If The PC Release Goes Well, A Console Port Of DayZ Is ‘Almost Certain’

DayZ is very PC thing. It sprang from a mod of a game that was a PC exclusive — it doesn’t get more PC than that. But speaking to The Escapist Dean “Rocket” Hall, creator of DayZ, has claimed that a console port of the game is a possibility, and the PlayStation 4 is the most likely destination.

“Certainly I think if we don’t, for want of a better word ‘fuck up,’ the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain,” he said. “I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I’m not a console gamer, I’m a PC gamer, but I don’t think it necessarily has to hurt things.”

According to Hall, Sony have already expressed interest in the game.

“We’ve talked and met with Sony, and they’re very – you know, they’re obviously interested.”

The PlayStation 4’s architecture is reportedly PC-like in its structure, so it makes sense that DayZ might work best on that console. Sony has also developed an indie-friendly, so that’s must also be part of, firstly, Sony’s interest and also Hall’s positive reaction to the idea of porting his game across to the console.

Thoughts? This seems like the kind of thing that might bother PC purists. I think the more people who get to play DayZ the better.
