Marat Ars is an artist who has worked for both game studios and Plastic Wax, the Australian animation house.
You may remember we featured his work a few years back when he did one of the most badass Mario redesigns I’ve ever seen.
That art up top is not from the kill-it-with-fire Akira movie project. Though if you’ve ever wondered what the classic manga/anime would look like with white people in it, now you’ve got a template.
You can see more of Marat’s work at his CGHub page.

Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists, showcasing the best of both their professional and personal portfolios. If you’re in the business and have some concept, environment, promotional or character art you’d like to share, drop us a line!

When you upload pictures on these CMSes, it generates a hash (unique string), a thumbnail, and the original image (usually). Instead of being uniquename.jpg, its folder structure is like /uniquehash/original.jpg
His work is absolutely fantastic, but he draws hands too big imo. Kind of breaks the images for me.
That Akira is just…urgh. It looks dated ALREADY, as opposed to the original Akira which still looks great.
