What Are You Playing This Weekend?

The weekend is perfect for video games, particularly ones that aren't announced yet but you're pretty sure they'll be playable in some form.

I'm in town for Blizzcon this year, which is shaping up to be all sorts of fascinating already. The last year for Blizzard was always going to make Blizzcon 2019 interesting, but when you add the spectre of how fans reacted to Diablo Immortal, moves to cut other projects to double down on Diablo 4 and more Overwatch, and then the chaos of the last few weeks, this year's convention might be the most important in the company's history.

After A Terrible 2019, Blizzard Is Going All-In At BlizzCon

The plan was always to wait for BlizzCon. In November of 2018, after a PR blow-up surrounding the ill-advised announcement of the mobile game Diablo Immortal, Blizzard’s staff knew that they just needed to make it through the next year without incident. If they could, they’d be able to win fans back with a suite of killer announcements.

There's a pretty good sense of what's coming already, although what exactly will be playable on the show floor and what won't is another matter entirely. Warcraft 3: Reforged and the next World of Warcraft expansion seem a given. Overwatch 2, or whatever that ends up being called, is being talked about around town as a certainty as well.

I'm still keen to see what's happening to Diablo Immortal, the mobile meme that has gone completely under the radar in the last few weeks. Most of the development work has been done. NetEase, the Chinese partner and developer working on Immortal with Blizzard, said their hand in the game's creation was done in February. A much bigger vertical slice should be playable on the Blizzcon show floor — although just as interesting will be whether the game gets mentioned during the opening keynote, and if so, how that's handled.

Outside of that, I've been mucking around with the horror game observer on the Switch. The controls are incredibly frustrating, so much so that I'll probably pick up the game on PC just to deal with something a little easier to handle. Always loved the vibe, though.

Doesn't matter what im playing, Just wasting time untill Red ded 2 baby!

Broken record time! More Disco Elysium. Fuck it's good. I've tried playing a few other things, but every time I start playing something else that's on my list, I keep thinking about how I could be playing Disco Elysium right now.

I've been trying to play other stuff just to ensure I get some variety and prevent this weird time dilation thing that happens where I sit down to play DE, blink, then realize it's time for bed and hours passed without my noticing. I'M LOSING DAYS, MAN.
But it's not working, because playing other stuff while not playing what I want to is just making the other stuff seem boring.

God of War. Currently midgame heading back towards Jotunheim and fully expect things to go sideways before I reach the end.

Apart from that, if my brother in law picks up Luigi's Mansion 3 I'll be dropping some time into that if he'll let me nick the cart.

Of course all this is just a prelude to Fallen Order, which if it shakes out the way I'm hoping it does will consume my time right up till Christmas.

Shocked you care about Diablo Immortal in any capacity.

It’s obviously going to have an obnoxious “GET” symbol next to it when it’s on the app store... with all sorts of insidious prompts to purchase arcane dust or whatever currency they’re selling.

I wouldn’t waste a minute thinking about it. Especially now theres Apple Arcade with such high quality premium games available.

My time will be split between Luigi's Mansion 3 (which is incredibly cute in my play time so far), Outer Worlds (quickly becoming my favourite of the year) and the Destiny 2 halloween event. All that, and watching Blizzcon and the Overwatch World Cup finals.

Want to do a bit of farming in Borderlands 3, still need to finish Trails of Cold Steel 2. I feel like starting a new game but not sure what.

I've been working on a personal project for a few months so it's finally time to get back to Fallout 4 and try to finish my game! It's so big (100GB heavily modded) that I can't really install anything else while it's there. I'm definitely having fun, but it's nowhere near as fun as my similarly heavily modded Skyrim game was last year so I don't mind rushing a bit. Even still might take me another month or two in my spare time.

My husband and I are also playing EDF Iron Rain together split-screen. I know it's a weird americanised spin-off, but it's nowhere near as good as EDF 5, playing anything together is fun though.

Finally going to immerse myself in Outer Worlds. Also downloading Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice to check out. I'm loving the XBox Game Pass on PC!

Surviving the aftermath ???? it's so my jam, suuuper excited to see it grow over the next 12 months. If you enjoyed Banished, it's a definite spiritual successor. Outer Worlds when I get tired of sitting at a keyboard lol, haven't gotten more than a couple hours into it yet ):

Luftrausers on Vita. It's enjoyable but I'm pretty bad at it. Can't manage to kill a blimp yet.
MTG Arena on PC. Enjoying the brawl event and testing out some homebrew decks.
Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning on PS3. Over 180 hours in and starting to get near the end (I think). What a massive game.

Been away & away most of this melb cup long weekend however will squeeze in some Control. Just received The levitation power ... good times in the oldest house.

Four day weekend! Not all for games, but it does mean less guilt if I happen to use a lot of it for games. Including...

Luigi's Mansion 3 (awesome so far)
    Forza Horizon 4 (cannot stop)
    The Outer Worlds (maybe)

All weekends should be four day weekends.
