I loved Driver:SF and apparently Watch Dogs was initially conceived as a Driver San Francisco sequel set in Chicago. That's pretty cool.
Further rumours are that part of the driver team is working on Watch Dogs. This hopefully means watch dogs will have good driving mechanics.
Wow really? Interesting how a game concept can change like that, I was concerned about Watch Dogs' driving mechanic but if the Driver team is behind it then we have nothing to worry about :)

I need your help. For Shameless Gaming Month this year I am focussing on older games that I own and have not finished, or HD versions which I have rebought and not finished. I narrowed my list down to 20 games and would like your help to decide which 5 or 6 to focus on.

the five I'd recommend are Shadow of the Colossus, Half Life 2, Beyond Good & Evil, Resident Evil 4 & Psychonauts.
Dunno what My SGM goals are yet... other than Amnesia : the dark descent.
Start with Shadow of the colossus and Ico. This way you're in the same mindset as you play the two games.
Next move on to Beyond good and evil then Psychonauts.
All the games mentioned above are 10hrs long or less. This way you can finish them off quickly and there is a reduced chance of you getting bored in the middle.
For the fifth game play Resident Evil 4. It's a fantastic game and even if you have the gamecube/PS2 versions they still hold up. It is longer than the rest though about 15-20hrs.
That's it.
NB: Alternatively, just play Shadow of the colossus five times. Once on Normal, again on hard, then do the time attack for both (that's 4) Finally just play it again and roam around with a different coloured Agro.
I just bought Ico/Shadow of the Colossus. It's a little cheating but I think I'll be playing SotC for SGM.
Psychonauts, Wind Waker and HL2 all stand out as well. Mainly because I'll be playing HL2 and possibly Psychonauts, while Wind Waker is simply damned good.

Just finished re-watching Toy Story 3, and man, that ending, all the tearing up, and all that. So super manly.
But, since I watched all three movies over the course of about 5 days, man, that Randy Newman music gets frickin' grating.

The worst part is that I usually keep my keys in my wallet, because while it's bad for the wallet, it means I always know where my keys are.
But they're not there. They're not anywhere near where my wallet was.
Whilst on holidays, a friend and I went out for drinks. To be sure she didn't lose her key, it was affixed to her pants prior to us leaving the abode. Upon return, and being sufficiently intoxicated, it was deemed simplest to remove the pants to unlock the door, rather than fiddle with removing the key from the pants beforehand.
...I'll recommend the wallet/purse idea next time.

Replacing my mechanical keyboard with an Apple keyboard. It had a good run but I think it's time for a little consistency. I use an Apple keyboard at work. I use my laptop keyboard when I'm not at my desk. Why not have the keyboard at my desk feel the same as well?
I love the apple keyboards. I feel I can type more efficiently & quicker on one than other membrane keyboards.
They use scissor switches, not membranes. At least, I'm fairly sure they do.
Mechanical switches are better. I never learned to type properly on it. Not bottoming out a keyboard with that sort of travel distance is hard. With the Apple keyboards, it's much easier to type softer.
Ah right, well my 2007 MacBook has a membrane underneath the keys.
After using laptop/Apple keyboards for such a long time, regular keyboards feel so chunky. Every time I use the Uni computers I have to get used to these monolithic buttons again. xD
Low profile keyboards are pretty amazing when they're done right. Less travel distance, it's a pretty nifty thing.
I like my old laptop which was a Japanese keyboard. The space bar was like 5 cms long and pissed off everyone using my laptop.
@lambomann007: re: Game Design or Game Programming, go Programming unless the material bores you completely. The reason being that you'll graduate with a skill that you can actually use for a job. Game Design basically locks you into being a Game Designer which means you're most likely going to be moving out of Australia in the event you actually manage to land a job at all. Programming at least gives you some technical competency, you can work in other fields writing code.
yeah give programming a go, some enjoy it, i'm not really enjoying it, so i might be switching to a digital design course next semester
As an aside I'm always happy to help out CompSci/Software Eng students if you get stuck on anything, hit me up on the twitters or something.
Yeah, this is what I was thinking too. I like coding (except for when something just isn't working and you can't figure out why :P), so I won't be bored :)
Learn to use a debugger. Seriously. The more competent you are, the better your code will get and the quicker you'll find the problems.
Also, errors are never at the line it says they're at.
It's usually the line above it, or wherever you declared your variables. At least, in my rather narrow, and very low complexity experience.

Seems like a pretty cool idea. Haven't completely read up on the map though but from the sounds of it, it will be a cool map to derp around on
I watched a small demo of it by Ciderhelm on youtube, looks really cool. It uses the tutorial map, so in single lane, turreted up as usual with 2 covering the nexus, also like usual. Here's the nifty ideas, once you leave the base, you cannot recall or go back to shop until you die, and the fountain does not heal you either, which really encourages proper tactics and coordination to get the most out of your engagements. Snowball items are gone too, so no Bloodthirster, Mejai's, Leviathan, Warmogs (I think), etc. You can't get any sort of wards/oracles either so stealth might be a possibility too.
There is no laning at all, basically just teamfighting. There are healing items, like in Dominion but instead of regen it's a flat heal. There's not a lot of them either nor do they respawn often so you gotta be careful on when to use them etc. Still I really love this idea, since it took the idea from custom games that already do this on Summoner's Rift, so I'm glad Riot made a game mode entirely out of that non-standard game style.
I got up early wanting to watch the GESL (Gigabyte Esports LAN) and that tournament just occured every single technical failure that has happened, especially Riot's failed new patch breaking everything.

Also, I saw Rock of Ages on Sunday. Not a very good movie, but I had a lot of fun. Worth it for Tom Cruise pulling off the rock and roll sex god act(and his singing was surprisingly good), and the Baldwin/Brand relationship, which was amazing.
Was far less silly than the stage show. Which is disappointing, given it's a juke box musical, and so it really can't take itself seriously.

Well three weeks have passed now and Im still alive. It's been a rather quiet and uneventful week, a welcome change. Especially as I myself had less time this week to engage with my surroundings. However this is one tale I should note.
Roughly mid week I was invited by one Powalen to participate in a local blood sport of sorts. Whilst only a handful of the population here play they are none the less enthusiastic in their approach to their bizzare cock fights. They called it Pokemon and it is a simple game of sending a random selection from a large variety of critters to battle each other in the ring, formed up in teams of six. Despite my otherwise pro critter stance on those we share this world with, I must inform that I found it to be a great deal of fun. (Even if I did loose most rounds)
But, there was one downside to the event. The standard means of communication were insufficiant and such we resorted to other more vocal means. Yet when I arrived I was still wearing another moniker obviously out of place in any context other then its origin. As such I was swiftly made fun of and more jokes were given upon my name. But between you and me I think they were all just a bit jelous of my credentials. Yes that must be it.

Uh, first reports were that the squid had only been parboiled - so not completely cooked.
Sigh... Quake 3 is available for Ubuntu, yet you have to have the pak0.pk3 and the linux 1.32 version of the game to get it to work.... :(

Going well now that I can reply to people posts and they are actually showing.
Had a good weekend of gaming, played portal 2 co=op for the first time which was a hilarious experience. So much acid, so many times.
I also tried out darkspore which was interesting, only played solo which will get boring quick but think it could have some co-op potential.
The other major thing that happened was I actually finished a game \o/
Grotesque tactics 2, which I posted about at the end of previous tay. Funny and enjoyable but with a mass of annoying bugs and situations.

So anyway, I just found out Steams (American) summer sale starts very soon. This being my first one ever, what should I expect? Also what games are you guys n gals hoping to pick up?
Expect to just start throwing money at your computer and to end up with a bloated Steam library of games that you just couldn't avoid buying.
As far as sales go, Steam Summer Sales are pretty amazing. Odds are, you'll find many a game for less than $10 that you didn't even know you wanted.
The Steam sales always annoy me. It's always either "thanks for discounting all those games I already paid full price for guys!" or "thanks for dropping the price by 40% shame it's STILL more expensive than importing a physical copy thanks to the Australia Tax".
It's going to be my first Steam sale as well. It'd be good if I could get Trine 2 or The Walking Dead.
Luckily(?) I'm on a Mac so my wallet won't take too much of a beating, I shouldn't think. :P

Don't buy anything that isn't a daily deal until the last day.
Do they specify when it ends? Or will it be sudden?
Dates are normally clearly advertised - and the last days deals are often a 'best of' what's already been offered.
Would something in the 'best of' (last day deals) ever be discounted lower than it was as a daily deal? Also would this scenario be accurate?
Let's say The Witcher goes on sale for 50% at the start of the Summer sale. When it becomes a daily deal it would go to 75%. After the daily deal is over it would revert back to 50% for the remainder of the sale unless it's part of the 'best of' at the end. Now would this best off price ever be discounted at more than 75%, let's say 80%? (I think 80% is the biggest discount I've seen on Steam)
If it doesn't then the daily deal price would be the lowest and if anything I want is at a daily deal then I should pick it up, right?
Sorry for the questions I just don't want to be that guy who ALWAYS buys something just before it gets reduced and complains and feels bad about it :P
Daily price will be best price. Don't expect anything to reappear on the last day either, if you wait chances are it won't.
So far as I recall, the finale just reverts them down to the daily prices.
Further point - first 30 min of daily deals can be wrong, I got 4 copies of Terraria for $7.50 when they screwed that up. Then I bought a 5th at $5 to make up for it since it's a good game.
So wrong as in bad wrong? As opposed to good wrong where there's a price screw up and it's cheaper than it should be.
I assume Terraria was supposed to be discounted 50% to $5 but they screwed up at it was $7.50? Although it's still a saving nonetheless and yes, Terraria is quite a good game :D

As far as steam sales go, they generally have a huge selection of games on sale (anywhere between 20% - 50%) for the full duration of the sale. Then every day they choose a few games and increase the discount. So basically only buy games that are in the "daily sale". On the last day if a game that you wanted was on sale but wasn't on a "daily sale" buy it.
I hope that made sense. Oh yes and expect ANYTHING to be on sale :P
VERY recent releases won't go on sale I.e. no skyrim deal in the Christmas sales.
Although I would expect a 30% off skyrim during the summer sale. Maybe even a 50% for 24 hrs only (May be wishful thinking)
It's been on a weekend deal this year (33% off?) so it should be one of the daily features in this upcoming sale.
What I could probably project on the too soon front - don't expect Max Payne 3 to be on sale. Best hope would be inclusion in a 'Complete Rockstar Pack' of some sort, but could even be excluded from that.
When is it expected to start? I'm setting a budget of $150, max. I swear I'll stick to it, too!

The basic way sales have worked recently is that almost the full catalogue will be on sale, probably around 25% – 50% off
They they will run daily deals where around 10 games would be on sale for 24 hrs only with a countdown. What I have found is that if you are planning on buying games wait until the last day and get everything you want otherwise the moment you buy it at 50% off it will pop up on the daily deal for 75% off the next day.
There is also generally packs on sale which if you are new to steam can be great value, like the THQ complete pack which contains almost 20 games from THQ which will be down to about $50.
Recently they have also been running competition type stuff (tickets last summer, coal over christmas) where you can gain achievements that give you a ticket that can be redemmeed for prizes (DLC, games cosmetic items). Possibly a chance to win grand prize as per christmas which was winning the entire steam catalogue.

I always make sure to only select the easier tracks to ensure competition can be close. There are about 26 people participating, but not sure how much 'competition' there is.. I know Batguy tries to beat everyone, but not sure who else is playing?

But then again I wasn't competing either :P, but that track is such a pain! Stupid water physics!
Personally the way I've treated this competition is just to beat my previous time before it was a competition track by at least a second (or a lot more in the case of Gigatrack) and that's worked out pretty well for me. Sometimes I then go 'well maybe I can cut off another second' but other times I'm just content as is. I seem to fall in the top ten or so each week which I'm pretty happy with. Don't really expect to ever be seriously competing against Batguy or Sughly times, though. :P
