Two years ago, the Smash community was completely upended when the Project M fan creation shut down. It was seemingly out of nowhere and a shock to a community that had grown around what they had always wanted: a version of Super Smash Bros that was tooled for competitive play.
That game was Project M.
Project M, the unofficial lovechild of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Melee, has been abandoned by its developers, but fans are still churning out content for the popular mod. As of last Sunday, our favourite conniving Mario underdog has earned his own -- again unofficial -- Smash character in Project M. Waaahaaahaa.
Six years after its release, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is kept alive by hardcore fans that mod the game. In particular, fan-made Project M continues to add stuff that keeps the ageing game feeling fresh.
