This is the week where us plebs in Australia finally get to play Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. It also heralds the release of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls… and an absolute buttload of other releases.
So yes, a lot of releases this week. But it’s definitely a quantity over quality situation. What are you planning to pick up this week?
Age of Wonders III (PC)
What is it? The ‘long awaited return’ of a ‘legendary series’.
Should you care? I think you’ll probably know whether you’re excited about this one or not.
Deception IV: Blood Ties (PS3/PS Vita)
What is it? A revisit of an old PlayStation game called Devil’s Deception.
Should you care? This is obscure. I’m surprised it’s being released here.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls (PC)
What is it? The new major update/DLC/upgrade thing for Diablo III.
Should you care? Yes, I believe so. Especially if you have any interest whatsoever in Diablo.
Ether One (PC)
What is it? This is an intriguing looking game about the ‘fragility of the human mind’.
Should you care? Can someone play this for us and let us know if it’s good? It looks kinda good!
Last Knight: Rogue Rider Edition (PC)
What is it? A weird mix of genres. You’re on a horse and there’s physics and all this stuff. Looks fun.
Should you care? It looks like it plays a little like Crash Bandicoot if that helps you at all!
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (360/PS3/Xbox One/PS4)
What is it? Depending on who you talk to this is a glorified demo or a must play introduction into Metal Gear Solid V.
Should you care? In my opinion it’s simply not worth the money.
Professor Layton Vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney (3DS)
What is it? The coolest crossover in handheld history.
Should you care? I don’t even know if this game is good or not, I still want to play it. (I’m assuming it’s good.)
Quest of Dungeons (PC)
What is it? An RPG with a 16-bit aesthetic. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
Should you care? It seems to be a little self aware, but that doesn’t stop me being bored with this kind of thing.
RefleX (PC)
What is it? A twitch-based top down shooter that will melt your brain.
Should you care? I have a soft spot for this genre. Don’t listen to me on this one. I’m biased as all hell.
The Witch and the Hundred Knight (PS3)
What is it? An action RPG about witches and stuff. Cute art style.
Should you care? Apparently it’s a little bit mediocre.
Unclaimed World (PC)
What is it? A colony sim that takes place in the near future.
Should you care? Look, I don’t really know enough about it to be perfectly honest.
Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (360/PS3)
What is it? The latest entry into the deteriorating Ninja Gaiden series.
Should you care? No. I don’t think you should care. I took an early look at this a while back and was not impressed.

Big week for me Deception Diablo Metal gear and Yaiba, Also paying off ESO and Dynasty warriors
Excited for Reaper of Souls, leveled all my toons to 60 during bonus XP event in anticipation. Picking up my retail copy of Ground Zeroes this week, but already been playing it digitally on my US account.
Deception isn’t too obscure. Both Kagero and Trapt (Other games in the series) were released in Australia as well. It’s just… niche. Trap game fans (eg. Orcs must Die) may enjoy it. Personally, I’ll be picking it up alongside Witch and the Hundred Knight.
I’m pretty sure deception is out next week.
I thought Yaiba looked really cool from the first trailer. Had a go of it at PAX, and it wasn’t too long before it started to click. Will probably grab it when it becomes cheap.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes – Essentially a glorified demo. Simply its not worth the money to spend on a game that can take 10-15 minutes to complete (according to reports) but there is some replay value but not worth the $48 retail price. I would say buy this game when goes into the bargin bin and possibly when Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain releases
Maybe I should buy Diablo 3 & The Reaper of Souls Expansion and start playing
it’s about $33 from the US XBL store if you wanted it but just that tad cheaper. Not hard to buy from other regions on your AU account with Xbox.
There are copious amounts of full priced games are there out there that have youtube speed run videos in which someone beats the main game in 10-20 minutes. If you buy Ground Zeroes wanting to smash through the story and thats it then sure don’t buy it or as you said, wait for a price drop. If however you’re like me and a shitloads of others who absolutely love Metal Gear Solid and will make sure that the content vs price justification is there, I don’t see how it’s not worth it. While I agree that it seems a little silly to not have GZ be a part of the final MGSV package, the game is supposed to be great and plenty of reviews (official and otherwise) have clocked an initial playthrough including sidemissions at 9-10 hours. This is very much a case of to each their own though.
I bought it for $25 on PSN. I’ve played a total of about 6.5 hours over three runs of the main mission. Maybe 2 hours in the side-ops. Another hour in the menu listening to the collectable cassette tapes. The menu tells me I’m at 28% completion now. I haven’t got a single S Rank yet and there are still a whole heap of collectables to find plus another extra-op to unlock. And there’s plenty of shenanigans to be had just playing around with the guards.
All I know is I’ve already had my moneys worth and there is still plenty of play time in there for me.
+1
If your a Big MGS fan it’s definitely worth it.
The PS4 version cost me $34 from the US playstation store I’ve easily gotten my moneys worth already with heaps more to do, ……Still cringe every time snake speaks though
“The following takes place between the hours of 1.00.a.m and 3.00.a.m.”
I totally cringed at that…
Wait… that actually happens??!
I’m personally waiting for the warning signs at JB Hifi and other places, along the lines of Xbone: “caution, needs internet” – and the salesperson will double-check you do have ‘net before selling.
I imagine this will happen within 48hrs when angry people are asking why the hell they paid $50 for half an hour. 😛
I spent $23 (including conversion rate) for Ground Zeroes on my US account. So far 2 hrs and havn’t completed the main mission. I know it’s lame, but because I know its a short experience, I’m basically taking my time, screwing around, trying to take out every single gaurd, and rescue every single P.O.W.
I felt sick in the stomach buying it, but $23 is much better than the Australian RRP of $48 retail price. Lets just say, its like a KickStarter… we’re funding the ‘real’ games development…
Deception IV for Me 😀
Metal Gear for me, looking forward to it despite its length
Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney comes out a day before my birthday so I know what I’ll be getting 😀
I think Ground Zeroes is worth the money. But I paid $25 on PSN, not the $50 they’re charging at retail. I went into detail in a comment above but I’ll just say there is plenty of playtime to had.
Battlefield 4: Naval Strike for me
Pretty excited about Deception IV.
Loved Kagero: Deception II, Deception III: Dark Delusion and Trapt!
Don’t think I’d call steam early access a release @ Unclaimed World, to many of these things get ‘released’ on steam when they aren’t really in playable or even near complete condition.
I think I’ll wait for the inevitable Phantom Pain + Ground Zeroes bundle.
This week and next week will be a mix of Reaper of Souls, Titanfall and inFAMOUS 2.
Agree with Bangers, above. Picked up Ground Zeroes with bonus Peace Walker HD on the PSN for $25 and had no delay in release – been playing it for about a week. Totally worth it. Totally boss.
