According to a story on The Hollywood Reporter, Tim Miller — director of Deadpool — is going to be “developing an adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog for Sony Pictures”. Which is a “a hybrid CG-animated/live-action family film”.
Miller wouldn’t be directing; that honour would go to Jeff Fowler, the director and co-founder of Blur Studios, AKA the trailer guys.
Also onboard as producer is Neal H. Moritz, from Fast & The Furious. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller (Golan the Insatiable) are writing.
“Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts”, Miller told THR. “The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”

Yes. Finally!
I’m not sure how to feel about this. Sonic DOES have the potential to star in a CG animated movie, however including live actors will pretty much turn into another disaster to be thrown into the Sonic Pile.
Please don’t use the new animation designs. Give me classic sonic, hell – even the Sonic Adventure model.
In a surprise twist, Sonic and co. will be the live action and the humans will be the CG.
I’m pretty sure I know who their target audience is lol.

All I can picture is a “the smurfs” movie clone.
Sonic ’06 nightmare is going to have a movie adaptation !!!
Quitting deadpool2 (very successful) to work on a video game franchise movie (never successful) thats also a live action CG character movie (not successful since late 80s) – geezes does Tim Miller have a career death wish.
Oh… thats right Uwe Boll quit, someone has to replace him!
I’d wager it’s more a case of being muscled out of his position on Deadpool 2 by Fox handling their comic book franchises with their typical level of competency, and Miller desperately jumping on the next thing that happened to cross his desk.
I thought uwe boll retired?
