When you start up a retro game on an old-school console, what you play will typically look antiquated. But boot up a decade-old game on a PC, and with the right mod, the game in question might look right at home with games released this year.
That’s part of the beauty of PC gaming. So here’s a collection of mods which you can use to make older PC games look visually stunning — not to be confused with our best mods list, which you can find here.
Just click on the title of the game to learn more about the graphics overhaul mod for that respective game.
Final Fantasy VII
Deus Ex

Skyrim
Grand Theft Auto IV
Thief
Morrowind
Fallout 3

not exactly a HD update but it does look better then the original 😛
Well, I would think Crysis 1 would be right up there with GTA and Skyrim, it is for me.
Here’s a link to one with pics. http://www.moddb.com/mods/blackfires-mod-ultimate
Deus Ex is one of those games that’s begging for an extensive mod/remake. As we know, the characters and story are top notch, but the technology wasn’t there at the time.
Imagine the same game with current graphics, physics engine and better AI. Mmm….
Two words:
Darkplaces Quake.
Also, found a mod to improve the graphics for Hexen 2, talk about awesome. 😀
Hmmmm…. I never finished System Shock 2.
It’s probably the number 1 game sitting atop my pile of shame.
Maybe it’s time to give it another go with a new coat of paint.
