The Men of War series of real-time strategy games is up there with the best of WW2 titles. They're a bit long in the tooth now, but that will change come the end of August, when the HD remake of the original Men of War, Assault Squad 2: Men of War Origins, hits Steam.
Admittedly, 1C isn't doing itself any favours with a trailer that, while true to the gameplay, could probably have done with another pass on captions such as "Significantly upgraded engine!". The unwieldy name Assault Squad 2: Men of War Origins is a mouthful and will certainly be confused with 2014's transposed Men of War: Assault Squad 2.
Adding to this, the developers have announced that AS2: MoWO will be released as a free DLC for MoW: AS2, with the former coming with a "light version" of AS2, so it can be played standalone. Owners of the old-school MoW will "receive a discount" on the game, though how deep this will be isn't elaborated on.
Still following? Cool. Here is a list of features you can expect in the updated release:
Completely enhanced HD visuals and remastered audio Vastly upgraded engine featuring DirectX 11 support for Soft Particles, Depth of Field, Flora translucency, Soft Alpha Rendering, SSAO and more Plenty of improvements in the gameplay, interface and AI Revised unit management, including automatic ammo re-supply and unit veterancy Improved physics and ballistics engine
No price is forthcoming, though I'm guessing between $US20-$US40, based on 1C's catalogue.
