Everything Announced During Today's Nintendo Direct

Today Nintendo hosted its first Direct presentation in a while, announcing a lot of Switch and 3DS ports, teasing next year’s Animal Crossing, and announcing that Luigi’s Mansion 3 is in development for Switch.

It was a fast-paced info-blast, and easy to miss the actual news among the stuff we already knew about. Let’s break it down.

A new Luigi’s Mansion game is in development for Switch.

It’s tentatively called Luigi’s Mansion 3, and given how much I loved Dark Moon, I am super here for it. Nintendo shared basically nothing else about the game, but it’s nice to see that Luigi isn’t dead, after all. Then again... I mean the game is about ghosts... maybe at the end we’ll find out he was dead the entire time.

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is coming to 3DS.

I’ve never played this, but I’ve heard it’s wonderful. It’ll have new mini-games. I’m generally into yarn-based games, and this game is charming enough that I’ll refrain from commenting on how much I wish it were coming to Switch, instead.

Bowser’s Inside Story is also coming to 3DS.

It’ll include Bowser Jr.’s Journey, which is a new adventure in the world of the original game. Bowser Jr. sucks, but these games are fun, so I’m torn. It’ll be out January 11, 2019.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is coming to Switch.

I have a soft spot for these New Super Mario Bros. games, which should fit well into the Switch library alongside Super Mario Odyssey. The Deluxe edition will include New Super Luigi U. It’s out on January 11, 2019.

Katamari Damacy getting a Switch remaster.

Confession: I have never played Katamari Damacy. I know! It’s such a blind spot! The Switch port will use the Switch’s gyro controls and support multiplayer, and I cannot wait to finally play it. Katamari Damacy Rerolled is out this winter.

Nintendo shared more about their new Switch online service.

It’s out on September 18 and will support online play, classic NES games with online support, and cloud saves (for most games, anyway). Hopefully you don’t break your Switch in the next couple of weeks.

The Switch is getting a new NES-style controller.

The controllers wirelessly connect with the Switch and will work with all the classic NES games.

You can also charge them by attaching them to the Switch like Joy-Con. It makes your Switch look like it has big ears, lmao. They’ll come in packs of two and will cost $US60 ($84) and will apparently only be available to people with paid Nintendo online accounts. They don’t yet have a clear release date.

Game Freak is making a new RPG for Switch.

It’s called Town, which is a working title. It’ll involve protecting a town from monsters, and will be out in 2019.

Cities: Skylines is coming to Switch... today!

People love this game, which picked up the baton Sim City dropped. This seems like the kind of game that could work well on Switch, if they can get the interface right. The Switch version includes both released expansions.

As we knew, Civilisation VI is also coming to Switch.

We already knew this due to some announcements that got out early after Nintendo initially delayed this direct, but the endlessly addictive Civilisation VI is coming to Switch. It’ll have four-player local multiplayer, and it’s out on November 16. I’m a little worried about how much a portable version of Civilisation could dominate my life.

World of Final Fantasy, also gonna be on Switch.

It’s called World of Final Fantasy: Maxima, and is out on November 6.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is... you guessed it! Coming to Switch.

Oh man! I played a ton of this on PS4 but would love it on switch. It’ll be otu next year.

Final Fantasys VII, IX, X, and X-2 Remaster are all coming to Switch next year.

That is a lot of Final Fantasy! That is probably more Final Fantasy than I can handle. I’ll start with XII and go from there.

Animal Crossing’s Isabelle is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

At first I thought that would be the entirety of their Animal Crossing news, but Nintendo was nice enough to follow up that announcement with a Tom Nook-centric teaser for the Switch Animal Crossing, which will be out in 2019.

Couple Other Things: We got a reminder that the original Luigi’s Mansion is coming to 3DS with new two-player co-op on October 12; more on Yo-Kai Watch Blasters’ upcoming new content; Splatoon 2 is getting yet another set of maps and modes in Version 4; Mario Tennis Aces is getting another update on September 19 with Birdo, Shy Guy, Koopa Paratroopa, and Petey Piranha as playable characters; the Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle will introduce a bunch of classic Capcom games for up to 4 players; the Switch is getting some tabletop games like Carcassonne, The Lord of the Rings: The Living Card Game, and Pandemic, Munchkin, and Catan; this fall’s Switch port of The World Ends With You will include some new areas and enemies; Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Everybuddy is coming to Switch this winter; and Warframe hits Switch on November 20.

And that’s about it! No sign of Resident Evil 4 or Metroid Prime HD Collection ports, but I guess that’ll make me even happier when they finally do announce them.

Comments

I was gearing up to poop on how many of these announcement are underwhelming rehashes, direct ports or 3DS games (why the hell are they still putting development resources into 3DS games?).

But HOLY POOP CIV on the Switch! I’d missed that announcement.
Let me ruin any gamer cred I have by stating that I hope it’s super watered down from the PC version and plays more like a deep version of Civ Revolution (which I loved).

The PC games really push me to my limit of how slow and dense a game can be while still being fun- without a mouse I’d be happy for most of those skill trees to disappear!

3DS games (why the hell are they still putting development resources into 3DS games?)

Because they were already in development. Or the bigger one, because the 3DS still has a massive install base.

I was actually upset that there wasn't more 3DS. Wheres the chains like a style boutique 4? I understand that pokemon isn't going to be a thing for 3ds but they could of re-released pokemon pearl for it or something. I don't want to buy a switch, I want to play on my 3ds.

I'm not an Animal Crossing fan but it's cool to see so many people excited about any Nintendo release. From the Direct, I'm most excited about Town and the FF games. Tabletop games coming to Switch is also pretty cool.

Still no Netflix/YouTube or video playback support.

Going overseas next week so will be taking the trusty old Vita with me instead of the Switch.

And I'll be taking my Switch when I go overseas next month :) If I need Youtube, think I'll just use my phone. But hey more power to you.

Classic NES games on the online service is nice, but if they were SNES games I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Definitely looking forward to the Version 2 update of Mario Tennis Aces since it's coming out next week and I can't wait to see what new costumes will be added to Mario Tennis Aces along with new characters when Nintendo give us more content information regarding Mario Tennis Aces next year.
So I hope your all excited sports fans because I am excited too when the Mario Tennis Aces Version 2 update releases next week
The Nintendo Switch Online Service comes out the same day as well I'm very excited for that.
I'll definitely be purchasing a 12 month Individual Membership for only $30.
I'll also be getting the party rolling when Super Mario Party comes out next month so can't wait for that.
Yoshi's Crafted World that's definitely a good name for a Nintendo Switch game coming out next year so very excited for that.
Speaking of crafted I never played BANDAI NAMCO'S Katamari Damacy Rerolled for Nintendo Switch but I will definitely get that game for sure.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned as William Shakespeare would say.
That goes the same for Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo III coming out for the Nintendo Switch in November so I definitely can't wait for hell to arrive.
Finally SQUARE ENIX is bringing us a series of Final Fantasy games so I definitely can't wait to play the Final Fantasy series of games thanks SQUARE ENIX.
Luigi Mansion 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch next year so very excited for that.
Animal Crossing's Isabelle is going to be added as a new fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
    What else could go wrong?
I see that Game Freak the makers of Pokemon are bringing us an RPG game called Town. Well Game Freak looking forward to playing that when it comes out next year.
So the rumours were true New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe with New Super Luigi U included is coming to Nintendo Switch next year well I'm excited Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe since I'm a huge Mario fan.
CAPCOM'S Mega Man 11 very excited for the game coming out on October 2 next month to celebrate Mega Man's 30th anniversary I haven't played the Mega Man series but I will download the Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 later in the year.
A lot of exciting games makes me want to get on the hype train to an exciting future.
Thank you so much Nintendo I really enjoyed the Nintendo Direct it was a shame that you had to delay the September 6 edition of Nintendo Direct due to the recent Hokkaido earthquake but all in all you guys are have really made me happy and I hope to see you all in the next Nintendo Direct.

They added Isabelle to Smash Bros but still no Waluigi?

They're just trolling at this point
