concept and storyboard artist for the game, Dociu is also cinematic director, meaning he directed these clips. The artists whose work you'll actually see in the clips are Kekai Kotaki, Daniel Dociu, Richard Anderson and Jaime Jones.

Because Horia's own art isn't in the clips, I've included some of his concept images in the gallery above as well.

If you like Dociu's stuff, you can see more at his personal site.

Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists.

<3 GW2 artists so very much.
Also love that the female is realistically proportioned and is wearing armour in a way that might actually protect her somewhat.

I agree, it's nice to see an interpretation of a female warrior which looks both realistic and feminine.

In the hands of a Japanese artist, she'll have thigh-highs, steel BREAST-plate and... pretty much nothing else.

I thought there was a bit of a kerfuffle about the exact opposite of this a few months or more ago when they released details of the Norn race...

But to be honest it doesn't bother me much at all. It's fantasy after all and as long as it looks fantastical I'll be happy.

For instance it's not like anyone would really use a giant ass flaming sword that shoots out laser beams and is twice the height of the person wielding it. And yet there's no such limit placed in the realm of fantasy so each to their own world is how I see it.

In terms of art though I would gladly hang any painting by the people who came up with this aesthetic of GW2 on my wall. I'm kinda sad I missed out on the posters PennyArcade were selling a while back but I've heard one of the main artists is opening up shop?

Umm.. everything from cleavage up is unprotected with that armour set she's wearing, so I don't know what you mean by having armour that might actually protect her...
