The market for intricate, hardcore military sims isn’t what it used to be. Sure, games like Battlefield 1 might partially scratch the itch, but who remembers the likes of Delta Force, Joint Operations or even the F-16 and F-22 games from NovaLogic? THQ Nordic does and rather than let these treasured IPs rot, has snapped them up along with the NovaLogic brand.
Before you ask, no, THQ hasn’t magically come back from the dead. THQ Nordic is simply a rebranded Nordic Games, which picked up the rights to the name and made the switch back in August. It’s also publishing Piranha Bytes’ sci-fi / fantasy shooter ELEX, which we’ve talked about in the past.
As for NovaLogic, it doesn’t appear THQ Nordic has any immediate plans for the properties — in fact, it’s asking developers to reach out, according to the company’s business and product development director Reinhard Pollice:
“We are extremely satisfied with the new additions to our portfolio, and also very thrilled about how to continue some of said franchises, we are open for talks in this regard if any developer approaches us with a concept for a potential sequel to any IP.”
While the announcement doesn’t list all the franchises THQ Nordic acquired, it does highlight the big ones:
Delta Force Series
Comanche Series
Joint Operations Series
Armored Fist Series
Tachyon: The Fringe
F-22 – Series
F-16 Series
NovaLogic Trademark
There’s a wait ahead before anything solid comes from this news — potentially a long one — but at least we’re going somewhere.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a remaster of the Delta Force games. And Joint Operations still hasn’t been surpassed at 256 player multiplayer (unless you count Planetside 2….. which considering its shards are across multiple continents rather than one battlefield, I’m not sure).
Oh how i fucking loved Joint Ops and its Expansion Typhoon Rising. It had Helicopters i could actually fly because the controls were fucking stupid like they are in the battlefield series. In fact Arma had better chopper controls and that goes for as close a flight sim as it gets in a combined arms title.
My only gripe was that the rebels had much stronger weapons due to their basic rifle being the AK47 with its 7.62mm rounds while the Joint Ops all used 5.56mm rifles thus rebels took more shots to kills compared to the Joint Op side
Yet to ever experience again what Joint Ops TR offered back in the day. Still my favorite multiplayer FPS of all time. 256 players on a single server.. Awesome action with the day night cycle and massive maps. Some aspects were realistic (well… as realistic as they could get back in those days) and others glitchy and just plain fun. Sadly missed, but delighted to hear it stands a chance at finaly being revived. Fingers crossed it doesn’t end up a COD or BF clone.
Oooh Comanche
My first reaction too!
